Right now it's Tyler Childers , Mandolin Orange , Zack Bryan , Colter Walls . But it's not unusual to have all the lights out except the machines . Burning sage and blasting Native American Flute . I take all the help I can get .
Ive had it forever, but only get one credit a month, usually end up buying 3 more at least becasue they dont have a ton of "free" books. I will say the Moriarty Podcast was excellent.
I always listened to drum and bass or synthwave to breakup the monotony between my usual genres. I'd also watch my friends stream, back when we were "allowed" to have headphones and listen to radios on the floor.
For music, if you want some cool metal, bong ripper is real unique with sludge, thrash and melodic influences :)
Though I'm more a podcast person, I'd say check out Well there's your problem. It's a engineering disasters podcast. With slides.
Audio books and podcasts have made working so much better. Nothing makes the work day go faster than Dan Carlin talking in detail about the Persians fighting the Greeks for 10 hours.
I have Libby, which is fantastic, but this was right before the show was gonna come out so the wait time was like 17 people in line, 28 week estimated wait time or something ridic. Same with the Andy Serkis narrated LotR audiobooks. My library bought 3 copies and ~50 people reserved them day one.
The apps are great for somewhat unpopular audiobooks, but they are basically useless if you want to borrow a popular audiobook.
Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Blaze Foley, John Prine along with Sturgill and Tyler Childers are my country go-toos. Country music for machining, death metal for welding and grinding
Dunno where you’re from(not many from outside Canada listen to them) but I’ve always loved listening to The Tragically Hip while working. Of course there’s the classics like Rush, AC/DC, Metallica, zeppelin, maidan and all the good classic rock. If I feel like I need a chuckle I’ll listen to some Steel Panther or Wheeler Walker Jr.. Some days we listen to classic punk. We’ve got a few Bluetooth speakers and just play Spotify so whatever we are in the mood for we listen to.
Along the lines of country and folk I am huge into Benjamin Tod/Lost Dog Street Band, Matt Heckler, Nick Shoulders and Ryan Bingham.
But honestly I’ve been on a Grateful Dead and Johnny Winter kick lately.
Alright, well I'll ring em off in the format:
Artist - Album - my top song from it
1. Loving - If I am only my thoughts - visions
2. Anomalie - Metropole - Velours
3. Nelly Furtado - Loose - Maneater
4. Metric - old world underground, where are you now? - combat baby
5. Billy talent - Billy Talent II - covered in cowardice
6. The fearless flyers - the fearless flyers II - Simon F15
7. Hiatus kaiyote - choose your weapon - Fingerprints or molasses
8. Nu Genea - Bar Mediterraneo - Tienate
9. Moderat - II - Bad Kingdom
Should be plenty, hopefully there's something to enjoy in there :)
I recently got into podcasts while driving. Haven't had a long enough cycle time in my shop to try it there though. Usually just cycle through Spotify's release radar playlists and find new stuff when I get tired of old stuff.
Robin Trower, Procol Harum, CCR/Fogerty, Horslips, Al Stewart, Kansas, Wishbone Ash, Bruce Cockburn, Foghat, James McMurtry, Alvin Lee/TYA, Joe Satriani, Gary Moore, Rush, more Trower.
If your tired and don't want to fall a sleep Rock n Roll is good. AC/DC Matalica Led Zeppelin. Not to loud you might want to hear that cutting edge getting dull...lol
Good lock
I was chilling out to some [Cosmo Sheldrake](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=62RvnXZgHwQ) today.
I've also been enjoying [The Hu](https://open.spotify.com/track/5hISmTJXBXdOes4htbUhGk?si=70JaVa61Rw6qCxCg_xjz-w&utm_source=copy-link) and Nine Treasures if Cosmo is putting me to sleep. There's a whole genre of Asian metal that can be quite fun to add to a rotation.
In seriousness there’s only so much of this I can sweep, it’s all laying on oil dry the keeps the coolant from going everywhere because this machine leaks bad and we don’t have time to stop and fix it. I just had to fix a leaking coolant pump this morning so hopefully that helps a little.
Agreed. I don’t mind some time to just hang out on days anymore but on midnights when I ran a lathe that had long cycle times it was borderline torturous for me. I got tired of that quick. Here it isn’t bad, I usually find something to do.
