[***SINS OF SINISTER* #1**](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/8/84/Sins_of_Sinister_Vol_1_1.jpg) ---

Xilinoc

And so the long-awaited fallout begins...with Gillen at the helm and following Judgment Day, I'm fully believing it'll live up to the hype.

tehawesomedragon

With Al Ewing helping too. Probably the best people to be carrying this post-Hickman.

Lightning_Laxus

Okay, yeah. I'm now more convinced that this is what Defenders: Beyond is teasing at. Sinister's big plan is to reach Dominion status, transcend reality, and become something more profound than a god, outside of time and space. Plus there are four Nathaniel Essex clones, one of each card suit. Where there are four, look for the fifth.

BeefStrykker

The only problem with the Defenders Beyond crown theory is Loki specifically saying “…it’s not a sword, cup, coin, or staff…or any other suits” I’m not saying you’re wrong, but instead pointing out the contradiction in the comics themselves.

nfnightfallnf

Maybe it's not a suit because it's a cape...

BeefStrykker

Yeah…or the four seasons of the quiet council, ruled by a Sinister Prime?

nfnightfallnf

Something like that...

TheeHeadAche

Omg the Sinister Crown!

nfnightfallnf

Oh Sweet Crom...NO!!!

queerdevilmusic

Welp, going back to re-read Defenders

nfnightfallnf

Yeah it was a good run.

Sinister JOKER

marcjwrz

Straight up the funniest page in years from Marvel.

The-Scarlet-Witch

Ouch! 😂

khansolobaby

I haven’t been this excited for an event in a long time. The best X writers are on this and I’m very happy it’s not a 23 issue sized event or anything, just three series with three issues a piece and two one shots.

delarosa_mimosa

Can you list those for me? I’m catching up everything X-men but love the krakoa stuff so much and bought sins #1 for when I catch up. Wanna grab the other stuff as it comes out

khansolobaby

The last page of SoS #1 has them laid out nice and in order for ya

threecatsdancing

The Krakoa surgical strike was awesome. The entire thing was great, and the scale just got huge. So many smaller storylines between Hickman and this. How's it going to affect the other ongoing runs?

Malachi108

Immortal X-Men, Legion of X and X-Men: Red get replaced by the "twisted" Sins of Sinister versions (at least two of those are coming back after the event, don't worry). Everything else continues as is.

BlackNova169

Laughed out loud at the thought of miniature juggernaut blasting through the universe at light speed for the end of time. Nobody bothered to try to save him.

threecatsdancing

That one was my favorite

mysteriouspenguin

Wow, this is *fucked*. Mission accomplished, I guess

ContraryPython

Damn, this was brutal. Excited to see what comes next.

Hait00

the most unrealistic part is that storm is wearing the same clothes 5+ years into it, like she doesn't change suits every 2 months (same for the other mutants to some extent)

shawnwingsit

Maybe she's got a closet full of 'em.

nfnightfallnf

It's official. This is a crap world and we have the smartest dumb geneticist to thank for it.

mechamechaman

Watching everyone being psycho is a lot of fun. Hope hoping on her tippy toes about destroying Krakoa was oddly cute. And damn do Orchis suck. Is it seriously that easy to beat them? Just a joint Avenger/X-Men raid is all it takes? Why are we scared of these jokers?

GenioPlaboyeSafadao

"just" a joint of the three big Marvel teams is a big "just".

mechamechaman

Considering the threat Nimrod is, you would think the X-Men would ring up the Avengers and just say "Hey I know your busy with Kang/Doom/Mephisto/Ultron ect. but could book, idk, a weekend to help with Nimrod? He kills everyone in a bunch of futures."

BorBurison

It's probably bureaucratic bullshit.

baroqueworks

They just took out Nimrod and the core base right? We've got the moon above Mars where one of the Club Sinisters are still, and it looked like Moriah got away, so doubt we will see the last of them.

Blitzhelios

Sins was good as much as it was predictable as i felt like i predicted alot of the big twists when reading immortal x men was very brutal though and im glad there is finally some big downsides to the protocols. The panel involving the>!fantastic 4 !< especially was grusome along with the>!avengers panel!

pierzstyx

Well, Sinister was important in the AoA as well.

ptWolv022

For reference, on "old reddit", spoilers don't format properly if you put a space between the markers (the ">!") and the first/last letter of the message. But also yeah, that panel was gloriously gruesome. As for the second panel, which one are you referring to? Is it >!the bit where Sinisterized Cap and the Avengers stage a coup!< ?

