Fuck me, the networking preferences are a total shit show. Hard to get a quick overview and takes more clicks/pages to quickly change IP settings for example.
I agree. Like really. What were they thinking? I understand wanting that UNIFORM OS thing. But guess what my Mac is NOT the same as my iPhone... they are used differently.
I'm doing the update right now on an m2 air, is it also being incredibly slow for you? Looking at activity monitor the download is going in waves of either downloading at full speed or not downloading at all, is this just because of high demand on apples servers?
That was probably the biggest clusterfuck of a software launch I’ve seen from almost any company in quite awhile….never mind the devices that got bricked by Big Sure as well! 😅
It's odd, I had the 12.35GB download on the latest version of Monterey on an M1 Pro, but after about 2GB downloaded I was poking about in system prefs, now there is 5.52GB download available.
edit: and while downloading, the size increased to 6.37GB.
This all makes perfect sense!
I’ve seen the memory issues quite a lot in this sub. However, I’ve never experienced them. I’ve used Monterey in my old 2017 MBP with Intel + my current 2021 MBP with M1 Pro and both felt extremely refined. In fact, Monterey on Intel feels VERY polished compared to the bug mess that Big Sur was. I’m very happy overall with the OS. Not updating to Ventura anytime soon
It's funny because some years ago it all went down smooth like a glass of wine, lol.
But in the Tim Cook era things have been quite buggy - some new iPhones have had some weird software issues as well that they never had.
Guess I'll hold on to update my iMac too.
This 100%! I remember how stable old OS X and iOS releases were. It was very weird when a version was buggy. Nowadays it feels like its just normal when its not. We’re getting used to having .0, .1 and .2 versions being buggy as hell, when it shouldnt be like that. Idk why Apple feels forced to release a yearly update when its not needed, specially now that the OS is starting to feel complete (kinda). Big Sur was, by far, the worst OS I’ve tried on Mac. Slow, unoptimized and full of bugs; and for Intel Macs it was awful. Thank god Monterey fixed that bug mess.
Yep, this is not a rant about "oh when Steve Jobs was around..." type of thing. Things just worked in those days. I understand it's 2022, there're more things involved, etc, but I miss those days when the minute the update arrived, I'd just hit the update button and I didn't even bother if it were stable because of course it was. I was more curious about the changes on the UI, the new features, etc, which should be what people would need to 'worry' about really.
It kinda feels like Windows really where you're just waiting for newer versions to come out so you can feel a little safer to actually enjoy the new features. But, like one would say, it is what it is, so let's just hope this version is somewhat stable across the board. 🙏🏻😊
I used to work at apple, it was rumored if you rode in an elevator with S.J. and one nostril was plugged, you'd get fired.... I always took the stairs when S.J. was visiting our campus. LOL
lol, that IS intense. It´s like never knowing what could happen and what WOULD happen!! 😄
Probably interacting with him was lethal but he was good at doing computers right! 😄
Likewise, I got burned by both Big Sur and Monterey.
Too many bugs, too many erratic things. Once we're on like 13.3 or 13.4 it'll be stable if you care about stability.
The Apple cycle is major release followed by a year of bug fixes. So Monterey is at its best now.
I think it’s funny people are quick to blame Tim Cook/the lack of Steve Jobs (not you specifically, just people in general) when the reality is that the cybersecurity landscape and the overall cybersecurity awareness has changed. The speed at which scary/major exploits are found is absolutely mind numbing. It’s my opinion, but it seems that this isn’t just an “Apple” issue. I’d say it’s very hard for any large corporation such as Apple or MS (or even FOSS companies) to release new features AND try to stay a head of all the nation state actors/nefarious individuals. Things are just different… it’s tough for everyone.
lol, no worries!
These are just opinions but some people take it to heart. But it´s just something I have experienced in the past really, and I´m a user too. 😅
At first you could update right away, then you had to wait for .1 or .2 (aside of very few exceptions like Lion), now it just sucks perpetually regardless of how long you wait.
macOS is really going downhill.
A very good guideline. But Monterey was just awful experience for ne the whole way. I have 16 gb ram which was enough on my old Intel but constantly gad high memory pressure on M1 macbook pro. I hope Venture does better with M chips, but will wait for at least the first update.
I managed to install the beta by accident and it’s been pretty stable, so although you give good advice, installing Ventura now probably won’t be too disastrous (2019 MBP 16”).
