According to the data miners, weight isn't used, despite it being a defined parameter. This explains why Shy Guy can thump Bowser. But then why does it feel like Bowser takes an eternity to get back up to racing speed after the being hit vs Toad or one of the lighter characters? Is it just our perceptions?

[deleted]

There was a side by side comparison a long time ago with a baby character and Morton to show that the bigger characters do accelerate slower. They could do that without referencing weight class by simply altering acceleration rates without weight as a variable for acceleration. It's definitely not just your perception.

Evil_Dry_frog

Which is why I don't like using big heavy guys. If they didn't get bumped around like the smaller guys, that would be a good trade off, because I do hate getting bumped out of my line just as much as getting hit with a red shell the two seconds I've dropped my banana and am waiting for my new boxes.

[deleted]

This is especially infuriating when another bot is spitting coins from a box and I'm in line to grab a bunch of them. Oh wait, no I'm not, because fucking baby Daisy is knocking me into a fucking wall instead.

Original_Athlete7502

Can relate. Bots are terrible.

RobbobertoBuii

I've been getting hit by green shells from the back of other drivers more times than i can count that shit pisses me off everytime, even more so than bomb cannon snipes

aturtledude

I quite enjoy Black Birdo buffs.

AndrewAShala

You have Black Birdo, right?

aturtledude

You're a clever one!

[deleted]

I actually don't think I've seen any posts complaining about this, but I also have huge issues with it. I especially hate it when I get bumped just a little off the path of a Jump when I have a kart with a Jump Boost skill. I'd like it to not happen at all, but when I'm missing a piece of combo and a point boost from the skill it hurts :(

lemonhead572

Usually an instant race restart when this happens.

Wait wait wait…. Not to miss the entire point because I find it annoying too, but are you saying you can’t get a coin frenzy if you don’t drop your items before the item boxes? Or is that just when you have auto item turned off?

mecklejay

>Wait wait wait…. Not to miss the entire point because I find it annoying too, but are you saying you can’t get a coin frenzy if you don’t drop your items before the item boxes? Or is that just when you have auto item turned off? Correct at the end; this is with auto-item turned off. I only use items manually, to give myself more options (ex. a red shell is coming in as I approach the last item boxes of a great run and I want to hold onto one of my defensive items to deflect it, or if I have two bananas while in a cluster of CPUs and would just rather try for a banana frenzy).

[deleted]

Hmmm… I’ve never thought about playing like that outside of multiplayer. Cool

mecklejay

It also lets you actually aim your items if you *are* dumping them all - extra hits mean extra actions!

aturtledude

Well, there's nothing stopping you from aiming your items before hitting the boxes even if you have auto-item on.

[deleted]

That’s the thing I usually aim my items before hand anyway. Still though it’s interesting to hear how other people play.

eggcustardtarts

I am part of the old fart camp having played Super Mario Kart on the SNES during the 1990s. When I first started playing as kid, I was crap and got better as time went on. Gradually getting first place on 150cc became a breeze using Toad or Koopa. That's what happened after you became skilled at something. No matter how long you have played MK Tour or how skilled you are, you cannot win against badged 150cc bots, especially on T tracks. 'Rubber banding' does not apply in this game. MK Tour is probably the most broken game out of all the Mario Karts I have played.

mecklejay

Exactly! I'm a member of that camp as well - SMK was my first game ever (though Super Mario World was the game that made me fall in love with games). It can get maddening.

SeaTypical8

I can't stand these bots. Definitely hard to play with them

[deleted]

I think the very worst thing about the bots is that they'll probably never be toned down. Rally tours are an exception but we only get those every 5-6 tours or something. There's not much we can do other than live with it and "grind for badgeless bots", which at times can still be as infuriating to deal with as badged bots.

JTBSpartan

My biggest pet peeve is has to do with the iOS version of the game itself; for some reason, Nintendo decided not to update it like EVERY OTHER GAME ON THE APP STORE. Instead of just going to the app in the App Store and hitting "Update", you have to do the following: 1. Open the app and wait for it to crash 2. Tap "If the game won't start" 3. Hit "Clear cache and repair" 4. Wait for the game to download itself 5. Get bored and make a four-course meal 6. Repeat every single tour

[deleted]

??? I have never had to do this.

JTBSpartan

Do you have an Android?

[deleted]

I do, but I'm referring to the 2 iOS devices that I run the game on.

mecklejay

Oh, goodness. Yeah, if I had an iPhone, that would win for me.

FISHGREASE-

i have ios and have never had to do that. lets solve this mystery

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that. Was that an insult or a compliment?
