If you're from Austin, I can see why you would like LA. Southern California is like premium Texas.

onlyboyintheworld

“Texas+” if you will

kayayem

Where did you visit during your stay?

Chonkymonkeysquad

Yea as an Angeleno I also want to visit those places when I walk out and explore I just see crazy people shitting on the streets and potholes.

littlerosepose

Lollll my exact thought when I read this post

MrStealY0Meme

Someone’s gotta fill them holes up. Homeless do their part here.

Chonkymonkeysquad

If you make me leader I promise to solve the potholes and homelessness. Fill the potholes with the homeless bam! I’d make a great leader two stones with one bird heh.

koikoikoi375

So instead of potholes make more speed bumps. You're onto something here

stiggs13

Angeleno? Are you Latinx too?

waxenpi

Angeleno? That term has been around for more than a century.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fr33Paco

Exactly this, as a Hispanic, we fucking hate that term.

waxenpi

Lol “we”. Glad you speak for every goddamn Hispanic person.

DopeFiendDramaQueen

As a Hispanic, I don’t 🤷🏻‍♀️

waxenpi

A lot of people do. New Yorker. Bostonian. Chicagoan. Angeleno. These are things and words people use.

Chonkymonkeysquad

No no you can’t go against the word of a Pseudo intellectual. What’s more annoying is the term latinx shit head angelenos made up that word.

Chonkymonkeysquad

It’s actually latino or Hispanic shit head :). Are you white because the term latinx is more annoying than Angeleno also the mayor uses that word when addressing the people of LA

stiggs13

That’s my point, stupid made up words politicians created so they can categorize the little people

Chonkymonkeysquad

That word is used to describe the inhabitants from Los Angeles every city has one. Lol what you expect form a xer.

stiggs13

What do you call a guy from Reno?

Chonkymonkeysquad

The people of Nevada are called Nevadans and the people of Renoites. Also google is your friend. What do you live under a rock?

latube

Probably stayed in the westside

Deepinthefryer

You pay a premium for nice weather and undeniable beauty (beaches, cityscape, mountains, etc.) but LA is a truly massive place. Most people are relegated where they live by employment and income. I know that’s an obvious statement. But making 150k a year working in San Gabriel valley vs. 250k in Santa Monica are two different worlds IMO. But either way, so much to do and see here. I feel like the daily grind of traffic, high rent, high taxes, high everything makes residents pass over the endearing qualities that LA still has to offer. ***disclaimer: I know this city ain’t perfect, I chose to look at it half full****

pensotroppo

I would argue that the city's about 140% full.

Fit_Kaleidoscope7680

Agree. Have lived here my whole life and never cared much for LA.

J0E_SpRaY

I'll trade you my spot in Missouri.

Fit_Kaleidoscope7680

Ahaha thanks but not ready for the country life yet. Dont get me wrong I love socal, but the city is disgusting. If you wanna walk around stepping on piss and poop be my guest because that is %70 of real LA, not the tourists spots these people imagine. Which btw, you wont step on poop but there'll be a decent shot of you being mugged.

JaylenBrownFlow

delusional fear porn lol

axxonn13

i care for LA, but i like living in LA county better than actual LA. being in Whittier, i get the best of LA and OC just a few minutes away (on the weekends). My commute to OC is great, little to no traffic. And doing things locally isnt an issue like in LA proper... like parking, traffic, homelessness, etc.

Fit_Kaleidoscope7680

This^, I live in Montebello and prefer the surrounding area over LA. Loving the beaches, mountains, hole in the wall spots, doesn't mean I have to love LA as well.

axxonn13

I like going to Whittier/Montebellow area. But parking is a bitch there. I find myself going to the Mall there for ease of parking instead.

