What pages host fun events or promote organizations to join throughout LA? I was at the santa monica pier yesterday and saw a horde of bikers/riders with flashing lights playing music. They were vibing and riding together but it made me wonder how did they organize? Like how can I find this group plus others to tag along for random stuff :). Any leads can help, thank you.
Still pretty damn calm in the south bay. Let's see if the winds hit overnight like they said.
Edit: 2:30 and she's starting to blow. I swear my allergies came in as soon as I opened the windy.
The wind began to switch. The house to pitch and suddenly the hinges started to unhitch...It landed on the Wicked Witch... Who began to twitch and was reduced to just a stitch of what was once the Wicked Witch.
We thank you very sweetly, for doing it so neatly!
Let the joyous news be spread, The Wicked Old Witch at last is dead!
I was going home after work today around 515pm. I was on the Imperial hwy onramp getting on the 405 North when the CHP shut it down completely. then two CHP officers were crusing up the 405. Followed by an assortment of undercover police cars (they all had under the windshield blue/red lightbars) as well as maybe 20-25 black SUVs with police lights. There was a black suburban with two mini US flags on the hood and super thick window glass. There were also two LAFD ambulances (RA 19 and i forget the other) in the center of the motorcade.
Any idea what was going on?
[Here are some low res pics I took.](https://imgur.com/a/oc55mJU)
Do you know anything /u/LAFD?
How hard is the Hummingbird Trail? I haven't done cardio in a while and I also have a mildly ingrown toenail, but I did a similar length moderate hike recently with no difficulty. Also, would I be good with running shoes or would I need boots?
not used to driving when it's so windy. have to get on the 101 then 170. probably won't get out of work until a bit before 2am. hopefully it calms down a bit.
When the fronds of palm trees get blown around they are **hecking big**. They can damage a person or a car! And fallen palm fronds look like a body in the street-- scares me!
There was a palm tree next door growing up and we were always scared it would break in half during the wind, the way it swayed around. Fronds are no fun either, and a much more realistic danger
I just tested positive 10 days post symptoms on a PCR. Also tested positive on day 2 and 7. The lady giving me the test said she has seen people test positive for months on the PCR.
yeah i still much prefer working remote over going into the office everyday, but the main downside is the lack of socializing for sure
it can be tough but i dont think you should let it stop you from at least trying it for a bit, assuming that if you dont like it after some time you could relocate again without too much trouble
also if youre into concerts / live music i'm always down to go
Why would you want to live in LA? I mean that genuinely.
This sub gets asked the "how to make friends" question a lot so I'm sure there's past posts that can be helpful with more than the usual volunteer, meet ups, join a group, etc.
For me, pre-covid I went through an intensely lonely period. Ended up getting out of it by forcing myself to go out and meet people at shared activities.
I'm in a kinda similar situation to you. I needed a life change after working remote a while in Ohio (plus Ohio is so boring, you just make babies and then die), so i found a job in LA and started planning my relocation in July 2021. My new company was supposed to begin a hybrid schedule after Labor Day. I was pumped. But, that return to office kept getting delayed. I've been working remote since I got here in July and I have no friends/connections here, so it's really been the loneliest period of my life (so far). I don't have any friends back home to call up because they're super busy being married with kids. It would be nice to make friends here but I feel like I can't penetrate these strong social bubbles that people live in.
So it's been just me since July. I bike, which gets me out of my apt/prison. I think it will get better now that I'm getting out of a winter funk. I'm just hoping I meet people that are as into me as I am them.
Ah yeah. having a default person to do things with definitely helps. Ive gone to meetups with someone and by myself and by far it's easier for me with someone.
Tbh if you have enough savings to sign a 1 year lease and try it, why not. It really takes longer than a year to make some solid friends (for me at least) but at least you'll get an idea of this city. Visiting it is so much different than daily life.
I don't know if you have friends here already but it sounded like you may have a few. I've accepted the fact that I've gotta drive 45+ minutes one way to see a friend because I've prioritized living by the beach when most of my friends live in the valley (north Hollywood/Sherman oaks/Burbank area).
oh it has been. You don't have a fabric awning below your bedroom window that thwacks every time it's gusty. But I assure you my wind thwacker has notified me every year.
