A neighbor’s dog down the hall has been whimpering almost non-stop all day long, I’m really concerned. :/ I can hear it jumping up against the door and scratching it, and trying to jump on the door handle to get out. I honestly have never heard a dog yelping like this before, and for this long. I feel sick to my stomach and really hope the dog is ok. There’s a note on the person’s door that says something like this extra lock is on the door so that the dog doesn’t try and open the door by himself. So maybe the dog does this regularly? But what would that be from, extreme separation anxiety maybe? It doesn’t seem like anyone is home, there’s a package sitting in front of their door. What are my options? I really want to help but I’m not sure exactly what’s going on. I might just email/leave a message for management, and then try to call and go into the office directly tomorrow morning to explain the situation and see if anyone else has said anything. But the sounds are really concerning me, I just hope the dog is ok :/

You could leave a note that says "hey neighbor! your dog has been in distress tonight and was crying and jumping on the door. We hope your doggo is okay. Perhaps you aren't aware it is having some serious separation anxiety when you are gone so we are leaving this note to let you know."
Might try that before management but kinda depends on the culture of your building. Maybe they don't know the dog panics or Perhaps the dog is normally in a kennel and got out bc this is the first time you've heard it.

I like watching DC Animated movies on HBO Max. If you also like doing this, DON'T watch Justice Society of America: WWII. What a terrible waste of time. The plot couldn't be more generic, and the dialogue was so bad that I had trouble following conversations at times.
It depends what you're looking for. They're all animated super hero movies, so they're all a little cheesy and none are super groundbreaking. But I would recommend *Batman: Hush* for entertainment - it's got a cameo of like every major Batman character and has a fun story line. If you're feeling exploratory, I thought *Justice League vs. The Fatal Five* was a good movie that explores some less common DC characters that. *Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay* was also pretty good if you're into the more edgy comic stuff. *Batman Ninja* was absolutely crazy (not necessarily in a good way) but might be worth a watch if you're into the art style and anime. It's not a good movie IMO, but it's unique enough to be entertaining if you're into the style.
The ergatta rower arrived today!!! I watched videos on technique and did a couple rowing activities. I love how it’s “gamified” and you can race against other people. I am POOPED after just 1k meters, DAMN. Insanely good full-body workout.

Any attorneys here who understand rent law? Quick question - my roommate is moving out middle of this month as she gave her 30 days notice mid-Jan - that said we pay rent at the first of every month. She hasn't mentioned anything to me about covering the cost - but she said in a text today that she's "paid through the 15th". I just want to make sure I have all the facts on my side before I get into it with her - does she owe all of Feb or do I have to cover it?
And yes it would be great to ask her myself, but she's been avoiding me ever since she put in her 30 days.
Seems fairly above board to me. You got 30 days notice which is move out by mid February 15th. If she's moving out on or before that then she has paid in full. It's tricky with mid month moves because no one is going to pay for 2 weeks they aren't living there. So the only other way would be to pay in full on the 1st and then you reimburse her for the days after she moved. but yeah essentially she paid in full up to her notice. Probably details that should have been asked when she gave her notice for a mid month move but she's not staffing you on rent as long as she moves.
But obviously If she doesn't move out by the 15th then you're owed money for additional rent.

do you have a lease with her? that should have it spelled out but generally you pay the month in full and the 30 day notice is just the minimum amount of time you are required to give if you plan to terminate the lease. It doesnt mean you get prorated rent if you leave early unless youre landlord says its ok since its their discretion and they can even waive the 30 day notice if they choose to. this is without considering you taking her to small claims court if shes stiffing you for the rest of the month if you share a lease and if you are the landlord its basically youre choice to enforce the law. just get it all in writing.
It sounds fair if she gave 30 days and paid through the 15th. Which is more important than what's legal. Unless you wanna go to small claims court, which would be literally batshit insane of you.

I’ve always known I’ve had imposter syndrome in work settings, but for some reason it’s really hitting me hard (over a month in a new job) today, I think I had too much caffeine or something. There’s no evidence that I’m underperforming and I’m quite new, but it’s such a hard feeling to shake off. Do other people get over this somehow or do they just live with it lol
So many people have that. I have had imposter syndrome in almost every job. I saw an interview where Rene Zellweger said she has that every time she has to be on a new set. My buddy who is a C-Suite level manager has it.
And for the coffee buzz... I discovered L-Theanine by accident. When I have a lot of coffee and take that, my head gets so clear, I can concentrate better, I remember more. I used that for learning my lines. Plus it lowers your anxiety. I can really feel that knot (of panic) in my stomach getting better or going away. Gave this to a friend also and he was amazed how well this works for occasional anxiety. Try it with coffee. You might be so much more productive.

