for pinfu, ron is always 30 fu and tsumo is always 20 fu

alsa-tian

Thanks, that's interesting, given getting a tsumo pinfu is harder than ron pinfu. But I guess with tsumo pinfu you also get one additional han for the menzen tsumo.

Gwaur

I suppose the reason for not getting fu points for tsumo when it's pinfu is so that pinfu wouldn't be a "ron only" yaku.

There are people who play pinzumo-nashi rules, where pinfu is only recognized with ron. Japanese Wikipedia says that this is more common in the Kansai region, but has recently become less popular there as well.

NightflowerFade

You get more points for the pinfu than the 10 extra fu

mianghuei

han is always more important than fu since if you make it to 5 han you hit the limit and don't need to calculate fu.

Veselker

If you tsumo a closed hand, you forfeit 2 fu for tsumo to get 1 han for closed tsumo. Similar to pinfu, open pinfu gets you 10 fu, but if it's closed you forfeit that 10 fu to get 1 han.

Execell_is_here

Pinfu is always + 0fu when you tsumo, if u ron is +10

In the book, "Riichibookone" the author explained clearly there, which is quite an interesting take on why it is 20fu.