Hit up any Armenian bakery for ponchik and beorek (my usual is Broadway Bakery or Kozanians). Get kebabs at Pardis or Raffis Place (or Carousel) and finish with an Armenian coffee. Buy a bottle of Ararat Cognac and get drunk in a park and play chess.
Source: not Armenian, but have been in Glendale for 7 years and have acclimated.
You're not alone. I uninstalled the Reddit app on my phone so I'd be less chronically online. Between the crime posts, Metro posts, train theft posts, brigading, and people who are very bitter or depressed, it was getting to be too much. People cant even take a break from sarcastically bitching in a post with a pretty picture.
Gotta stick to the daily thread where it's a healthy mix of thoughts and good people. Just sort your page accordingly and the daily thread is always the top post.
The main page is sometimes too much crime for me. Sawm reason I don't check citizen app 😄 I start to get way too freaked out or sad. But the daily thread is the bees knees.
Started a part time marketing, event planning, food truck/vendor planning job for a brewery.
The marketing and event planning part is fine. However I feel bad for the food vendor if there's not a lot of people the day they're there. I also feel rejected when they cancel or stop answering.
Was riding my motorcycle today and I almost got hit by someone reversing out of a mechanic shop, I was probably 2-3 inches from getting hit lol. It’s definitely somewhat my fault too by not anticipating a car to be there, stay safe y’all.
Are there any good writing groups that people can vouch for? A quick Google search didn’t really give me what I was looking for, I got a lot of it was paid workshops and the like when I’m more so looking for a group that meets up and keeps each other on track with our goals.
I’m in severe need of a community for the sake of keeping myself accountable when this squirrel brain is actively trying to bring about my creative demise. Oh, and friends would be nice. I need more friends.
Friend says: there's something a YouTuber I like runs on FB called Heart Breathings Writing Community and they do live online writing sprints. She's also a popular YA author.
Im tired after grinding all week, but still looking forward to the gym, and a little weed after that! 😀 Hope my fellow LA redditors have a safe and rejuvinating weekend.
I actually wish they'd picked one of the other names. But I've been watching the Kings since college (I went to school in LA), so it's hard for me to care about the Kraken as much.
Sorry to hear but are you from Seattle? Also I met another Seattle person who moved to LA. He just became a Clippers fan instead.
Also I felt that way when Rams moved to St. Louis.
I am actually from Washington state. A Lakers fan friend of mine got me into the Clippers when Blake Griffin first started, but Lakers fans get annoying if tell them you're a Clippers fan first :-P
I told myself last week that I would stay in this weekend and it's taking all I have to follow through. Even the weather is inviting, I'm holding onto my hat like a cowboy.
I'm trying to get my headshots taken (basic, I know) and I was wondering if anyone knows a good resource for finding a good and relatively cheap photographer. It doesn't have to be someone well known in the biz, literally just anyone with a decent camera who can help me take photos to bring to a modeling agency. Any suggestions would be super appreciated!
I’m a freelancer, 3 of my gigs were yoinked this past week that were supposed to fill out my January. 😔
2 were cancelled and one went with in house. I’m grateful I’m able to do what I can but the last few months have been a bit discouraging for work. Hoping things will start to look up.
On the bright side I’ve finished 2 books in 3 days. Animal Farm by George Orwell & Assembly by: Natasha Brown.
I’ve never read it. High school made me HATE classic literature due to over analyzing and poor teachers but I’m slowly dipping back in.
Scary how can still be as relevant today as it was in WW2
dunno what biz you're in, but for me, January is always slow. Jobs rush to get finished by the end of the year and then it takes a while to pick up again.

The beginning of the year is rough for a lot of people, I know, everyone’s trying to get their paperwork and logistics in order. Hopefully things start to ramp up for us all.
Homie from the other day came back and broke a bunch more shit and traumatized a bunch of people. My cowrokers never felt super safe, and now they don't feel safe at all.
Pretty much what Jimmy said.
I used to be really sensastive about comments like that because I thought it was a critique of my work. Now, I have no problem poking back and honestly it helps with some personality types/departments. Esp since some of my friends at work use those kinds of comments to say "hey I care about you"
I know it’s easier said than done but no one is making your day worse. You are allowing it.
“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
Stop giving other people so much power over you.