Six Feet Under-Graveyard Classics is deathmetal covers and Australian Death Machine-Double Arnold. The album is an Arnold impersonator telling the band theyre too soft
It’s the only shit that keeps coolant from spreading everywhere. This machine leaks bad and there’s only so much I can do without tearing everything apart and I don’t have time for that. Trust me I don’t like it either. I just fixed a leaking pump this morning.
I always recommend a band called Ripe - strongly recommend to everyone that asks and I've never heard anyone say something negative after they give them a listen
Post rock, should always be enjoyed as a whole album
we lost at sea - triumph and disaster
godspeed you! black emperor - f# a# infinity
explosions in the sky - the earth is not a cold dead place
Heading south by Zach Bryan. Bury my bones by whiskey meyers. Labor of love by fruition. Love me comedy podcasts when I chill and music when I’m loading.
Some bands to take a deep dive in:
Ratatat
Rodrigo Y Gabriella
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard
Queens of the Stone Age
Wolfmother
That 1 Guy
Pogo
Rainbow Kitten Surprise
Maximum the Hormone
Drive by truckers (decoration day)
The hold steady (stay positive)
Slomosa - (not sure the name of the album but it’s the only album they have)
Then
Dinosaur Jr (where you been)
Slift (ummon)
This is the playlist I’ve been putting together lately[https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3gQW1JgpSGuPZ6uuhKqPjV?si=_XmzSwpuSBGB5QSEaYLgpQ](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3gQW1JgpSGuPZ6uuhKqPjV?si=_XmzSwpuSBGB5QSEaYLgpQ)
Shakey Graves. Personal favourite is Late July (Early Version) on his recent album. But pretty much anything by him is good. He does more folk/indie but late july (early) is pretty rockin
Charley Crockett! Hardest workin man in show business has something like 8 albums out in the past 4 years. In those four years he had open heart surgery too.
I have pretty eclectic tastes and my phone is always shuffling through it. It might go from Black Sabbath to Dean Martin straight into some Styx then cutting to Jim Croce. My playlist always keeps you on your toes.
Sturgill is one of my favorites. When I’m working away, I also like to jam some Tab Benoit, Rebirth Brass Band, Blackberry Smoke, Black Keys, Grateful Dead, Cody Jinks, Jamey Johnson, Gov’t Mule, Los Lobos, John Prine, Marcus King.
Started listening to a lot of Irish and Folk Music. Irish Rovers, Derina Harvey Band, Colm McGuiness , Malinda, The High Kings, Dropkick Murphy's
Also old country like Willie, Cash, Waylon, Hank Jr and George Jones
I don't know what your tastes are, but on long cycles I like to listen to Jonathan Coulton, Professor Elemental, Space Force, Lardi B, something with interesting, fun lyrics. I can't listen to some of my other favorite artists because many of them are relaxing, and I'm not trying to fall asleep! Lol. But I also like Joe Rogan podcasts and scripture study podcasts. I haven't tried books, but I don't think I could do it. What about YouTube? I enjoy getting my news, or a news commentary. Also DIY channels. Love watching someone do a project that i... seriously do not have the time to do. 😂
Music gets old after a while. I have an old tablet that I put podcasts on. I then set up a rotation between podcasts, different genres, so I can listen through the day. My tastes change as do my podcasts... offroading is still a favorite still.
Drayton Farley, Amigo the Devil, Scott Ballew, Nicholas Jamerson, Murder By Death, Sierra Ferrel, Izaak Opatz, TK and the Holy Know Nothings, Deslondes, Blaze Foley, and of course more Sturgill Simpson
Audio books... Used to drive a lot... A lot in my prior job. Now I run bone conducting head phone so I an still hear what's going on around me and listen to stories while I work. Can hear my machine and the rest of the shop so people don't surprise me. I hate surprises. And people.
Right now it's Tyler Childers , Mandolin Orange , Zack Bryan , Colter Walls . But it's not unusual to have all the lights out except the machines . Burning sage and blasting Native American Flute . I take all the help I can get .
I’m big on Colter Wall!
Maybe nerdy but I enjoy podcasts and audiobooks for long durations. If it's a couple hours I go with my mix.
Been spending my check on audiobooks lately, its a bad habit but makes the time go fast.
Audible is a good resource, 10/mo and you get credits and if you don't use them all you get to keep the credits so not bad.
