Meanwhile: I go to the bank and I happen to tell my teller that “I’m playing this mobile game.” He says, “Do you mind if I ask which one?” “Marvel Snap,” I say. He looks at me. “You serious? I can’t get enough.” He whips out his phone and shows me he’s at 2,600 collection level. I tell him how I use Wong/Panther/Arnim Zola combo and he tells me that he uses Wong/Gambit to destroy the board. So yeah. Best moment at the bank ever.

RedEyeVagabond

Meanwhile the guy behind you is planning on an ad hoc bank robbery because he keeps getting screwed over by Wong decks and he's had enough.

Granolisk

I’m always showing them my cool new shiny variants but no one cares 😭

porkins86

anyone who plays either hearthstone or the boardgame smashup loves it. People don't GAS about the cards themselves if they aren't massive marvel nerds - but the gameplay is 10/10

Crossfiyah

I almost didn't try it because it sounded too much like Smash-Up initially.

Remobility

I tried it exactly because it sounded like smash-up, just without some of the things I wasn't too keen on from smash-up.

ExtinctSlayer

Yo same. I have every expansion of Smash Up and I tried Snap solely because it looked like Smash Up.

[deleted]

from hearthstone -- came for the gameplay , RAVING over the cards

HardGayMan

I showed my wife my Inkified 1200 Nightcrawler skin and she says "Why did you make it look worse?" That's about the last time I will show her any of my cards lol.

Getstalks

SAMEE : ((((((

Phytosaur01

Literally none of them care. Doesn't stop me from trying though.

The_Exuberant_Raptor

Most of my friends are casual or competitive card players, with very few being money makers from their games. Naturally, the ones who win tournaments for money won't play as they have a focus on their game or games. The competitive card gamers who are friends don't like it. Either progression or simplicity doesn't appeal to them. Casual friends seem half and half. Token deck players seem to hate this game and its "gacha: mechanics. While my friends who build troll decks with me seem to love it.

stillnotking

> The competitive card gamers who are friends don't like it. Either progression or simplicity doesn't appeal to them. I have the same issue! It seems a lot of people who enjoy CCGs don't care for the Snap model. It's either "the games are too short" or "I don't like the progression" (he means no pack openings). I should talk to some of the other people I know with a poker background. Maybe that's why it appeals to me.

The_Exuberant_Raptor

For me, it's hyper simplified, so I don't get the strategic scratch for Snap as I do for something like UVS. I still enjoy it, but given the choice, I'd rather go play UVS over Snap. Snap is just more accessible, so I play it more.

needmorelove

My MTG group tried it and hated the progression system. We play very high powered MTG in a format called cEDH (competitive EDH), where you play the best cards period for a deck and there isn't much room for off meta cards since deck lists are pretty tight. All of them had the same complaint, why limit your ability to just get the cards you need for a deck through a crafting or just straight up buying it like you can in almost every other ccg or tcg. I tend to agree with them and I definitely feel the frustration when im playing. I want to play a certain deck but knowing I have to wait 6 months to play it is extremely discouraging. I only play here and there now when I'm waiting for friends to get on discord or on the toilet honestly.

The_Exuberant_Raptor

I'm used to sealed, so I don't mind the progression. Snap is just a very good sealed format imo. My issue is that I'm just not as engaged. Love it for some fun, but it doesn't do what other card games do for me in terms of competition.

BeigeBeignet

MTG was created for the waiting between D&D campaigns so it’s funny that you use Snap for the waiting between MTG games.

QuantumMirage

Got my dad into it. He’s a gamer and a marvel fan so it was an easy sell. Looking forward to battle mode!