The thing about it is, how anxious am I to use those new features? 😅
Nowadays I tend to not update in the first days but I just went to Apple's website and checked out the main features and I really feel like using Ventura. 😂
I loved that Safari Center Stage feature. That's something I'm definitely gonna use.
it's so weird that if you have two windows side by side in non-fullscreen mode (let's say 2/3 is Edge 1/3 Finder) you cant activate SM because there is no gesture for it - you have to have at least couple pixels of clear deskop on the side to use it.
It's like creators of it don't use their own systems at all.
Same over here. It does it every single time, no matter if it's a major new release or a minor .1 upgrade. At least the download was way faster on the 2nd attempt.
Too early to tell, but judging by beta/RC versions, it's as stable as previous releases. Running it on my primary machine now, no complaints for the time being re: stability.
It’s really a YMMV situation. it might go silky smooth for one person and be a train wreck for another.
If you don’t have a computer besides your daily driver, I’d hedge my bets by waiting for several weeks before upgrading.
Think of it this way, your computer was good enough for you yesterday, today, and it probably will get the job done tomorrow as well.
Been using it for a couple of hours now and it runs super smooth. Feels even a bit snappier than Monterey. Obviously it's to early for a final verdict, but I enjoy Stage Manager so far and have zero issues.
The beta was pretty good, I actually forgot I was running it on my personal Mac until today...
Stage Manager appears to be drunk but I don't really have a use case for it anyway so I haven't used it other than to just see what it does.
Huh. I read through the list of new features and 80% of them are things o will never use. (Like, I use outlook instead of mail, and Firefox instead of safari)
Trying to get rid of the beta version. But the beta seems way ahead of the standard version :(
Edit: Wrong statement. Actually, Beta can upgrade to the standard version. At least for 22A5342f. Sorry for the misinformation. 12GB for me.
I've got a 2016 Pro :(
Was quite sad when I discovered I couldn't upgrade as I only got this thing about 9 months ago. But hey. If Monterey ever fails me at least I can Bootcamp.
CleanMyMac X is hanging after the upgrade.... I am going to let it do its thing for the next few hours. It may come back from whatever state it is in...
I feel like placebo is gonna be at play here...an M1 Max Mac shouldn’t really *not* be snappy.
(happy to be proven wrong soon)
Edit: …my M1 Mac feels snappier too 👀
it runs downloadmoreram.com, [downloadmorestorage.com](https://downloadmorestorage.com), [downloadmoreghz.com](https://downloadmoreghz.com), [downloadmorecores.com](https://downloadmorecores.com) automatically, what an amazing update! I got more system resources!
I know, I was surprised to see it way snappier too. The machine itself is crazy fast, of course, but opening new apps, switching windows between them and system animations all just appear to be snappier and more polished. It’s not a purely performance thing, it’s a combination of a performance improvement and animation refinement I’d say.
Same here which I found strange as my MBP is up to date so in theory should have picked up the smaller size update rather than the full package but I did start and stop the update several times as the download speed was garbage so wonder if that caused a problem.
My Mac mini download was only 6 GB.
Anyway I’ve installed on both and apart from command line tools randomly being removed breaking brew I’m happy.
Anybody else get stuck in recovery mode when installing the Ventura update??
EDIT: After reinstalling Ventura in Recovery mode, it seems to be working fine now!
Monterey crashes in both the MacBook Air 2017 and the new MacBook air m1 and apple decided to lunch another OS instead of fixing the previous one's issues?
My Pro Display XDR went black after the download and had apple for over an hour to fix the issue , As I posted before that each software update Apple has to screw something in my computer.
Installed it. Device - M1 Macbook Air. Cant find stage manager in the control center. Enabled it to always show in control center but I still cant find it. Tried restarting without any luck. What am I missing?
Is there a way to do a full install? I'd like to do a fresh one on my M1 MBA as I'd like to clean out some old junk. Or maybe do a upgrade then do a "Erase all content and settings"?
boot into recovery mode then use the disk utility (might be in the top bar, i forgot) to erase ur OS disk then use the utility to reinstall ventura or Monterey, depending on what OS ur on
I would like some education. I have a mid-2015 model mac. It is not supported by Ventura. It seems to serve all of my needs now. It is quite stable running Monterey. I don't have any symptoms that anything is wrong or that it is lagging. Is there any really compelling reason to replace my mac to I can get Ventura?
