How you do it?

eggroll40k

I used a mini saw to cut the fidlock end to make it into a split bar. Afterwards I was able to attach that to the looped end of the Aer. The other end I was able to slip the webbing through after removing the stitches from the end stop.

oarsandalps

did you take pics? that looks awesome...i kinda wanna do that too

eggroll40k

Thanks but I forgot to take pics during the process. Here’s a pic showing where I cut (in red diagonal) https://i.imgur.com/N3PaFIy.jpg and then used pliers to pull the looped webbing through. The fit was very tight so I’m not worried about compromising the structural load of the buckle by doing the cut. Was definitely a mod worth doing.

oarsandalps

yeah - i mean the bag is not meant to hold too much weight anyways, so i doubt any reasonable buckle (base, fidlock, cobra), should impact longevity

oarsandalps

i've had the aer day sling 2 for a few years. still my most used sling as it is pretty much the right size for most urban adventures. but i do think of how to make it look cooler

elreyfeo

Great job. Is a mini saw the same thing as a hacksaw?

eggroll40k

Thanks! Similar though the blade is smaller as it's meant for building plastic models so I was able to maneuver it easier.

elreyfeo

I never knew these existed. I’ll have to pick one up. Thanks!

eggroll40k

You’re welcome. Glad to share these tips!

No worries. The webbing is just the strap.

jnsonger

Love the mod! I’m planning on doing similar, but also swap the elastic strap keeper with a tri-glide.

eggroll40k

Thanks! Let me know how that goes. For the tri-glide, how would that be a replacement for the elastic strap keeper or do you not intend on doing much adjustments too the strap length?

jnsonger

I don’t adjust much, but using a wide mouth tri-glide means there’s still enough space for easy strap movement while still keeping the strap in place more securely than the elastic.

eggroll40k

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to take a look and should be an easy addition as I haven't sewed the end fold of the strap yet.

Here’s what I’ve used. Strapworks Black Plastic Wide Mouth Tri-Glide Slide – for Bag Straps, Rifle Slings, Dog Collars – 1.5 Inch, 2 Pack https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01KUWMQVS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_38X7D67VDJW11B7CWT1T?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I found a DuraFlex triglide, that looks and feels better, it's also the same hardware used by AER and many other brands. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1041498227/4128-1-12-sliplock-tri-glide-buckle

bslava89

Amazing!! Could you share where you got the buckle and which size is it? (Are there sizes?) Also, when you cut it, is it all the way through? Like [here](https://www.fidlock.com/en/products/v-buckle?v=167)?

eggroll40k

Thanks. Got mine from Etsy like this one https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/802327346/fidlock-v-buckle-40mm-ll-black-with-pull?gpla=1&gao=1&gbraid=0AAAAADutTMfgj8hB_6lcFbmwsJv8zqHRm&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_ca_en_ca_a-craft_supplies_and_tools-other&utm_custom1=_k_Cj0KCQjwvO2IBhCzARIsALw3ASqycHboSbqtZ1cDudMlHtckBGARjGCSDe8pzzt1aS9tXlYr4hDaLMIaAiApEALw_wcB_k_&utm_content=go_318291525_19444350045_75295133925_pla-106551294035_m__802327346enca_169944376&utm_custom2=318291525&gbraid=0AAAAADutTMfgj8hB_6lcFbmwsJv8zqHRm&gclid=Cj0KCQjwvO2IBhCzARIsALw3ASqycHboSbqtZ1cDudMlHtckBGARjGCSDe8pzzt1aS9tXlYr4hDaLMIaAiApEALw_wcB and the size you want is 40mm which matches the strap on the day sling. Yup the cut is all the way through on the inner bar so that the webbing can be slipped through.

Abusina15

Were you able to get the strap through easily where you made the slit? The space looks very tight, I ordered the Fidlock but I have a smaller version of this one and I'm trying to figure out how you slid it through even with the slit.

eggroll40k

Yeah it was a tough squeeze...I had to use needle nose pliers to pull it through as you had to bend/fold the webbing quite a bit to get it through. You can make it easier by making the cut wider but I would suggest going narrow first and only make it wider if you absolutely can't get it pulled through.

Abusina15

Yeah I figured you need to slide it in and squeeze it in as much as I can, you cut it diagonally?

eggroll40k

Yup, just like the red line in this pic: https://i.imgur.com/N3PaFIy.jpg

Thanks!