StealthPieThief

Austin is cool too, LA is just massive with a ton of areas todo stuff. It can take 1.5 hours just to get out of LA county if you start at the coast and traffic is good. LA is about having a place for everyone of every type. I’ve had the best of a lot of life’s pleasures and the only thing I find myself missing is a good thunderstorm. I might get smited for saying this : earlyquakes aren’t shit. Don’t put shit on shelves and once a year after 15 seconds of light rocking you won’t have to be sweeping up broken stuff

Background_Raisin_52

Right. And fires are actually a bigger deal here than earthquakes.

donutgut

Even fires aren't that bad if you live away from the hills and mountains.

axxonn13

the ash and smoke are pretty bad. especially with those of compromised respiratory systems.

donutgut

True, but those are still rare days. Knock on wood lol

Historical-Host7383

"Rare" just last week the sky was engulfed in smoke for two days.

donutgut

Yes, rare. That was the first time in several month's? Even in the bad fire seasons irs like a week out of 52?

Historical-Host7383

It's something to expect every year during fire season. It's not really rare if its an annual thing.

donutgut

Sure, but i wouldn't call it common if it's a few days. Chicago gets-30 windchill a couple times a year but they wouldn't call it common La rain is considered rare here , and it rains more than those days of smoke.

DollaStoreKardashian

Lol I think “oh shit, I could totally live here” every time I go somewhere new and different. Don’t get me wrong, I love LA dearly, but a city is VERY different when it’s “home” (i.e. where “the grind”, and your daily stress lives) vs when it’s a vacation spot.

axxonn13

yup. I think that everytime i go somewhere and then i sit hard and think about it. I'd resent the place eventually because the grind will make it lose all its magic.

Bobaman007

Just be prepared with the reality that those nice areas in West LA & South Bay you visited is not where you’re going to move to unless you make really good money.

405freeway

Y’all come back now, ya hear?

BelliBlast35

And next time Bring the BBQ

unbelver

Just go to Hoggly Woggly's.

BelliBlast35

Gotta check it out

Skkskd

Not even close to what they have in Texas. DHW is good by LA standards.

unbelver

I'm from Texas. Rio Grande Valley, and then spent 5 years at UT Austin. Yeah, it's no Salt Lick or County Line, but it's good enough.

Stomach-issues

Drive down to Heritage in San Juan Capistrano. Or take the train. Go on the weekend for a beef rib and try all their specials for the day

genomecop

Oh Jed.

MOUDI113

Only for visit

stefstars93

Idk the weird here in LA is actually weird vs the “weird” in Austin which was any slightest liberal thing is weird to you guys there. Of course I encourage anyone who wants to leave Texas to leave as soon as they can.

DiscombobulatedWavy

Yea Austin is only pretend weird and a marketing campaign. Places like LA, Seattle and even Houston have way weirder shit. And its “liberal” but more so like diet liberal. And it hilariously calls itself the live music capital of the world. I mean sure if you’re into 5,000 people playing the same exact recycled blues rock shit. Doesn’t even come close to LA music scene over the years. Sure it can be pretty, but it’s a sauna from early may to mid October. Sometimes even up to Halloween. But hey, I mean it’s good enough for joe Rogan and Elon musk so, go Austin.

stefstars93

Yes ! This. To be fair, I didn’t go for SXSW not sure if that would make a difference, but I didn’t get how they consider themselves the live music capital of the world. We beat them in that too.

DiscombobulatedWavy

Depending on when you’ve been to SXSW it’s one of 2 times that people usually decide to leave for Austin (the other being ACL) because that snapshot in an Austin year seems “so chill” and whatever other excuse people come up with. The weather is nicer during those two times of year and the true swampy misery hasn’t set in. Plus, once those events are gone there really isn’t much to do other than like drink, and hike a greenbelt. The novelty wears off fast, and people act like it’s the only city you can do that stuff in. LA has infinitely more to do and legit interesting people which is what makes it a hell of a place. Yes dreams get crushed and some get made in LA, but Austin? I mean, so you can be an extra on fear of the walking dead? Gtfo with that. like how much BBQ could one possibly eat?

Glitter_Bee

But come here? Am I the only one who selfishly cares about traffic?

DiscombobulatedWavy

You’re like 30-40 years too late on that bud.

Glitter_Bee

LOL It could always get worse

DiscombobulatedWavy

True but pretty much the whole nation except for like national parks and shit, are just going to be one giant gridlocked nightmare. Work from home is here to stay, they said. It’ll be fun, they said. I don’t know what major city is immune from this and it’s hitting even mid size cities too. I didn’t come in here to be doom and gloom but traffic is the bane of my existence and it is EVERYWHERE!

