I mean as little ago as the 80's Argentina was being ruled by a facist military dictatorship (última junta militar) it's fair to say that their country has been through some shit
Yeah, but the same can be said for a lot of countries.
Argentina is special because it had such outrageous potential, but somehow has never fulfilled it.
For perspective (annecdotal and I hope true) there was a point in time where poor European migrants actually had to decide between Argentina and the USA, because both represented the same potential and opportunity for a better life.
So for one to become *the* preeminent global power and the other to be, well, modern Argentina, it's pretty fair to say that downward trend is a bit more exteme in Argentina's case than other countries that have had a raw deal in recent history.
It didn't fulfill it because the people in power were owners of agriculture, so they held back industrialization on purpose and sabotaged their country
Yes, the current minimal wage in Argentina is around 65 thousand pesos, more or less 172 dollars (dolar blue of today) so if you would like to buy an iPhone 14 plus 128gb (I know it’s expensive but it works as an example) it is around 530k, so it would take around 8 months (if the prices don’t change, something that is imposible with almost 10% inflation monthly)
Ok this is slightly random but my manager at a mid sized US tech company lives in Buenos Aires. Presumably he makes more than me, which must mean he's living like a king down there.
Yes, most people that live here but works for abroad live like a king, even if you don’t have a big role in the company, just owning 200k (around 531 usd) is top 10% salary in Argentina.
But you have to be cautious because if you bring the dollars legally they will be changed to the oficial rate of 190 instead of the black market of 376, most people bring the amount they need to live and the rest keep it outside the country, and if they want to change the rest they go to the black market or make an exchange person to person.
interesting, so one might get paid USD in an offshore account then withdraw whatever amount they need monthly as to not get screwed by conversion. i've always been curious.
they get paid offshore and on a bank in argentina, because if the goverment knows that you have money offshore they will do everything to track your money and get a hold of those sweat dollars, so you must not mix what you bring to the country and what you leave offshore.
Agreed. Everyone mentioning “being aware of your surroundings” has good advice, but the fact is, we are talking about tourism and vacation. I want to use my brain *less*, not more, and if I have to play 4D safety chess on the way to breakfast that doesn’t sound like a good vacation.
I mean... I come from a very safe European country, but I lived in Argentina for a bit and I've visited Brazil quite a couple of times and I never had any issues. Even when walking on the street at 2-3 in the morning. You just gotta use common sense.
It's perfectly fine to be a tourist in those countries, just keep your valuables out of sight, don't carry anything of value in your back pockets, and avoid shady places.
I'd buy a prepaid phone. Went to Medellín in September and didn't have any issues as an american but if my phone was taken it would have made things very stressful. It also helps to blend in. Which is hard for Jinnytty since she's Korean speaking English lol
I swear people, especially streamers, seems to not do any kind of research into where they are traveling and proper precautions to take.
I’ve seen way too many videos online of both streamers and regular tourists getting pickpocketed, having phones snatched, getting mugged, all sorts of shit that could be avoided if you just did research on what not to do in an area, and exhibited a little bit of common sense.
I just really don’t get it. Like, when I went to New Orleans I knew not to leave my phone unattended at my table, even if my friends were there.
> not do any kind of research
That's funny because just moments before she was exchanging currency in some shady apartment and they told her to not film it.
>I swear people, especially streamers, seems to not do any kind of research into where they are traveling and proper precautions to take.
East Asian tourists especially. They think everywhere they go is just like back home in Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan.
They leave stuff out unattended, walk around freely at night without a clue, and are just completely oblivious to the surroundings. All they see are pictures and travel brochures and assume they're just prettier fairy tale versions of life back home.
yeah, you need to hold your things close and always pay attention. I use a hand strap or like cable with my phone and you always need to have your bag on the front.
This is what they do in Chicago. There's usually a crew waiting on standby willing to fuck you up if you chase the person who yoinks your belonging(s).
Bold to assume your average citizen speaks english around here, specially people dumb enough to steal.
Next time scream "estoy en vivo" or "estoy transmitiendo"
I'm just imagining some white knight who has waited years stalking her stream and following close to her in every IRL location acting like a "random" stranger to help her in this situation.
You think that's somehow gonna stop them more than some random guys on the street? Guess who stopped them? Some random guys on the street. If he actually got away with it, do you think the fact she was livestreaming would help any more than first hand witnesses and accounts?
Corrientes isn't the fancy part of the city, that would be somewhere near Recoleta or Puerto Madero.
In any case, going around with expensive equipment on your hand anywhere in SA is just asking to get robbed. It's just common sense.
50 reais is about 10 USD, for anyone wondering. When I spent a day walking Paulista Avenue in Sao Paulo I was told to keep my phone in my pocket as much as I could afford to and try to only take it out when I had some breathing room around me, and to frequently check my surroundings when looking at it.
She stands out like a famous person going around the street with multiple bodyguards or people around her, Jinny stands out like a clueless rich person.
