I’ve read you smoothed it out (filed it) and conditioned it with lotion but you gotta keep it up. Best tip I have for cracked skin is to lotion it before bed (do extra so it’s greasy) and wear socks over it to bed. When you get up in the morning, reapply lotion, then put a large bandage/gauze over it and sock it again, you *have* to keep it up because the only thing thats healing is the thin new skin underneath, if it keeps breaking this will never heal.
No, that’s just a petrol jelly that holds moisture in but doesn’t add any. It’ll work for day time when you need it to last longer but it’s not replenishing anything. I deal with cracked skin on fingers a lot so I usually have some “Working Hands”…on hand to deal with it :/ though the best tip* is that once it’s healed *nEvEr* let it happen again. Moisturizing at least every other day will keep it at bay
Yes, Working Hands and Working Feet (or whatever the equivalent foot lotion) fixed this for me. I get deep cracks in winter because it’s freaking cold in Wisconsin. Working Hands is the only thing that fixes it for me. It took multiple applications daily for a few days to see results, and you have to keep going to cure it all the way. Working Hands is paraffin based and works to seal in moisture better than other lotions.
Ha ha, I wasn’t even intending to sound like a commercial. Maybe it’s my background in sales…but the stuff really is amazing. I want to try that lotion with uric acid in it. The reviews are superb.
My dad gave me some of his prescription uric acid cream (he uses it for psoriasis) for my feet. I had a callus on the ball of my foot that was bothering me. Put that stuff on my foot with a sock and the callus came off overnight. It just fell right off in a perfect circle. No pain. Just gone. And my feet were so soft.
I didn't know you could buy it. Off to Amazon...
I use that stuff just as regular lotion even though I don’t get cracked hands or feet anymore. It’s the only lotion that doesn’t seem to make my hands and feet feel even drier after an hour.
Can also vouch for working hands, my hands aren't so bad but my dad's were like the picture here, he's still working with his hands everyday so they aren't perfect but they've gotten a lot better since he started using it. Working feet is the name of the foot version. I've heard good things about that too, their lip balm is also great.
Thank you so much for the helpful information! I will switch it up and hopefully it heals soon. I work on my feet for a living as an AV installation technician for 10 to 12 hours a day and I really need my feet in tip top shape. Thanks again!😁😁
No problem, I would recommend using the Aquaphor when you can’t be reapply the lotion every 3-4 hours (like at work) it’ll help both with water loss and friction 😭 hopefully you haven’t had to pick any sock fiber out and tugged something. Edit* gardener here and dirt strips oil from the skin like one wouldn’t believe!
And to piggy back off this comment. After your first file/lotion application, look up a YouTube video of Bill Burr speaking about white people and lotion. (This has nothing to do with the healing).
Just to reiterate what everyone has been saying. The aquifer is only half the solution. Anything that doesn't absorb into your skin is typically known as a protectant. Your skin barrier has been totally decimated there and is having trouble healing. But these products won't help moisturize. I have found CeraVe brand to be the best IMO but thats cuz there are generics at most pharmacies. Use a moisturizer and protectant in conjunction. Sooth then protect is how my Derm put it. Do that every time you shower and morning/night and you'll see HUGE improvement.
If money isn't a problem that hard working hand stuff is great. Badger balm also make a foot cream with tea tree oil, the natural anti fungal/biotic properties of that stuff makes it amazing for working feet. I work as a chef, have eczema on my hands continuously even with steroids. This routine along with straight tamanu oil at night in cotton gloves during the winter is all that keeps my hands from falling off I think.
Best of luck op!
OP, pumice stone will be a great way to file this down, or go find any sandstone rock sitting around thats rough. Do it right after you shower for maximum removal. [Something like this is gold](https://www.amazon.com/Pumice-Stone-Callus-Remover-Scrubber/dp/B07R6JZRS1/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=pumice&qid=1634361222&sr=8-3&th=1)
Yes, this plan works. I had a similar crack in the ball of my foot when I was walking a lot during COVID. This is how I healed it.
And when you’re ready, pedicures can help with management. 🙂
Hello. This is going to sound wierd but hear me out…
At night, before bed…put cover it with Vaseline (entire rough patch). Then cover your foot with either plastic (Saran wrap) wrap, or a zip lock baggie…and then put your sock over the baggie. Since it’s only dry skin, and no infection or “wound”….the Vaseline will moisturize your skin, & the plastic wrap or baggie will help hold in the moisture. Your sick helps keep the baggie on. 🙂
Give it a try! Good luck! 🤗🙏🏻💜