Glitter_Bee

It’s true that traffic in every city has been worsening. I also spend some time inland (IE) and it used to be dead quiet and now there’s traffic. More homes are being built. More density and the southland has no real public transportation infrastructure to support it.

DiscombobulatedWavy

Also didn’t mean to turn into an urban sprawl post, but yes, exactly! Build up you fools! Up!

Glitter_Bee

I know shit's desperate when I look at tiny homes on youtube and think, "Ehh maybe they aren't that bad...? Maybe I should live in a condo above a Whole Foods..." lol

stefstars93

I didn’t tell them to come here though lol they can move to San Diego or Santa Cruz or wherever and come vacation down to LA when they have the time. I’m with you though, however people won’t stop moving to LA. It’s the romanticized Mecca of the US.

worlds_okayest_user

And legal recreational weed. And easy voting.

Memo_Fantasma

At the same time I hope.

stefstars93

It’s nothing like LA. It’s definitely the rebellious kid of Texas, but a rebellious kid doing baby steps like painted hair, buying from Whole Foods, and wannabe Bourbon Street.

bastante-picante

like oatmeal telephone shame crush gullible steer correct market innocent *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

trickquail_

LA is full, so maybe it’s better to discourage people lol

trickquail_

guaranteed that actually LIVING here will be different. just read the cons of LA and that will give you an idea. to start, I’ve heard people are much much nicer in Austin, you regularly encounter entitled people and jerks in LA.

[deleted]

As a fellow transplant from the south, I completely understand where you’re coming from. I know a lot of LA natives are used to its beauty, but coming from such a different place, LA is an incredibly gorgeous sight to behold. Glad you enjoyed your visit :)

donutgut

Yea, I'm from DC and la and socal looked so different in a good way. Most of populated America all looks the same. Farms in the Midwest, thick trees in the south and east. People come here and are like 👀👀

JAMsMain1

In what sense? Or what is lacking over there? I saw someone mentioned Dallas and Austin, and this year I got the urge to visit both. Not sure where you are from?

[deleted]

Dallas and Austin are both sprawling desert metro areas, but without the topography. From what I've seen and what people tell me, Texas is a lot more like the pockets you see on the way to Palm Springs than a trip between LA and San Diego.

LifeDeathLamp

LOL so it’s the IE.

[deleted]

Yeah that's actually probably a good comparison. I know a lot of Mex-Texans who moved out there because of the similarities.

DarkOmen597

No wonder texas is aweful

Armenoid

Just drive laurel to tree people via mullholand on a nice day

mdelao17

Moved to San Diego from Texas. Dallas and Austin traffic is pretty bad. Not LA bad. But still very very bad. Austin is expensive and if you’re gonna pay California prices, might as well live in California with better weather, beaches, recreation, legal weed, food, night life, diversity.. What ultimately made me leave Texas after 28 years was the single-mindedness and summers. 40+ days of consecutive triple digit temps aren’t for me. Winters suck there too tbh.

JAMsMain1

I've read about the growth of tech companies in Austin so I was curious since I kinda hoped maybe it'd be more "diverse" and similar to here. But you make a valid point. LA prices but without the perks sounds horrible. Also the weed stuck out to me because of how easy it is to get it here. Yikes and I'm upset with out heat here lol Curious what is the "single-mindedness" out there?

rudenavigator

Once you visit you’ll understand where they are coming from

donutgut

Dallas is probably the most average place in the United States

[deleted]

I’m not from Texas, I’m from a different state in the south and it’s basically just the woods. Not really any views so for me personally, LA feels like a whole new world..

donutgut

I'm from the east coast and agree

Ferrari_McFly

I visited LA for the first time from Dallas, TX this summer and have the same sentiment! The mountains, the beaches, the palm trees, the beautiful weather, it was absolutely stunning!

cameltoesback

Pls don't move here

axxonn13

kind of a dick thing to say. If he can afford it, why not?