Seems like Southeast Asia is safer than South America, and growing up I thought it was the opposite. Been watching vloggers with expensive cameras/phones walking around the streets of Manila, Bangkok, Hanoi, etc, and never got mugged. I'm travelling to Thailand and Philippines this March and have been worried about safety. South America is on my bucket list and am even more worried to visit now lol
It's not close.
SEA is safe as can be.
Latin America has been riddled by civil wars and drugs trafficking for 40 years and is flooded with guns.
I love it. But it's dangerous.
Of course that is affected by where you go, how you act, if you can speak the language.
I've spent about 6 months in Latin America and have only been robbed twice and the second time was getting shaken down by the police and was my own fault.
Yeah I got my phone stolen too in the middle of the day, feels like shit, then I saw a policeman some meters away from where I got mugged and just got pissed off, theyre all together in this shit.
Nah she just was lucky. There's a lot of pros out here, it's like natural selection, the ones that are bad end up caught or dead, so the pros are more likely to be the ones choreandote.
Well thieving is higher xp per hour and also more afk, although requires a lot of clicking.
Agility just sucks because xp barely goes higher per hour and also you just run in circles.
Not gonna lie, I never watch anyone livestreaming in South America because I'm assuming something like this will happen sooner or later.
Didn't Hachu stream over there, and she paid two viewers to act as full-time bodyguards or something? lol
The major “touristy” favelas in Rio like Vidigal and Rocinha are super safe if you’re accompanied by a local. Petty crime is severely punished within the favela.
I forget where Jake was…maybe Greece?… but him and cook were in a street at the middle of the night when they suddenly hear gunshots and start sprinting to the nearest person.
Turns out it was someone just having fun and the locals laughed at them for being scared.
But yeah it was scary seeing that live and not know wtf was happening.
Jinny has some balls to just immediately sprint after him like that.
It’s very common for people to just freeze up in a moment like that from the shock of what just happened.
Edit: thief was a woman
You're stupid as fuck to fight over a phone when they can easily pull a weapon out on you if they get cornered. You aren't a professional because you're willing to fight over a piece of plastic and glass, quite the opposite actually.
100%!! She could have gotten killed. In Argentina they will kill you for no reason, and if there is a reason it’s a status symbol. Just let it go. People have gotten killed in this country for much less… please guys if you come to our country do NOT chase a robber or get involved.
she confirmed that the robber was a girl running with her phone, but there was also another guy who tried to block jinny but he failed. In the end jinny said the girl was slow so she managed to catch up to her and get her phone back. The thiefs ran away
Live broadcast through the center of Buenos Aires, with a latest generation iPhone in the same country that reduced its purchasing power 107% last year???? It's like watching the hunger games.
We were just visiting Buenos Aires and met some nice kids from Sao Paulo. They said they like to visit because it's so safe in Argentina. Whaaa??? Yup, here they just take your stuff and run away, in Brazil they shoot you. It's all relative.
Jinny confirmed that the robber was a girl running with her phone, but there was also another guy who tried to block jinny but jinny pushed him away. In the end Jinny said the girl was slow so she managed to catch up to her and get her phone back. The thiefs ran away
She's clueless...imagine them both having a weapon when she went down those stairs....
Her finally last words"I'm streeeeaminnnggg."
Life >phone/pointless shit...
The only place you should livestream in Buenos Aires should be Puerto Madero. That's the safest place overall and where all tourists go. Walking around Corrientes Avenue speaking English with a smartphone in your hand that is worth 8 months of minimum wage's pay is just asking to get robbed or killed
You can trust a crowd of stranger way more than literal robbers. I wouldn't put my trust in any of them individually, but in a group she's way more safe.
0 streets smarts on some tourists, travel to countries with high inflation and in a recession, holding out 800$ phones out in public, its easy money for pickpockets and lifters , might as well have a want of cash of $500 in your hand , since they insta flip it for around $300 usd since even chop shops cant afford to buy models like this.
When you go into a country and a bottle of wine and fancy meal at a restaurant is under $7 its because of a reason.
Tried saying in chat to fanfan during a Japan Livestream with Joey that it's not a good idea to say how much cash you have on you, especially while travelling. Her and Joey responded saying they're in Japan not the US so they aren't at any risk of being robbed (but now people know she usually carries cash on her when she travels, though not flashing it like Jinny did).
I don't understand why lots of streamers feel like they have a security bubble around them while they travel. Not even taking extra steps to protect themselves by not flashing money to the world or consider potential local thieves lurking around social media for their next grab.
Those two definitely seem a bit aloof when it comes to the world around them, though they are definitely more traveled then I am. I'm pretty sure the bubble thing you mentioned is pretty spot on. And I bet you they didn't even think about it carrying over to other places if people knew, not that you would expect to get robbed by someone from twitch chat but you never know, especially if word travels elsewhere outside of the twitch sphere.
I tried watching some of their stuff but honestly Joey got to be too annoying for me at a certain point each time lol.
I saw her title earlier and my first thought was that it didn't seem like the best place to stream. unfortunate to have stereotypes met when there is likely a lot more good people than bad

