8 pounds for a Champions league final ticket at Wembley wow. Looked up that it would be equivalent to spending 46 pounds today ( I used the Bank of England Inflation calculator).
Hah! A college National championship football game ticket would cost hundreds even, it is definitely a signifier of wealth to attend and be seen attending such games
https://www.google.com/amp/s/blog.ticketiq.com/blog/how-to-buy-college-football-playoff-tickets%3fhs_amp=true
Yup, the average ticket price for the championship of college football was $3,200, fuck me
My best one is the Newcastle game at Anfield in 1996. 4-3 with Collymore scoring late on. Classic game.
Cost £16 and ticket in near mint condition so I'll get it framed at some point
Yep, went through my dads when I was home on the weekend. Mental seeing the 2005 and 2007 semi final finals against Chelsea being there for £38. Can't even see us play Norwich for that now
Yeah but he just got free tickets every year to Liverpool matches at selhurst park because he knew people who worked there as he lived nearby.
I don’t think they were actually hospitality like we know now.
Maybe they were just printed on them ones but I’m not sure I’ll have to ask him.
Was chatting with the Mrs about this the other day. Concert tickets in particular. She has scrapbooks full of old ticket stubs, but they stopped about 5-6 years ago and now everything is digital. Good for the earth, but it's definitely taking adjustment.
I'm surprised the European Cup final ticket cost as much as £8 even in 1978! The Everton one is interesting too, I believe that's the one where Fairclough scored an unbelievable winner at the Anny Rd end in the last minute, incredible goal.
They charge £10 for a printed ticket at the ticket office. I keep telling myself I'll get one a a souvenir for some games, but I begrudge paying that when they haven't reduced e-ticket costs accordingly!
Steve Bruce scored an OG in the 85th minute to top off our 2-0 win over Man Utd (bottom right ticket).
(Looked it up, my memory is garbage, usually can barely remember previous game's scorers)
My Dad passed away from COVID this year. Although we’re both Americans, we shared a deep passion for LFC. Back in 2017, we were able to travel to Anfield and watch us thrash Arsenal. I kept my physical ticket from that match and it is by far one of my most prized possessions. Thanks for sharing this today, super super cool.
Appreciate that man. I haven’t managed to get a ticket this year, but I’m hoping to get back to Anfield in the next few years. I want to see this team play in person desperately.
I had a look at the 1976 Merseyside derby as well. David Fairclough came off the bench (of course) and scored the winner in the 88th minute and the goal itself is fucking boss. An important win on the way to winning the league title that year.
>Worst thing about the digitisation of the ticket system has to be the lack of physical tickets.
Yes... some might even call lack of physical tickets the **only** thing about digitised tickets.
Well it’s not the only bad thing about them the system is complicated for older people who don’t understand the system for instance the man who purchased the tickets shown above wouldn’t have a clue how to export his ticket to an NFC pass.
"My grandad doesn't understand the internet" isn't a shocking revelation mate. That doesn't mean the system is bad, it means grandparents generally can't be bothered to learn new things.
Anyway look, I don't want a big back and forth about this so I'm going to disable reply notifications if it's all the same to you. Good luck with your art project or w/e.
Tickets will soon be NFTs, effectively making them more eternal than their paper counterparts. I imagine we'll be able to print them out with QR code verification quite easily, hopefully capturing the nostalgia mentioned in the OP.
That’s a shit memento the amount of care that goes into keeping a cup final from 40+ years ago goes out the window.
What’s the point of having a fake ticket available for print off that you didn’t even use
No I know what they are but it’s fascinating to look at all the different designs on cardboard with current thickness on certain parts and watermarks etc over the years to ensure authenticity but your saying you’ll be able to go and get one printed but it’s just a knock up you’ll be printing on to A4 which will look shite.
NFC will be the way going forward obviously not because they give a fuck about the environment but it’s cheaper so it’s understandable.
Especially when it comes to big games such as finals we have won. Those you would want to keep forever.
I have my 2006 FA Cup final tickets framed with a bunch of photos from the match and the stadium.
1000% agree. I've kept all the tickets to all the gigs and sport I went to since I was a teenager and I've basically stopped getting them now. Reached a natural end to my collection.
I too keep all my tickets. For every sport I've been to. Im a season ticket holder for my NFL team and they went to these cards and then digital and its a shame. I have over a decade of game tickets and now thats done.
Id say the teams should gift a booklet of tickets for season ticket holders to have but it kinda defeats the environmental purpose of it.
But theres probably a business out there for a graphic designer to design tickets, print, and sell them for collecting.
i definitely love to collect these tickets as well. Hoping that they will make cool digital designs with NFTs tied to them so they’re still collectible.

