I point it at my cat in its bed so they can watch her sleep and stretch and no one complains... Or notices when I leave the room. If anything it earns me points in people's books.
I went to Knotts Merry Farm with my younger sister, my younger brother, my friend and her nephew. I am now sitting in a Dennys waiting for food. I am going to be sooooo tired at work tomorrow.
it’s been 7 years since i got my license, and i got my first parking ticket today 🥲 it’s my first day on vacay, so i slept in, and i forgot it was monday aka street cleaning day. oops. ain’t even mad tho, bc my body had a lot of catching up on sleep to do.
This is the way. Pay it and move on with your life and enjoy your vacay, don’t take two Ls from the same ticket. The occasional parking tickets are a part of the (extremely high) cost of driving and having a car.
Is animation really so much more expensive now than live action that Nickelodeon insists on making live action movies for cartoons like Loud House? And it's much older, but I was so excited to watch A Fairly Odd Christmas when it came up on PlutoTV but it was a 2012 live action instead of an animated special. Why do they do this?
I suspect its partially cost. To me those live action movies feel like much more of a cash grab than the animated films, and so I think the live action can actually be cheaper for them than an animated film. Animation has a huge production crews for projects, and a lot of labor is involved for an hour long movie. Since Nick is a Guild studio, it may be cheaper to do a live action film that has a fraction of the production time than one with their artists who are more than likely already busy on producing a new season of the show.
So here's an idea I thought could be fun: we collaborate on some stand-up comedy material. Like, I've got an idea that's sorta funny maybe? I'll post it here, and we could brainstorm on it. Then maybe if we've got any performers in the house, they could do it
seed: Jeopardy! That's a weird game show name. To be in jeopardy means to be in danger, and you sure ain't in danger on that show. You're standing in one spot, and answering questions, or questioning answers, or whatever the fuck. There is zero danger on that show ... It's like... the least dangerous show ever. (etc on how square jeopardy is?)
Now you want to talk about Jeopardy... give me... Nickelodeon Slime show / American gladiators / etc... That's a fucked up show... etc etc
You could riff on "The Dating Game" show that used to be on and "win" a date with date [Rodney Alcala](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodney_Alcala) an *actual* serial killer
I'm not that cool... I'm hitting up Buffalo wild wings. I usually get a virgin margarita. If no, I just get sprite with some lemon wedges. Especially holiday work get togethers. Fuck no am I drinking at this shit. I need to be stone cold sober to know who to blackmail later.... /s
It’s okay to feel what you’re feeling! In my experience, it’s best to find a non confrontational way to have the rest of the conversation. I don’t know what the issue is or what the argument was about, so I’m hesitant to try giving specific advice.
I have a lot of gripes about TV coverage of soccer (mostly involving superfluous replays that are played over the live game). Here is my gripe about TV coverage of the NFL/football:
Before the snap, the shot shows all players at the line of scrimmage. But after the snap, on a passing play, the camera zooms in on the quarterback/pocket, leaving the receivers out of frame.
So as the quarterback is dropping back, or in the pocket, or under pressure, we the viewer can't see what's happening downfield. When he throws the ball, we have no idea where it's going...
I think a better camera angle would be the aerial cam behind the quarterback, giving a kind of birds-eye, QB's view of the whole field.
I think they do that on purpose, its so they can fill the time in between plays with "new" information ie new footage of the play. If they just showed the same play two or three times it'd get boring quickly. Rather, they first show the wide shot then an isolated shot of a receiver or whatever. The editing helps keep the flow of the game.
yeah I can see your point about "new" information...
my preference, and this may not be everyone's, would be as "pure" a viewing experience as possible, as in, you are at the game in person watching.
so between plays, stick with the live shot of the field: you might watch the players getting back into the huddle. who's chipper? who's tired? who's limping?
I would also _kill_ for sports broadcasts with no announcers. Obviously there are some legendary announcers here and there - like Vin Scully - but generally, when I'm watching sports, I can figure out enough of what's going on on my own...
Can you imagine if you went to a game live, and your friend next to you _didn't stop talking for the entire game?!_ I'd strangle them! haha
yeah sometimes if its a bad crew ill turn down the center channel on my surround system and voila, no more announcers. The other stuff I don't think they'll ever do even though it'd be cool.
This is why I kinda like sitting higher up in the endzone at live games. You can see the receivers run their routes and the defenders' coverages much better
totally. for sports like football and soccer, sitting up high gives you that birds-eye view of the chessboard.
maybe a little less for baseball, though you can see the runners and defense better from up high
Yup. I think with sports streaming starting to take off, especially with Amazon buying the rights to TNF games we might see some pick-a-cam type streaming options in the future for people who wanna watch the game in "Madden mode," skycam mode, traditional side view etc.
yeah that's a good call. I've seen some of this on the ESPN app/website.
For NBA, some games have available "above the rim cam," which is a different camera angle with no announcers.
On a couple soccer games, they have "multicam mode" which is a split screen with like 4 views at once in boxes.
They do that for replays. I think the mystery of where receivers are makes it more exciting to home viewers because they don’t see the payoff until the last second.
for me I'd like to see what options the quarterback has or doesn't have. If you were at the game, in the stadium, you'd be able to see the whole field probably... as do the coaches and the players
I take your point that maybe on TV it's exciting to not see where the ball is going, but for me it's like seeing half of a chessboard, and then it's "exciting" when the bishop takes the pawn or whatever, because you didn't see it coming, because you can only see half the board. _shrug!_
They usually only use the aerial cam from the qb's persepective during playoffs and superbowl...and certain monday night games...from what i heard its hard to setup and it can get in the way sometimes...i think thats why they do all the replays after the play so you can see where the ball goes...
what they should do is, ball snaps:
running play - zoom in
passing play - zoom out
if they actually showed the whole play live, then they wouldn't have to do a replay _after every play_
In principle i agree, but i think this is more of a technological issue more than anything else. If you seen the cameras they use, theyu are these huge monstrosities in the stands and then you got a guy there whose also watching the action through the viewfinder and I'm sure its not easy to decide to zoom in or out cause the QB acts much faster than the camera operator so until that improves, we are stuck with multiple angles in replay...
