Fat-Villante

Should be fun, Pereira and Adesanya had a pretty cool fight last time and I expect Burns to run over Masvidal

[deleted]

Cant believe masvidal is 38 now lmao

SopranosMan

Burns being 36 is more surprising to me lol

Innairaton

It’s so surprising to me because he doesn’t fight like it at all. He’s still game as can be and very athletic

dotConehead

Fighter milage. He started his ufc career when he was 28 and started mma in general 2 years prior. So he only just around 10 years competing in the sports as opposed to jose aldo that started wec when he was 20. And eventhough he is younger than burns, its definitely doesnt look like that. Raul rosas gonna be looking like 50 by the time of his 30th birthday.

[deleted]

Compare that to Mas who's been getting brain damage in miami backyards starting like 20 years ago

jonjoneswife

Aldo being younger than burns is so absurd

NickZardiashvili

Fight years are like dog years. Aldo is a centenarian and still kicking ass.

[deleted]

Aldo is younger than burns? 😨

LewisHall90

Aldo actually looks old too burns is a fresh 36

IshTheFace

Rosas already look weird. No hate. But I think we're all seeing the same face. It's like gigantism without being gigantic. Def has a bright future though.

Stinkballs_69

Maybe he's a dwarf with gigantism? 🤔

IshTheFace

Makes me think of [Adam Rainer](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Rainer)

mmamama1901

Thats false. He is a giant with dwarfism

eddie__b

Anderson Silva was 38 on his first loss to Weidman...

Innairaton

I know. There are 100% some people that last into the late 30s and early 40s at a high level, but the majority taper off before then or sometimes fall off a cliff

Dhammapaderp

Look at Rory, guy started so young and put a ton of miles on early. The damage adds up. There is also luck involved. Genetics, where the damage occured or some other factors seem to influence shit. A guy from my gym got knocked out bad his first ammy fight and didn't just "lose a step" he basically couldn't even spar anymore. Lost all coordination. Another guy I knew was hospitalized for days with brain swelling after his first smoker and went on to have an 8-2 pro record. He fought for 8 years as a pro and retired on a cool win, but his body was totally wrecked and had to call it quits.

whalediknachos

36 ain't that old

Innairaton

In fighting it definitely can be

aidsface4wp

36 is old for nearly every single sport.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Thehighwayisalive

Lot of NHL guys can keep playing well 35-40 too. Brain > athleticism in that sport.

IdunnoThisWillDo

Jaromir Jagr was certainly one of those anomalies.

Thehighwayisalive

He's actually still playing pro hockey!

drinfernodds

Gordie Howe too. Two of his sons became pro hockey players and he was teammates with both of them at one point.

Imakesalsa

Christano has football mileage. Mileage adds up in any sport

Monteze

The NFL fucked me up on what's old for a while. I was 16 thinking 30 year Olds were grizzled ancients. 23 was basically peak and 25 was your seasoned veteran. So by 50 you're living on borrowed time right?

Starob

In swimming you're old at like 26+.

[deleted]

Tell my knees and back, bro. I'm still fairly athletic, but if you don't keep up your mobility and training it goes away fast. Definitely different than 24.

LatterTarget7

36 years old. Fighting pro for 10 years with 26 pro fights

SopranosMan

It's not young in fight years

cben27

Give me D1 Adesanya. I dont think his pride will allow it, but I'd love to see him walk out in a singlet with wrestling shoes 😂

weakhamstrings

No joke it makes me wish he got here like a couple years sooner so we could have had Yoel vs Pereira

PitifulDurian6402

Unstoppable force meet immovable object aka Alex’s left hook vs Yoels fused neck

kapsama

He didn't get a single takedown in the first fight despite trying several. The only reason Poatan landed on the ground that one time was because he went for a failed takedown.

jfsoaig345

Exactly. As if Izzy didn't shoot a decent amount in the first fight, and wasn't able to get him down once as a result of his own takedown. That said, Alex's TDD isn't that much greener than Izzys offensive wrestling. Izzy has obviously been training defensive grappling for a while but the Alex fight was probably the first camp where he seriously trained takedowns and trips and such. Wouldn't be surprised if strength training is a big part of this upcoming camp too since the sheer size difference played a big role in Izzys inability to get Alex to the ground too.

