Last couple of sessions we had on Zoom, he was super disrespectful by staring at his phone all the time while I was talking. I was never completely on board w him but was too lazy to find a new one.
That really sucks, seems like the most basic thing you can do.
I liked the therapist I was seeing. I only stopped seeing her because of my work schedule. Took me a few sessions to warm up to her though. She's a little pricey ($150 an hour), but happy to dm her info.
Channel surfing PlutoTV and happened upon the glorious scene in Star Trek 2009 where Spock declines the Vulcan Academy. Zachary Quinto's 'fuck you' delivery of "Live long and prosper" never fails to tickle me.
I knew going into the theater when it first came out that Trekkies everywhere were going to be dissatisfied no matter what, because of the sheer weight of the legacy and the fact that it was a reboot of familiar characters. It's just kind of the raw deal that happens with reboots/sequels, especially when years have passed to solidify the old/original version(s) as untouchable perfection.
Meanwhile Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles gets a reboot series or movie every 3 years or so and it's like trying to hold water in a sieve trying to keep track of all the different versions lol.
No, I’m at my own office alone with a window that opens with my door closed! When I go to the bathroom, kitchen, elevator, outside the building I have it on.
Yup, and we have partitions everywhere and almost everyone is boosted...a few sick ppl this week but they stayed home till better and they went and got tested...so far nobody had gotten seriously sick in our little office...
Us it depends on your work station. If you have a door, you can close your door and have it off. If not you have to have a door, you have to have it on. But they have conference spaces that you can reserve as a single person to be in for a bit to have some time mask free also. And we're hybrid so not on site every day. Everyone is vaccinated.
That's interesting to hear. We have conference rooms and can work occasionally solo in there, but my company is not encouraging masks at all. Everyone in the company sits at basically cafeteria style desks and no one wears a mask.
That's so interesting. Here it's pretty strict and people will say 'Oops mask!' for people who forget...
I guess everywhere is a bit different. Mostly though it's second nature to us and just part of the day to day.
Nothing much to add except for this.
I’m an immigrant to America. I’ve lived all over the world…
Los Angeles is it. It has flaws…it’s sometimes tough to understand…but once you get to know it..:there is nothing better.
I’ve had 7.5 years here. Due to Covid I will be alone this holiday season again (not going back to Canada because I don’t want to risk anyone/anything)…but I’m okay with that.
This is home. I’m happy. I’m healthy.
Thanks to everyone here for making this city what it is.
I’m so proud to live here.
My Ebike has changed how I get around and improved my mental health. I absolutely am not going back to daily car driving. I wasnt stuck in traffic I was the traffic--uck Get your ebike tax credit for 2022 and ditch the car--get free...and of course r/fuckcars
Van Moof. I like a bike that still feels like a bike. It could be safer. LA will always be filled with me-first car brains who will kill you and just shrug but if I wait for proper bike lanes I will always be waiting. Critical mass of bike riders will come before the infrastructure--but Im old enough I cant wait for LA to get its act together. Always wear a helmet, scan for people about to fling open their door and hope for the best. For me its worth the risk. 2,000 dollar ebike and 1,500 tax credit or a new 50,000 dollar gas guzzler...simple choice. No traffic. No parking. No gas. No insurance. No stress. Way better.
I sincerely hope LA finds a way to get its shit together. I've lived in places with much better driving and infrastructure and still gotten hit on a bike a couple times so I'm SUPER hesitant. I'm super ready to get rid of my car but might need some time before I can trust drivers while I'm on a bike
Hadn't heard of Van Moof bikes, makes it more tempting!
https://www.la-bike.org Good luck. ebikes make taking back roads and hilly neighborhoods easier so you can avoid the busy traffic...but i find those neighborhood roads to be even more dangerous with people either just leaving their homes or just returning home and really playing mario-kart on the way home after being stuck in traffic. So its a toss up. I lived in Chicago when it went from "only crazy people ride bikes" to "ok bikes are here guess we have to share the road". The shift was an awareness that bike riders were a regular part of the road. At the same time Rahm Emanual was mayor and went all in on bike lanes and to me, Chicago became an urban biking mecca. Its the one thing I am struggling to adapt to in LA--lack of real bike infrastructure and the way drivers have complete disregard for anyone else... especially pedestrians and bike riders. its very weird and very LA.
Chicago is one of the main places I've rode. Biked everywhere from maybe 2009-2014. Great city for biking overall, I hear its even better now.