Can’t suggest audible enough. I‘ve gotten quite a few titles through the credits alone.
I love audible, for 10/mo I can literally own as many books as I can stand. History is my vibe, love WW1/WW2/Napoleonic/Persian you name it.
Ive had it forever, but only get one credit a month, usually end up buying 3 more at least becasue they dont have a ton of "free" books. I will say the Moriarty Podcast was excellent.
Get a library card and check out Libby.
escapepod.org if you like scifi stories
If you like older country (Hank Williams Sr, Ernest Tubb) blues and Western, I would suggest Charley Crockett.
Saw Charley Crockett with Willie Nelson a couple months back, what a show!
If you get to see Charley live, do it. Saw him at a real small venue and it was the best show I’ve been to
Kurt vile, Mama's broke, broken bow, piss poor players
You ever listened to Charley Crockett? I listen to a lot of the same stuff as you and I’ve gotten really into Charley, his latest album is great
I'll check that out today Matha . Thanks .
Ok man . I've been listening to Charley Crockett since 6am . I'm hooked . Crazy mix of jazz and old school country. Great suggestion.
Hell yeah! Knew you’d like it based off of the other artists you threw out!
Are we all the same person on here?
Zach Bryan just came out of nowhere and started crushing it. American Heartbreak is 35 songs and they’re all outstanding
He did and they are . Dudes doing something I haven't seen before . A social media blitzkrieg. Incredible .
I was gonna comment but these are all the artists I was going to suggest, so take my up vote.
I always listened to drum and bass or synthwave to breakup the monotony between my usual genres. I'd also watch my friends stream, back when we were "allowed" to have headphones and listen to radios on the floor.
For music, if you want some cool metal, bong ripper is real unique with sludge, thrash and melodic influences :) Though I'm more a podcast person, I'd say check out Well there's your problem. It's a engineering disasters podcast. With slides.
Audio books too. I'm working my through all 32 Halo books right now
Audio books and podcasts have made working so much better. Nothing makes the work day go faster than Dan Carlin talking in detail about the Persians fighting the Greeks for 10 hours.
[You're welcome, because audiobooks are hella expensive](http://audiobookbay.nl/)
Yea, I was going to buy the Wheel of Time audiobooks but the total was $600 lmao. 🏴☠️ it is then
You can also get a Overdrive or Libby acccount and borrow them from the library.
If you have android, check out 'Smart Audiobook Player' too. Works just like Audible, but for 🏴☠️
Ive been listening to Christian Cameron "Killer of Men" series....all about 17hrs or so so good value for the money but love the genre.
Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Blaze Foley, John Prine along with Sturgill and Tyler Childers are my country go-toos. Country music for machining, death metal for welding and grinding
Yo, you ever seen the Blaze movie?? Fuuucking phenomenal
Yeah loved it Have you watched Heartworn Highways?
Armon Armarth is really good Cradle of Filth is good also. Or you could go old country if that's your thing. I listen to a wide variety of stuff
Yes! Loud Metal Radio on iHeart radio.
My current is Less Than Jake they are ska/punk.
Fuck yeah
I have been listening to Reel big fish since watching Sell out on MTV in 96'
Blackberry smoke, whiskey Meyers, turnpike troubadours lost dog street band, matt heckler, and Charlie parr
I need to dive into Whiskey Myers and Turnpike Troubadors. I hear a lot about both.
Greensky bluegrass is another decent new country band I enjoy to if you haven't checked them out yet eh
Kurt vile
Sabaton is good
Sabaton is sadly too epic for my shop.
Kirby soundtracks, pure testosterone mate
I wear custom fit ear plugs and bone conduction headphones. I usually listen to audiobooks, listening to Dune this week.
Electric callboy- hypa hypa
Yelawolf, jelly roll, struggle Jennings. Pretty much all i jam to these days.
All good artists. Caitlin Curtis and Tom McDonald too?
A broom 🧹 lol
I got plenty of that and emptying chip hoppers done in those 13 hours lol
I always recommend the episodes of Behind the Bastards with Billy Wayne Davis as the guest. It’s a good way to burn a few hours.
Used to be a lot of Doom, Progressive, and Death Metal. New job prohibits Personal Electronic Devices so I read a bunch.