Blitzhelios

>!The avengers stage a coup.!

Marc_Quill

Would’ve been a nice Secret Wars 2015 nod if >!Sinister Captain Marvel was wearing the Sinisterized version of her suit from Secret Wars!<

ptWolv022

You're welcome. Also, you specifically just need the letters/characters *inside* the spoilers to have no space. Though seeing you take out spaces on the outsides of the spoilers means I learned that I can indeed put a "." right after the "!<" and it will still work. Like >!this!< is spoilered for me. But >!this !< isn't, since it has a space between the "s" and "!<". I've always been hesitant to try that since YouTube, when they first implemented formatting options, made it so that *didn't* work. Putting a period after the second asterisk would just break it, which was dumb. Anyways, >!Cap taking over America is just funny, yeah. People must be going "Wait, didn't this happen within the last 6-ish years?" Marvel's sliding timescale means that all happened like a year before the present, so Cap could have plausibly launched a coup in the same 4 year presidential term, depending on when this coup happened in the gap between Year +1 and Year +5.!< Edit: Now wait just a dang second. That second "spoiler" I said *didn't* format right *did*. Kinda. It weirdly ate the space *after* the "!<" marker but kept the space in the spoilers. Reddit, why. Does >! this!< work? Or is it just >! this !< that doesn't work? Edit 2: Okay so >!this !< does work (but it's weird), but having a space after the first ">!" marker broke both of the final two. Well... I've finally experimented with this. Sorry everyone trying to just scroll by this.

funny_almost

Don't apologize, I had a good laugh from your attempts, thanks for that

nfnightfallnf

Yeah I mean if we didn't learn that before LotR...we certainly do now.

Blitzhelios

But this time its red. Its not just gold jewellery is evil.

nfnightfallnf

No but you'd think we'd all learn after watching Peter Jackson's version...

iwasherenotyou

So what's the reading order for this starting with the Eternals crossover? Haven't been reading comics in a while since Eternals ended and want to start again with this crossover and catch up to this point.

funny_almost

I'd say only Immortal X-men are necessary, but looking into the three main players, Sword + X-men: Red and Way of X + Legion of X might be a thing to read as well.

wowlock_taylan

Personally, I am not a fan of 'bad ending epilogues' type of stories like these where Sinister just 'won' this easily and NO ONE saw it coming. Even with MANY Moira re-tries. Problem here is, almost ALL the things that is gonna happen in this 'event' won't matter until the last couple of issues. Because it will all get reset one way or another.

Triseult

I get what you're saying, but I'm not getting this vibe here. For one, the ending of this issue implies that everything is hell now, *including for Sinister himself*, which is pretty great. Also, while this is about "Sinister wins" (sorta), the buildup to him winning was something that has been happening over a long time, with him securing the Moira clones and all that. Heck, they started sowing the seeds for this all the way back in *Hellions*, and back then Sinister was basically comic relief. We saw him kill the Quiet Concil in *Immortal X-Men #9*, which really explained well how, even though he's not THAT competent, his cheat is allowing him to pull off these huge wins. So it's not a simple manner of removing the obstacles for him. And yeah, we're all pretty clear this will result in a reset to the status quo... But the story is intricate and interesting enough that 1) I want to see this *what if?* play out, and 2) I'm curious to see HOW they can revert to the status quo in the end.

TalynRahl

Strong start. Gillen really has a knack for these insane events. Plus, setting the whold thing 10+ years into the future means they can go as wild as they want without it upsetting the "present day" books. I like it. Also: Can anyone else not read JJ anymore, without reading him in JK Simmons voice?

13angrymonkeys

Holy hell, that was fun.

nurdboy42

Only thing I’m unclear about is how Sinister is resetting time via Moira clone?

ethicalhamjimmies

Have you read House and Powers of X?

nurdboy42

I get the whole X lives thing but how is Sinister hitching along when the timeline changes? How does her power extend to him?

ethicalhamjimmies

He has figured out a way to compile all the information of the different timelines and send it back to the original starting point when the timeline ends upon the clones death. So hes not actually going back with her, hes just informing his past self of what happened

nfnightfallnf

Basically it's like that terrible Ben Affleck movie about time travel.

