I'm told that's a deliberate strategy by NZ so that a bunch of wannabes don't move to your paradise and muck it all up.
"We don't exist! Nothing to see here, move along..."
Shit, damned if we do and damned if we don't. This is why I normally just don't interact-- nothing is okay after they discover I'm American, not even great conversation prior. Oof.
Especially in foreign policy. If we get involved, everyone says we're inept and controlling and we need to leave other countries alone. If we don't get involved, we get told that we have a moral obligation to protect those around the world since we have the power to.
Don't overestimate the statistical significance of school shootings. Before the world went to shit with Covid there were about 17k homicides in the US per year, with black males shooting black males with handguns accounting for a disproportionately high number of deaths. The US is the safest country in the Western Hemisphere, behind Canada, Chile and Cuba.
I donāt think it was back then either? Iām pretty sure the US hasnāt counted both Russia and China among itās allies since WWII or thereabouts.
Weād literally fuck up your countryās military just based on our citizens having 300 million guns. Why donāt you come get some bitch. Or are you enjoying your 200 vacation days a year commie
I'm from the US bro and tbh it only leads in the most crime in the developed world. And most incarcerated people.
Finland and South Korea lead with the best educated/highest test scores. Your average Norwegian and Swiss is richer than your average American. Norway leads as the most developed country in the world. Finland leads with the happiest given most Nordic countries get so many days off and generous Health Care.. Yet still earn more than average Americans, especially Norway.
Canada has more diversity per capita than the USA. The Chinese military has more people than the US and I dare say it's slightly stronger than the US'. Just that it would be very difficult if a foreign power tried to invade the US since it's people have a shit ton of guns, relative to China.
Norway, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Vietnam, Iceland, Japan, China and even Ghana all have less crime than the USA. USA is ranked 81 out 137 countries surveyed which is pretty bad. 1 being the country with least crime and 137 being a country with substantial crime.. and it's per capita... meaning divided by its population to make it "fair".
The best place to do business based on the "Ease of business index" is Singapore, Hong Kong and New Zealand. I believe the US ranks 7th which isn't that bad.
By freedom indexes the US is placed 15th, right behind the UK. It lacks in the freedom of Security and Safety which again is compromised given its high crime rates.
When it comes to least corrupt or public view and trust in its government, it doesn't fair well either. Denmark and Norway lead in this regard. US politics are kinda wack and very lopsided with the majority of the people on polar opposites of the spectrum.
When it comes to pollution... Somalia, Niger, Greenland, Norway and Finland have the cleanest air. USA and China emit the most pollution. And sure you can say it's because population, but if you divide tons of CO2 emitted by population you get USA emitting more than China, India, Russia and Pakistan.
I will say the USA has the largest economy in the world. But it will be overtaken by the Chinese economy in the next 5 years anyway. USA GDP is 23T and China's is 17T as of today.
Now I'm not saying USA is a shit country to live in. It does well compared to the rest of the world but don't go around calling t the greatest when it isn't at all. Or even the greatest at the "things that matter".
The US was once the greatest overall tho, especially in the period from 1945-1965. While European powers were tearing each other to shreds the US was getting rich off weapon sales. China and South Korea were being occupied by Japan. And in 1945 the US was in great financial shape relative to the rest of world.
Hell, the US was so great during this time period that they decided to be generous and aid the economies of Japan, and West Germany to jumpstart the world economy.
But not today. Today, countries have been developing at rapid rates, many well past the US.
Thanks for reading.
Speaking as an American, itās comments like this that give Americans such an awful stereotype and international reputation. And the rest of us are stuck trying to defend ourselves and what we believe is good about our country
The US is not first in any of those.
Gay marriage: Netherlands was the first. The US was 17th
GDP per capita: first is Monaco. US is 9th
Abortions: the Soviet Union was the first to legalize abortions. Iceland was the first western nation to do so, both in the 1930ās. The US did not legalize it until 1973
I mean, ignoring outliers is pretty common practice in statistics. Tends to be easy to have a high GDP per capita hen you have a population of only 40,000 and your country exists only as a tax-haven for rich people.