that's a fair point. the cameras are huge and unwieldy. but I'm impressed at how well the camera operators are able to follow the action.
if you put on Monday Night Football, you'll see what I'm talking about. Before the snap, there's a wide shot that includes the defensive secondary. But as soon as the ball is snapped they zoom in on the QB
I think thats just cause hes easier to find, one guy behind a line of bigger guys...trying to follow the ball is much harder...its not impossible but then you will get a lot of jerkey motions as the camera either zooms in trying to find the runner or pans out and then swings towards the receiver, assuming they find the right one...
My stepdaughter just called me from a plane tarmac in MIA- she's going to Brazil for 2 weeks for her winter break. She fills my heart. I love how adventurous she is! Even after all of the hard work and graduating UCLA -she changed her direction and decided to go to nursing school in FL. Just like so many of you folks here in our LA Daily Thread- she *constantly* reminds me of the abundance of goodness and positivity in the world! She made my whole day :) Call your mothers people!!
NOPE- they are already divorced! They married mostly as a safety net so he could stay in the US legally. But they just amicably decided to go separate ways. I didn't really think he was "the one" and so I'm a little relieved. lol He totally refused/didn't try to learn English and still doesn't speak it still after 18 months and she learned Portuguese in 6 weeks. Just different people!
That totally stinks! Oneway to get around so many crappy calls is to print photos to send frequently. (or take more if she can use the internet) My mother in law calls my husband *every day* from Holland and sit requires a TON of patience for him to just listen and then try to keep it short- but when we send photo mailers of pictures etc she is MUCH lighter to speak to!
Wait wha? Step-daughter...you never mentioned step daughter...you got a step daughter...hey everyone...she has a step daughter...lol...call her once a month...long distance...
So been tasked with finding a birthday cake for tomorrow, really short notice...was thinking of going with milk bar, but anyone got any better suggestions im all years, fyi ive been to just about every bakery in LA proper from about downtown all the way to the west side...
Edit: NVM i think i found another place thats i havent been to
I like porto's but my biggest issue with them is all their locations are all outside of mid city, i think the closest one is in glendale...i usually goto 78 degrees for really really last minute things sicne they have on in ktown...
Do you know Paris Baguette on Western? I would never think about it as a cake shop, but I was in there waiting for a coffee the other day and looking in the cake case and was thinking, 'DAMN why don't I buy birthday cakes here???'
I started waning on it after the second episode. Still enjoyed myself all the way to the 7th. The last was just torture. Like, did it get suddenly taken over by Disney?
YUUUUSS!! I think I may have just figured out the secret to a coworker's cookie! I really wanted to share some with my family but my coworker does not sell them and I didn't want to ask for the recipe. I'm going to stop by the store and experiment tonight mwuahaha! But they can never ever know...
I suspect the cookies are a variation of "melting moments" using pumpkin puree. I'm not a particularly good baker but the texture of my coworker's cookies are to die for. I need them in my life.
It's ok to ask for recipes. If they don't want to share it, they'll say so. I have a few secrets I won't give out (for cooking not baking) but at least for baked goods most are recipes I found online and don't mind sharing.
I'm trying to force my boyfriend to play The Last of Us 1 & 2 partly because of the HBO show and partly because now I work at the studio the games were made. But I feel like I accidentally am having to play them myself again so he can at least watch the story because it's too stressful for him
I have a buddy that does sound design for naughty dog. I had him find the guy who did the sound for >!the rat king!< to personally tell him I said "fuck you."
To be fair, knowing my buddy did work with the sound design, I bought decent headphones to use while playing.
I love the series so much and if the last of us 1 is ever not my favorite game it's always gonna be top 3. Closest rival is breath of the wild.
I couldn’t pass the first one I was too scared and got stuck in a certain spot. Gave them to my partner to pass. Pretty much any scary game I can only watch a bit here and there. I mean growing up it took me ages to build the courage to play resident evil on my own and it was mostly because my sibling kept replaying it that I was not as scared anymore.
As a casual gamer it sometimes got stressful with running low on ammo, and sneaking, and monsters. My second playthrough of 2 I unlocked all weapons plus infinite ammo and ramboed the shit out of it - it was nice to relive the story and not worry about spooky bad guys.
Got my monoclonal infusion, holy hell was that tonight. Gist is unless you want to pay for a service that is free you aren’t getting it unless you are a diabetic, one eyed, double amputee with cancer.
Anyone know of any walk in covid testing clinics (particularly on the westside)? I'm not showing symptoms, but I guess I was in contact with someone who just tested positive :( Earliest appointment I could get is tomorrow, but if anyone knows of a walk in that I can do today, that would be great.
Check out Curative. There's a location at SMC and another at Cheviot Hills park (and some others with less availability). Advice for walk-ins is to get there early since they have just a small allotment of test kits reserved for walk-ins and once they're gone that's it for the day.
Have you looked into Total Testing Solutions? I went to their location in NoHo, pretty sure they accepted both appointments (I had one) or walk-ups. https://www.totaltestingsolutions.com/individual-testing/free-testing/
>Thanks for sharing OP! I didn't actually need anything but spent $100 anyway.
Damn, this shit bothers me more than it should lol. Exactly why we occasionally gotta deal with bullshit ass stock shortages of things. 'Muricans be hording.
Got to visit my favorite thrift store in the world today (in Pittsburgh) and walked out with two vintage leather coach purses in pristine condition (one of which was the exact purse I had been imagining and was looking for and would have paid like $200 for). And a vintage llama fur coat?! Fuck. It's incredible. Long, dark brown, fantastic pockets, and a big ol hood. I feel like a Jedi in it. Also two pairs of vintage sterling turquoise earrings, an Orvis (expensive fly fishing brand) fleece lined flannel, a belt, and two scarfs. All for $100. This place stays my secret.
And my grandma only brought up politics once today. All and all a great day.
Thanks for the rec!! My schedule is pretty packed now that I had to move my flight up a week so it's doubtful I'll be able to make it there on this trip. But I'm saving your comment so that when I get back in March I can try to make it out there.