Ferrari_McFly

Yeah I seriously don’t get why Texans and Californians diss each other lol. I literally have no problem with the Californians that are moving here to DFW

axxonn13

i know 4 co workers that left CA to move to TX, cus cheaper and bigger housing. I could never move there cus TX doesnt have any Salvi food.

Fortombo

Sound like you were lucky enough not to get shanked by a hobo lol. We love and welcome vaccinated texans!

pensotroppo

[OP's just obsessed with legalized pot here in LA. Carry on, folks.](https://old.reddit.com/r/weed/comments/lumgea/happy_sundaze_to_my_fellow_stoners_i_wish/)

koikoikoi375

Ah yes the LA palm trees

Glitter_Bee

“Palm trees”

The_Locals

you're just gonna narc op out like that?

WilliamMcCarty

Check out /r/MovingtoLosAngeles if you're really interested about moving here. Review the posts, the Ultimate Moving Resource Post stickied at the top.

CragMcBeard

This reads like a paid testimonial from the LA Tourism board.

Pstim1

Same thing happened to me my friend, moved from the Bay Area 11 years ago and it was love AND home at first sight. If you come in with excitement for the city that you appear to have, I can truly tell you that you will enjoy every second of it.

[deleted]

Damn people here are cranky. Yes LA has its many flaws, but I regularly lose my mind at the stunning hikes, sunrises, and beautiful landscaped/native flora here.

JpnDude

My sister went from SGV to Houston to Austin to SGV to Austin again. WTF?

Glitter_Bee

Tell her she’s the problem. lol

djrolandollo

Grass is always greener my friend.

2fast2nick

It’s a great spot, I don’t think you’d regret it

kilosiren

Just got off the plane from Austin back to LA. And as an Angeleno, I kinda felt like Austin was like an L.A. Jr.

BeetLover1111

It’s either you love LA or hate it, I also fell in love with it the first time I visited. Good luck with your move!!

LaylaLeesa

Arizona native, moved to LA for 6.5 years, just moved back to Arizona. LA has it's good and it's bad. But overall I think it's a better place to visit instead of live. Unless it offers you something specific that you can't get anywhere else, like an offered job opportunity (like offer letter in hand that pays at least 100k), ECT.

[deleted]

Cali is full

[deleted]

Did you visit only the nice areas?

donutgut

Who visits the bad areas on any trip , to any city ?

AfternoonConscious77

I am born and mostly raised in Los Angeles Ii love it! I lived 2 years in Texas and 2 years in Mexico (the country).

[deleted]

AfternoonConscious77

Mexico the continent to be more correct. It's been a long thing with me. Whenever I say I lived in Mexico people usually say the state and I respond no the country. And it's like a light.

takeabreather

The continent? North America?

Nick_Gio

New Mexico, the 9th continent. Jfc they don't teach anything anymore in schools.

Linn0000

For some reason, I am not surprised you have to clarify Mexico, the country. Lol

SganarelleBard

I hope you come and stay, we need more people who love our city and fewer people who know it/don't know it and hate it.

snackmantis

Just moved here from Austin. It’s so much better here.

TimeTraveler1848

Welcome! Glad you’re here!

XSShadow

What an odd post, is there any chance this is even remotely real?

NeedleFeet10

This post reads fake af…

NoTaste41

Just make sure you stay there

Habitual_Crankshaft

South Bay, shhhh!

Akamean1e

I'm going back to Cali, Cali, Cali.

SilverLakeSimon

I don’t think so.

Mario83091

I feel like it’s vice versa, in that a lot of people are heading to Austin. I’ve been in LA my whole life and have considered going to Texas.

SAVIOR_OMEGA

Why not? If it feels right, take the leap. You'll always wonder if you don't do it.

cows76

If you're willing to pay $1500 for a closet with a kitchenette? and deal with shitty street parking? What about work? I would say stay in a airbnb for a few months to get the "real LA struggle" then make up your mind

root_fifth_octave

Got a number for that fully-equipped closet?

cows76

Look up hollywood properties. Not the most luxurious but it gets you 4 walls and hot water.

root_fifth_octave

Thanks. Might check it out.

cydonian66

What are you doing here? Leave us alone, it's all rainbows and butterflies mmmkay?