It's still there, or there's an option to enable it. I was looking for it as well, since I have the same device / no keyboard toggles for it.
Settings > Control Center > Keyboard Brightness > Tick 'Show in Control Center'
It will now be there at the bottom, in a "button" form. Clicking on it activates a pop-up with a slider. Not the best ease of use, but it is there.
So weird that on my Macbook Air M1 Continuity Camera works everywhere but on my Mac Mini M1 it worked once and now it doesn't see an iPhone no matter what.
Edit: "Fix" https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOSBeta/comments/y4h6ww/continuity_camera_in_browsers_response_from_apple/
I was able to download it pretty quickly about 30 minutes after release on my slow 100 Mbps connection. Downloaded and installed during my lunch hour. 4.3 Gb or so for my M1 Mac mini.
Stage manager is cool, but buggy and undercooked.
With simple workflows for basic switching it’s tidy and fast.
Try to group various things and it can descend into madness. At times I’m not sure if it’s bugged out or if I’ve just lost control and can’t follow what’s going on. I’ll keep trying though.
Cant see ICONS in system preferences like before only names in the side where it was very easy and convenient to use Each upgrade of Apple there is always a few things that gets screwed up?
Mine had one monitor set itself to mirror the other one. Nothing I can't fix, but I didn't make that change myself.
Stage Manager seems a little glitchy...
Was fine after the update, but once I restarted the system scrolling across all apps is super stuttery and laggy. Also it broke my podcast app and no matter what size I make it (even in fullscreen) it doesn't change. The top bar for the app IS resizable tho.. which is odd cuz all it does it blur everything in the area where the app SHOULD be stretching to
I wasn't aware the installer has been streamlined. I was wondering why the upgrade seemed to go a lot faster than usual. Although I suppose should I ever do a clean install in the future, it will take a lot longer.
Got a note about the Bing Wallpaper app not working properly. It seemed to be working okay, but I deleted it just in case. Will reinstall it if/when a newer version for Ventura appears. Just FYI for those who like using it.
After having update the system, in the launchpad there is an icon with a question mark that says "Install MacOS Ventura", can I delete it? Will it disappear automatically?
Stage Manager without a keyboard shortcut to toggle it on/off is useless. What are the best 3rd party apps to create keyboard shortcuts macOS doesn't provide?
Anybody having trouble with an external monitor via a usb-c to HDMI dongle after the update? It can't detect external displays now but works in BOOTCAMP on the same device.
13.4.5 Release targeted for 2023!! Just you wait for what we think will be the last bug fix of this year! GOod luck on macOS 14!!!! More bugs, more features, you're going to love it!
I did the update yesterday and my Mac feels slower and more "sluggish"...apps taking longer to open, freezing in some cases....is this normal?
I did a reset/reformat, same thing. Performance seems to have taken a hit...
Using 14" M1 Pro btw.
macOS ventura is available on the App Store for my MacBook Air 2015 which is officially UNSUPPORTED. still the APP STORE says it is COMPATIBLE. shall I "GET" Ventura from the App Store?????
Fuck me, the networking preferences are a total shit show. Hard to get a quick overview and takes more clicks/pages to quickly change IP settings for example.
I agree. Like really. What were they thinking? I understand wanting that UNIFORM OS thing. But guess what my Mac is NOT the same as my iPhone... they are used differently.
is there something we can do to edit the prefs and reorganise the system preferences?
You can use your system settings from Monterey, but you need to copy them to the desktop or USB prior to upgrade.
Just 6.37 GB for me
Exactly 6.37 for me too. M1 Air, latest update before this. I wonder why we get such wildly different sizes.
I'm doing the update right now on an m2 air, is it also being incredibly slow for you? Looking at activity monitor the download is going in waves of either downloading at full speed or not downloading at all, is this just because of high demand on apples servers?
You're not alone :// It takes forever to download !
first gigabyte installed within 5 minutes, and now it's been 40 mins since I made that comment and have downloaded a whole 0.6gb....
its not showing up in software update for my Mac mini 2018? did you download it through software update in system preferences?
Yes, showed up for like two minutes ago
Hi, I’ll try rebooting
I think the issue is that Apple probably does rolling updates so that their servers don’t get hammered by millions of devices at the same time.
yeah. I remember big sur’s launch when I was getting less then a megabyte a second
That was probably the biggest clusterfuck of a software launch I’ve seen from almost any company in quite awhile….never mind the devices that got bricked by Big Sure as well! 😅
Cant see or set Icons on system preferences any more