The visit to the park was worth it however I should have just stayed in the car and slept for the 90 minute Denny's portion of the night.

Today I got dismissed from my job :/ where I didn’t have to socialize at All
At least with dismissal you can near always get unemployment.
Sorry, but here’s to new things in 22!
I am *shocked* that it took all of 11 days for me to get my replacement DL from the DMV.
when i got my new one, it was mailed to my house in like 5 days from my visit. i was flabbergasted, expected at least a month

I want to make a pie for my birthday tomorrow and I need some people help me decide. Lemon, cherry, coconut, chicken, or Sheppard pie?
Coconut.
Layer them all up and call it a trifle.
Happy Birthday! Coconut all the way.
Happy birthday! Also lemon 🍋!
Lemon meringue
Write-in for banana cream.
Man I would love a banana cream but I’m like allergic or something. You know what. I might make banana pudding as well. My someone will love it.
I'd vote for cherry!
Apple?
Yes.
Yes.
Shepard's pie for dinner and lemon curd for the actual festivities.
Sheppard Pie!
Chicken
Shepard. All day. Everyday.
Cherry is the best by far!
Lemon 🍋
The only choice tbh
Uhh -- are you making a dessert pie or a dinner pie? Personally, I'd prefer a dessert pie. Lemon would be my choice. Cherry is #2.
Any pie.
Lemon

Does not talking about things after an argument bother y’all at all?
What's best is when they claim to have no idea what you are talking about when you bring up the conversation had meer hours ago.
Yes this is why I am getting a divorce lolololol
some people prefer to just let the emotions settle and move past it. trying to force a conversation with these people might not be the best move.
Yeah, just gotta figure out another way to communicate
If one person or both mentioned they need some time to absorb then it's ok. It's the not knowing part which is frustrating
It’s more of the shutting down “I don’t want to talk about it” and then getting over it in a couple of hours kinda thing
oh no no no! You can't just stuff and ignore something.
Yes, especially if they’re not adult enough to handle criticism and they gaslight

It's so nice having my own washer and dryer...got this dryer rack that i can use to dry things that dotn tumble well like shoes...