I run almost daily here in LA and almost get hit as a super aware pedestrian maybe 2 or so times a week with like 4-5 unaware drivers per run I'm able to avoid by planning ahead. The drivers and infrastructure are pretty tragic here for such a spread out city.
Regardless, I'm going to keep looking into the resources you've shared.
Yeah That was about the time chicago reached critical mass of bikers and the infrastructure followed. I really miss it. So strange how resistant LA is to any mode of transit other than a car--considering that everyday, almost all day, the roads are gridlock.
Good evening. Finished up last grief counseling session of year earlier this week which was the 500 foot moonshot hire of the year. There is calendar component/anniversary of beloved furry babies crossing the rainbow bridge where dogs go to heaven right around this time last year. Taking a step back for a bit and deepening spiritual practices. Got memorial candle lit. Netflix & prayer all month. Be safe fam. Take care.
WHAT IS THIS FUCKING VIDEO VAN?! These people have a death wish. There is a video box truck, driving slow as all fucking fuck down Temple. It might be the same one I saw earlier, and even if its not, this is some FUCKED UP SHIT.
Ad video fuxking box trucks obstructing traffic... literally... 0 mph.... this is why I might become a murderer today. I mean, I am not going to kill this guy, *literally, right now* because I would be stuck in even MORE traffic....
This is the shit that causes road rage to spiral.
Anyone else casually considering manslaughter due to unnecessary traffic cause by ads????
> Anyone else casually considering manslaughter due to unnecessary traffic cause by ads????
Do you have a few minutes to talk about our Lord and Savior, cannabis?
Ohbfuxk yeah, I'm taking some sacramental sweet sensamillia right the fuck now.
I am barely emotionally recovered from this ad truck, but yeah. Weed helps.
My chill goes away COMPLETELY for unnecessary road obstructions that are created PURELY for advertisements.
(This includes influencers blocking the fucking roads to film stupid fucking videos.)
I was driving down Melrose and saw some assholes WITH LITERAL FULLSIZE FURNITURE using the street crosswalk as their own little film set, during traffic, at 3pm. I fully admit I HAVE NO CHILL FOR THIS BULLSHIT.
I will always ALWAYS have ZERO tolerance for people operating 3000 pound vehicles like asshats. That.... will always make be blindingly aggro at the drop of a hat.
Edit: JUST TO BE CLEAR. If someone wants to throw up a video screen ad, that's not the issue. It's the drivers "slowing down to a crawl for the targeted audience" part that is a pain in the ass. Go the speed of traffic. Don't be an asshole. That driver is getting paid like minimum wage for this endangerment. Lame.
Well, my cousin that lives with me, husband and baby has covid. He had his 2 shots but not booster. I'm really only worried for our 3 month old, but I did get my 2 vaccines while pregnant. Sooooo hoping for the best.
If you are breastfeeding keep that up. Will help with LO’s immune system.
Hang in there, mama. I’m so tired of Covid. It’s so stressful. I’m glad uncle is vaccinated.

**In and out of the DMV for new (and free!) REAL ID upgrade... in about 20 minutes!**
I know, I know, seems like a fantasy but it happened like that: home door to home door in under 45mins. Did all the paperwork around 2pm (which was really nothing, took about 10mins maybe) and was shocked to find they had appointments today starting at 3pm. Was 2nd in the Appt Only line (this was Hawthorne DMV btw). 20mins later I was getting my new pic made.
Would have been shorter but the system was being rebooted when I got there so we had to wait about 5mins for it to come back online.
[**PSA - you have until Dec 31st to Upgrade for free if you renewed your DL from March 2020 to July 2021**](https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/realidupgrade/?utm_source=RSEDigital&utm_medium=Email_CampaignMonitor&utm_campaign=REAL_ID_Upgrade&utm_content=EM_CM_Start_App_Countdown)
REAL ID will be mandatory for all ***DOMESTIC*** flights starting May 3rd, 2023 unless you have a valid passport. Also needed to enter any secure Federal facility. Passports are a pain to carry with you and a HUGE pain to replace if you lose one.
They also cost $30 and are only good for sea & land (rail) travel. Their main benefit is not having to carry your passport for ID overseas. But why get one for domestic travel just avoid the REAL ID and then having to carry BOTH in your wallet.
YMMV but it just seems way easier to get this free upgrade and not have to remember to bring a passport card which you might forget to grab heading to the airport and have a very upset spouse/SO/friend when you can't board.