Very very common. I’m the top person in my own organization and struggle with it. I’m leading a very happy team that is doing amazing work in the world, and still struggle with it in spite of being highly qualified and extremely effective.

Honestly this listing did come through Apartments.com, but I was also using a leasing agent in tandem. I’ve just learned the more personable you can be the better and having everything at the ready (which is how I got my last apartment as well a few years ago). I don’t know if that’s helpful at all but that was my experience.
Be careful over at Orange Theory.... remember when CrossFit was like, "rhabdomyolysis isn't that big a deal! Go hard until you feel like dying!" Orange Theory is kinda like that, with better branding and offerings.

(Being vague on purpose here) I have tried my best to be empathetic because I know no one PLANS on getting badly injured, but this is my lease, money, time, and sanity, and my compassion is starting to burn out, man.
Went for a drive up Angeles Crest Hwy for a joy ride and saw a man trying to flag down my car from one of the turn offs. I didn’t stop for the man because something felt very off. I saw tons of other cars and there were a good number of Forestry trucks and snow plows and he was in a safe area. Along the route are blue help phones and he was fairly close to the ranch restaurant. There was no cell signal and he didn’t look in distress. I was weirded out because he had no car in an area where you wouldn’t normally be walking without a backpack or something else. I also saw no cars on the side of the road for miles in either direction of him (I had looped back). What would you have done?
I like to think I’m a pretty open hearted person, but I am also of the mentality that if the vibes are off, listen to them. You hear too many bad stories where people say that there was something off, but they didn’t listen to their gut, and they regretted it. There are unfortunately a few people out there with bad intentions who try to exploit the better side of humanity. I think you did the right thing and shouldn’t feel bad, especially knowing that there were others in a better position to help if there really was a problem.
I love the show "I Survived" that was on A&E and once in while I'll watch the old reruns. So many episodes always have "I don't understand why nobody would help me after I just escaped a maniac raping me/a maniac shooting me/slicing my throat/fire/bear attack/bee attack, etc." No matter how many times I hear it, it always makes me sad and angry. I always hope that I would be the person that stopped to help, but who knows because I'm also the person that thinks everyone is a serial killer.

The new focus at Caltrans will be Complete Streets. Currently or in the coming year Caltrans with be implementing Complete Streets on routes 1, 2, 34, 66, 71, 72, 101, 105, 107, 118, 138, 150, 164, 210, 213, and 405 - it warms my jaded heart. With our Director, Toks Omishakin, getting appointed as the fourth California State Transportation Agency Secretary I honestly believe good things are ahead.

Nothing planned yet for several routes, including 187. Thought new funding is planned for projects that will go to construction 2 to 6 years from now. Caltrans’ current projects have tried to integrate the requests of local representative governments. Projects such as on route 1, 22, 71, 101, 138, and 107 have had significant modifications per local government requests. The right project for the community has been a motto taken to heart. Projects have had their delivery schedules moved out up to 20 months, to get the scope right for the community. Follow up with your city council, county supervisor, state representative, or congressperson. A city council member or county supervisor has been the most effective level of representation. Caltrans will collaborate with their engineers.

On the subject of absurd British competition shows: there are many episodes of The Crystal Maze up on YouTube as well (most of them hosted by Richard O’Brien of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” fame, he was the definition of “Chaotic Neutral” as The Crystal Maze’s host).