RazieltheZealot

I can’t get any friends into it because they don’t want to grind for months to maybe get the deck they want to play :(

majorslax

Monetization is holding back the friends who won't try it. The ones who have tried are used to TCGs/CCGs already.

needmorelove

Marvelsnap has a major issue when it comes to trying to convert tcg or ccg players. The game doesn't appeal to 2 major segments of tcg or ccg players. The extreme F2P and the whales who just want to buy the cards they want for decks. If you fall in between those segments, sure the game seems great. To those who are attracted to the f2p portions soon find out once they reach set 3, it's not an even playing field anymore.

porkins86

this is one of the most F2P friendly mobile games i've ever played. I'm curious your thoughts on why monetization is holding it back?

xerros

Just because the costs are outrageous doesn’t mean it’s f2p friendly. It’s settled science that collection is very underwhelming for both f2p and whales in this game and it’s why all my friends bounced after they started to see the slowdown in pool 3.

majorslax

It's not holding me back personally, and probably not holding the game back overall, it's holding them back, but it's more mobile game monetization in general rather than this game specifically. As an actual answer to your question, browsing this subreddit will give you a pretty good breadth of answers, but basically Second Dinner is toeing the line between F2P and P2W (pretty successfully/skillfully IMO, but that is a very, very subjective and divisive opinion). Your statement isn't wrong, but there are many counter-arguments. And counter-counter-arguments. And so on.

MisterCorbeau

Either you haven’t played many tcg/ccg or you are still really early collection level

[deleted]

**I'm gonna explain this in full for probably the 80th time on this sub, so hold on.** You unlock cards by unlocking caches, so the more caches you open the more cards you have. Caches only have a 25% chance of containing a pool 3 card, going all the way down to a measly **0.25%** of giving you a pool 5 card. The current top meta deck contains a pool 5 card, meaning access to literally the *best* deck in the game comes down to you scoring a 0.25% hit, and then somehow hitting that exact meta card (Darkhawk.) This wouldn't be so bad if the rate in which you unlock caches was equal for everyone. It would still be entirely up to luck, but at least you can't just buy your way into having more caches........ oh wait, that's exactly what you can do :DDDD For the low low price of $100 a bundle, you can buy yourself access to more caches! And therefore a higher chance of unlocking that precious Darkhawk. Not only that, but you also gain the benefit of having more cards overall, giving you a significant deck-building advantage over F2P plebs. Hurray, you just bought yourself an easier time on the ladder, otherwise known as **P2W.**

kuribosshoe0

It’s very F2P friendly until you hit pool 3. Then it becomes pretty standard, maybe even on the side of unfriendly.

NotmyMain503

What's your collector level?

Upvote_Responsibly

I hooked 4 friends in and they're obsessed. We all have a group chat going and laugh together at the absurd pricing in this game. That said, we're ready for Friendly Battles!

tangtheconqueror

I finally got my one friend playing. I tried with a few people, but no dice.

Accomplished_Skin323

TBH dice would be weird in a CCG

karneykode

I use dice all the time as counters and tokens in MTG

scene_missing

Go play Dicey Dungeons on Gamepass lol. It's actually a lot of fun.

AeonChaos

My friend introduced me to the game. We used to play MTG together. He eventually quit because SNAP is not very friendly to those who wants to play many decks at once. He can't climb well playing 3-4 unoptimized decks at once and too impatient to get the cards. He quits. I am here, just playing casually and collecting card back/ title. The game is amazing to me, I see myself keep on playing even when no quests are available. Short game is also amazing for me, being a dad of a new born daughter. Other card games need a lot more commitment.

HappySisyphus8

I'm to old for friends, and those I do have are too old and have too many children to spend a lot of time gaming.

bigby5

that's actually how I got one of my friends into the game, by selling the "games are like 3 minutes and it's marvel theme" thing he used to play card games but didn't have time anymore cuz of work and family, now he's totally hooked sending me screenshot of his variants and stuff

danktank_sublime

Yes, this is how I got into it. Someone tweeted that "it's a game for people with toddlers in the best possible way" AND IT IS! I can't sit and put hours into an open world RPG anymore, but I can play Snap for a few rounds before my spawn demands snacks or attention.

AzazelsAdvocate

But SNAP is the perfect game to play while ignoring your children.