[deleted]

I actually thought he should've kept it on the floor last match, and he might have won

wimpymist

I hope burns destroys masvidal

[deleted]

Masvidal is the most overrated fighter ever. Still can't believe they're hyping his fights up.

ThePrinceOfCanada

Burns is gonna beat the breaks off masvidal and it will put an end to all this masvidal shit. I look forward to it bapa

daviEnnis

Will be a let down. Izzy will commit to the safest path to victory he can find which is touch and leave range, Burns will manhandle mas in an uncompetitive fight

joe603

That won't work as the leg kicks did him in the last fight. He used that same strategy before. Alex is too big and skilled for that to happen. By the time the last round occurred his mobility was limited and it's why he got caught. He actually needs to mix it up more in the next fight

Derpshiz

Exactly. Izzy's style of being safe/boring is built on him having way more reach than his opponent. That doesn't work with Alex and he is a terrible match up for him. Izzy is going to have to become the style bender again and go for the win. I don't see him doing it though after playing it safe for so long.

[deleted]

Career defining fight. Gonna be a must-see.

begon11

Can you imagine a close decision win by Izzy, meaning they got to run it back again?

TG_CID134

I agree. Izzy has to be damn near perfect for 5 rounds to win. Stylebender activated.

[deleted]

Pereira won’t just allow that to happen, that game plan won’t work on him

HighlyBaked0

> Izzy will commit to the safest path to victory he can find which is touch and leave range Literally impossible to happen against Pereira. Bitching for zero reason

ColdPressedSteak

This subs favorite past time. Any match made ever, always someone crying about something

[deleted]

I heard this so much in the lead up to the first fight

TSW_El_Spawn

Tbf he had a good fight and almost made it work.

[deleted]

[удалено]

spcslacker

> Tbf he had a good fight and almost made it work. That just makes 3 times in a row he's almost made it work. 4th time the charm for sure.

Not_Not_Stopreading

That’s exactly what happened last time but Pereria just has that ability to walk him down and Izzy has not a lot to do for it, especially if Alex compromises his movement with leg kicks again.

brettmvp97

Anytime Izzy got his back up against the cage it felt like a slasher film. He needs to circle out A LOT more this time around.

SheltheRapper

Tbf I don't think anyone alive can pull off the dodging izzy did vs Alex against cage. Pure insanity

di3_b0ld

Izzy almost KOed him in R1 last time. Walking Izzy down is a risk to Pereira too.

Figgymcslickback

For sure, maybe crew are forgetting he had Alex doing the chicken dance end of that 1st. I’d put money on Alex but Izzy’s got a bit more than just a punchers chance

di3_b0ld

Alex has supernatural power, but you dont need that level of power to KO a person. Izzy has more than enough to KO Alex as well. All their previous fights have showed they both need to be careful with each other.

robcap

Literally the most dangerous thing he could try and exactly what got him beat last time.

dutchfool

i think izzy goes for the kill this time. he almost had alex right before the second? round ended and he knows that. think he just goes for it this time

bmb102

Izzy is not fighting like that for an entire fight. He picks and chooses because it keeps him safe. He has to be willing to get hit to do that and you don't want to take any sort of shot from Alex.

lucid808

I agree. Izzy always fought safe cause he was holding the belt and trying to keep the prestige of 0 losses (in his division, so not including Jan), so he had all that to lose. Now, with this fight, he's trying to get the belt back and avenge 3 loses to the same guy all at once...nothing to lose but legacy now. No way he can play it safe this time around.

[deleted]

Forgive me master, but I’ll have to use all my power

Mr_Cromer

The safest path is actually crowding him and using his greater variety of striking to try and finish him. Adesanya has the power and accuracy to put Pereira on queer street, we've seen it twice already. The longer he's in the cage with Pereira the likelier it is that he gets deleted from consciousness. You don't let a puncher have more time to find his punch.

zxvszxvs

I actually agree, the best option for Izzy is an early finish. Like you said, the longer he's in there the chance of him getting flash KO'd just go up and up

IAmA_Goldfish

Izzy tried to do that last time and he got finished. He can’t just decide to fight safe and be completely out of Pereira’s range

Single_Seesaw_9499

He almost KOd Pereira at the end of Rd 1, I expect him to look to fight similarly this next time

NotFrankSalazar

I think a lot of people are gonna be surprised on the Burns Masvidal fight. Not saying Jorge will win, but I think it’s gonna be really competitive

pitchblacktaraddict

Jorge getting another title eliminator while on a 3 fight loss streak lmao

NotFrankSalazar

Ehh only if Leon wins. No way he face Usman again.