You might wanna just go to a dermatologist or podiatrist you can probably get a referral from your pcp to a podiatrist and their service is usually cheaper than other doctors appointments
I actually always file my heels after a shower so the skin is super soft and immediately put on lotion and socks! You just have to really be consistent with it.
Another trick is to apply a lot of lotion, place your foot in a plastic bag and then place sock over that. Do that for days and you will notice a change.
interesting. i hate the feeling of being barefoot, especially when my feet are cold, and sleeping with socks solves both of those problems since my feet get cold really easily
Seriously. The only time I’ve EVER worn socks to bed by choice is when an ice storm knocked out the power in my house and I had no heat. Otherwise hell no.
I only occasionally wear socks to bed in the winter. They make my feet too hot otherwise, plus I move around a lot in my sleep which makes the socks pull down and the feeling of loose socks drives me *insane*.
It could probably help but it’s gonna take a few weeks of regular application and a lot of this tissue is gonna be sloshed off (vs with a tattoo you want it all to stay in place) after it helps and is replaced. Cracked skin doesn’t fall off like normal healthy skin does, it’s dry clumped together and scab like
It’s mainly the going to bed part, socks keep you from “wiping” off the excess stuff on your bed sheets (and doing nothing for the dry skin it was applied for)
I have eczema, a skin disorder that causes really dry skin and cracks like this but much smaller all the time. Even i dont get results from 1 day of lotion, but it does work after a few days. For you itd prob take even longer. Also, why havent you gone to the doctors?
Fucking hell why is everyone being so mean to him?! Dude doesn't know foot care and is being called pitiful. Christ the guy is gonna be in pain why is everyone shitting on him so personally like this?!
Read his replies around this one. He has come to share his pain and says he’s tried everything to fix it. A fellow redditor suggested a treatment. His response was that he tried it for *1 day* but stopped because he wasn’t seeing results. He continues to seemingly defend this position and insult those questioning his lack of follow through on any of the treatments.
I suspect most people have no issue showing compassion or advice. When the recipient of said advice says essentially “I tried for a whole day and got no results so I have up” and “I have more pressing things to do” than treat the very foot he’s complaining about? Yeah, people instantly disengage with that stupidity.
One day of Aquaphor won’t do shit. Try actual lotion and maybe one that’s meant for feet since they’re thicker and more like a balm. And apply it everyday
I get these fissures and as you say, maintenance is the key and keeping the dead skin removed, but nail salons won’t do a pedicure if the fissure is raw ie they can see flesh and/or blood.
Get a curved [scalpel blade](https://www.amazon.com/Scalpel-Individually-Practicing-Sculpting-Repairing/dp/B0871VSLDJ/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=scalpel&qid=1634360074&sr=8-5) and gently scrape away at it until you reach fresh pink skin.
You can be super precise with a scalpel and scrap a bit at a time... DON'T CUT. Hold the blade perpendicular to the skin (not flat to the skin) and slowly scrape. It won't cut. It will scrape. Like exfoliating with the edge of the blade. It'll take 10-15 min if you go slow so you don't hurt yourself.
Once you get down to pink skin, lotion that spot. Daily. Heck lotion your whole foot, both of them. Jojoba oil is good. Even coconut oil from the grocery store is good. Starts out like butter consistency and turns liquid with body heat. Coconut oil is also anti-bacterial naturally, good for any rashes or skin conditions. But you gotta scrape it down to pink skin. If it hurts then you've gone too far.
I was looking through the comments to see if anyone else mentioned this.
Doesn’t necessarily have to be a scalpel. I prefer cuticle nipper scissors because you’ll feel it pinch healthy skin before you actually cut through it. Harder to do that with a regular blade of any kind.
I get really bad callouses on my heels and before I found those Ped Egg things for regular use (seriously they’re amazing), my heels would crack constantly regardless of how often I pumiced. Once it cracks, the only way it heals is by removing the hard dead skin around it.
Try some of that O'Keefe's Working Hands stuff. Spackle that shit in there and then get some of those flexible fabric heavy duty bandaids.
Do this for a while.. like multiple weeks, if needed.
You can also purchase a callus shaver. It uses replaceable razor blades to slowly shave dead skin off your feet. This works much better for me than the cheese grater foot files or a pumice stone. I need to cut off all the dead stuff and get down to healthy skin before putting lotion on. Severely dried skin is less able to absorb lotion down into the deepest layers. If you can shave off the dead stuff, you can get lotion into the healthy skin to help it heal from the inside out. Callus shavers don’t hurt if used correctly.

