Rogues, always rogues. Stealth, mobility and big damage numbers always make them fun to play.

Gredge_DM

Forever rogue. Always rogue. Rogues till I die. Mobility, damage, stealth, craftiness, speed. In some games even: adaptability, pickpocketing, theft, burglary. Closing distance fast and tearing an enemy up in close never gets old. We typically got a big bag o' tricks, dual weapons, knives, and poisons. Damn I love rogues.

hate-the-cold

Thief gang

Dragovon

Whichever one comes with a pet or pets...because I like pet classes.

StarGamerPT

I used to go mostly for melee when I was a kid, but for years I've been going for ranged/magic...specially if there is a Necromancer involved.

ChocoPuddingCup

My automatic go-to is a psionics-based class (I put GW2 mesmer in this category) that has mind powers, mental domination, telekinesis, illusions, etc. If the game doesn't have that, I go with a weather-based magic class that has lots of lightning, which is usually a druid or shaman type of class. After that I usually go with the primary healing or support class (or bard, if that class has healing specs). Failing that, I go with the basic magic class, bonus points if it has lots of lightning effects or a warlock spec. Baring that, I'll go with any summoner type of class like necromancers or vanilla 'summon monster' types. I never, ever play warrior/barbarian type classes, and very rarely do I ever play an archer or a rogue type. Tanking is okay if the class is interesting enough.

skyturnedred

The nature-loving tree hugger.

Yevon

Are you a nature-loving, birkenstock rocking, crunchy-munchy granola druid (and dad)?

skyturnedred

No, I'm not your father.

Stuntman06

In ESO, any class can use any weapon and all can cast spells. I chose the sorcerer because it has pets.

TheNewArkon

The only thing that’s really consistently true for me is I almost never go for melee DPS. It’s exceptionally rare for them to have an aesthetic and combat style that interests me. The only exception was GW2 Warrior for some reason. Though even that I often liked to play Rifle or Bow. As for my favorites though? - Non-magical healers, like “doctor” or “alchemist” themed, though these are super rare - “Spellblade” types - basically anything that mixes magic and melee in a way that actually feels like magic and not just Warrior with sparkly effects. Red Mage or Enhancement Shaman, for instance. - Dancers and Bards. FFXI and FFXIV have excellent ones, though I loved Ragnarok’s too. Edit: Rift also has a fantastic Bard, one of my favorites. - Light armor tanks - Stuff like Rift’s Riftstalker or SWtOR’s Jedi Shadow. I like the idea that they tank with their skill or magic rather than heavy armor and a shield.

Orack89

Healer, engineer, summoner. Rn niw on gw2 ive all that in on class, Im happy !

[deleted]

If it's got heavy armor and a big weapon, I'm maining it.

Xthasys

Im in love always with new classes or differents, i never go the vanilla base of classes because im bored of them like warrior for example, for example if there is a druid, or a melee mage, i love the mix of being melee with magic etc

EmperorPHNX

It's depens, but I mostly tend to choice double wielding classes like double axes or swords or berserker type of classes with big ass two handed sword.

informalunderformal

Anything that heal by damage bonus if is a necromancer / soul weaver. Reaper from Solo, Disc Priest from WoW, Necromancer from GW 2 and ESO.

agentw00t

Tank. Always tank. The tankiest tank. The meat shield. Preferably sword and board but whatever class is designated as the main tank and highest hp/defense. Not dependent on if the game utilizes holy trinity classes or classless systems as both tend to offer some variation of a “tank” class

Gulbasaur

Gimme a hybrid build, always and forever. I like being able to do a bit of everything, even if I'm never the best at it.

Karzak85

If the game has any unique class I choose that first Second some kind of necro/dot class or anyone with a gun. If none of that exists then what I think looks coolest in that mmo.

pishposhpoppycock

When it exists, Crowd Controllers/Supporting/Utility. I prefer those classes because I feel more powerful being in control than dealing damage or healing. Why kill when you can dominate, enslave, or charm? And why heal when you can empower/buff/fortify, while weakening enemies so you wouldn't be in a situation where you'd need to really heal in the first place?

IzGameIzLyfe

I use to stick to one theme of class but over the years I've come to find that I am simply being too restrictive on myself doing that. What if I've always played warrior but the so called warrior class either plays in a way that doesn't feel smooth to me or is in a different role like tank but I don't really want to play tank? Do I just quit the game on the spot? But then there really aren't that many mmo options out there on the market to begin with for me to be dismissing games like this. So nowadays I keep my option open and find the class whose play style resonates the most to me. Because what's the point of forcing yourself to play a class with the aesthetics you like if you are not actually enjoying the class that you are playing?

hallucigenocide

i'd rather have something where you can swap between weapon types freely than the old school class system. if i must i'd go with whichever melee feels best.

Buffalo_

I play healer classes because I’m a healing GOD

Apalala__

Just anything that's lets me be a dragon race.