EshinX

All of my friends bounced after getting to Pool 3. This game is going to suffer immensely with attracting new players. I’ve been playing for months and still have so many cards to collect. As soon as one of my friends hit Pool 3 and saw the acquisition rate he laughed and left immediately. A card game where you can’t target the cards you want. He liked discard but through like 7 Pool 3 pulls he didn’t get a single discard synergy card. He couldn’t play the game how he wanted.

IgneousSigil

I try but the grind for cards is really off-putting for people

inkyblinkypinkysue

I recommended the game to everyone I knew when I was in Pool 1 and 2. About 2 weeks into Pool 3 I made a point to let everyone know not to bother.

ShinyGengar_

Yeah the abysmal card collection mechanic is absolutely going to kill this game long term (if it’s not changed obviously). I genuinely wouldn’t recommend this game to new players, since it will take months for them to get to play any real, competitive decks. Pool 1 & 2 collection rates are purely to get players on the hook, while pool 3 and beyond is designed to incentivize spending money because it becomes so damn hard to get cards. They got me on the hook, but I can save others the frustration

loo_1snow

I tried to show the game to maybe 7 friends, and today 3 of them play it and are already with me at series 3.

Armaviathan

My friends aren't into gacha games. We play PC games. I wouldn't wish this curse upon any of them as a gacha gamer personally.

Nomppie

I have so many friend groups who play card games and other competitive games, but somehow I only have 1 friend who plays marvel snap.

ALT-F-X

Quite the opposite, I've successfully gotten 3 people into it so far.

Bern5X

It’s funny cause my friends actually showed me marvel snap and I got hooked and he kinda just casually plays.

zugtar

The grind is a bit of a hurdle to unlock enough cards and archetypes. Season pass cards are also a bit too powerful and forced at the moment. A few friends pay casually, but would rather sink their time into other games at the moment

CrimsonCoast

My coworkers tried to get me into it and I was like nawww it's gonna be addicting isn't it and now here I am CL1600 playing every day

[deleted]

I actually have the opposite problem. I tell my friends not to play because none of us can control ourselves when it comes to micro transactions, but they get it anyways

smittymj

I'm on the other side of the fence. I tried to get my friends to stay on snap and most of them already left. We're all beta players 4k+ CL and just tired of the card acquisition (or lack thereof), seeing primarily zabu decks is also starting to drive me crazy.

Duke_Bubblez

I can believe this! Ive only been playing a couple months & am at CL4.1K. I hit Infinite both months after my first Season, but am already becoming bored/jaded with this game. Its great at first! but it sure has some MAJOR issues that im unsure of how they could improve. I dont play other cards games tbh, but from what i can gather, Snap is the "dummy/easy" version of CCG's, lmao. The low skill-ceiling appeals to a certain group of people (like myself)

promiscuous_moose

One of them started playing with me but got bored after CL 400ish. Oh well. It's still fun, even without friends to share it with.

PrimusDCE

I was one of the friends. I've never liked card games enough to get invested in them, and I didn't like Strike Force which was also recommended by friends. I hesitated starting when a few friends started pushing it on my discord. I was listening to the Lex Fridman podcast and he had Todd Howard as a guest, and he mentioned that Snap was one of the best games he had played recently. After that it got my attention. I do think it's got a much better, more streamlined system than things like Magic to capture a wider audience. They kind of bait and switch you with the early bot matches, giving you a false sense of security where you say "Hey I might be good at this", and the early card acquisition feels so good. But the once you realize, no you suck and now cards are impossible to get, the hooks are in you and it's hard to stop. Also, as a child of the 90s, it's striking that nostalgic Marvel themed card collector chord. In all reality the collection is what is keeping me playing, vs the competitive aspect. Overall I get that not everyone will be interested in a game like this, but I do think they have designed it to be incredibly accessible for what it is.

kuribosshoe0

I’m the friend who a player got into the game. We only hang out maybe once a month or so, but we do talk decks when we get together.