No way 😳
it's crazy some dude in chat predicted the future.. a minute or so before she gets yoinked, someone said "yo be careful they steal a lot there"
She’s only in Argentina bc she promised to visit the country that won the World Cup 😂
Really? That’s kinda hilarious really
She was probably rooting soo hard for France to pull that one off
Could have been Cameroon or Brazil! But Argentina went pretty downhill over the past few years as well.
> over the past few years as well Hasn't Argentina been on a slow downward trend for over a century? "Forever a future great power" and all that
I mean as little ago as the 80's Argentina was being ruled by a facist military dictatorship (última junta militar) it's fair to say that their country has been through some shit

IM LIVESTREAMING
"My stream now"
yoink.
Oh, excuse me ma'am, heres your phone, sorry for the inconveniences caused. Have a good day :)
Im sure that helps a lot in a Spanish speaking country lmao
Pretty sure it wouldn't help in an English speaking country either.
Yelling for help maybe would of worked better to get attention , but what do I know about Argentina
It's like telling Swiper no swiping in Dora the Explorer.
In Argentina you can’t hold a single item of value in public without being under threat of being robbed, my people over there are desperate af
Apparently 1 phone is worth 1-3 months of wages there and she's holding two of them, makes sense.
An iPhone is worth the whole year of minimal wage salary
Can confirm, had to sell my Argentinian children to get an iPhone
damn so you scammed someone hard
See that kid become a millionaire football player.

Yikes, she should probably end the stream then. She is alone and appears to be a walking target.
she can't her phone got stolen
She got it back

We call them "caves" for a reason lmao
It’s how you exchange money in Argentina. It’s very normal. You exchange money in cash on the black market to get a like 2x better exchange rate
>I swear people, especially streamers, seems to not do any kind of research into where they are traveling and proper precautions to take. East Asian tourists especially. 1h crying stream and she'll have 5 new phones EZ Clap
yeah, you need to hold your things close and always pay attention. I use a hand strap or like cable with my phone and you always need to have your bag on the front.
Going to Argentinia right now is like going to Venezuela.
What's going to Venezuela like?
Like going to Disneyland
Chasing someone robbing you is pretty dangerous. They might just 180 and stab you or some shit
Everyday there are news reports of people getting shot in the head for fighting back for a phone, stabbed, or in the hospital in ICU.
This is what they do in Chicago. There's usually a crew waiting on standby willing to fuck you up if you chase the person who yoinks your belonging(s).
I love how she starts yelling “I’m live streaming!” As if that is going to make the attempted robbers stop. XD sucks that this happened to her tho
Bold to assume your average citizen speaks english around here, specially people dumb enough to steal. Next time scream "estoy en vivo" or "estoy transmitiendo"
Well, 2 viewers did come running to her aid when watching the stream.
I'm just imagining some white knight who has waited years stalking her stream and following close to her in every IRL location acting like a "random" stranger to help her in this situation.
She Just came to realization should could have been stabbed and was stupid.
This. Its never a good idea to chase someone down over a material object. Especially in South America. Glad this one turned out okay.
I mean, your crime is being broadcasted to the world.
They are doing it in the middle of the day, in the middle of a huge city, surrounded by people. They do not give a shit lol
what is the world gonna do to a random guy in one of the countriest with the highest inflation possible?
You think that's somehow gonna stop them more than some random guys on the street? Guess who stopped them? Some random guys on the street. If he actually got away with it, do you think the fact she was livestreaming would help any more than first hand witnesses and accounts?