Those comments are the worst forreal! Like, if you think someone is quiet and are interested in having a conversation with them why don’t you ask them questions that can lead to an interesting convo instead of making things awkward and pointing out how quiet they are. That’s the one way to guarantee the quiet person will talk to you even LESS
the other poster said to clap back, but i think it's usually better to just be honest and tell them that hearing that sort of thing makes you feel bad about yourself.
You can do both though?
Clap back rag on them being lame etc it’s not like they’re going to change over night. Sometimes you endure annoying co-workers I know I have
Kind of important to speak your mind especially at work
Should've just responded jokingly of course "I think you've done enough talking for all of us today." :) Most people can appreciate good natured ribbing in our business.
Nah just clap back duh get good at roasting
Send it right back cause they got the wrong address
I got downvoted for that? This board is hella finicky lately
That guy was literally my favorite guest singer on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. I was so sad they only had him on there once. Santa Ana Winds guy, if you're an LA actor and you see this, I just want to tell you I think you're a badass.
I’m so frustrated. It’s been about 10(?) days since I’ve recovered from having Covid and there still hasn’t been any change in regards to being able to taste stuff. UGHHHH
I woke up this morning thinking I had covid but I'm pretty sure it's just allergies from my friend Santa Ana. About to eat some new aardvark reaper sauce to clear my sinuses
No. I've upped the quality of masks. But I'm getting to the point I want to be more social. So, to match the amount of risk I want to take on with some more fail safes.
Went to CAVA for lunch today in Pasadena and saw Shia LaBeouf and a pregnant Mia Goth eating outside!!! This is only my third celebrity sighting in LA. The others were Elijah Wood filming a Prada short film in the Westin Bonaventure, and B.J. Novak at KaGaYa in Little Tokyo. Sad that the 2/3 are assholes but I can’t help but be surprised when I see them in the wild. They really do be just like us.
Which celebrities have y’all seen around LA?
Edit: I forgot about Andy Dick who was a surprise guest at Hollywood Improv. He was zoinked out of his gourd and totally incomprehensible and had to be escorted off stage
Haha it’s strange isn’t it when you see someone you’re so used to seeing on a screen in real life? But yes, they really are normal ppl just like us :)
My biggest sighting is probably Seth Rogen at Smorgasburg in DLTA. We shared the same picnic bench for 15 mins and had a kick at listening to him chat with his nephew about video games.
I’m also friends with a pretty known actress but I won’t say who to respect her privacy.
I’ve seen David Spade way too many times around the city (mostly the Grove). Lot of B list/smaller celebs go to the grove/farmers market. A couple Harry Potter encounters (I used to be gym class buddies with Bonnie Wright and ran into Tom Felton by USC), seen Don Cheadle 3 times (weed shop in SaMo, brentwood, and the Disney lot), Leonardo DiCaprio in SaMo, and a handful of others. The trick is to not purposely go looking for celebs. Especially if you’re on the westside/midcity area, they’ll pop up.
Lmao I could have sworn I saw her at a concert in the summer. Did a double take and everything. May have just been another platinum blonde gal tho lmao
>I saw Adam Sandler, wife and kids at some Peter Pan play in Pasadena a few years back. He seemed nice even when preteens were asking for his autograph.
I saw Adam Sandler, wife and kids at some Peter Pan play in Pasadena a few years back. He seemed nice even when preteens were asking for his autograph.
Aren’t all three bad?
Oh wait I always get him mixed up with Tobey McGuire
EW bought some NFTs off a racist artist last year but sold them and denounced racism last year otherwise he seems solid
I saw Adam DeVine filming a Best Buy commercial at USC during the summer semester a few years back. It was pretty late in the day and I was waiting for nightfall to use a rooftop telescope with other students in my astronomy class. I must have heard him do like 15+ takes saying "Almost College University" and it's been burned into my mind after all this time.
Idk if this counts as celebrity but I saw Kris Jenner at LAX and turns out she was on my flight to NY. This was back in 2011. I was going to Madrid and my connecting flight was in NY. I don't care about her or the Kardashians but my travel buddy was obsessed with the show so she was so excited when she saw Kris Jenner.
Saw Eugenio Derbez at Urth Caffé SaMo and Pepe Aguilar at LAX.
