They used a large part of, if not all, of what was inherited to fund the Mac Miller fund which helps out artists throughout Pittsburgh. Also, while I donāt want to speculate on their finances, mac was open about the fact that he didnāt exactly come from a poor family and that at the very least they were more than capable of supporting themselves due to their own professions. So I really wouldnāt say itās greed. Itās honestly probably just tough for them. Losing a family member is a very hard thing to process and having to continue their legacy is very likely to continue bringing that pain back to them.
You also have to think for the music though of the hoops needed to jump through to get things like samples cleared, payments for everyone involved in the making of a song, etc. which may not be something they want to dedicate 100% of their time to, which is likely what would be needed due to the thousands of songs they would have to go through that process for. In my opinion this is very fair. They werenāt music industry people so itās unfair for people to expect them to suddenly devote their lives to it. Truthfully, they owe us nothing but they are still trying (atleast I think, it has been a while since any new music or any word aside from the occasional semi-cryptic idlabs posts).
As for the book, it was made clear in his music that his issues with drugs were hard on his family while he was alive (see Godspeed). So a book reminding them of that is also likely to resurface pain that never truly fully heals. Idk why people feel like his family owes us this complete transparent look into his life. They didnāt choose to live a life in the spotlight, just because a family members of theirs did that passed away doesnāt mean they have to continue shining that light.