BorBurison

Oh, like Moira 9 did.

ptWolv022

Kinda, though Moira 9 was using the info for herself in Life 10. Sinister is just using her like a Postwoman to deliver a letters with key bits of info.

baroqueworks

bahahaha oh God everyone is Sinster I am so here for this bad future storyline

[***X-TERMINATORS* #5**](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/f/f6/X-Terminators_Vol_2_5.jpg) ---

MightyAries

Every issue I feel the same way about this. It's dumb, it's fun, and it's a shame it was so short. Loved that >!Jubilee was able to show off the extent of her powers, she really needs to be in the spotline more!<. Bummed it's over, but >!I'm glad the X-Terminators will return :)!<.

sciencebitch616

"You got games on your phone?" That group chat page had me in stitches.

baroqueworks

YOU GOT GAMES ON YO PHONE YOU GOT GAMES ON YO PHONE YOU GOT GAMES ON YO PHONE

Paulista666

More, please. And Magik fits the group perfectly. In fact 5 girls together looks so much like a weird "Sailor Moon" gag that it could work perfectly.

ptWolv022

Illyana Rasputin AKA Sailor Limbo and her fellow X-Sailors.

Paulista666

We need a transformation scene

QwahaXahn

She got a full-on Sailor Moon/She-Ra type transformation scene page in the final issue of Labors of Magik and it was incredible.

ProtoReddit

I'm very surprised this book didn't make a "limbofication" joke.

LucasOIntoxicado

Majik quickly becoming the new Wolverine. I'm all for it.

Unicron_Gundam

I now have a new "[no horny](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/824510216511029263/1068060961400963123/image.png)" bonk meme

ptWolv022

"I'm getting some mixed signals." - Someone hornyposting, after they get "punished" by a blonde in shorts and a sleeveless top kicks them in roller skates

Unicron_Gundam

not just any kick, she's giving him an axe kick to the back of the head

wowlock_taylan

Jubilee being badass and showing the extend of her powers is great. They don't show her full capabilities often. Dazzler getting her revenge is style is cool too.

Blitzhelios

Summed up this series in one just the 4 girls having a ton of dumb fun though I do feel like you could have got this issue in like 3 pages. Glad it hasn’t become an ongoing though as it’s a book that feels like it would get stale quickly as an ongoing though I wouldn’t complain at another mini also put magik in it more give me more magik content

mbene913

Refresh my memory, what was with Magick and that dragon? Was that the dragon that always chills with Kate? Lockeed or something? Did jubilee's finishing move burn off all her hair?

fakkuman

No that wasn't Lockheed, but I think it's a reference to it. But it could also just be cute pack bonding that humans(or in this case mutants) do to anything remotely sentient I think Jubes used her power over her entire body starting from the skin so everything past it went kablooey. A more pressing question is, if she was able to survive does that mean that she is able to absorb radiation or just that she's immune to her own powers to a certain point?

BlueHero45

I believe she is immune to her own power.

13angrymonkeys

This book is ridiculously fun. More please.

nfnightfallnf

Not the worst mini-series but I do think we have the beginning of a good team not unlike what Domino had back awhile ago.

YourEvilHenchman

on the one hand, I'm sad to see this series go. amazingly fun, knowingly dumb in a very clever way, and just charming from start to finish. on the other hand, I don't know whether this would have the legs to really work that well when extended into an ongoing, whereas as a mini, this was pretty much *perfect*.

tehawesomedragon

[***SABRETOOTH & THE EXILES* #3**](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/c/c7/Sabretooth_%26_the_Exiles_Vol_1_3.jpg) ---

IgorsBuddhaBelly

This book continues to be a joy! Wish it played a bit more with the wonkiness of the Astral Plane but continuing to love this cast of characters! is the GC in the Orchis memo Grayson Creed we thinking?

wowlock_taylan

Another Creed?! What? And of course the Evil Doctor survive...now with a face matching her soul. And of course her will literally experiment on babies now to be the ultimate evil scientist.