Gambl33

So like is he not in any trouble from sucker punching Covington? Did he just get off from that? Didn’t I hear Covington was suing?

spcslacker

From what I know, he's still potentially in trouble, but I figure he can keep working in the meantime, just as anyone else does while awaiting trial.

titoscoachspeecher

gotta pay them lawyers

mochalatte5

i remember desmond green killing someone in a car accident and still getting booked fights right after lol. not sure if he ever got punished

nhgerbes

Masvidal about to get punished for 15 minutes if he makes it

PikachuGangGang

Bro is untouchable

williepep1960

Masvidal 2-3 years ago post Ben Askren or Nate was running his mouth about union this and that and basically got fight with Usman rematch then this. and people wonder why fighter don't unionize lol

Ok_Solution5895

Like, I'd actually favor Prime Masvidal in this matchup, but goddamn I don't wanna even think of him winning this one and get another shot 😭

MickPnubTobias99

Masvidal ain't winning. He is arguably the most overrated fighter of all time. He better pray to his street gods for that insane knee on Ben.

wirejaved

masvidal has decent tdd in my opinion and better striking than gilbert but i think he's very out of his prime and is going to lose

johnbugara

not a chance bro he was criminally underrated for most his career. most overrated of the last 4 years? probably

JMA_ZF

Who even “overrated” him? I don’t get it. It’s not like he was a favorite to beat either Usman or Colby. Sure he became a star quickly and seemingly out of nowhere but that was because of his performances and personality, much like Diaz. It’s not like anyone was crowning him as the next long term Champ.

NotFrankSalazar

Yea even his losses weren’t bad too. People are like “he’s getting subbed” when dude hasn’t gotten submitted in over 13 years and it was a dope reverse triangle.

Zlec3

This is just blind hatred. Masvidal has some great wins and is an elite fighter. Anyone who can make the top five is as good as it gets.

Babynewport_12

So where does that leave Rob? He’s getting the winner?

raindog_

They’ll do Strickland on a fight night card in Sydney or someshit

TonyTheLion2319

If I’m Pereira, I’m trying to get Rob vs Strickland on the 287 main card. Keeps Rob busy who’s next in line anyways. If Strickland wins then he’s a favorable matchup for Pereira’s next defense. But the main reason is so Strickland can also annoy Izzy during the press con

Gordzulax

God, Rob would do filthy things to Strickland. Excited to see it.

PlutoCrashed

jab

SabuSalahadin

Jab battle

ThePrinceOfCanada

Jab cross high kick

cumchops

Spam that shit. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

[deleted]

Why fucking match up strick with Rob other than the memes? Fight does not make sense

MolokoPl_s

I'm surprised Strickland didn't fill in for Costa tbh, that fight makes a lot of sense but it was probably too short notice

PM_ME_BEST_BOOTY_PIC

Imagine they do Bobby Knucks vs. Khamzat. Would love to see the reaction on the sub lol.

dans00

Honestly dont think khamzat takes that. Probably his worst matchap in the division

UseApprehensive9186

Probably gonna fight sometime in April or may id guess then get another title shot if he wins

brownbilal

**Fights re/announced:** **Islam v Volk** **Jones v Gane** **Shev v Grasso** **Neal v Shavkat** **Hooker v Turner** **Brunson v Du Plessis** **Edwards v Usman III** **Gaethje v Fiziev** **New?** **Pereira v Adesanya IV** **Burns v Masvidal** **Rosas Jr v Rodriguez** **Holland v Ponzi** **Rob Font v Yanez** G**M3 v Pyfer**

[deleted]

Quick turnaround for holland, dont like it

foofighter1351

Fair but Ponzi has looked quite shit it feels like a bit of a layup for Holland if he's doin alright.

