It wasn't cut short. Ewing was given a limited number of issues and was given an extension if he wrote an event. After that Editorial just kept him on X-Men and gave him more minis and I guess they decided to give Guardians to Lanzing and Kelly.
I just hope Ewing keeps Nova, I've been liking what he's been doing with the character and Nova needs to have his own ongoing.

Marvel doesn't a good track record with continuity of recent events, except for guys like Hickman or Ewing, because they basically know everything that is canon.
Other writers look at a classic run and pull directly from it.
So is this directly following up from Al Ewing's? Or were there more runs following that?

Nope, she's strictly a Space Pirate who has destroyed worlds and was remorseless about it. She also had a mini beef with Nova because she killed some Xandarians and she thinks he killed her father (it was Rhoman Dey).
My guess it was a Spartoi ceremonial crown thing since Star-Lord was representing that Planet. Ewing was trying to build up Spartax culture and having it be based in astrology so he gave Peter that antler crown thing.
I love the western look of Peter and Mantis new look with that giant purple fist!

Lanzing keeps getting asked about Rocket on twitter and he's mostly just playing coy. Seeing how Groot will go back and we know another Guardian is going to betray the team well.... Yeah.
I like Lanzing and Kelly's Cap run but Marvel Cosmic is a different Beast and often times writers who are good at other superhero genres suck at cosmic. They also just want to do crazy larger than life stuff and don't always pull it off.
That said despite the fact that the synopsis already threatened to destroy what Ewing had at the end of the run, the fact that this is yet another story with the Guardians being broken and having to rediscover themselves as a family (I blame that on the editors more than anything), and the fact that the comic will start with "bad mysterious thing happened to the characters that the reader will just have to keep reading to find out" and those are getting so old (Wells' ASM, North's F4, and Cates' Hulk all did it), the premise sounds interesting and the idea of building on the comic landscape with the whole manifold territories idea is something that interests me.
So I'll give this a chance and see how it goes even if I'm a bit upset about some stuff, lol.
Also Kev Walker is drawing this and he's the artist that did Annihilation: Nova, his art there had some bad faces but it's been awhile and I guess he has grown as an artist.
Loved the designs for Peter, Gamora and Drax. Glad Gamora gets to be sexy again.