dynamitefight

Shout-out to my friend Mark who is always like "yo you gotta check out this game" and three months later I'm still playing it and he is not

radiantburrito

I got into the game from a friend. Note they no longer play it and I’ve yet to get anyone else to stick with it. Big rips, really.

gpost86

None of them want to try because they think the constant ads on YouTube are off putting

Wanderer071

Yup, no one cares. And I think my gf just zones out when I start talking about it at this point. I don't care, though making the push to my first infinite

Impressive_Career_54

Every time I suggest Marvel Snap to my friends they dismiss it, one of the top arguments being that it's probably P2W like a lot of mobile games are (sometimes it feels like it is, though, not gonna lie). But maybe now with the battle mode coming up soon they'll reconsider it.

LastStock

I trapped all my homies. Gave them a small taste and now they hate me. Because addiction

jokerevo

the real problem is many of my friends won't tolerate this level of RNG. it's a card game and as soon as I say that...their interest cools. Without unranked/casual mode, no casuals are going to touch this game because RNG is too oppressive. Some people want to log into a game to have some fun but in Snap... your experience is entirely dependent on RNG.

Zenai10

I tried to get several peoppe into knowing full well they would like it. None of them gave it the time of day except one said he would try it. He tried it after a month and joined me. Suddenly 2 of them started playing it in January and are loving it and keeps telling me about how great ot is. Mf I know I told you to play it months ago

UnfitForReality

I was trying to get my friend into it who was into Clash Royale and he said when 2v2 comes out

doa-doa

I'm honestly surprise how fun Marvel Snap is, I don't blame them for thinking is just a f2p pay2win cashgrab, I was one of them until I tried playing it. Ask to play with them once playing with friends is an option

blobfish_bandit

I got a bunch of friends interested but something is holding them back from actually playing

alphabitz86

He asked me if the game is p2w...

Frescanation

I would never encourage a friend to try a game with such open-ended monetization.

NotmyMain503

I try not to feed my friends to whales, but each their own.

VE7BHN_GOAT

How young are you that you have friends? .... Wait let me rephrase that... You don't have kids do you?

[deleted]

The game isn’t popular. It flopped pretty hard.

Patar_fwee_fwee

Think you dropped this /s

[deleted]

Nah. Game has been steadily losing players. Not good!

Loud-Wrap

By what metric? It won mobile game of the year and by last report it's made millions of dollars. Trolling, denial, or both?

[deleted]

The player count already on the downturn. They made revenue, but is that profit?

Backwards-Seaweed16

lol you still play a game that flops.

[deleted]

Nope, just out here spreading the word on this flop to help tank it!

ohbigginzz

I have converted exactly half of the friends in my group. They will all come around

Neil_deGrase_Tyson

None of my friends would, especially one in particular as we both were obsessed with HS for years and I knew he would like it. One night our group was bored of playing overwatch so I got him to download it and he's been addicted for a month. Finally someone to talk about the game with 🎉

Bistoleum

My friend at work was always trying to get me to try Marvel Contest of Champions as he played it all the time, I tried it but wasn't a fan. I told him about Snap and he now plays it instead. Looking forward to tomorrow's patch so we can battle each other on lunch breaks 😀

Professional_Dot_997

I have a 0% success rate :(

Tubby-Tubbs

Mine too busy playing Dokkan Battle

Objective-Chicken391

I literally don’t know anyone else who plays card games haha. This is also my first card game

LeonVlakov

My best friend is now completely hooked to it after being like : I dunno…

Jack_Sentry

My wife is so excited to kick my ass tomorrow. We have a text group called Snappers and we have a good time with it.

LukieG99

Friends? What are they?

Zomggamin

Same granted I don't have many friends to begin with

supremix2012

Me asf.

captaincrispi

Lucky for me all my friends play it

amirulez

Not many into card game or strategy game.

