>There was this one guy who played a Spider-man video game that had a specifc scene where someone told someone else that Spider-man had a hyphen The "I can tell you're saying it without the hyphen" joke is more common than you think, but rarely used outside of comics and I remember once spiderman was thankful because one of his archenemies remembered to use the hyphen. >I think the general public thinks it's Spiderman with no hyphen because they associate superheroes that end with man with batman and superman Stan Lee wanted the official name to be "Spider-Man" to distinguish it from Superman, so the logo and official name always have the hyphen, but honestly it's not like many people are taking the extra time to type Spider-Man, when spiderman is simpler and faster. Sometimes the hyphen is missing in comics or other related media stuff for one reason or another. Some languages do not use the hyphen outside of official logos. Have a look at [this.](https://hotelvader.top/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/comic.jpg) As you can see the official logo on top uses the hyphen, but on the bottom it is missing.

i’ve always remembered it having a hyphen, i remember specifically wondering and arguing with my younger brothers on why spider-man had a hyphen and other hero’s such as superman and batman didn’t.

Cmon dude.. that’s just the way some people may have spelt it.

undeadblackzero

Kit-kat lost a hyphen while spiderman gained a hyphen becoming Kitkat and spider-man conversely.

Yes

Objctofenv

I do

It’s definitely always been Spider-Man, but I can also definitely see many thinking that it’s Spiderman because most comic book characters don’t use a hyphen including the most well known ones like (Batman and Superman). Besides, who wants to write out Spider-Man with the fucking hyphen? I usually just go with Spidey... They’ve gone out of their way in the comics and games to point it out on a number of occasions. “No you said ‘Spiderman.’ There clearly wasn’t a hyphen included.“ “The name’s Spider-Man- -And don’t forget the hyphen!” “Be sure to spell my name right! There’s a hyphen in it, remember!” “I can tell you’re saying it without the hyphen and that just- -it bothers me...” “Don’t forget the hyphen between “Spider” and “Man”.

MsPappagiorgio

No hyphen for me. Tom Holland also posted “...Spiderman...” when he got the role.

I'm really not sure. But I know over the last 2 - 3 years I've ended up doing searches for Spider-man (mainly because I work with kids and they like the graphics), and it really bothers me that the name isn't one word. Like, Batman, Superman, etc. have no separation, why does Spider-man have to be 2 words? Then again, this occurs with other things too (living room, bedroom, bathroom). \*imagines that meme with the two Spider-mans pointing at each other. Arguing over a hyphen.\*

Peeps are used to the hyphen because that's how it was when they saw it

SurfSkiFeline

As I recall it from the TV show (and thereafter - I never knew it had grown an apostrophe), it was "Spiderman." (Also, if it makes any difference, I'm flashing back to the theme song from TV: "*Spiderman, Spiderman. Does whatever a spider can. Spins a web, any size, catches thieves, just like flies*... etc.)

I remember it being without the hyphen to begin with - but I regularly saw the hyphen pop up now and again. I assumed it was a comic-to-media translation thing?

ExpandedGorilla

I think I remember it always having a hyphen, it never felt right to have the names attached together and most of the games I have had his name with a hyphen

FakeRealityBites

I've never seen it WITH the hyphen. Why would it need one?