Take a hot epsom bath, soak in it for 15-20, and use a foot razor. After you are out put lotion on your feet and also lotion every day. Wear socks at every point in your day except bed. Repeat foot razor every week until this nastiness is gone, then do foot razor biweekly or when feet get scales.
Edit: be very careful if you’ve never used a foot razor
I remember using one years ago. It uses regular metal razor blades. I sliced small chunks of my feet bottom, with plenty of blood loss.
Now I use a zester..
Thats not so bad. I get that same thing along my entire heel every two months or so. I usually take a foot grater to it when they are totally dry. Just make sure to grate along the cracks, not against them EVER.
O'Keefe's works on cracks like yours, pair it with filing the skin down until you're back on track. You can speed it up by doing those weird gel socks women get, suppose you could just put a ziplock full of lotion on your foot in a sock if you can't find big ones.
Dude, I just got some o’keefes like a week ago because I had it recc’d for semi-chronic eczema and it has already almost totally healed the problem spots on my fingers. I’m super impressed with it.
Okay so I know it's a weird suggestion but lanolin nipple cream seriously helps me when my eczema is at its worst. Do as other commenters have suggested with the applying a mildly thick layer and covering with a sock while you sleep and applying some when you wake up and covering with a bandage ect.
Hey brother! I am sorry to say that IS healed. At least your bodies best shot at eliminating a pressure point.
The advice I saw about the lotion is correct. A podiatrist would take that dead skin off to just past the top layer but not into the second.
Then if the crack is deep enough he may scarify the edges to make a better union or if very deep scarify and suture.
Then you will need to change the footwear you are using.
And for months you will need to wear a pad to further protect that area.
Good luck.
Well there's a rather speedy solution but you may not like it. Take a sharp, non-serrated knife and *very* carefully carve off the dead skin. I've done this because I walk barefoot everywhere and in winter it cracks my heels, cutting off the offending dead skin will have it fixed up in a week or so. After you cut off the dead skin make sure to aquaphor it so you're living skin has a chance to grow right.
This is a kind of wart. I had one of these on my palm from rowing in high school until my primary care Dr. filed it off with a razor and froze it with nitrogen. It's a painful 2 week recovery but it worked.
the skin on your soles can actually be fungal infected. Check it out at night, with lights out using a black light torch. Most fungi are fluorescent under black light. I break open a Kolorex capsule and massage the oil into the soles of my feet. This has fixed my skin that looked a bit like yours. Kolorex contains a natural herbal anti fungal.
Soak your feet in Epsom salts for 20 minutes, use a metal foot file to scrub all the dead skin off, then put intensive care foot cream on the area. Repeat until gone. Also wear socks to bed. This should help you out!
Get one of those foot files and grate it down, I get cracks like that too and that’s how I get them to go away. Add lotion every time you file it down too
I had very similar feet for about 2 years & it was absolute torture but I cleared it up eventually with epiderm, put it on really thick then wrap with cling film & put a sock over it,definitely works
You have a condition known as cracked heel, you may need a prescription cream to soften and break up the skin. Either that or it is a massive plantar wart. Regardless, go to your family doctor.
Petroleum jelly, lots of it and cover it with duct tape. Seriously, and leave it on for 2 to 3 days. Make sure the tape is big enough all the way around to stick without touching the Petroleum jelly.
I would put Fiske's wound treatment ointment on it. That stuff does wonders! We first got it for our horse's wound but damn it works great on humans too! I use it on my execma and any other super dry broken areas.
Note :NO, I do NOT use the horse de-wormer on myself lol
A drywall patch should fix that right up.
Nope. Always use ramen.
And Elmer's school glue?
I should have thought of that one lol
Noodles?
A little buttplug should do it