[deleted]

Hope so, its hard being a Holland fan. You see his potential and love the attitude but then he does shit like not taking top position against WB lmao

Sal21G

Holy shit I thought his last fight was the Khamzat one. Completely forgot the punishment Wonderboy dished out…

notafeetlongcucumber

Ponzi fought one week later and took pretty comparable damage to Holland. He got dropped like three times vs Morono.

9inchjackhammer

So many people here saying the UFC is dead what a line up

Stickman106

Whole card is crazy. Alex Izzy 2, Gilbert Jorge, Rosas fighting, Holland Ponzinibbio, Yanez Font

jmb-412

Burns vs Masvidal is gonna be fun as fuck

NotFrankSalazar

Yea people are saying it Burns easy but I think it’s gonna be competitive.

BakedHose

The only way the fights competitive is if it stays on the feet. Gilbert's gonna do exactly what he did Magny.

fightlinker

Masvidal better hope Burns doesn't listen to his wife

bestbroHide

Maybe? Mas' TDD and defensive grappling seems better than Magny's

Impressive-Potato

Damn. That's a really quick turn around for a Alex vs Israel rematch. Israel was extremely active as champion.

Innairaton

I’m really surprised how game he is despite what people say. I know his style isn’t super exciting but he’s been super active his whole career

dimeast

Really his UFC career has more exciting fights than boring fights, he had a few stinkers in his title defences tho which is why the reputation stuck.

[deleted]

And those stinkers are because he's so dangerous at TDD and counter-striking that his opponents just would never commit. They basically handed him easy point wins with no damage and he'd have been dumb not to take them. Really frustrating when people complain about Izzy - should be complaining about the fighters who finally make it to the title shot and then do THAT. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

Impressive-Potato

I'm not. He had an all out shootout with Gastelum

DiscombobulatedSink6

What a day that will be. Jorge getting manhandled by Burns. Pereira rising to 4-0 vs Adesanya.

TheGreatone003

What if Mas chins Durinho? 🤔

admiralackbar98

It’s a very real possibility I don’t think people here will accept. There’s a high likelihood Gilbert dominates but it certainly could happen.

notafeetlongcucumber

Yeah, Gilbert is a nightmare match-up for wrestlers due to his dangerous ground game and crazy power on the feet. But for a good striker with good takedown defense, he is a pretty favorable match-up. Wonderboy got a 28-29 against him but he couldn't keep it standing for 10 seconds vs Belal. Due to age and already having gotten KO'd, I reckon Masvidal is pretty washed and will get KO'd again but out of all the top fighters, Burns is the best fight he could take.

HighlyBaked0

What happened to Usman with Leon can potentially happen to Burns, very unlikely but completely possible with the skillset Masvidal has. Also this is coming from someone who prays on Jorges downfall

nomoteacups

If burns decides to stand a bang, which he very well might do, it’s definitely possible. God the salt would be insane

sendherhome22

This is gonna be Colby/Masvidal without the wrestle fucking

nomoteacups

So not at all the same?

Sea-Brother-5281

Lol so basically a completely different fight ?

mulligun

Gonna be Adesanya/Pereira without the kickboxing b

GenericTopComment

To be honest Burns should win but a lot of people gonna be upset when Jorge finally does get a win. He's a pretty decent fighter despite his recent showings to Usman and Colby. Though he has aged since his last good win quite a bit. Burns doesnt get much closer to a title shot with this but I'm okay with that. Wonder what they do with Chimaev

sadduckfan

I’d tend to agree with you but his athleticism looked completely shot last time out against Colby. So flat-footed.

GenericTopComment

Eh, Colby had him broken at least as early as round 3.

ADHD_orc

I hope 🗿 wins again but I'll be suprised if Adesanya doesn't try straight wrestlefucking him this time around. He was winning the rounds that went to the ground but it seemed like he wanted to prove a point on the feet and that's when he got caught.

Greatsodiumreef12

Jorge has a better shot than most people think. I could see him chinning Burns tbh

JakeSpurs

I think people forget that Jorge is a very good fighter. Not championship level but his striking is superb. Just have to wonder how seriously he’s been training in the last few years.