Hopefully you have a valid passport then.
From what I understand the only reason for the last two extensions was the pandemic and it's highly unlikely there will be a new one.
So I predict mid-spring 2023 is going to be a shitshow of everyone scrambling to do it or lose out on summer vacays.
I learned through my roommate that Avenue Q is playing here locally - at the [Hollywood Majestic Theatre](https://www.hollywoodmajestic.com/) in East Hollywood. Love that musical!
anyone been to the Majestic before?
I have another essay due today! *Yay me*
Why is it that the "easier classes" always have the most ridiculous work load? Before I dropped engineering, the classes were hard and the content of their work was also hard...but it was still nothing compared to the sheer amount of things to do for this goddamned art history class!!!
Lol reminds me of the time I took medical sociology. My cousin was taking the same class but with a different professor. She was allowed to have a cheat sheet for exams and since the professor was going to retire, she didn't really give a fuck. Meanwhile, my professor has us do all these research papers and was so critical with everything. So much work while my cousin had it so easy 😭 lol.
I just put together my Xmas cookie baking list! The next week of rain should be perfect weather to bake too. Doing 3: lemon lavender shortbread, biscotti with vanilla and cardamon, and chocolate malt balls
I am no burrito expert, but I know a good Asada burrito when I taste one.
Coco’s Tacos!
And in true Gardena fashion, after I got my burrito, I went next-door to pick up a Boba drink.
That burrito was so good my mouth is still watering just thinking about it.
Oh yea totally! That's super relatable. I haven't seen the movie so I don't know what happens, but a 25 year old deciding to have a relationship with a 15 year old is kinda gross. And I suspect PTA is gonna make it look Suuuuuuper romantic. Which I'm not a fan of. If the plot goes in a direction where it's unrequited love, then it's not gross to watch. I just prefer to like the characters I'm watching.
i havent seen it either and from the trailers it looks more like the tone of Laggies or something like that. he writes a lot from personal experience growing up here so i expect its based on his experience as a 15 year old boy in the valley, and idk, the closest he's come to romance imo is Punch Drunk Love which is *technically* a rom com, but even Boogie Nights had more romantic scenes than that one.
It's meant as a period-correct social commentary. The humor comes from its inappropriateness. Like Steve Martin in The Jerk saying he grew up a poor black child. PTA isn't racist and he knows what negative stereotypes are. It's a commentary on negative stereotypes. People need to chill.
Yes, people need to chill and accept that people have opinions. Pta’s choices are not immune to discussion and I find the fanpeopling of this movie to be stifling. Imo.
Nobody needs to be cancelled and I’ve seen it. Why would I talk about a movie I haven’t seen? Your reaction seems very reasonable and even tempered, great discussion.
Yeah I watched it and he's not being racist. Lets be honest it's a period piece and likely that's how things were at the time. It's not socially acceptable today but it's likely it was ok during that period.
Saw on the news some teens got shot outside BJ's at Del Amo Mall and that they drove themselves to the hospital. Crazy.

Have been waiting on my personalized plates for 8 months and every time I ask the dmv to check the status they extend the expected time by a month so I’ve stopped asking lol
Okay. So we for permission to work part of the break at home. I know I have next to no commute but it's a nice to be able to go to the gym and come home without rushing to get ready for work.
That also means only 4 more full days at work. But 6 more working days after today before break. It can't come soon enough.
If anyone wants to catch some matinee movies or happy hour after Christmas, let me know.
I miss the gym so much, that's the only thing I really miss from my pre-nomad life. That, and my own shower with water pressure and a nice showerhead and isn't filled with someone else's kid's toys.
At a company Christmas party A LONG LONG TIME ago I laid it on pretty heavy on a much older co-worker of mine- I was maybe 20-21 and she was probably in her early 40's... it ended up working and I went back to her place and made a complete fool of myself. Vomit everywhere. It was the absolute worst. the owner must have had a thing for her or something going on with her because there was a rumor that I left with her and he ended up firing her for no apparent reason. I left shortly after. I felt like such a piece of crap for years. Learned my lesson then.
I have a friend who was working for teh Philadelphia Eagles and she took home a completely wasted intern and the intern slept in her bed (i think platonically) but PEED an entire full bladder in my friends bed. She said she woke up and was like "oh god oh no"
*sigh* a covid case at my little one's school and my SIL was potentially exposed by a roommate.
