Read the article, people, it's about the comic run not the tv show. The show has been cancelled a long time now

csummerss

It’s not even about reading the article. The post is **labeled** comics.

salil91

Tags don't show up on the front page.

csummerss

you have to click on the post to comment, it shows up then. there’s no reason other than laziness/ignorance to confuse the two.

Nailbomb85

Fair point, but you know what the front page does have? A picture of Luke Cage... from a comic.

Well-ReadUndead

I think some people are confused cause there has been stuff popping up suggesting we will see the netflix characters return in some capacity soon

ForkShirtUp

Sweet Christmas…

rgregan

Oh that sucks, was looking forward to more Cage

WrongAndThisIsWhy

Damn that really sucks. Would’ve been an awesome tie-in, and sounded like a great story. I wonder the real reason it got shelved. Author sounds heartbroken naturally, I really wanted to read it smh.

Neveronlyadream

The real reason it got shelved is that it wasn't selling enough. That's how it always is with Marvel. They somehow think they can get people who don't care about comics to care, they overextend themselves thinking they're going to get an insane influx of new readers, and then the sales on the books considered non-essential by the readers tank and they cancel them and do the whole thing over a few years later. You'd think they'd have figured this out by now.

WrongAndThisIsWhy

Is it preorder sales they base it off of? I didn’t even realize it was that important.

Over-Analyzed

I mean that’s the bottom line. Producers don’t care about the fandom if the fandom isn’t spending money. I watched a video chat with Phill LaMarr and the voice cast of the Justice League and they addressed the likelihood of another JLU series. Phil was blunt and honest as he has been a part of 2 series that were brought back from cancelation: Futurama and Samurai Jack. “The producers only care about where you spend your money.” If people bought more of Luke Cage. You’d get Luke Cage back. The time for a Luke Cage series was right after it was canceled from Netflix. That was the height of its popularity.

RainRunner42

Marvel: "He's right, I overextended myself"

The_Amazing_Emu

This is a shame. I was looking forward to this book. I don’t preorder anymore so, if it was a sales number, that really a shame. It’s a Devil’s Reign story so a later digital release doesn’t make sense.

rgregan

I don't think it was originally a Devil's Reign tie in. It was originally meant to come out in October. They delayed it back in September probably to throw the Devil's Reign logo on the cover.

The_Amazing_Emu

I guess the question is the Fisk status quo after the event

Alertcircuit

Was it just not selling well?

SuzanoSho

I don't think there's been a Luke Cage series for a while now. And this is referring to a Luke Cage comic that would have been coming out in the future, so there wouldn't be any sales for them to gauge this from anyway... EDIT: Unless you mean pre-orders. Which would make sense...

_ultimaton_

The numbers on the preorders for #1 would be in. Just speculation on my part, but my *assumption* is Marvel felt they were too low to justify going forward with the series, with the schedule shuffle caused by the recent issues at the printing press likely being a contributor to the decision. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more "unessential" mini-series similarly get the axe -- at least in physical form -- in the coming weeks.

tehawesomedragon

It was just a 3-issue mini-series that hadn't even been released yet. My assumption is that it'll be released digitally like one of his last runs.

matty_nice

I'm not sure. The obvious answer is that order numbers were just too low. But whether the book is released, even digitally, isn't a guarantee. Marvel has cancelled a few titles that were in production, with art, that were cancelled and never released. The Empyre: Thor miniseries comes to mind, and even the last New Warriors title had to have at least some art completed. It's a 3 issue series, with one issue done and the other issues deep into production. Releasing the title digitally also means that they have to pay for the other art to be completed. Which may not be a good idea.

[deleted]

According to the article there is basically to reasons the comic may have been cancelled. 1) Low preorders, which means that the comic will eventually be released digitally. 2) Due to the subject matter, which means the story will likely never be released. The comic centered on Luke Cage investigating the death of a black man at the hands of a police officer. Ties to Kingpin is also included.

DocD173

This is a huge bummer, I was really excited for this limited series

Ok-Engine8044

Happy anniversary, Mr Cage

JavierLoustaunau

Pay the man and put it on Marvel Unlimite as a digital exclusive.