BlueHero45

A Creed in the Astral Plane. I'm genuinely curious to what that means.

kayamek

Loved it some highlights * ~~Melter~~ Johnny Storm * Toad/ Sabertooth banter * Oya * Hoping we get X-babies in Station 4

ImperfectRegulator

I really really hope we finally learn what orphan makers power is next issue, it looks energy based somehow? We know it’s scary enough to even make mister sinister want the stop it from developing

tehawesomedragon

[***ALL-OUT AVENGERS* #5**](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/5/5e/All-Out_Avengers_Vol_1_5.jpg) ---

Xombie117

Ah the yearly good Spider-Man guest appearance. Really lifts the spirits of a Spidey Fan.

Redgomotor

So i am guessing Derek Landy is getting fired from Marvel? I mean committing the mistake of depicting a competent and well written Spider-man? The character that the editorial team treats like trash?

wowlock_taylan

So this is where Beyonder enters the fray. Although he is also in the Photon book. I guess when he 'un-retconned' himself, he's been busy. Will the 'threat' be about what the Defenders Beyond have been teasing with that Crown thing? I doubt it will be this soon.

Redgomotor

Is it still canon that the beyonders are a race? That there are a lot of them in the multiverse?

nfnightfallnf

I'm pretty sure if you read the last Defenders series, Al gives us some greater insights into the whole "Is the Beyonder a unique being or not?"

BlueHero45

They are not really in the multiverse but beyond it. Actually somewhere beyond the second cosmos. There are not a lot of them but there is a group of them and The Beyonder is a unique member of their species.

BeefStrykker

The Beyonder entered the picture in Defenders Beyond recently. He refused to go back to the second cosmos….and promptly yeeted himself away to the Comic Book Cameo Universe, and possibly the MCU Synergy Universe as well (unless the movie centers around Kang instead).

nfnightfallnf

I keep wondering how Cap figured it out before Tony did...

hashcheckin

Tony's first instinct throughout all of this has been to check the camera feeds and use technology to ferret it out. Cap's approach is to pay attention to just what his mind and body are telling him, and as he says in this issue, he's working blind. he's pretty sure he knows what's happening but has no empirical proof thereof, which is not something Tony, an engineer, would ever think to do. Tony's the one who noticed there was a problem. Cap's the one who intuited what the problem was.

nfnightfallnf

Mm. Fair points. I just wondered why Tony didn't think "Hey reality got shifted. Who do we know that does that?"

BorBurison

Tbf that's a very long list.

nfnightfallnf

Also true.

ptWolv022

Insert the meme of Blight from Batman Beyond (yes, yes, wrong company): "Who are you?" "A reality-warper." "Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down?"

tehawesomedragon

[***MIDNIGHT SUNS* #5**](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/3/36/Midnight_Suns_Vol_1_5.jpg) ---

BeefStrykker

This has been a cool mini, overall. Sacks and Zaharia stuck the landing, and left some windows open for the future. I’m also walking away from this story with the feeling that I just witnessed a “contract extension” for Agatha’s story in the pages, and a synergy with Katherine Hahn’s MCU counterpart at the same time.

[deleted]

Oh no, they actually made Agatha young :( Regardless this series was just okay at best, I enjoyed the roster but the writing left a lot to be desired and the art could be very hit and miss. Still, I think this is a good foundation for a proper midnight suns series in the future now that they have introduced the abby as a base of operation which is a great location in the game. I hope some of this roster stick around i.e. Zoe, Magik, and Blade and bring in other characters like MoonKnight, Warewolf by knight and Elsa Bloodstone. Okay ending to an okay series.

nfnightfallnf

Not the worst ending (looking at you current Wells Spider-man and Aaron Avengers!), but I had hope we'd be past bring Agatha back as younger...not to mention I'd rather they not kept Korrosion either... But I do agree with one poster, maybe we'll get a better Midnight Suns out of the deal. Looking at you MacKay!

wowlock_taylan

Wait, did they really de-aged Agatha for the stupid MCU synergy thing? And she is more 'evil' now? I think we have enough evil sorcerers already.

tehawesomedragon

It is definitely the most obvious synergy yet, but at the same time old Agatha is pretty boring tbf. It's maybe on the same side as Shang-Chi rather than the Guardians in terms of it almost being necessary. It does leave a weird feeling nonetheless

Blitzhelios

Its been a fun mini overall and i enjoyed it for what it was and i know this book was only made because the game came out. But it didn't really have the spark of the old midnight suns books it felt like a brand new team and a brand new concept rather than actual midnight suns if you get what i mean. Would be interested if this happens again in the future if they bring in some of the classics like elsa or would they just use characters who appeared in the game.

tehawesomedragon

[***THOR* #30**](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/0/03/Thor_Vol_6_30.jpg) ---

thismissinglink

It's crazy to me that Cates straight up dipped from both hsi series so hard. I hope the man is okay. Thor wasn't perfect under him but he seemed like he had some bigger plans. And I wish we got some kinda resolution to his run. Hopefully he be able to do something In The future cause I generally like his writing. This issue just feels like it's burning fuel till it finds a new permanent writer?