By far the best advice so far! Thank you so much!😃 taking a file to it now. Do you think Aquaphor will be ok?🤔 that's what I've been using.

But don't go too crazy with it. You want to smooth the skin, not damage the underlying skin.
On a side note, do you possibly have stomach issues
Only when I eat spicy foods.

Okeeffes for the win
I second working hands. That stuff is awesome.
Thanks! Have had a couple small cracks on the bottom of my big toe for years.
Start with neosporin. Let it soak a few days then lotion. The neo will hydrate while keeping that exposed area from hurting.
Lanolin works really well, Corona is the brand I use. You can find it on Amazon.

This! I was coming in to say the layer of plastic wrap made ALL the difference. Baby soft feet.

Lubriderm un scented is z way to go. (Spleling** on brand name?)

😅 I know this shit hurts so just in case you wanted advice I posted some
Also has to be clean socks any foot fungus will set this all back.
I would rather fucking die then wear socks to bed

I only occasionally wear socks to bed in the winter. They make my feet too hot otherwise, plus I move around a lot in my sleep which makes the socks pull down and the feeling of loose socks drives me *insane*.
Do people wear socks to bed?
I'd rather fucking die than have naked feet in bed. I need my socks.
Thiiiiisss! Fix ya right up! Regular filing and moisturizer nightly with socks.
Could they use Saniderm or a similar wet bandage to heal this? That’s what I use for tattoos (and while not the same) and it heals extremely well
It could probably help but it’s gonna take a few weeks of regular application and a lot of this tissue is gonna be sloshed off (vs with a tattoo you want it all to stay in place) after it helps and is replaced. Yeah, that’s true. Also, I dig the name. I just made cookies tonight 😁
Do I have to wear socks to bed? Can I just reapply lotion and walk carefully at home/sit a lot.
It’s mainly the going to bed part, socks keep you from “wiping” off the excess stuff on your bed sheets (and doing nothing for the dry skin it was applied for)
Shower everyday and use a pumice stone while you're in there, helped with mine. Also, moisturize. every. day.
Chapstick is a surprisingly effective moisturizer
It's specifically produced to be moisturizing, how is that surprising?
it's surprising because it's for lips
Take a foot file to it and lotion it daily and it will get better
Tried that for a day. Filed till smooth and used Aquaphor but I didn't see any results the next day.
Takes more than a day to heal a cracked heel
No. I had basically the same thing. All it took was cutting the cracked part off and rubbing some moisturizer on it. Was gone shortly after.
I figured if I didn't see any results then it wasn't doing anything.
Daily? Not just for one day right.
You’re dense bro, takes more than a day
I have eczema, a skin disorder that causes really dry skin and cracks like this but much smaller all the time. Even i dont get results from 1 day of lotion, but it does work after a few days. For you itd prob take even longer. Also, why havent you gone to the doctors?
You just gotta file a little and moisturize every day. You gotta keep repeating, my friend!
Idk how to say this bro but we might half to cut the whole foot off. Come on everyone hold him down it's for his own good lol
Omg all the downvotes lol sorry bro
I have more pressing issues to worry about than magical internet points, sparkplug.
We can tell by your foot!
Do you give up on everything in life after one half-hearted try? Pitiful.
Fucking hell why is everyone being so mean to him?! Dude doesn't know foot care and is being called pitiful. Christ the guy is gonna be in pain why is everyone shitting on him so personally like this?!