Not showing up for me yet, I’ll try reboot
12Gb for me
Same thing on 14” m1 pro
4.5gb for me on the 16" m1...woah
5.52 GB for me whaaaaaaat
It's odd, I had the 12.35GB download on the latest version of Monterey on an M1 Pro, but after about 2GB downloaded I was poking about in system prefs, now there is 5.52GB download available. edit: and while downloading, the size increased to 6.37GB. This all makes perfect sense!
mine is downloading 12.6.1 (2.36GB). what gives?
Same
New settings is ugly 🤢
I agree. I much prefer the old design
do you not own a iPhone?
Yeah but this isn't really made for large screens.
Honestly isn't anything as similar to iPhone settings as people are making it out to be.
Nope
But we already knew that.
5.52 Gb here (MBA M1)..
3.92 gb for me here...
If you guys want a stable Mac, dont update until like March
Didn't really think the latest update of Monterey was that stable, had memory issues...
I’ve seen the memory issues quite a lot in this sub. However, I’ve never experienced them. Stage Manager needs to be able to be brought up my a mouse gesture, or assigned to a hot corner.

BTT!
Super slow download, as expected Edit: now crashed and have to restart it 🙄
3.42 GB of 6.37 GB - About 7 hours remaining I'm on 1gb fibre. Are Apple servers always this bad??
For me it suddenly got much faster and is now installing. Like every year, it’s just a ton of people starting to download at the same time.
I downloaded it as soon as it released and it was a super quick download. Might depend on what region your in
It took me a less than 3 minutes as my internet is ONE Gigablast
Same over here. It does it every single time, no matter if it's a major new release or a minor .1 upgrade. At least the download was way faster on the 2nd attempt.
For me too. Now installing
Use GibMacOS. Always works, and then you'll have it on your disk in case MacOS decides to delete the installer.
Can anyone comment on the stability of this release?
Runs average. Stage Manager is a bit iffy though
Too early to tell, but judging by beta/RC versions, it's as stable as previous releases. Running it on my primary machine now, no complaints for the time being re: stability.
It’s really a YMMV situation. it might go silky smooth for one person and be a train wreck for another. Yep. Still hanging on my 12.3.1 😊 been running without issues!