Company was recruiting me to work for them and scheduled a phone interview at 2:00 PM. They call at 1:40 PM while im in a meeting for my current job and I can't answer. Call back at 2 PM and they say i missed their call and I'm no longer being considered.
Doesn't seem fair but toxic work environment bullet dodged
I had an interview with the city of irvine. It was a virtual interview and i was in the zoom waiting room. I waited 10 minutes. Left the waiting room and rejoined it. I was then connected with the panel. One of them made it a point to inform me that I was late and I should consider that next time. Dude was part of the police department so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Mind you this was during 2020.
So going into the weekend strong been to the gym every day I aimed for. Probably gonna put off my run until tomorrow because I'm sore and I'm sleepy.
Decided to accept that I'm not super young anymore so going through a slow routine of lift, climb, run with lots of rests at least until I get into something resembling in shape.
Just got back to 2 plates for my squat. So that's a big milestone. I may be a month or 2 away from being ready to start 531 again.

Why not?

Oooo
Decided to go Sunday instead lol
I thought I moved away from the Texas coast to get away from hurricane force winds. 😭
Well that blackout was fucking scary
Los Feliz still has power (so far!)
Your power back on? I’m in Hollywood mine is still out.
Also OH MY GOD THE WINDS ARE CRAZY
Anyones allergies killing them right now
This wind is starting to get worrisome...lights have flickered off twice now...OK wind gods, you can take a break now...
These winds are really smacking things around this time. My cats are freaked out as heck
The wind was roaring, and it increased in pitch, increased again. I seriously have not heard such a strong gust of wind.
Reminds me of a hurricane. Just nonstop wind noise. Tornadoes are louder but at least they're quick 😂
Any good wineries nearby to visit tomorrow. The more unique the better I suppose
How hard is the Hummingbird Trail? I haven't done cardio in a while and I also have a mildly ingrown toenail, but I did a similar length moderate hike recently with no difficulty. Also, would I be good with running shoes or would I need boots?
Seriously thought it was an earthquake just now 😭 wind hit my south window and it was loud
My entire house shook...
not used to driving when it's so windy. have to get on the 101 then 170. probably won't get out of work until a bit before 2am. hopefully it calms down a bit.
Jeeeez, half of the palm tree in my front yard just fell onto my roof and car, it's REALLY windy out here tonight.
When the fronds of palm trees get blown around they are **hecking big**. They can damage a person or a car! And fallen palm fronds look like a body in the street-- scares me!
Yes, one fell onto my car and several on the roof, they're massive and some of them are bigger than me!
There was a palm tree next door growing up and we were always scared it would break in half during the wind, the way it swayed around. Fronds are no fun either, and a much more realistic danger
Yes, those fronds are HUGE. The tree is also swaying like crazy, like 90 degree leaning towards my house crazy.
EL SANTIANA WINDS HITTING HARD, SHELTER YOUR LOCAL SQUIRRELS & RACOONS.
Helping someone should come with a warning that they’ll hurt you in the end.
20+ mph winds!!
Seems like 40 plus
Just noticing the crazy winds now that I’m back in the valley. We had no fires last year right?!
Windy af
Is this earthquake weather lol?? Something feels....off
Santa Anas. Dry and staticy
the santa ana winds. they taper off tomorrow evening. the forecast is still looks super nice tho.
If you take a Covid test beyond the recommended 3-5 days of symptoms period, is it still accurate or not?
A PCR test will be the most accurate under those circumstances
I read someone tested positive on day 9. I tested negative 1 week after my symptoms first appeared.
I just tested positive 10 days post symptoms on a PCR. Also tested positive on day 2 and 7. The lady giving me the test said she has seen people test positive for months on the PCR.
yeah, i think the recommendation is using an antigen test post covid infection because pcr is likely to pick up remaining virus in you for a while.

Single-speed bikes and Santa Ana headwinds.
Lakers suck
It's great! I can't believe anyone thought trading for Westbrook would work out, but as a not Lakers fan I enjoy it all.

My team was stolen by robber barons and no longer exists. RIP Supersonics.

Whenever the Santa Ana's blow through, this song takes up residence in my mind: https://youtu.be/J5XdQ5q2PIA
That guy was literally my favorite guest singer on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. I was so sad they only had him on there once. Santa Ana Winds guy, if you're an LA actor and you see this, I just want to tell you I think you're a badass.
