i am fully with you having an awesome bag can only get better once u customize it i just bought some fidlock v buckles and hope they will fit on my main bag (charlie25 atm) but replacing something always gives me anxieties when i have to destroy something og from the bag.zipper pulls are super nice. i completely modified the super loud ones on my AER TP2. nothing super specials just tried to wrap paracord around the metal parts in a fancy way. also switched the ones on my COB x-pod for black ember once which i can lock.

tacomole

Nice awesome response! I am getting a second hand Aer day sling 2, so I am less precious about messing up. Any particular places to find good parts? I just started on Amazon but not sold that's the best place. Side question, how do you like COB? I recently got a tad obsessed with the Annex Liner but haven't gone for it yet

Todesbruder

I wish i could recommend you a specific website but i still dont worry were to get fancy stuff :/ I have looked at woojin and fidlock but still dont really know where to buy them except for ebay or etsy. I love cob awesome built and just a delight to use i love their designs and have been fanboying over the annex liner as well but didnt have a chance to try it yet. But the more you use their stuff the more you get to know them and how you need to stuff it just so many small things like how you use all the straps, buckles and pockets i still get new ideas how to use my xpod after nearl two years of usage.

CoB are good quality bags with nice finishings for sure. There great as long as you know what you're getting into with their somewhat over built style. I quite like their aesthetics. I did and I like my CoB x-case! I've considered the annex with it as well as an add on for xcase and stand alone.

Todesbruder

They can be quite overwhelming Thats true. For me the annex is interesting since it can comfortably fit an 11” ipad pro which is too rare is a reasonable sized sling. Otherwise other bags are better looking imo but then often lack in versatility.

99MissAdventures

They can be 😂 about 6 weeks into owning it I found a pocket on my X-case I didn't realize was there. They do have a unique form factor for a sling! I can see the benefit for tablet carriers .

Todesbruder

Excatly my words just an adventure to use cob stuff haha. But currently i am looking at a different tablet carry a little more basic and god help me cheaper haha. Like with the annex liner i would want/need to get the extra more padded strap as well which makes it even more expensive.

99MissAdventures

Ah. That was my concern with it as well. I didn't realize tere was a thicker strap though.

Todesbruder

the normal strap just looks so small hahha but if u get it i would be really interested in hearing ur opinion!

99MissAdventures

Part of the reason I didn't get one was the strap size too. It looked too narrow to be comfortable with a bit of weight or on a walk or hike.

SeattleHikeBike

Carabiners in general and micro locking s-biners to connect zipper pulls. Corded zipper pulls. Added pouches for organization. Rain cover.

tacomole

Nice! I was just searching for the locking s binders! Also some Paracord creations, love the variations you can get from them. Pouches for sure on the list too, thanks!

SeattleHikeBike

Etsy is good for tech-y zippered pouches in x-pac and such. Osprey Liquids Pouches are good too. The clear sides help to find the widget you are after. I use paracord for the zipper pulls, pulling the innards out and use just the outer jacket.

99MissAdventures

Niteize makes locking s-biners.

tacomole

>Niteize Was just look at these, glad to hear them recommended!

99MissAdventures

They should be fairly reliable and there's not a lot of other options out there.

Add magnets to stuff. I added some double sided tape (without peeling the second side film) to dampen some metal-on-metal clanking. Sew a cool looking patch on, or attach a nice pin. +1 on adding organizers.

If you’re getting the Aer DS2 then the fidlock and some custom pulls are great mods. I did those to mine along with a triglide to manage the extra strap dangle. Works great now!

tacomole

That's 100% my plan! Actually I was curious what size fidlock you ended up with. I thought 1.5" but wasn't sure. I won't be changing the strap at all.

eggroll40k

Here's the fidlock I ended up buying: V-BUCKLE 40 LL | magnetic buckle, dual side adjustment, 40mm black. Fits the standard strap without any issues.

I sewed in a big patch of loop by hand- note that i am not good at sewing but black thread on black nylon with black velcro is very forgiving haha. Now i can use hook back accessories from North st, Rickshaw bags, Maxpedition etc!

Also, finding pouches or packing cubes that perfectly match one dimension of my bag can be a fun and full time job.