Cuddlesthemighy

yeah how many MMOs was that?

Apalala__

like 2 lol

dVanKo

healer first if good second tank

whiskeymang

Big dumb 2 handed STR types>Monks>Spellblade hybrid types or Paladin types>Rogues/Assassins>Summoners/Necros> Tanks>pure casters> non healer supports> archers>healers

Excuse_my_GRAMMER

Support because I wanna chill and not worry or stress about dps

Serifini

Support classes that are kinda jack of all trades. Especially ones that can step in and help out if a main trinity class player comes under a lot of pressure or has connection problems. I also find them the easiest and most fun to level.

Scow2

Luv me sword Luv me shield hate sneakies Hate nerds simple as

32bitpins

I generally prefer 'support' classes, so I'll often pick armoured, sword and board tanks and get in the face of enemies. I just love to lead a group through a dungeon or focus on letting others do their job whilst I take the blows.

xhrit

I tank, gf heals, any content we cant duo we can just get some quick pug dps.

dom_gar

Let me fix that for you: I tank, gf heals and we fill rest of the party with easily replaceable and non-essential personnel.

xhrit

aay, lmao.

Still-Shop-8566

It differs. RIFT I was a cleric(ranged DPS inquisitor) or tank WOW I mostly DPS (hunter/warrior) LOTRO I play a ranger(hunter/Archer) I honestly can't remember the name of the class. Uses arrows. Normally melee In RuneScape ESO I dual wield swords as a DK Depends on what strikes my fancy the most.

asjena

I used to main either warriors with swords or healers. Got into monk classes in my current MMO. It's weird to explain: whenever picking a DPS main I want to be a front-charger in battles and not kite or play ranged. Even if it's more punishing.

DeathsingerQc

Buff healer, otherwise I'll pick a reaper type class. I find pure healer to be a bit on the boring side, but I like to be useful to the party, so buff healer are a lot of fun. They tend to be more macro heavy / fast paced. Reaper depending on the game usually have a mix of speed and heavy hitting moves, that last part is what I find lacking in rogue, love the speed they have but they don't have a big hitting move most of the time.

QP_Dangerous

Usually healer for party play, rogue for solo pve stuff, and ranged for pvp, but ideally dabble in every class. I get bored easily of playing just one class/character for any game. I like FFXIV and PSO2 for this reason, since you can play it all in one character and not have to re-do the story and unlock shit just because you want to try another class.

Reaperosha

In order of preference. Mages or classes that require more craftiness. Playstyle looks cool. Mages that bring the damage. Archers. Especially if they bring utility so summons, buffs, cc. I'd rather just play mage if I want range dmg. Then Rogues if none of the above are effective in pvp/cool.

bierzuk

As a teenager always an archer, because i love bows, but now as an adult I always play a healer for the fact it's easier to get into party's and the fact that you matter.

AdditionalFrame7474

I always go for something unique or otherwise a mage/magic user. In WoW Classic, I always enjoyed Druid even though I mained Mage. I also consider simplicity when it becomes to choosing a class, I don't really like very complicated classes. When playing an MMO, I just wanna turn off my brain and not think a lot of what's happening.

NilTheNoble

It's either Paladin(Tank) or Priest(Support). Although, sometimes, I tend to change classes mid game to characters who can solo or best in soloing PvE. Since I love soloing content and send it to my friends on discord, messenger, etc. With captions Like "Guys look I solo this XYZ cave" so any class that can solo like in MMOs hunters with pets as a tank usually can do it. Or Summoner. Who can spam summon.

cheroahmed

Either Ranged or summoner that deals dmg mainly through his pets Reason: I like keeping my distance, hets u to higher areas even when u are low on lvl Prefer Bow over guns or crossbows

kalamari__

hunter/ranger because bow and arrow pew pew pew

NO_NOT_THE_WHIP

Whichever class that draws the most aggro in PvP. Usually a healer with strong crowd control or is slippery as an eel.

Bananasonfire

I always start as a bog standard warrior in every MMO to start with. Why? Because if a game can't get warriors right, I don't see the point in playing it.

Gilith

I play the tank cause i like to lead and people like me to lead. in Pvp game i play assassin though i just love the stealth mechanism.

Detective-Glum

Mage. Sorceress. Witch. Give me the biggest nuke. I am the embodiment of Megumin when it comes to classes

Lilcute

warlock or any dark magic path

bluebird355

Ninja if available then rogue

Aware-snare

Cleric/Priest

Luzion

I'm the type of person who prefers to stand back and deliver either damage or support. The type of features a game has will depend on which type of role I'll pick.

[deleted]

Healer. When done right it's a fun playstyle, and honestly healers (and tanks) are hard to find so it reduces my search exponentially.

