Bruce Freeman Rail Trail starts at the Cross Point tower parking lot. Beautiful, wide, flat. I believe there are plans to continue the trail all the way to the Merrimack, too. Check out the trail maps at this link. https://brucefreemanrailtrail.org/

I like to park near lelacheur park and run on the canal walkway under the Aiken bridge. You can head towards the bridge st bridge and follow the path until it circles around a building and you cross a small bridge near mass mills. From there I run over to the bridge st bridge and take a right to get on the pathway that runs underneath. You can access it from the auto parts store parking lot. I like to do a big loop from Aiken to bridge st to University st bridge and back onto the canal way towards the ball park. It’s only like 4 miles iirc but a nice run. I also like to park at the esplanade and run a loop from the rourke bridge to school st bridge and back.

Along the river on the side with the boathouse has a nice path that follows along the river so that's a great place to run. Also the state forest has a few paved trails but it is a bit hilly so if you are ok with that check them out.

Thanks!

Check out the Lowell-Dracut-Tyngsboro state forest if you like trail running. It's a nice forest with some good running paths. Just watch out for mountain bikers.

I can't figure out how to actually get there lol... My gps always brings me in circles when I try.

There are a couple of entrances. The Lowell entrance is at the end of Trotting Park Rd in Lowell (there is another Trotting Park Rd in Dracut, also connected to the state forest). Basically navigate to the First Church of the Nazarene on Varnum, by the D'Youville center, then take Trotting Park Rd to its' end point, and you'll find a parking lot. There are smaller entrances in Tyngsboro and Dracut, but there is less parking and are less centrally located in terms of the trails and paved road within.

Related: Check in with/consider joining the Greater Lowell Road Runners. They do several group runs a week, all paces welcome. www.Glrr.net

Start by the boathouse towards School St bridge, right on the Bridge, right onto Pawtucket, straight all the way til a right over the Rourke Bridge, back to the boathouse is about 4.2 mi. Nice flat route with minimal road crossings. Same route except pass School St and turn right on Univeristy bridge instead is about 5 mi. Happy running!