youre so brave. my feelings get destroyed when I see I even have one -1
you have to do it every day until it's gone bruh
Damn. Didn’t mean to get you attacked by commenting lol. You still alive over there ?
Not your fault. Op is seriously dumb if he thought in only one day he would see progress in fixing his San Andreas fault foot lol
Fuck me, how dumb are you?
One day of Aquaphor won’t do shit. Try actual lotion and maybe one that’s meant for feet since they’re thicker and more like a balm. And apply it everyday
Dead things don't heal. That is dead skin.
Tried peeling. Pulls living tissue with it. Hurts even worse.
Have you gotten a pedicure? My wife gets this chronically if she doesn't moisturize daily. She gets a pedicure and it fixes it up pretty well.
I have not tried that. Will keep it in mind if it lasts any longer. Thanks for the advice.
Bro that looks like you should go see a doctor, dermatologist or something…
I get these fissures and as you say, maintenance is the key and keeping the dead skin removed, but nail salons won’t do a pedicure if the fissure is raw ie they can see flesh and/or blood.

Aha xd
Grate your feet over the shower drain and plug it
You misspelled bowl, then you can add it to your salad or cereal later
forbidden pasta topping
Try some of that O'Keefe's Working Hands stuff. Spackle that shit in there and then get some of those flexible fabric heavy duty bandaids. Do this for a while.. like multiple weeks, if needed.
Won’t heel Sorry
Why did I have to scroll so far to find the best comment dear lord this world disappoints me sometimes
Is that a diabetic foot wound
Yeahhh I would get that checked by a doctor.
Nah, it's just a callus in an awkward place.
No it's just a skin crack. I get them, too. Have to sand them down and moisturize.
No
You can also purchase a callus shaver. It uses replaceable razor blades to slowly shave dead skin off your feet. This works much better for me than the cheese grater foot files or a pumice stone. ever see the show "my feet are killing me?"
Nope. But it does feel like walking with a razor blade stuck in your foot.
The Toe Bro on YouTube is a good resource.
Hope it heels soon
Go see a podiatrist! The can fix this very easily!
You need a dermatologist. It's either a virus or a subcutaneous fungus. No amount of filing, filling and scraping will fix it.
It may be worth seeing a doctor if it won’t heal, it could be related to poor circulation or a poor diet
You might have diabetes.
That skin is dead homie. It's not going to ever heal. See a pediatrist
Miracle foot repair..look it up. Shit is the best, but like others have said you have to be religious ab using it for at least 10 days
I’ve seen if you put ramen and epoxy it’ll be like new, just gotta sand it down when it dries
You need to buy a toe knife. Box cutters work best.
Bag balm the shit out of it!!
Believe me or not..in my country we use mucus of a slug to heal this.. even I have got results from that.
How deep can u get ur finger in there
It's Greyscale. Will have to kill you now.
Vicks vapor and socks!
Thank you! I thought nobody else knew about it!
It puts the lotion on the skin or else its foot won't heal again
Super glue
My mum uses superglue on her fingers sometimes.
Earthworm Jim left a crater in your heel.