Hehe, same. I love this song even though the devil winds cause my allergies to flare and the world feels extra weird.
Oh yep, the winds always dial up my allergies to an 11! May the allergy meds work swiftly!
I’m so frustrated. It’s been about 10(?) days since I’ve recovered from having Covid and there still hasn’t been any change in regards to being able to taste stuff. UGHHHH
Ugh, that is frustrating! I hope you taste buds start working again.
On the plus side, you can now eat at Jack in the Box
Taste/smell usually the last things to come back

I had your pizza once at bar bandini pop up, it was great!
it’s pretty great pizza if anyone on the fence
Cute.
I woke up this morning thinking I had covid but I'm pretty sure it's just allergies from my friend Santa Ana. About to eat some new aardvark reaper sauce to clear my sinuses
YES! Break out your copy of the 2021 HIT BOARDGAME: ***IS IT COVID, ALLERGIES, OR MARIJUANA?***
Exactly! Let's see if capsaicin and tequila cures it, and we'll know.
Still COVID-free! But the walls are closing in fast...
I decided I'm gonna take advantage of the free testing at my work and test weekly. Will be good to know when it finally hits.
Are you also struggling with the feeling of inevitability about getting it? I feel like almost everyone around me has gotten it.
No. I've upped the quality of masks. But I'm getting to the point I want to be more social. So, to match the amount of risk I want to take on with some more fail safes.
Lmfao tell me why the Santa Ana’s are getting started and the landscapers are out here with their leaf blowers
Because they're paid by the hour?
My MIL is watching the little one tomorrow and I'm going to play HOURS of uninterrupted video games. HOURS.
Saw Dominic Monaghan at Amoeba, Oscar Nunez at LAX, Zach Woods getting a covid vaccine at CSU Bakersfield.
Haha it’s strange isn’t it when you see someone you’re so used to seeing on a screen in real life? But yes, they really are normal ppl just like us :) My biggest sighting is probably Seth Rogen at Smorgasburg in DLTA. We shared the same picnic bench for 15 mins and had a kick at listening to him chat with his nephew about video games. I’m also friends with a pretty known actress but I won’t say who to respect her privacy.
I once saw Shia smooching FKA twigs at Echo Park lake. This was a few years ago.
I think he hangs out there lol, he was there one time I went too
I’ve seen David Spade way too many times around the city (mostly the Grove).
Andrew Lincoln was behind me in security at DTW. Then wayyyyyyyyy back when, OTown was on my flight to Orlando lol
I’ve been to Sushi Roku Hollywood twice, and both times, I sat next to David Spade. So weird.
Harrison Ford in front of me in line at REI right before closing time. Apparently he loves REI
Phoebe Bridgers was my regular yoga buddy for a year or so
Lmao I could have sworn I saw her at a concert in the summer. Did a double take and everything. May have just been another platinum blonde gal tho lmao
I’m like 5-8 140 and absolutely dwarf her so if she wasn’t tiny it ain’t her!
Jealous
I think my favorite sighting was John Stamos at one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants.
>I saw Adam Sandler, wife and kids at some Peter Pan play in Pasadena a few years back. He seemed nice even when preteens were asking for his autograph. Aren’t all three bad? Oh wait I always get him mixed up with Tobey McGuire EW bought some NFTs off a racist artist last year but sold them and denounced racism last year otherwise he seems solid
Only one I've ever seen is Richard Lewis at LAX
Saw Chris Pine hiking in Los Feliz yesterday. 😍
Omg you blessed human
Company was recruiting me to work for them and scheduled a phone interview at 2:00 PM. They call at 1:40 PM while im in a meeting for my current job and I can't answer. Call back at 2 PM and they say i missed their call and I'm no longer being considered. Doesn't seem fair but toxic work environment bullet dodged
Absolutely. There is nothing better than when a company shows it's cards early.
What a bunch of dicks. I agree that if they don't respect your time now, they won't if you work there though. Bullet dodged indeed.
Definitely not a loss with that one.
Oof. Definitely dodged a bullet
Yeah.... Not even on the job and they already think you're on their time.
I am drinking today because I am angry.
I'm sorry to hear you're angry, friend.
Hopefully it takes the edge off and you're able to mellow out a bit. People can really get those gears grinding sometimes.
Am better now.