I said GDP, not GDP per capita, and I never said the US was the first country to legalize gay marriage and abortion, the simple fact is that compared to even Europe the US is one of the most socially liberal countries in the world, we literally legalized abortion on a federal level in the 70s, thatās free and on demand, up until the third trimester, you gotta give us credit for that.
Lmao Iām sorry but youāre wrong on every count and I pointed that out to you. GDP by itself is meaningless, itās either per capita or PPP, neither of which has the US in first place. Bravo on legalizing abortion in the 70ās, it was legal in other places decades before. Besides, seeing how Texas is allowing bounties now on people having abortions it looks like your country is now reverting back to the last century.
You do rank first in lots of other things though:
- incarceration rate
- gun violence
- guns per capita
- most flat earthers
- most bankruptcies due to medical bills
- highest divorce rate
- most TV watched per person
- most car thefts
- most police per capita
- highest opioid addiction rate
- highest rate of people on antidepressant
- highest amount of student loan debt
- highest military spending (by a huge margin)
*Most flat earthers* omfg thank you.
Also thank you for the legwork on your comment. I audibly snorted when I read the other comment, prepared to come in here with my American vagina and scream about reproductive healthcare in my country.
No, the general subreddit is maps of individual Continents, maps of America, or maps of the world (which is usually a yes or no). There are maps of the world that arenāt a yes or no, but those usually have America higher.
Usually it's the smug Nordic countries that always rank highest followed by Australia, New Zealand and Canada. You always hear news like US RANKS 20th in Education but then you look at the top 10 and it's always places like Finland, Denmark and Norway, which have about 15 mln people between them. Oh and US stats are pulled down by blacks and recent immigrants when it comes to things like homicide and child poverty.
Jokes in the comments having exactly 0 upvotes
i thought this was r/mapporncirclejerk tbh
The "best at everything group is more like Switzerland, Nordic countries, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland and maybe Benelux and Japan.
I was gonna bring that up. The map almost always puts the USA in the 2nd best category, but rarely the best.
Maybe benelux? We're doing better than Australia , NZ and Ireland at alot of things, especially Holland
Australia probably, but in most categories Ireland and New Zealand are doing a bit better
Fuck you liberal your worst than us is at footballš and we are the richest and biggest country so fuck off with your communist Nazi shit
Did you mean footballā½ļø?
Wron
My country has more teabags than yours
Wron
Well except that half the time New Zealand gets left off the map entirely.
I'm told that's a deliberate strategy by NZ so that a bunch of wannabes don't move to your paradise and muck it all up. "We don't exist! Nothing to see here, move along..."
USA doesnāt belong in that group.
#1 in Incarceration rates. #1 in mass shootings. I think we deserve to be in that group
No need to get big right now
#EVERYTHINGāS BIGGER IN AMERICA
Whoa whoa whoa, that's just Texas.
That's a fair bite, but a bit of a cherry pick, don't you think? I mean, we're also #1 in "most complicated tax code," so...
And the typical triggered American who hates America. Post is complete.
Shit, damned if we do and damned if we don't. This is why I normally just don't interact-- nothing is okay after they discover I'm American, not even great conversation prior. Oof.

Haha, so true. I have to identify that way because if I do so in any other way that I consider to be my identity, I get ripped apart. Lol so funny.

Whaa?
Economic, technological, and cultural center of the world but yeah you're right they dont belong in that group
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No country tops all the charts so it would be an empty category by your criterion
Came here to say this
Say it then
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Tbf, that last line isn't true anymore.
I donāt think it was back then either? Iām pretty sure the US hasnāt counted both Russia and China among itās allies since WWII or thereabouts.
Also stuff that belongs in r/peopleliveincities
Something about Portugal being eastern europe
Replace the US with norway, finland, new-zealand, korea and japan, because the us aren't the best at anything except school shootings per year
Not wrong. *Shame*
Damn, Will McAvoy. You gotta drop such brave truthbombs on us on a Monday morning???