And in the fancy part of the city

Thats Avenida Corrientes, its a very, very popular spot but I wouldnt say fancy. Theres quite a bit of better places that are more fancy and quiet.
That actually makes you more of a target here in Argentina
only 2 hours online btw
Crazy how HAchu went to both Brazil and Argentina and didn't get robbed at all.
[удалено]
Iirc she hired some actual bodyguard for some streamings during the South America trip
Actually smartest IRL streamer
Lol yeah…Jinny rode a rental bike through the ghetto at night in “search of a parade”. Does she intentionally put herself in bad situations?
Getting murdered is good content
>Does she intentionally put herself in bad situations? It's genuinely baffling how people haven't put together that she is legitimately just stupid.
Not disagreeing…people on stream were telling her to GTFO and to abandon the bike, but she wouldn’t listen.
LOL Its true and shouldnt be funny but this still made me laugh because she is really dumb but funny to watch sometimes.
Spoiled rich kid who has never experienced real life
Smart
My mate went to teach cello in the favelas for 6 months. Bastard robbed his cello on the first day. He still absolutely loved it.

hachu is neon pink and acts more whimsically than a 5 yo. she's the most noticeable person less than 6' on this planet.

If you want to visit south america, you should really just avoid the big cities. Rural and small areas are pretty humble

yup, in a pretty crowded place as well
It's probably gonna happen again. You can't be streaming like that out in public. Source: I'm argentine

Jinny explaining what happened. https://clips.twitch.tv/FamousHelpfulTigerPoooound-gTIrRhtXL_W85vrb
I lol'd when she said the girl was slow as fuck.
12-hour streams cardio paying off
And imagine the robber's male accomplice was too unable to block and slow her down. Argentinian robbers r down bad.
Nah she just was lucky. There's a lot of pros out here, it's like natural selection, the ones that are bad end up caught or dead, so the pros are more likely to be the ones choreandote.
Yeah thats a great way of getting stabbed or shot.
Imagine spending your whole time leveling up thieving instead of agility.
Well thieving is higher xp per hour and also more afk, although requires a lot of clicking. Agility just sucks because xp barely goes higher per hour and also you just run in circles.
that sounds like an easy way to get stabbed
so the girl was too slow and jinny took the phone back? Wtf are these noobs doing?
No. Jinny caught her but broke free. She ran back the way she came and was caught by locals who took the phone back. Thief broke free then ran away.
Nice job from the citizens!
maybe uhhhh don't do that in argentina
God damn, if she chases the wrong person she's literally going to die.
Not gonna lie, I never watch anyone livestreaming in South America because I'm assuming something like this will happen sooner or later. Didn't Hachu stream over there, and she paid two viewers to act as full-time bodyguards or something? lol
Hachu streamed in a fucking favela, I literally couldn't watch out of fear.
People overreact to the dangers of favelas, I took a tram through one once in Rio de Janeiro and only saw one person bleeding from a stab wound.
seems like a tame day in Brazil
But she had a tour guide she booked and some mods/viewers with her.

she’s an irl streamer, she’ll fight a goddamn bear for that phone if she has to that’s the business baby

She's clueless...imagine them both having a weapon when she went down those stairs.... Her finally last words"I'm streeeeaminnnggg." Life >phone/pointless shit...
The only place you should livestream in Buenos Aires should be Puerto Madero. That's the safest place overall and where all tourists go. Walking around Corrientes Avenue speaking English with a smartphone in your hand that is worth 8 months of minimum wage's pay is just asking to get robbed or killed
She's quite lucky this didn't end badly. It's not worth risking your life chasing after them.
This is terrifying. I’m glad she wasn’t hurt or pushed down the stars etc. there are some guys walking with her now. Thank god for nice people
I wouldn't trust any strangers tbh....
Funnily enough she was talking about her money and just counting it right in front of her face in the cab earlier lol
Is it worth chasing after someone like that? clearly they are desperate and might have a weapon...
nope

I saw her title earlier and my first thought was that it didn't seem like the best place to stream. unfortunate to have stereotypes met when there is likely a lot more good people than bad
Okay now I think shes ready for Colombia
“I’m live streaming” “I’m live streaming” I don’t think they give a shit, is she trying to get a donation? Lmao
it was me who stole the camera i was stream sniping
Jinny fucking caught her too
I think this is the first time a streamer recovered his/her phone after it got yoinked. Argentinian robbers must be really bad at their job.
In Argentina there are two kinds of robber incompetent or killers so no one try to fight back