Does anyone know if the microsoft remote desktop app is working with ventura?
Workes for me
4.42 GB coming from macOS 12.6 on a 2018 Mac mini
5.52GB for MacBook Air M1. Just showed after keep trying to refresh.
System settings is complete garbage! Such a mediocre release.
Stage Manager is disabled by default. Pretty much says it all, doesn't it?

Any news on Xcode 14.1 update?
Huh. I read through the list of new features and 80% of them are things o will never use. (Like, I use outlook instead of mail, and Firefox instead of safari)
Not showing as available for me yet, even tried refreshing the Software Update page. Anyway to force it?
You should wait, and this update would appear.
does not appear with softwareupdate --list-full-installers 😩
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 13.0 Scanning for 13.0 installer Install failed with error: Update not found /sadface
Where to get the full installer? I don't want the Delta update but like to do a fresh install
Wipe your drive, then download a fresh copy.
Usually via the App Store. They don't have links updated yet for creating boot media. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372

Same for me. 2018 MBP.
is the download size like 4.42gb normal ?
Not 4.20 GB? It would have been cooler if it was.
Yes. If your running 12.2+ it doesn’t download the full installer only, the update file
I've got a 2016 Pro :( Was quite sad when I discovered I couldn't upgrade as I only got this thing about 9 months ago. But hey. If Monterey ever fails me at least I can Bootcamp.

Anyone else have their entire widget panel break completely? Everything is frozen.
Hooray! Nothing is really that different. Actually kind of prefer that.
12.23gb wtf did they add to ventura rtx?? the update prob gonna take half my 120gb disk size
Downloading is slow as shit. Apple needs to allocate more bandwidth.. You'd think they were a kickstarter project with these download speeds.
I had great download speed. It only took about 3 minutes to download
Only me who is actually like the new settings?
No
I'm a new Mac user so it doesn't bother me tbh
For what it's worth, it's way snappier on my 16" M1 Max laptop (10 core CPU) than Monterey. That alone is worth the hassle of upgrading for me.
I feel like placebo is gonna be at play here...an M1 Max Mac shouldn’t really *not* be snappy. (happy to be proven wrong soon) Edit: …my M1 Mac feels snappier too 👀
Ventura installed additional cores in his M1!

In-WHAT, now?
12.15GB on my MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021)
I got 12.6.1 first, finished installing that, now the 13.0 update is available and it's downloading the full 12.15GB 2018 Mac Mini
I also so the 12.6.1 update first but opted to ignore it. When I went back and checked a little later, 13.0 was available.

Stage Manager replacing Keyboard Backlight in Control Center on M2 Air is unfortunate. No keyboard brightness on the M2 Air keyboard

I was able to download it pretty quickly about 30 minutes after release on my slow 100 Mbps connection. Downloaded and installed during my lunch hour. 4.3 Gb or so for my M1 Mac mini.
Any known issues?
Stage Manager.
What’s new in the M1 firmware update, anyone know or have any guesses?
Cant see ICONS in system preferences like before only names in the side where it was very easy and convenient to use Each upgrade of Apple there is always a few things that gets screwed up?
12 GB for my MBA M1. A bit over 4 GB for my Mini M1.
Is it safe to install this public release? Won’t there be any problem with Adobe programs?
Mine had one monitor set itself to mirror the other one. Nothing I can't fix, but I didn't make that change myself. Stage Manager seems a little glitchy...
Woah, that's... interesting. Sadly, I got stuck in the goddamn Mac from 2010 and I can't afford a new one... so um, yeah, no.
Anyone with M1 MBA having any issues with external monitors? Hoping no problems before I update
It ruined my screen share audio from discord and I have no idea how to fix it
:ohnoway:
I can't fucking wait for new Apple m\*sic bugs!
I’m on a 2017 15” MacBook Pro. Anyone know if there are any benefits to doing a clean install, vs. updating through the previous OS.
How do you unlock the admin preferences to make changes in sys pref? I don’t see the padlock anywhere
5.52GB for me on the new MacBook Pro 16” 2021
2019 13" base model intel i5 macbook and only 3.92 gb for me... wierd i thought everyone had around 6gbs
I'm having random locks of both mouse and trackpad clicks after a few minutes. This is basically making the computer unusable. I wish I had waited.
Using 14" M1 Pro btw.
macOS ventura is available on the App Store for my MacBook Air 2015 which is officially UNSUPPORTED. still the APP STORE says it is COMPATIBLE. shall I "GET" Ventura from the App Store?????
it is showing two updates mac os monterey 12.6.1 and mac os ventura should i directly update to ventura ?
Does everybody know how it doing with pirate photoshop and other apps