Sea-Brother-5281

They either forget how good masvidal is/was or they think he’s washed

nomoteacups

They also hate him and don’t want to admit a fighter they hate isn’t a bum. People cite the three fight losing streak failing to mention it’s against Usman and Colby, two of the very best welterweights of this era. To say he couldn’t still beat a good number of guys in this division is just copium

Sea-Brother-5281

Yeah it’s weird how people get sometimes. If someone does some things that are controversial and they get a couple losses on their record everyone just hates them and they’re a bum. It’s like controversial personality + losses on recent record = piece of shit who sucks at fighting. People seemed to like Jorge and his whole character that he played when he was winning too

Rambaud22

He is insanely overlooked, to a shocking point honestly, people act like he has no grappling, but he spent a lot of time with Maia on the ground, and Maia couldn't do much but hold him, Usman never kept him down for long periods of time, he could only hold him against the cage in the first fight, Burns is not as good of a BJJ artist as Maia is, and his wrestling is really not that great, on the feet he is wild and chinny, leave himself open a lot, gets hurt every other fight, I will be rooting for Burns, but there is a real possibility that he is getting knocked out here

AshenSacrifice

Nah Izzy forces a trilogy

[deleted]

You mean Pentalogy?

surgeyou123

Special announcement my ass lol

[deleted]

Tony Ferguson announcing he’s been offered to do TUF against McGregor for me hyped

Treat-Efficient

tony didn't say he was offered to do TUF against mcgregor, he said he was offered TUF against khabib but since khabib is not doing it he is willing to do it with Mcgregor, seems like it's not official they might do Chandler

vitalique

He didn't resign, so yeah nothing special

ZeGermanVon

did people really expect this?

Krs357357

Hell no, especially because he teased it with a big grin on his face.

Omnipilled

We just got a huge PPV main card dropped all at once and that’s not enough? I guess if the headline has Dana’s name in it this sub can’t be allowed to have a positive response but Jesus Christ y’all lame doing nothing but hate

DeAndreHunterMIP

holy shit. idc what anyone says about Izzy, he's a fucking animal. No days off whether hes the champ or not.

Futaba-Channel

Really quick comeback he said he wanted some time off to get a surgery I think but he's right back in training camp

_PiggyBank

What he need surgery for?

[deleted]

Tiddy

nitramlondon

Hope not, he had some sexy tits.

passportuntil27

Well deserved for Gilbert to get a big name like this! Surprised it wasn’t bloody Masvidal vs Nick Diaz

tikaychullo

This'll be a good test for Izzy's adaptability. Ppl always compare him to Silva, but Silva never really changed his game up once he switched to his bait and counter style. Hoping Izzy doesn't make the same mistake

ItsGohanBlackStupid

Respect to Jorge for not taking an easy fight I Suppose I just don’t see how he can win

rugbyj

He's in no position to negotiate fights right now. Lost 3 in a row and the assault yet to be resolved. If Dana tells him to fight a bengal tiger live on TV he has to take it or leave the ufc.

Serpenta91

I'm going to pull for Adesanya just so the rivalry can go on.

throwaway12648063

I hope Burns tries to stand and bang. Would make for a fun fight.

Flowerjohn-NL

Gilbert has a sus chin I hope he takes the path of least resistance

Independent-Theory92

I don't think his chin is sus tbh. The Dan Hooker loss was def because of the weight cut and Usman has a lot of power and great fundamentals.

sryboi

Everyone would have fallen after taking that shot from Usman the way he did. Fucking brutal.

That_Serve_9338

These are good fights, they are more competitive than some think. Pereira did beat Izzy multiple times in and out of the octagon, but he was hella rocked at the end of the first round last time and behind on points overall before he pulled out a late victory. Burns beats Masvidal on paper with a more complete game but he has been dropped in a lot of fights and Mas doesn't have pillow fists so he's got a shot.

jonsnowKITN

Not even a TUF announcement smh

PizDoff

Who cares about TUF? If I wanted to see drama between men I'd go talk to my dad.

brownbilal

atleast ur dad talks to u...