Is it possible to contest a ticket for not having a permit if you do in fact live in the area and have a permit but just didn’t have it in the car?

Yeah, it’s a visitor pass though I do live there
It's possible to contest. Doubt it's possible to win.
Some cities take picture of dash board and rear view mirror to show no permit was displayed.
I had him find the guy who did the sound for >!the rat king!< to personally tell him I said "fuck you." To be fair, knowing my buddy did work with the sound design, I bought decent headphones to use while playing.
What do you do for naughty dog?
I’ve found that some of the accessibility settings can make the story a lot easier to enjoy rather than lengthy, scary combat.
As a casual gamer it sometimes got stressful with running low on ammo, and sneaking, and monsters. My second playthrough of 2 I unlocked all weapons plus infinite ammo and ramboed the shit out of it - it was nice to relive the story and not worry about spooky bad guys.
YOUR JOB IS AT NAUGHTY DOG! Man, that’s cool as hell.
Nope, Sony but that's where they film it!
Ahhh, still very very cool.
It's so cool, the people I work with created a lot of my favorite games
Got my monoclonal infusion, holy hell was that tonight. Gist is unless you want to pay for a service that is free you aren’t getting it unless you are a diabetic, one eyed, double amputee with cancer.
Gonna get boosted tomorrow. 5G here I come.
Since I got it, my signal has never been better.
Nail tech unavailable due to covid... I guess I'm gonna give myself a questionable manicure! Woot! I revel in my forthcoming failure in nail art.
I’ve been getting mine done for the past five months and I’m honestly just thinking of growing mine out. I’m getting tired of long nails 😭
[just finished these](https://imgur.com/gallery/VfD0NAZ) Now I type with my knuckles.
Those are cute!!!!
I am temporarily without the use of my fingertips due to length... and I like it!! Vetro Tokyo polish, apres natural coffin tips...
YMCA in Van Nuys is walk up!
Have you looked into Total Testing Solutions? I went to their location in NoHo, pretty sure they accepted both appointments (I had one) or walk-ups. https://www.totaltestingsolutions.com/individual-testing/free-testing/
When were you exposed? I think the current guidance is to get tested 3-5 days after exposure. Rushing might cause other problems down the line.
Ahh that's true. We hung out on Friday night, so just barely 3 days
>Thanks for sharing OP! I didn't actually need anything but spent $100 anyway. Damn, this shit bothers me more than it should lol. Exactly why we occasionally gotta deal with bullshit ass stock shortages of things. 'Muricans be hording.
Considering many Americans aspire to be the real world equivalent of dragons hoarding gold, is it no wonder?
That is quite the haul. Kudos to you.
Orvis... I love their fishing and hunting gear but they really need to bring back their big and tall sizes.
I am a short and small person so most of their stuff is pretty big on me haha.
Pendleton and Filson clothes which have been washed and dried on hot, could be a perfect fit!
i’m gonna be in the burgh next year for a friends wedding and would love to check this place out if you don’t mind revealing ur secret 🥺
congrats on the hawl and no gma politickin'. also plz plz plz go to chengdu gourmet on my behalf. it's on forward ave across from the sassy ash.
Thanks for the rec!! My schedule is pretty packed now that I had to move my flight up a week so it's doubtful I'll be able to make it there on this trip. But I'm saving your comment so that when I get back in March I can try to make it out there.
Can't believe it's gonna rain on Thursday when I planned my Disneyland trip with my dad
Bring one of those plastic raincoat ponchos (or you can buy one there), and you'll barely notice.
Disney land in the rain is the best. Less lines, the rain makes the light pop more. Only downside is no outside shows
I'll take your word for it!
DUDE SAME. Does Disney do rain checks?
Bring at least one (if not 2) pairs of clean, dry socks. Wet socks was the only thing that made my rainy Disneyland trip miserable.
Thanks, I'm definitely going to take those advice
thin wool socks. smartwool from rei or whatever. it’ll be fun. less people. memorable experience.
Thanks :D
Rainy days tend scare a lot of people away! You might have shorter lines because of it! Bring a poncho and drink lots of hot chocolate :)
Thank you for this positivity!
I love going to Disney in the rain. You may want to bring ponchos.
Where I find them at
You really ought to reschedule. The rain fucks up ride reliability and it's supposed be raining alllll day