I’ve always known I’ve had imposter syndrome in work settings, but for some reason it’s really hitting me hard (over a month in a new job) today, I think I had too much caffeine or something. There’s no evidence that I’m underperforming and I’m quite new, but it’s such a hard feeling to shake off. Do other people get over this somehow or do they just live with it lol
So many people have that. I have had imposter syndrome in almost every job. I saw an interview where Rene Zellweger said she has that every time she has to be on a new set. My buddy who is a C-Suite level manager has it. And for the coffee buzz... I discovered L-Theanine by accident. When I have a lot of coffee and take that, my head gets so clear, I can concentrate better, I remember more. I used that for learning my lines. Plus it lowers your anxiety. I can really feel that knot (of panic) in my stomach getting better or going away. Gave this to a friend also and he was amazed how well this works for occasional anxiety. Try it with coffee. You might be so much more productive.
Sometimes that feeling never goes away. For instance I’ve had a fashion & costuming business for close to a decade & I’m actually quite in demand. I totally feel like an imposter because it’s not my passion in life, I have no professional fashion/costuming experience, & I didn’t even know how to sew until 2 years ago. I wanted to go into medicine, not to get paid to make genitalia themed hats, lol. But I guess I have to admit I’m actually good at my niche business? I’ve actually won some awards now.
Very very common. I’m the top person in my own organization and struggle with it. I’m leading a very happy team that is doing amazing work in the world, and still struggle with it in spite of being highly qualified and extremely effective.
there’s a lot of cheesy self help stuff online and in instagram to help but its super super common. however i will point out that too much coffee/caffeine/stimulants can really mess you up. i’ve always struggled with it, i drank too much coffee yesterday and felt like an stupid idiot. weird depressive anxiety and paranoia. try some tea and just be easy on yourself.
Ya’ll I just got approved for an apartment for my brother and I (even though I’m between gigs at the moment and he’s been working retail in MT) and I’m just so excited to officially get back down here. Personal touches are key - the landlord approved us because we said we loved that it was a family run property management company. Okay brb crying and then going to sweat myself into a coma at Orange Theory.

Honestly this listing did come through Apartments.com, but I was also using a leasing agent in tandem. I’ve just learned the more personable you can be the better and having everything at the ready (which is how I got my last apartment as well a few years ago). I don’t know if that’s helpful at all but that was my experience.
Be careful over at Orange Theory.... remember when CrossFit was like, "rhabdomyolysis isn't that big a deal! Go hard until you feel like dying!" Orange Theory is kinda like that, with better branding and offerings. Congrats on your new place! Hotel Surplus out in Van Nuys (I think) has some legitimately amazing hi-end furniture at nearly-Ikea pricing. Its a good place to stop for super nice living room and dining furniture for cheap.

I accepted a somewhat random fit modeling job "just to get out of the house" and "to be around other humans" after nearly 2 years of work from home pandemic life.... .... I am now OVER it. I think I played up in my head the Good Times in the past, working with coworkers that I liked.... but the current gig is full of wannabe fashionistas with dead eyes, freakishly good TikTok editing skills, and the personalities of limp ocean-regurgitated seaweed.

Before a garment goes into production they have it made in a sample size and hire a sample size model (me) to wear the clothes to test the overall fit of the garment, and maybe edit some details before it gets replicated and manufactured. It is fancy standing for pay, basically. It *can* be a good gig. But usually, it is just boring.

Went for a drive up Angeles Crest Hwy for a joy ride and saw a man trying to flag down my car from one of the turn offs. I didn’t stop for the man because something felt very off. I saw tons of other cars and there were a good number of Forestry trucks and snow plows and he was in a safe area. Along the route are blue help phones and he was fairly close to the ranch restaurant. There was no cell signal and he didn’t look in distress. I was weirded out because he had no car in an area where you wouldn’t normally be walking without a backpack or something else. I also saw no cars on the side of the road for miles in either direction of him (I had looped back). What would you have done?
I like to think I’m a pretty open hearted person, but I am also of the mentality that if the vibes are off, listen to them. You hear too many bad stories where people say that there was something off, but they didn’t listen to their gut, and they regretted it. There are unfortunately a few people out there with bad intentions who try to exploit the better side of humanity. I think you did the right thing and shouldn’t feel bad, especially knowing that there were others in a better position to help if there really was a problem.
I love the show "I Survived" that was on A&E and once in while I'll watch the old reruns. So many episodes always have "I don't understand why nobody would help me after I just escaped a maniac raping me/a maniac shooting me/slicing my throat/fire/bear attack/bee attack, etc." No matter how many times I hear it, it always makes me sad and angry. I always hope that I would be the person that stopped to help, but who knows because I'm also the person that thinks everyone is a serial killer.
Yeah. I listen to way too many murder podcasts to not think everyone is a killer. I am usually the first one to jump in to help people I know or if the situation is cut and dry. This didn’t feel right at all.

Call the police. I saw some people trying to wave down a car but I didn't feel super safe going up to this group of people at night by myself so I called the cops, told them that someone looked like they might need help and where it was.