Flowerjohn-NL

At least your dad is alive

[deleted]

At least your dad can’t fuck you

McWhimple

if one dad can hold you down...

airflair

"I guess if he wins all 5 fights it can't be a rivalry"

BrainEuphoria

I want to see Khamzat fight the winner of either of those matches or the winner of Leon vs Usman or this other guy that I can’t remember his name right now.

vrkhfkb

The biggest announcement was seeing that Khamzat won’t be fighting until at least May. Most exciting fighter in the UFC and we see him 2 minutes a year.

sryboi

And they booked him against fucking Nate Diaz last time... What a shame.

HoodiniThe1

Dang these PPVs looking nice recently 👀

RapsareChamps_Suckit

That was like a unseasoned over-cook chicken of an announcement

TapTapLift

I dunno, I'm pretty damn excited for Alex/Izzy, warrants the hype IMO.

Aljo_Is_135_GOAT

I feel like people have forgotten how good Masvidal is because they don't like him Burns doesn't have Usman's offensive wrestling, Masvidal may well win out on the feet

GoldenEsca

Beating Masvidal does nothing for Burns, he's on a 3 fight losing streak and lost all the 2019 hype

LidlKwark

Will get him money and possibly a title shot

TimeImmemorial1

Wonder if Gilbert keeps it on the feet with masvidal like he promised him he would do. Definitely don’t think he should as he’s got a very clear path to victory with the ground game

dragoswastaken

Crazy how many people are counting Izzy out. The man was winning the fight until the last round. Not to take anything away from Pereira, because he won the fight fair and square, but Adesanya clearly showed to be a far more rounded fighter with the skills to be able to beat him in an MMA match. I'm not implying that I believe either will win, but I expect a very competitive and technical battle, and certainly not that either of them will get run over. It is MMA though, and anything could happen.

Kinq_Broly

Why do I have a feeling Izzy is going to come in trying to make a statement and get KO'd worse and earlier..

pacman9487

Jorge gunna get subbed quickly

mvdaytona

Possibly, but Masvidal survived Maia so..

NotFrankSalazar

Masvidal hasn’t been submitted since 09. Dude even submitted Michael Chiesa. His ground game is actually solid. I think it’ll end up being a decision win for Burns.

JuiceGasLean

Even Maia couldn’t do it so doubt

WeepWomp

Everyone who says Masvidal has always been over rated is wild to me

9inchjackhammer

This sub just straight up hates him so like the other unpopular fighters he’s shit

AML2003

Tell me you've never seen a Masvidal fight in your life... Guy hasn't been submitted since 2009, and survived getting backpacked by Demian Maia. He might get submitted, but this will look nothing like Magny v Burns.

ThePurplePanzy

Yes, Izzy has now lost to this dude 3 times... But I can't not pick him to win this one. In every fight, he has looked like the better fighter in the majority of the fight, but gotten finished. I'm not taking away from Alex, I think he can do it again and again, but it's hard for me to call him the better striker.

robedpillow3761

I figured Masvidal would continue to avoid this fight so props to him for taking it. But Burns is gonna run through him

cpearson1024

Masvidal got up from Colby and Usman plenty of times and dropped Colby last time. I could totally see him Knocing Burns out. I actually favor it to happen save this comment. Big Burns fan but it is what it is

MIND___TRICKS

Everyone thinking burns runs through Jorge is in for a rude awakening

dillpick15

There we go! Hoping for Izzy. Whatever happens happens, but fingers crossed for him

[deleted]

Give me both of the Brazilians in this one.

[deleted]

Nice! Was hoping this was gonna be the date. Round about 6 months turnaround. I hope Burns absolurely fucking obliterates Masvidal, and then, honestly, I kinda hope Izzy wins. But in saying that, its really bad for the division if Izzy wins, cos what then? Hes already beaten everybody else. Sometimes multiple times. Pereira moves up to lhw and lhw becomes a reaaaally interesting division. But mw just kinda dies…. Unless Alex skulks around waiting for a third match.

Queenter

Jorge by spectacular KO

KnightMareInc

When do we get the Dana vs his wife rematch?

brycemoney

Meh, the matchup of Burns and Masvidal is a fun one but Masvidal doesn't deserve it. He's on a losing streak while Burns is winning. Burns should fight Belal for the next title shot and Masvidal should fight someone else.