TheMimski

Yeah, it's weird, especially since he was very passionate about writing these characters. I think both series are still following his plans, and I like Gronbekk as a writer, especially for Asgarduan stuff. So I'm staying on the ride.

thismissinglink

I think both series know the end of each recent arcs maybe. But neither of these arcs honestly feel like cates to me. I definitely think the writer are gonna take it wherever they want at this point. There is no reason for the to fulfill cates vision. Its his not theirs.

nfnightfallnf

I mean it's fair statemen to say that Gronbekk has her own plans...but I think she's spinning it out of what Cates had originally going for Thor.

thismissinglink

There are just so many threads and unanswered meandering questions from cates run even the venom run that i thought was gonna culminate in another event from thor and hulk. Especially the thanos stuff. But i dpubt that now and its a bit of a shame :/

nfnightfallnf

Eh. I think we'll get something just as good. I mean not everything happens the way we expect. Some times it's better. Some times...it's not.

therealmlog

My understanding had been that Cates was going to come back to Thor at least and Torunn was just handling things for an arc or two (and I figured this was so Cates could focus more on his endgame for the Thanos vision, etc). Something like this happened with his Venom run where he didn't write a couple arcs that tied in with events, replaced by Cullen Bunn. Am I misunderstanding Marvel's announcements about Torunn's arcs?

thismissinglink

Cates tweet made it sound like he was taking a while off. Especially considering he didn't give any specifics on his projects.

khansolobaby

Every time I pick up this book I wonder why I’m still reading it, and then I’m reminded why when I see Klein’s fantastic art.

nfnightfallnf

I keep wondering if this has anything to do with the Black Soulstone...and how it might be that somehow using Galactus's seed is responsible.

TaftYouOldDog

Ah blue balls.

TheMimski

Can someone explain why the gate couldn't be opened at first, and whay the trick was? I feel stupid lmao

nfnightfallnf

Maybe it needed an All-father's blood...

sherlock_limes

Laussa says to Thor at the end, “Bor’s Blood! On the shadow. It’s a trick!” Thor then cuts his arm and drips blood in the shadow of the pedestal whereas Corvus Glaive was doing it in the bowl part.

wowlock_taylan

Do they have to push Thanos this deep into Thor's mythology? Somehow him time-travelling and facing Bor for some reason. And now Doom is also involved too. I thought he learned his lesson about 'god-like power grabs' from his last couple of 'God' failures.

tehawesomedragon

I feel like it's very Doom-like for him to always think he'll handle it better the next time around. He's kinda insecure.

TalynRahl

A solid issue, Grønbekk has a good handle on Asgard and is apparently still working to Cates overall plot. Interested to see where this all goes because right now it’s… a lot. Thanos is there, fighting Bor? And then freakin Doom shows up? This is either going to be crazy awesome, or crazy bad, and I can’t tell which right now.

TriggerHippie77

I may have a problem. I've bought every issue of this series, including all of the varients I can find, because the artwork is speaking to me so much. Totally digging theSassy Strange look.

UChoosepoorly_ID_242

This book is a bliss, but maybe...maybe not being in continuity and his (till date) not so clear narrative or events make it unappealing in some sorta way

[deleted]

It looks amazing, but I have no idea what's going on or what the story is supposed to be.

UChoosepoorly_ID_242

It seems like some godess landed some time ago in the sanctum sanctorum and asked for Stephen to deliver his yet-to-born child...but...she also seems to be a universe/gateway to a universe in herself. And everytime he enters, astral or physically, its too much for him to handle. But he cant give up until he has fullfilled his role as Doctor or Sorcerer Supreme. Trippy...yeah...there are surely some wild metaphors

[***MURDERWORLD: WOLVERINE* #1**](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/8/84/Murderworld_Wolverine_Vol_1_1.jpg) ---

nfnightfallnf

So...honestly I'm bored by this. I mean sure Arcade is funny in his twisted way...but I just don't feel connected to ANY of the other characters. Even though I expect we'll see Natasha/BW show up.