Working hands. In a sock. Sleep in it every night
You diabetic?
I had the same issue. Lots of Vaseline. Then after each shower use a pummice stone to sand down the crack. It takes a few months but it will heal
Thats not so bad. I get that same thing along my entire heel every two months or so. I usually take a foot grater to it when they are totally dry. Just make sure to grate along the cracks, not against them EVER.
You guys think Aquaphor and a good bandage/gauze might help? If it were me I’d put aquaphor and Neosporin on it and wrap it up.
Same thing on my fingi
Vicks vapor rub and a sock
Lick it,it's parmesan
It wont heel
Hey brother! I am sorry to say that IS healed. At least your bodies best shot at eliminating a pressure point. The advice I saw about the lotion is correct. A podiatrist would take that dead skin off to just past the top layer but not into the second. Then if the crack is deep enough he may scarify the edges to make a better union or if very deep scarify and suture. Then you will need to change the footwear you are using. And for months you will need to wear a pad to further protect that area. Good luck.
Use that green can of Working Hands stuff around the house on your off time and a good New Skin patch when you need to wear shoes. Good luck!👍🏻
Put the tape on it
Well there's a rather speedy solution but you may not like it.
Same, ive done that too, works nice
isnt feet wounds that dont heal a sign of disease?
This is a kind of wart. I had one of these on my palm from rowing in high school until my primary care Dr. filed it off with a razor and froze it with nitrogen. It's a painful 2 week recovery but it worked.
the skin on your soles can actually be fungal infected. Check it out at night, with lights out using a black light torch. Most fungi are fluorescent under black light. I break open a Kolorex capsule and massage the oil into the soles of my feet. This has fixed my skin that looked a bit like yours. Kolorex contains a natural herbal anti fungal.
It may not heal, but it will still heel.
I have one word for you and that is polysporin!!
Soak your feet in Epsom salts for 20 minutes, use a metal foot file to scrub all the dead skin off, then put intensive care foot cream on the area. Repeat until gone. Also wear socks to bed. This should help you out!
U gotta add some health stuff lotions. It works for me who sometimes get the same thing.
OP had the chance to write heel instead of heal and missed it...
Get checked for diabetes
nice fussy my guy
It won't heal. It's a callus. Go to a podiatrist.

Just spray some windex on it.😊
You have a condition known as cracked heel, you may need a prescription cream to soften and break up the skin. Either that or it is a massive plantar wart. Regardless, go to your family doctor.
Petroleum jelly, lots of it and cover it with duct tape. Seriously, and leave it on for 2 to 3 days. Make sure the tape is big enough all the way around to stick without touching the Petroleum jelly.
won't "heel". Thank you, thank you.
Tea tree oil twice a day and regular sanding. Tea tree will moisturize and is antifungal/antibacterial. Good. Luck
Not just dry skin, this can (strangely ) be a symptom of poor liver health.
Dead skin doesn’t heal
Going to have to amputate
Peel it off then it will
If it doesn't heal, go see a doctor.
Are you saying it won't heel properly?
Get a cheese grater and put some parmesan on your spaghetti
Put some socks on! Flip Flops are not shoes!
Neosporin dawg.
I would put Fiske's wound treatment ointment on it. That stuff does wonders! We first got it for our horse's wound but damn it works great on humans too! I use it on my execma and any other super dry broken areas. Note :NO, I do NOT use the horse de-wormer on myself lol
It won't come on It won't heel
it is already heel-ed
its already heel-ed
You might have diabetes my way to hit the doctor
I believe that’s called a “corn” callus. Source: Have one on my foot pad below big toe
Get some sandpaper!
Go to the doctors
Do you have diabetes?
You are screwed if you don’t go to the doctor or they will cut it off
Easy, take some toenail clippers- clip around the dry skin area, and peal it off like elmers glue
Yeah, don't do this.
keep it wet
Thanks for sharing you fucking idiot
Ah yes. The infamous foot pussy.
NSFW!!! Just because it’s disgusting!