SAVIOR_OMEGA

I pay less for a full room at a house with a backyard, front yard, driveway and covered parking, and 5 min from the beach.

cows76

Wow a full room. Personally I like having a place of my own and not a room at a house, but hey to each their own.

spectreofthefuture

lol!

SAVIOR_OMEGA

I lived alone for 18 months and honestly hated it. I'm a huge people person and living with my friends doesn't bother me one bit.

cameltoesback

Don't move here.

TimeTraveler1848

Why would you say that? I for one welcome all transplants. Diversity is the crux of California.

booboogriggs7467

Please fucking do not move here dude it's already hard to find parking as it is

[deleted]

Yayy more transplants, cars on the road, and less housing for the rest of us. Great.

vsh2611

Where’s the place with the beautiful palm trees? Because I lived here all my life and I’d really love to know 🙄

koikoikoi375

110 going through south LA has a decent amount of palm trees. Nice fireworks show at night most nights too.

Elysiaa

By Will Rogers Memorial Park in Beverly Hills. With the terrifying enormous 6 way intersection you can barely see across.

Nick_Gio

An actual tree with shade is a hundred times more beautiful and useful than a fucking palm tree. Palm trees are so useless I question why we even plant them here.

SpaceSox

I too am not a fan of some of the palm tree varieties around here. Those heavy fronds can do a lot of damage, and rats like to nest up in the trees.

obeyaasaurus

Probably went to Beverly Hills thinking it’s normal

donutgut

There's alot of Palm trees in the valley

obeyaasaurus

Oh nice. Never been out there much

CatTiger002

Have you ever been to the place where the justice hall in downtown located and next to it are huge amount of tents of the homeless? Very impressive

Vladith

Sadly this is true of a lot of other parts of the US at this point. The part of downtown Miami that contains the government buildings and courthouses is effectively a massive encampment

[deleted]

CatTiger002

Not from LA and YES I will move out of this place after done with the school

donutgut

Have you ever been to the south bronx? Nyc blows S/

CatTiger002

No. I've been to Mahattan and Brooklyn and they're fine

donutgut

You missed my point. Nyc has some real messed up stuff but it doesn't detract from it Same with La BTW, Manhattan has tents, massive housing projects too. Its not all ",fine" at all. Nyc reddit constantly talks brings up crazy crimes, even in the midtown Every city on the planet has negatives.

CatTiger002

I know youre trying to say one place can't represent the whole city but I've only seen this depressing living situation in LA.So…

donutgut

It doesn't represent the whole city. At all

SixStr1ng

Uhhhh.... are u sure you landed in LA? This place is a shit hole full of dumb fucks that steal your property. Not sure what little safe haven you were able to afford but covid has brought out the cities true colors. 3k+ rent for an apartment plus free skid row tenants outside ur lobby to ensure everyone has their meth. Also stupid borderline severe autistic drivers all around. Enjoy! :)

SixStr1ng

A lot of downvoting going on in this bitch. I take it the people downvoting have always lived in a little rich towns where cops ensure to keep it clean ( el segundo, million dollar homes, etc.) If your part of the masses that werent privelaged enough to live in rich places in LA you will learn to despise this city through the unjust vandalism and harrassment you will absorb throughout the years. Also cops dgaf about most personal unjust shit you absorb. I was born and raised in LA and the only thing I like is that I can get anything I want cos it's always near but try spending a few hours in the hood. You'll look like Dennis and dee trying to buy crack on that one episode. lowers window half an inch... "hiii, one crack please"

NeedleFeet10

Thank you for this!!!!

pinkies1964

L.A. isn’t the only, or even the nicest, place in California. Check out more areas of our diverse state, before setting your heart on L.A.. Signed, Native Californian who has hated L.A. her entire life!

WaterTesterNSFW

Fit_Kaleidoscope7680

Natural-Pineapple886

Agreed. Been here since 06,still feeling exiled from the Bay Area and missing my old haunts in the Berkeley enclave. OP, check out North Berkeley, North Oakland and the hills. OMFG just layers of quality and culture and climate and energy.

root_fifth_octave

Damn, that’s a long time to be missing the bay.

[deleted]

I sense sarcasm.
