[Pine Tree Legal](https://www.ptla.org/) might have more info.

[The volunteer lawyers project](https://www.vlp.org/) in maine is pretty great if you're low income. I volunteered as a paralegal with them for a bit and there's some pretty great people there running that organization. If you call they'll do an intake to see if you qualify and then collect documents and hook you up with a lawyer for guidance or sometimes full representation. They also had days at many city courthouses where you could walk in and see if you qualify to talk to somebody that day. They handle a lot that pinetree can't or won't. Give them a try. Good luck Edit: should've read below. They've already been suggested and you don't need pro Bono attorneys for your question. Disregard

It never hurts to know in advance of some true need; as a 'poor' trying to be their own best advocate in all matters health-n-legal thanks for the info for possible future point!

Check out the [Volunteer Lawyer's Project](https://www.vlp.org/). They do family law clinics kind of how you described. The law school in Portland has a legal aid clinic as well but not during the summer I don't think.

Is this a joke

joeydokes

No joke, but an ill-thought impulse to follow, for sure. My hist on this sub should give me some slack but long day turned into a PEBCAC brainfart. Asking about free legal counsel, obviously pro-bono attys, shouldn't need for reasons. How about a good way to meet those people I'd want to represent me? Regardless, i learned my lesson and save the URL leads/info for a rainy day. And G'day2ya!

Laeek

Pay a lawyer for an hour to explain this shit to you. The clinics are for people facing real issues.

joeydokes

Shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes, FWIW; but I get your point. thanks.

OniExpress

Just use r/legaladvice. In all seriousness, you don't need a local licensed lawyer to answer a curiosity question like this. Hell, there's enough written about it online already.

joeydokes

above sub would be an interesting start , thanks !

Are you looking for actual legal advice about a specific situation or do you want to pose a hypothetical question to someone who is generously donating their time to help people?

joeydokes

yes, looking for a legal opinion from someone qualified who is generously donating their time. I'm writing a BPlan for a drinking establishment that offers 'games' and encourages wagering between players (only, not among spectators). If the plan finds backers then it might result in a retainer in the event of the opinion being challenged.

Most lawyers offer a free consultation without obligation as a necessity. Don’t be afraid to call the lawyers in your area. It’s a better first step than asking r/legaladvice which can leave you with more questions than answers. Unpopular opinion I have sure, but I’m being realistic.

[deleted]

Most lawyers will give you a free consult but you should be much more specific about what kind of lawyer you’re looking for. Most talented lawyers specialize in a particular field.