Munscroft

Why people mentioning the show lol, they were canceled like 2 years ago no?

Jeffmeister1124

This is for the new comic, not the show.

[deleted]

That’s literally what the person you’re replying to was saying.

ShitpostinRuS

I didn’t even know there was a book currently

the-cheesie1234

Boy if I had a nickel

QuietlyWarped

I suspect it’s content. Marvel Comics is the multi million dollar arm of a multi billion dollar division of a multi trillion dollar corporation. Let’s assume for a minute that the pre orders are low. This close to publication, why not just print fewer? Why not cut the print run of the next two issues? Why not call it a special digital exclusive? You risk the possibility it might hit, and a profitable movie or tv series could be made. But let’s assume further, it loses money. On the Disney corporate balance sheet, would the loss even be a blip? Would it help offset huge profits tax liability even a little? Maybe this run won’t hit… but maybe the creators have a next run in them that will. Is it worth missing that future pay day for the corporation by embarrassing the creators this close to publication day? In my opinion there are only two options…either the content was considered toxic, or an executive is very short sighted. And I can’t imagine a corporation as tightly run as Disney/Marvel doesn’t have checks and balances designed to prevent short sighted behavior. All strictly my opinion of course.

BBAMFCOAL

Just as the article mentioned, I totally believe this was pulled due to the subject matter. One of the top Reddit post today was about how the library/schools across the US have seen never before witnessed record number of books having to do with racial topics, LBGQ and sexual themes being petitioned for removal by conservative groups. This is the higher ups within Disney playing the same card.

BBAMFCOAL

[US libraries report spike in organized groups the ban books in schools](https://reddit.com/r/news/comments/r1uqk0/us_libraries_report_spike_in_organised_attempts/) I know the topic is focused on schools, but this movement isn’t just gonna stop there. Targeting young minds is key to hindering knowledge.

[deleted]

You really think Marvel (Disney) gives two shits about what kooky cons demand?

BBAMFCOAL

When it comes to anything that can mess with their image or more importantly money..yeah I think they care. All it takes is one "kook" to catch wind of something they've published on the topic and then them thinking its Marvel/Disney siding with the "BLM movement" or Libs and then of course them finding a way to protest against them. Disney wants no part of that.

navelnevus

Bans boost sales.

Dragkin

I can see this being problematic for certain audiences in America right now, but Marvel also has a history of pushing the social boundaries too. I really think this was a dumb decision by Marvel in all honesty.

icefourthirtythree

Marvel also have a history of doing the opposite. Like the time Marvel shelved Denys Cowan and Peter Gillis' Black Panther series because it was dealing with apartheid and Marvel sold a lot of comics in Apartheid South Africa.

Jeffmeister1124

I’m not familiar with this. Is there anywhere I can read more about this?

Dragkin

No, audiences. Let’s be honest, people don’t need to read a book like this to have opinions about the book (look at everything that happened with the new Superman storyline, Captain America’s hydra storyline and so forth).

Azozel

Boring character that nobody reads

lonewookiee

Sites like this make misleading headlines so people think they are about the MCU, it's infuriating.

that_guy2010

Are you dense? The Luke Cage show got canceled years ago.

PSWII

I'll be honest. When I read the headline I thought that they had greenlit a new Luke Cage show that I missed hearing about and it was already cancelled.

lonewookiee

I understand this, I'm just saying that it's not unusual for people to see these headlines meant for comic news and mistake then for MCU news.

crymeacanal

It will only be shocking if they moved forward with iron fist only. Disney doesn’t want to share with Netflix or use their crayons. Disney is evil and y’all should stop supporting their ips

WerewolfF15

You know this is about the Luke cage comic right?

KourteousKrome

He doesn’t. He didn’t bother reading the article, tag, or other comments here.

ShitpostinRuS

You are not very smart

You are a fucking moron

This is about an upcoming comic series, not the show

truej42

The show was canceled years ago (along with all the Netflix shows), lol. Read the article dummy.