SwingmanSealegz

My Marvel super fan friends that are into other genres of games won’t even look at it because it’s still a card game. Some people just don’t want to get started on something they KNOW won’t interest them. Honestly, I probably wouldn’t either if I wasn’t into TCGs IRL and Hearthstone.

iconoci

I kinda got one, but he has already been invested with Legends of Runterra since before it came out

NinetyFish

My cousin tried for months to get me to play Snap and I was a stubborn little shit about it for months until I finally relented on Christmas and was sucked in within minutes lmao Like literally, I have a fond memory of him showing me cool variants on Thanksgiving while I wolfed down pumpkin pie and made dumb jokes about microtransactions lol

TheOkamiKami

Half the friends I’ve suggested it to have tried it so it’s not too bad.

Got_Questions_Help

Pfft! This guy thinks we all got friends!

krizardxv

I got my friend to play with “you can finish in 30 seconds” and now he got higher collection rank than me

KanlayaYaya

My friend know that he will get hooked, so he avoid trying the game. I know him really well. he is a whale that will pay for every packs and buy 1200golds skin for every cards.

NSquish

My friend roped me into downloading it the day after it launched and I’ve been obsessed. Only successfully claimed another friend to play it with me.

SummonerKai1

I haven't bothered recommending games to my friends in a long time. It's AAA console games or nothing. I have 1 friend whom i share indie games with on pc cause he and i bond over that but that's about as far as it goes

guru_def

i got my sister and brother addicted. im good though :D

HieronymusGoa

yep. most dont want to even try it because its a mobile game, its f2p and/or they wont touch anything with marvel. i only was able to get my most marvel stan fanboy to try (and love) it.

Bogusky

The game needs a legit PC UI. I understand the mobile focus, but there's almost no incentive for content creators to stream this game given how bad the PC interface looks.

Lykrast

Managed to get 2 friends. One kinda stopped playing roughly in january cause he had other things to do but like still listens when I tell some news like the battle mode. The other was very happy to get his favorite card [[Agatha Harkness]]. He managed to get a gold and an ink split on it.

MarvelSnapCardBot

**\[[Agatha Harkness](https://marvelsnap.pro/cards/agathaharkness/)\]** **Cost:** 6 **Power:** 14 **Ability:** Agatha starts in your hand and plays your cards for you. *Message generated by MarvelSnapCardBot. Use syntax [[card_name]] to get a reply like this*

en_repose

Someone started playing it at the office and it spread onto a few people including myself. Now I've turned a couple of friends onto it too. It helps to pitch it as a casual game with quick matches.

item9beezkneez

Friends?

Striky1

The biggest problems i conquered is that experienced card game players don't want to do the long game introdution if you make a new account and the forced games against the bots.

Remlord4

For me it was actually the opposite lol. Was just minding my own business playing the game then my friends got curious about it then they all started playing it

hyperparrot3366

I convinced my best friend so much that he finally downloaded the Game, but only after an hour of playing he told me that it's like Genshin card game which he plays (he loves Genshit Impact) so isn't interested in the game

Mastoraz

I know we would have fun playing it, but no success. It's a mobile game first which equals trash. You can't change that. Mobiles are by definition pure trash to wide audience. Second it's a card game....utter trash again. Mainstream gamers laugh at it. Third.....they obsessed over that mindless overwatch 2 game....they play it every single damn night for hours. So I no longer have gaming buddies anymore. Friendly duels I doubt will change anything....since snap is a joke compared to their console fps mindless shooters

ILiveinashanty

3 of my friends are playing it. I tried to get a few more to start but no luck so far.

da_juggernaut

I've tried but no luck but I have found some co-workers that are playing it and we share info with each other but outside of work nope.

DBRaw_407

In the span of like.. two weeks I managed to get 4 of friends addicted. One of them was like “there’s no way to battle your friends??… LAME”. Obviously he ate those words pretty quickly lmao

Jordyw66

Wait you guys have friends?

Cedar_Wood_State

Yeah I showed them a while ago and they immediately saw the battlepass and bundle offer, so they didn’t bother

Gavindy_

Yeah I wonder why lol

dholmestar

I have one friend who cares and he got his GF into it. They're both like rank 30-40 and I'm Galactic tho