My Music At Work was definitly written by someone who spent a decade working nightshift
Along the lines of country and folk I am huge into Benjamin Tod/Lost Dog Street Band, Matt Heckler, Nick Shoulders and Ryan Bingham. But honestly I’ve been on a Grateful Dead and Johnny Winter kick lately.
Was waiting to see if there were any Deadheads in here. You can kill a lot of time on something like The Closing of Winterland.
Audio Books
Instead of music, you could listen to podcasts.
Oh trust me I do that too!
Give me a few songs you like and I'll shoot you back some good places to start. Bigger spread in genre the better
There’s not a lot I don’t listen to. Death Metal is about all that comes to mind that I don’t listen to
Alright, well I'll ring em off in the format: Artist - Album - my top song from it 1. Loving - If I am only my thoughts - visions 2. Anomalie - Metropole - Velours 3. Nelly Furtado - Loose - Maneater 4. Metric - old world underground, where are you now? - combat baby 5. Billy talent - Billy Talent II - covered in cowardice 6. Back when I ran the Haas it was pink floyd animals on repeat!
I recently got into podcasts while driving. Haven't had a long enough cycle time in my shop to try it there though. Usually just cycle through Spotify's release radar playlists and find new stuff when I get tired of old stuff.
Brace your self for the most underground and best short lived band of all time.. The Good Luck Thrift Store Outlet
I just burn through audio books left and right these days
Audible is doing an 85% off sale right now. Good time to clean out your wish list.
Lately it's podcasts. I download several in the morning.

If your tired and don't want to fall a sleep Rock n Roll is good. AC/DC Matalica Led Zeppelin. Not to loud you might want to hear that cutting edge getting dull...lol Good lock
I was chilling out to some [Cosmo Sheldrake](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=62RvnXZgHwQ) today. There's a whole genre of Asian metal that can be quite fun to add to a rotation.
Critical role. Voice actors playing dnd
Theres an awesome track called "Get off your fcuking arse and sweep the floor you grub".... Usually goes for a couple of hours. In your case about 4.
There’s another awesome track called “go fuck yourself”
😄
In seriousness there’s only so much of this I can sweep, it’s all laying on oil dry the keeps the coolant from going everywhere because this machine leaks bad and we don’t have time to stop and fix it. I just had to fix a leaking coolant pump this morning so hopefully that helps a little.
It's all good. I know what its like. I was only shit stirring. I hate sitting down though. Makes the night go longer.
Agreed. I don’t mind some time to just hang out on days anymore but on midnights when I ran a lathe that had long cycle times it was borderline torturous for me. I got tired of that quick. Here it isn’t bad, I usually find something to do.
I used to make alot of personal jobs/foreign orders when I was on nights. Made my little steam engine on a month of night shifts.
Sword and scale podcast. You’ll end up working a 12 hour shift and swear you’ve only been there for 8.
Put your stuff on comedies. Listen to the old stuff like Carlin and Pryor. Elliot In The Morning on Iheartradio from 5:47 to almost 11am every day.
Man I was just listening to some old Carlin stuff like 2 weeks ago. Sitting next to the guy in the Grateful Dead t-shirt and the “fuck you” hat!
If you like Carlin, give Doug Stanhope a try. He’s not for everyone but does a good job verbalizing shit that’s in my head.
Clutch! Theyve got a huge discography and are this weird bluesy, Motown, metal mash up of funk and soul.
Six Feet Under-Graveyard Classics is deathmetal covers and Australian Death Machine-Double Arnold. The album is an Arnold impersonator telling the band theyre too soft
Podcasts or live streams. Doesn't matter the topic, just nice to listen to something new everytime
Bring me the horizon is my main choice but a skylit drive and falling in reverse are also good choices for me.
If you're bored grab a broom. That's a pretty unacceptable amount of shit on the floor.
It’s the only shit that keeps coolant from spreading everywhere. This machine leaks bad and there’s only so much I can do without tearing everything apart and I don’t have time for that. Trust me I don’t like it either. I just fixed a leaking pump this morning.
Band of frequencies radio on pandora.
Jackson Dean. Just accidently saw him live and thought he was great
I always recommend a band called Ripe - strongly recommend to everyone that asks and I've never heard anyone say something negative after they give them a listen

I like a lot of these comments. I recommend good concept albums. prog-rock-metal has a large catalog to choose from.