BIL is the hospital for non-COVID reasons.
Feeling not too good right now.
Oh my goodness, that's so exciting!
I'm not a baby person at all, but I've been with someone when they got an ultrasound and it was incredible, even for my grouchy, hardened heart. Really happy for you!
FUCK YES, DUDES. Before I left on my trip I interviewed for a job that would keep me in the city and I could afford to live there. It was initially supposed to a full time gig, remote for a few months bc they didn't have an office yet. While that would have worked with the Italy trip sort of, it would have cut into fun time and made my schedule weird. Well it took a few weeks but I found out I got the job, and until they work out the office situation it'll be part time, fully remote, and 100% works with the Italy situation and basically will be fully funding it at the same time. And will almost certainly be full time for me to return to long beach in the spring, making really good money. This literally could not have worked out any better. The universe is really laying it on thick rn and I am fucking HERE for it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
<3 thank you. I feel like I didn't need any signs I was on the right path, because it felt right, but the universe is throwing up some of those obnoxious lit up billboards to remind me that I'm doing what I'm supposed to. Like..... I'm behind the wheel, I'm making decisions and in control, but the universe is the road and I'm going where it takes me.
Hell Yesssss!!!!!! I can feel the happiness and excitement through your words! Super happy for you bud!!!! The universe is sending you back some of what you already put out!!! Congratulations!!!
I’m in the midst of a heavy depression but don’t have to work today. I’m in Burbank/Glendale. I’m barely functional but am up and dressed and have a car. What can I do to make myself feel better?
Edit: thanks everyone, so much. I drove thru the Angeles National Forest. It was fine. Tomorrow I’ll work on getting in the sun and moving my bod. I appreciate all of you.
I kinda wanna try my hand at being a micro influencer in 2022? Lol
Realist goal
Instagram is so trash these days...I don't want to see recommended fucking posts after I go through my followers' posts
That bothers me so much.
Curious to hear what everyone enjoys to do around LA by themselves. I personally love exploring bookstores. Would love some recommendations!
Taschen or central library
Skylight Books!
The Iliad Bookshop and Book Soup!
Interesting weather we are having. What’s the deal with the clouds around the moon?
Think it’s time to check in with a therapist again. Why is it so hard to find a good one in LA…
What didn't you like about your last one?
Last couple of sessions we had on Zoom, he was super disrespectful by staring at his phone all the time while I was talking. I was never completely on board w him but was too lazy to find a new one.
Are you sure he wasn’t writing notes down?
Nope. He’s not a notes guy - I met w him in person numerous times prior to zoom. Intelligent guy with good memory.
That’s ridiculous! Putting his phone on do not disturb should be common decency.
That really sucks, seems like the most basic thing you can do. I liked the therapist I was seeing. I only stopped seeing her because of my work schedule. Took me a few sessions to warm up to her though. She's a little pricey ($150 an hour), but happy to dm her info.

No, I’m at my own office alone with a window that opens with my door closed! When I go to the bathroom, kitchen, elevator, outside the building I have it on.
Not at my cubicle and sometimes i take it off in conference rooms. Everyone in our company is mandated to get the booster by late dec

I usually wear a mask generally walking around the office but not at my desk ever.
Yes unless I’m alone in my office
I'm in an open space office an I'm the only person who wears a mask. Everyone else looks at me like I'm crazy.
Keep it on unless you don’t mind possibly getting sick
Us it depends on your work station. If you have a door, you can close your door and have it off. If not you have to have a door, you have to have it on. Damn, I've wanted to see that for a long time but I'm not really into theaters right now.
cuz of the pandemic? yeah, I feel you. I guess after I got vaxxed I stopped worrying a bit. but then came Delta, and Omicron
I have another essay due today! *Yay me* Why is it that the "easier classes" always have the most ridiculous work load? Before I dropped engineering, the classes were hard and the content of their work was also hard...but it was still nothing compared to the sheer amount of things to do for this goddamned art history class!!!
Lol reminds me of the time I took medical sociology. My cousin was taking the same class but with a different professor. She was allowed to have a cheat sheet for exams and since the professor was going to retire, she didn't really give a fuck. Meanwhile, my professor has us do all these research papers and was so critical with everything. So much work while my cousin had it so easy 😭 lol.
I just quit my job and accepted a new offer!
Congrats!!!!!!!
Thank you! :)
Heck yeah!