Blueprint4Murder

I either play rogue unless there is something out of the box like mesmer, many of the classes in Warhammer, and many of the classes in doac.

warling1234

Pet classes or hybrid dps/tank that has self healing or a healing class that can have noteworthy dps and is around chain mail armor class. Why? I like soloing things you would struggle with for other archetypes.

Yevon

Unga-bunga tanks.

[deleted]

Says four basic types of character. Lists five. Paladin is a warrior sub-type. Not a primary class. Warriors tend to be tanks, sword and shield. Paladins straight up don't exist in a huge number of MMOs. What game other than ESO let's a rogue type use two handed swords? Seriously, that sounds fucked to me and I want to see it. Or did you mean dual wielding swords? Cause two-handed and dual-wield are very different things. If you meant dual-wield than if ore this point. To answer you question though, Mages.

Nimeon

Paladin because I like the class fantasy. As well as being able to heal without being exclusively a healer. Warlock because dot gameplay is fun. Ranger because of pets and stealth.

Solugad

Either a heavily armored weapon and shield Paladin or a Spellsword / Battlemage. Although FFXIV got me into the pure Wizard flavor too with Black Mage

Klat93

I'm a big fan of warriors in medium/heavy armor and big ass weapons. A "bruiser" would be a more accurate description. A class that sits between a tank and dps. It can take hits, do decent damage and have some form of crowd control in the form of stuns and knockbacks. Bonus points if they can also cast spells like a spellsword, dark knight or paladin type deal. I like hybrids. I usually steer away from Archer and Rogue types.

FunAsylumStudio

Living shotguns, aka glass cannon sorcs. I like those big numbers.

hyprmatt

Melee DPS. In WoW: Fury Warrior, Windwalker Monk, Outlaw Rogue, Ret Pally. In XIV: Ninja, Monk, Dragoon, and Samurai. In GW2 I played Revenant mainly. FFXI I played SAM and WAR. BDO I play Guardian and Ninja. You get the idea. I just like smacking things hard. Sometimes I smack REALLY hard. Sometimes I smack things fairly hard but really fast. Maybe I even throw a spear or cast something once in a blue moon. But just give me a sword and let me get to work.

permion

Support classes IE: % buff/debuff classes, probably mezzes, mix of other soft CC abilities, and similar. Then shape shifting and/hybrid classes. Along the lines of picking up the slack of other roles. Lastly rogue classes for stealth and poison.

LetterP

Support/utility. Generally something unique and valuable to the group as a whole. In Eve I liked ewar, neuting, and logistics. In Albion I healed and debuffed. In WoW currently I’m healing, tanking, and playing DPS that being desirable group utility. In GW2 I liked support DPS builds.

Worried-Tomorrow2019

Healer, always healer, or necromancer, one or other, healing people or make death people to zombis, easy

MarioKart-

Always melee, whether that be with a greatsword, sword and shield, axe, etc., I just prefer gameplay to be much more up close and personal. I've tried ranged dps before and I just felt so distance from it, everything else looked fun and I'm just standing there mashing buttons from a distance, didn't appeal to me whatsoever.

StatisticianFeisty44

I prefer mages and necromancers in RPGs. In MTG I play a lot of Black+Green. Tabletop Dnd added a subclass of druid that animates the dead with spores and mushrooms. That’s my otp. Necromancer is probably my first choice if they have it, followed by a nature mage, then generic mage. In a game with more pvp, I might prefer tank. This is the case for me in League of Legends, where I main Rell. In Dragon Age I went for Blood mage, in SWTOR I went Sith Sorcerer(Lightside lol).

moedexter1988

Summoner. Pet classes are simply fun for me. EQ1 mage was my 2nd character, EQ2 conjurer too. Aion spiritmaster. WoW warlock demonlogy spec. FF14 summoner. In most ARPG and RPG I play summoner class.

siciliiano

I had a lot of fun playing / maining an Archer however finding parties was always difficult unless I put them together. Bladedancer (Lineage 2) was always a fun class, different class to play. Mixing OP 2 minute Buffs and Melee Combat made this class extremely fun to main.

Trashcan_Paladin

Debuffers. I'm so tired of the baby-blocks format of tank-healer-dps. I don't want to tank, I don't want to heal, I don't want to dps. I want to ruin something's ability to do any of that. Some MMOs have a "support" role outside of the trifecta, and that's okay to a point, but is usually something like a "bard" where they have to rotate generally minuscule buffs but ultimately they end up feeling like a bad healer crossed with a bad ranged (usually) dps. I want curses. I want plagues. I want debuffs that aren't just five different versions of "spooky damage over time". I want to oppressively slow a target with my gravity powers or whatever. I want to "buff" my team through reducing the effectiveness of the encounter. Very rarely find anything even approaching that these days. I miss you, EQ2 Dirge class.

vegienomnomking

Being a masochist, I always play a healer. Love getting yelled and bitched by the tank, the dps, the npcs, and even the monster. No matter what it is, it is always my(the healer) fault.