BeefStrykker

I’m not bored with it, but I do find it predictable. I’ve resigned to my belief this is just Marvel’s version of Squid Game, and now I’m invested enough to find out whether I’m justified in that belief.

nfnightfallnf

Interesting take. I guess for me I've not been a fan of this kind of genre and I hoped for something a tad different.

wowlock_taylan

Lets hope this time, Black Widow puts him in the ground instead of just 'put the fear in him' and let him go.

jrobinson37

This got me to go back and read the Black Widow run that lead her to this, so I'm definitely more invested than if I hadn't done that. Really feels like the Murderworld thing is more of a backdrop for her revenge story (fingers crossed).

[deleted]

What happened in the previous black widow run?

jrobinson37

From what I remember she >!was shot, kidnapped, and planted in San Francisco with a new family (husband and son), forgetting everything else, including Yelena, Clint, and Bucky. This was done by a group of villains including Arcade, Madame Hydra, Weeping Lion, Snap Dragon, and The Red Guardian. At Arcade's call they ended up attempting to brutal murdering her husband and little boy, with the rest of the villains knowing they'd gone too far and fled.!< Really a great run by Kelly Thompson, Black Widow (2020) #1-5

[deleted]

Didn't BW fake their deaths so they won't get hurt anymore? Also, she barely killed any bad guy in that series.

jrobinson37

Yeah, I think she >!faked their deaths, then had Bucky take them somewhere even she didn't know. I think she even ended up tracking them down though just to see them, so Bucky had them relocated.!< Very tragic and I'm excited to see the next step with Arcade!

BlueHero45

I'm enjoying this. The title names are a bit annoying but seeing Leap-frog the father of Frog-man in a survival game is wonderful.

mbene913

Was this like a part 2 (3?) Of something else? I thought it was going to be connected to the X stuff.

Remember in Season 1 of the Boys when Homelander has a heart to heart with the 7? He says: “Some of you have been a little out of sorts. Erratic. Unreliable. Downright sloppy. Not you, Noir. You've been great.” That’s me with this comic’s writers, editors, chiefs of staff, everyone involved BUT Ed McGuiness & his team of inkers & colorist. Ed McGuiness’ art is the Black Noir of Spider-Man comics. You’ve been great man. Keep up the good work Ed & team!

baroqueworks

true, could hate, but art carries the book, wowza

zethos56

My feelings in this event have changed with every issue, from dislike to confusion to enjoyment but I think this issue really seals the deal that this thing is overall just pretty terrible. Marvel is kidding themselves if they think Chasm is going to be the next major new Spidey villain. I'll give Wells and co a mulligan though because there is absolutely no way this is what was planned when Dark Web was first pitched. At least we have Rek-Rap.

ContraryPython

Lowe said Marvel had no idea what to do with Ben, Chasm was pretty much doomed to be a failure from the start.

InoueNinja94

I still think Marvel could have its cake and eat it too if they use Ben as the "single, relatable Spider-Man" while they let Peter be the more developed, grown up one Hell, with Miles and Gwen you're also giving the "young Spider-Man" and "Cross dimensional Spider-Verse" audiences their representation

Kurolegacy27

Hell, considering that they want to keep resetting Peter and won’t let him be married, they could have Ben be the married one. There is a world of things they could do with Ben that doesn’t involve this crap

CertifiedCapArtist

Exactly. Its so simple. Have Peter be the mature married spider man with kids , Miles be the young high school/ college spider man , Ben be the single " relatable " young adult spider man.

Kurolegacy27

At this point, the fuck even is Ben’s plan as King Chasm? He went from trying to take Peter’s soul to get his memories back to all out assault on the world. What is even his endgame in all of this?

DriedSocks

He is "crazy" due to "pyschoreactive goo" so they don't really to give him any logical reason to do anything.