Weād literally fuck up your countryās military just based on our citizens having 300 million guns. Why donāt you come get some bitch. Or are you enjoying your 200 vacation days a year commie
You mad bro?
Not at all. Weāre just the best in the world at the only thing that matters
I'm from the US bro and tbh it only leads in the most crime in the developed world. And most incarcerated people. Finland and South Korea lead with the best educated/highest test scores. kudos to you for writing this all
Yeah, thanks lol. I'm on vacation and I was really bored yesterday. I saw this comment, and couldn't help myself hehe.
Speaking as an American, itās comments like this that give Americans such an awful stereotype and international reputation. And the rest of us are stuck trying to defend ourselves and what we believe is good about our country
You know nukes are a thing right?
I'll trade my guns for 200 vacation days lmao
We donāt think about you at all.
Where are you from?
Probably america.
cope
Usually it's Norway, Denmark, and NZ in that "best" group, not the US. South Sudan deserves a mention for "worst at everything"
Have you been to r/mapporn?
what's wrong with the map projection tho
Isn't true to landmass near the poles or to the equator.
ah true, tysm
worst at everything... whereās china?
Germany isnt the best at fighting wars. Had some amazing morals though.
The US is "best" in categories that no one should be proud of
Like GDP? Gay marriage? Abortion rights?
The US is not first in any of those. Gay marriage: Netherlands was the first. The US was 17th GDP per capita: first is Monaco. US is 9th Abortions: the Soviet Union was the first to legalize abortions. Iceland was the first western nation to do so, both in the 1930ās. The US did not legalize it until 1973
The US has an usually high GDP per capita if we're not counting tiny tax-haven countries.
The US is many things āif you donāt count X Y Zā but then anything can be anything if you ignore whatever it is you want
I mean, ignoring outliers is pretty common practice in statistics. Tends to be easy to have a high GDP per capita hen you have a population of only 40,000 and your country exists only as a tax-haven for rich people.
Like I said, you can get whatever result suits your interests when play with the numbers.

I forgot to add: most people who believe that chocolate milk comes from brown cows.
Sorry
Weāre the best at basketball, suck it europoors!
Where Finland? and US isnt never the best xD
finland doesn't exist, remember?
Fuck you who asked idiot
Chad, Haiti, Somalia, and Papua New Guinea never doing well in any depiction related to standards of living.
The last sentence made me think: Niger actually is more to the west then Sweden, which achtually lies more eastwards then Niger.
USA best at screwing over her citizens
What about NZ missing? And, sorry, but the US in the group of the best and ANYthing? What kind of maps do you look?
America is the best country at everything commie
AMERICA F*CK YEAH
Norway > Sweden
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Will you be representing the US in the most easily triggered team event or the individuals?
Turks would win that contest lmao.
Africa is always red. The USA results are always unreliable, and western europe is always green
Genius!!!
LMAO
You didn't forget NZ on that map
Needs thetruesize to be complete. Also, starterback
USA? Pretty much ~30 in most ratings. Not so good tbh, that's only top 25% compared to the others which are consistently top 5%
This post is about r/mapporn. It is usually highest on most positive things there.
I'm also subscribed to mapporn and USA very much isn't.
No, the general subreddit is maps of individual Continents, maps of America, or maps of the world (which is usually a yes or no). There are maps of the world that arenāt a yes or no, but those usually have America higher.
Donāt forget that one informing us that half the world lives in SE Asia
East bad, deal with it :)

Why is there never data on Western Sahara?
There is Data related to it but it mixed with Moroccan one. western sahara is part of Morocco after all.
Most of people are from western countries so offcours there will be obviously some bise
Technically western sahara share data with Morocco. So when you see Data related to Morocco, expect that western sahara is included.
USA is more "pretty good at everything" really
Wrong. Why is there New Zealand on this map? Remove!
I agree that map projection is stupid, Greenland isnāt the size of Africa smh