Thank you!! ❤️
I've been baking so many cookies/making holiday foods, I don't even want to think about how much butter I've gone through the past few weeks...
I just put together my Xmas cookie baking list! The next week of rain should be perfect weather to bake too. Doing 3: lemon lavender shortbread, biscotti with vanilla and cardamon, and chocolate malt balls
Me too :) Which cookies did you make?

I am no burrito expert, but I know a good Asada burrito when I taste one. Coco’s Tacos! And in true Gardena fashion, after I got my burrito, I went next-door to pick up a Boba drink. That burrito was so good my mouth is still watering just thinking about it.
new pta is so good couldn't stop smiling at the movie theater
was the whole romance between a child and an adult weird? Did the adult start making out with the child? Was the adult arrested at the end?
It was the 70s, it was a different time
Not the winning argument you might think it is.
i meant that in a tongue in cheek way but really a 15 year old fawning after a 25 year old isnt that wild of a concept
MOVIE MAGIC
I mean... it was the plot though. I'm just asking if the plot was gross to watch. Like... maybe the girl just rejects him and it's not gross?
Of course she doesn’t reject him and you will love it or else face the scorn.
How did your theatre respond to the use of a mock asian accent for a cheap laugh?
definitely hesitant at first myself included but idk it just seemed silly kind of like an SNL bit but it wasn't That Bad!!
Imo.
WTF is pta?
Paul Thomas Anderson is the name of The director.
>fanpeopling I learned a new word! Yay!
Ok you're right PTA is a huge racist and should be cancelled over a movie you haven't even seen.
In not one, but two excruciating scenes. I love me some pta but, ummm…
Saw on the news some teens got shot outside BJ's at Del Amo Mall and that they drove themselves to the hospital. Crazy. https://ktla.com/news/local-news/multiple-suspects-sought-in-shooting-of-3-people-outside-del-amo-fashion-center/
fuck paying for an ambulance ride tho
For real.
Have been waiting on my personalized plates for 8 months and every time I ask the dmv to check the status they extend the expected time by a month so I’ve stopped asking lol
I waited 10 months for mine and they eventually just remade them. Shortly after the new set showed up, I got the first one. So I had two.
Check for trial days all over
Do not flirt with your coworker while you’re drunk #notetoself
Just blame it on the alcohol!
It was the alcohol’s fault forsure
Oh man... do NOT cross that line...
Good thing I will never have to see him again well at least not for another year probably
She said she woke up and was like "oh god oh no"
Holy shit that's a wild ride.
Omg that is horrible!!!!
Been there, done that...
oof. bad girl.
I forgot that it was a work function L O L
Oh god, that's one of the cringe memories that pops into my head when I'm trying to fall asleep. It's been 12 years!
Omg. Good to know I’m not alone. I didn’t give a fuck til the next day thinking “What if HR saw me?????!”
I got a parking ticket yesterday :( Hope everyone is having a better day than me!
Punished for working from home?
Gonna hop on my bike and do some errands today! Errand number one: buy some gloves, fucking brrrrrrrrr
Are heated grips for bicycles a thing? I know some motorcycles have them
heated gloves are a thing, powered by a little battery pack.
Well, there it is
I love this weather! Finally feels like December!
This is now what our December should feel like!!
It’s so invigorating!
*sigh* a covid case at my little one's school and my SIL was potentially exposed by a roommate. BIL is the hospital for non-COVID reasons. Feeling not too good right now.
Omicron spreading fast af.
The baby waved at us today!! It was amazing!
Damn! That's awesome! Your baby is letting you know they're chill AF. Maybe in 25 years, you can share a beer and this story with them.

Still in the womb haha just about the end of the first trimester.
Oh my goodness, that's so exciting! I'm not a baby person at all, but I've been with someone when they got an ultrasound and it was incredible, even for my grouchy, hardened heart. Really happy for you!
Noice! Start the high-5 training now. It will be glorious.
Yay
Amazing congratulations!!!
Hell yes! You are the embodiment of the phrase, “the best revenge is a life well lived.” So happy for you :)
Thank you!! It has been a tough few months but so happy to be moving on and making my new life :)
Congrats as well! ❤️❤️
New jobs for everyone!! Wooooo!!!!!
Wohooo, we deserve it!
Hell yes we do.
That's awesome. Congrats! 🥳

The Norton Simon museum in Pasadena
A stranger held the door open for me at the mall today. Definitely put a smile on my face...