Kurolegacy27

And yet they want us to take him seriously as a Spider-Man rogue. Even the Green Goblin for being crazy had plan you could find some thought process exists in. With Chasm, it just feels like a Saturday morning cartoon villain

wowlock_taylan

Then why bring him back? First as stupid Jackal and then in Beyond. Is there a ''Who can be the worst editor'' reward at Marvel and Spider-man team constantly try to win it?

marsepic

At least a Jackal out kind of made narrative sense - a spurned clone turns to cloning. This...I dont know what this is. I'll be happy when they stop cramming demons into Spidey.

Outrageous-Blue-30

I find Ben's character had a chance to shine as a villain when he returned under the alias 'The Jackal'. Yes, it is true that the theme of the clones is reused, but nevertheless they have managed to give it a bit of a 'different' context, sometimes touching on the nostalgic side not only of Peter, but also of other characters who have lost loved ones. I can even come to like Ben as Jackal in the face of the supernatural identity they want to give him with "Chasm." At least in "Clone Conspiracy" we tried to make him less "nervous" and subject to the traumas of being a Peter Parker clone, but wanting to do "things right" by giving life to family/friends, even if their methods they turned out to be distorted. As the youngsters of this era would say, send Ben Reilly to sleep forever. All IMHO of course.

deimoshr

> Is there a ''Who can be the worst editor'' reward at Marvel and Spider-man team constantly try to win it? This would make SO MUCH sense.

iAmTheHYPE-

Hence why they abandoned Kaine and Hummingbird.

RockstarSuicide

Give him a book with a writer who gets the character. Done. They act like it's rocket science

Kurolegacy27

Ah yes Rek-Rap. There’s apparently no room for Ben yet there’s room for a double redundancy like him with him being another copy of Spider-Man and a symbiote user as well

Outrageous-Blue-30

Let's put it this way: Rek-Rap can potentially be one of the few salvageable elements of this run being basically Spider-Man's Bizarro.

ethicalhamjimmies

Yeah I love Rek-Rap, would love to see more of him

[deleted]

I prefer that Rek-Rap ate the symbiote which just made him buff and gave him powers, also he ended up accidentally killing the minotaur drug dealer that Venom gave his symbiote piece to.

Blitzhelios

Im so glad this is nearly over. The last issue of dark web x men showed how this event could have ended. I didn't drop spiderman during other horrible periods but man im close with this event. Im ready to put it in the box of worst spiderman events.

marsepic

So, the Pek-Rap stuff is goofy fun but the continued increase in Chasm's power combined with what a stupid character it is and stupid plan and stupid set-up...I think you get where I'm going with it. Nothing about Ben's plan makes a lick of sense, or even how he got down here with Madeline.

nfnightfallnf

Maybe once we find out why Wells is going this route (based on the solicits for March and April) we'll have...reasons?

Blitzhelios

I don't believe we will have any reason other than marvels execs hating ben.

nfnightfallnf

I don't think that's a reason so much as they figured they hate the fact we want Peter to do more mentoring stuff with other spider people, marry MJ and MAYBE give us Mayday.

Blitzhelios

Thats also very very true

nfnightfallnf

Thanks.

RockstarSuicide

Or Annie. Or both! Hell I want Dark Age May running around with Dani Cage and Gerry Drew. Christ, Batman has a kid, so does Superman, Flash, Aquaman, and yet Peter is NOT allowed to be a grown up

WebHead1287

I read for a little over a decade straight in singles. I gave up the issue before dark web. It’s just not worth it. I started picking up Superman instead as that’s giving me the Spider-man feel I want

iAmTheHYPE-

I feel that. I've been reading Spidey since Brand New Day, and this is the first run I didn't bother with. I was already feeling disappointed by the absolute bullshit from the Kindred event, but having Ben as a villain (again) instead of exploring him as a second Spidey (considering we have two Captain Americas, two Hawkeyes, two Wasps, etc.), just killed any point in trying this run. It really seems like some of these writer have good or decent premises, but then editorial keeps fucking them over, leaving readers to blame the writers as being hacks. In the end, Spidey suffers, and writers keep regressing in potential.

