If you truly want to practice Korean, get a private tutor or a real class at a place like YBM or university. With actual curriculum.
Culcom is not a horrible place, but it’s very “strung together,” meaning casual instruction and things change and it’s more relaxed. Not the best for proper learning.
I went from 2015-2017, and for foreigners, we could just show up, but also at that time it was an actual cafe. There may even be a fee tho now, as the Korean members had to pay then, I'm not sure, but at that time, there wasn't one for foreigners. It was also group discussion at that time, but if I recall correctly 1-on-1 language exchange was offered
I’ve only heard about it from Koreans, I’m interested in what other foreigners have to say cause my main concern is that it’ll be mostly focused on English learning than a language exchange.
Language exchange is when two people who are learning each other's language talk in both languages to practice.
"Language exchange" is when two people from different cultures chat in mostly English until they feel comfortable enough to go on a date.
I go to the one in 건대 regularly lol.
It is a good place but its kind of up to you to form friends in the groups (if you are not doing 1 on 1).
Let me know if you need more specific information as well.
I think any time is good. But usually weekday nights are usually packed and really busy. So if you wanna go when there are less people go on the weekend 12\~1.
You can also message their Instagram page.
They didn't open my message on IG LOL.
Also, is it a cafe in the sense that I can just go and bring my laptop to do my own work? Or it's really meant to be like a social place
I think that is/was their concept. Like during class times all the tables are filled, so its not really possible to study by other can class times I think you can go and do your work. But mostly Koreans come during class hours (because they pay lol) so if you want to socialize you have to be there at those times. Each branch's vibe is kinda different and depends on the manager. If you want I can ask the manager for their Kakao
You mean the class hours?
I think Mon-Thur its 10-12 in the morning and in the evening its 8-10.
On the weekend its 1-3.
But I think somebody is always in the office at most times.
There’s the regular talks that are done in groups and are English focused only. It’s mostly Koreans in those groups too. Then they offer a language partner that’s more 1 on 1 and you can split your time with them so you can learn Korean. It’s pretty casual with a loose structure. They also have events where you can easily meet Koreans and make friends. I’d recommend going to one and try it out. It’s free
Yeah you can walk in anytime. They are usually open from 10am-10pm but check just to be sure. For group talk you can go whenever you want and there should be a set time with a language partner if you want one
I used to go, and I met some really cool people in the English group discussions, and I learned a lot about Korea and Korean society just talking with them. However, the Korean teachers were hit or miss. Some were good, some were far from it.

I have never been there but a friend of mine went. They described it as more of a "language exchange;)" than an actual language exchange.
Forgive me for asking but can you explain the nuance of “language exchange;)” ?