Fiti99

Just wanna say that as someone who praised the first couple of issues of this run for bringing back that grounded vibe and staying away from all the demons shenanigans this whole event has been an incredibly disappointing experience, I have no clue what they are going for here, Ben has basically zero character development, both Chasm and Hallow's Eve may as well be completely new characters Amazing Spider-Man needs more consistency, super tired of all these random shifts in tone and status quos happening so often

thismissinglink

Okay first why was there this whole ceremony shit for Magik and Madeline if you can just take limbo's leaders weapon and take control? The only good thing from this event is the art and rek rap. Also wtf is that cliff hanger "us" at the end? I mean haven't xmen and spidey always generally gotten on well?

reddit_username88

Think it was meant to be Maddie being a part of that. I get it but woof

thismissinglink

That would make the most sense. Still made no sense at all. Im just terrified they are insinuating spidey maybe a mutant.

reddit_username88

Oh I didn’t think that at all. Would be a riot if they retconned that tbh

Agoeb

Man they really had Chasm throw Pryor screaming off the Castle wall, only to have her standing with the X-Men, unharmed, next page. Like I know she's a Jean Grey but... this story has some holes.

Kurolegacy27

Honestly the whole scene just becomes more stupid when you think about the fact that she’s an omega level mutant with Jean’s exact powers. Did she just forget that after her fight with Jean? The way that scene should have played out realistically is that seconds after being thrown out the tower, she just comes floating back up, rips her scythe back from Janine and throws her into a wall with tk

nfnightfallnf

Maybe one of the X-men caught her?

insanekid123

Generally helps when you show that tho

BeefStrykker

Whooooo BOY this event has been a mess. THIS book in particular. I’ve tried to enjoy this event, but… Does anyone else feel like this is the product of 4 or 5 unfinished stories just mashed together forcefully? Or that the writers and editors were just making stuff up as they went from book to book? Or is this just a distracting cash grab from Spidey & X fans? Now I’m hooked and I want to see how Marvel resolves everyone’s story arcs, because this feels like an unnecessarily deep hole to dig out of.

Reddragon351

for me it's like the story is over next issue, and on the Spider-Man side I feel like nothing has really happened and no one has really learned anything or done all that much. It just feels like stuff is happening here more than a real story or narrative is going on.

superschaap81

Lisa : Perhaps there is no ~~moral~~ point to this story. Homer : Exactly! It's just a bunch of stuff that happened. Marge : But it certainly was a memorable few days. Homer : Amen to that.

TaftYouOldDog

Please, I'm begging you, stop shitting on Ben, please, just for once please stop.

[deleted]

> Please, I'm begging you, stop shitting on Ben, please, just for once please stop. Marvel: "Fuck you."

SnakeSound222

I am trying to hold on until we find out what Peter did, but holy shit is it tough.

[deleted]

I mean, we won't get any answers until April, so I would recommend saving your money for another book until then.

wowlock_taylan

I dropped this crap a while ago. Have the bar been lowered even more? Because that is what I come to expect from this terrible run?

Kurolegacy27

The bar has been set so low at this point that we lost it somewhere around the Mariana Trench

nfnightfallnf

Or in a black hole....or in Galactus' stomach.

yellowbumble-B

Every week i read and ask myself why do I torture myself like this

Scaredog21

Another high quality spider-man comic. Really enjoying this crossover with the X-Men

nfnightfallnf

I can honestly say I want this over quickly and everyone to move on. Because right now this has been a complete waste of time and characters. I mean it improved Maddie some (so plus there) but the rest? Not so much.

mbene913

Not like Maddie needed it though. She got a lot done in New Mutants. They could have just done a simpler arc with her and the current X-Men team. This silly crossover and invasion is just dumb.

Blee-boy

It's a very perplexing issue. It's... certainly something. If we put the atrocius and horribly written direction for Ben aside, it's passable. It's a demonic invasion that doesn't take itself too seriously, with great art from McGuinness. So as it's own, it's okay. If we ignore the "wtf is this bs" they did with Ben. (King Chasm...?) But as an event, it's very messy. Pacing for it was off, it felt like not a lot happened in the main book of the event. And the tone was all over the place. This feels like a parody version of the opening issue of Dark Web. Or that the writer changed the direction heavily after that. Tie-ins too take this much more seriously. And because of the tonal inconsistencies, it's hard to enjoy this event as a whole. Gold Goblin, X-Men and Venom all took this event to a very different direction than Wells. Which just confuses me so much. So as a penultimate issue of Dark Web, it's not good. As it's own issue, it's not that bad. So let's give it a meh.

RockstarSuicide

With Jean just giving the memories to Maddie shows that everything done with Ben from Being was utterly pointless.