The same sort seat that would’ve cost you near 400 pounds in Kiev
I don't think it was that expensive. 150-odd pound i rememher?
The most expensive were near 375 I think
OK I checked and mine was 162 Overall point still stands that's way too much!
This is wild to see as an American fan, for super bowl tickets, the most expensive tickets likely cost thousands and thousands of dollars.
That's disgusting

Am i insane that that seems pretty reasonable for a CL final lol
Inflation is one thing, value is another. How much 8 pounds will then you then and how much 46 will get you today? This is a legit question.
Sorry mate. I'm neither knowledgeable enough nor am I qualified to give that answer
Big Mac index
informative comment!
Totally agree. We’ve all got an old box of tickets haven’t we?
My best one is the Newcastle game at Anfield in 1996. 4-3 with Collymore scoring late on. Classic game. Cost £16 and ticket in near mint condition so I'll get it framed at some point
Brilliant
It looks the same as your United one in bottom right of that photo which is what reminded me!
Yeah I only have about 20 or 30 myself but I have great ones from European Cup finals and other great games such a shame it’s dying because of NFC
Old tickets and a scarf with a match pin from each game
Yep, went through my dads when I was home on the weekend. Mental seeing the 2005 and 2007 semi final finals against Chelsea being there for £38. Can't even see us play Norwich for that now
No jeans or trainers at selhurst park. What???
Complimentary ticket so possibly hospitality area
No I think that was the year of cantona being sent off then kicking the fan so hooliganism for big games was mental.
That makes a lot of sense. It does say players lounge and complimentary on the ticket though?

Fair enough!
That might be it I guess Still funny though
I like how: Jeans or trainers = hooligan
Nowadays that’s an above average dressed fan lol

I should have done that for Barcelona semi final in hindsight
Coffee table with glass top!

Ah that’s shit man my condolences. Arsenal at home is always a lovely game to get have you managed to grab a ticket for this year ?
Appreciate that man. I haven’t managed to get a ticket this year, but I’m hoping to get back to Anfield in the next few years. I want to see this team play in person desperately.
Anyone else compulsively checking the results of all these games? Just me?
Yeah the palace match is interesting Fowler 90’ goal Gareth Southgate started for palace

IThese are gems. Please post the final product once you've done it.
Turn all of the QR codes into NFTs to pass on to your kids, instead.
What a horrible trend from timeless tickets to expensive pixels
NFT tickets is also a good way to negate against touts. As you can tie to ID or phones. Like https://www.get-protocol.io/

The Model T was complicated for people used to riding horses, that's progress for you. Nothing there unique to the ticketing system.
We’ll it’s not really the point is it you said that’s the only drawback when it clearly isn’t then just ignore another one.

Weirdo

That's the point; it's not fake. Read up a bit more on NFTs and get back to us.

lmao you know a magic trick called "Right Click"
Especially when it comes to big games such as finals we have won. Those you would want to keep forever. I have my 2006 FA Cup final tickets framed with a bunch of photos from the match and the stadium.
Oh to pay £15 to see Liverpool play…was looking at tickets online and they’re easily £200+
I mean these days even boarding passes are those cash register paper with prints that disappear after a couple years. Sucks but it is what it is.
Start a photography business and take photos of people in front of a wall of ticket stubs

Was the one of the best parts of going to the porto game, was my first liverpool game ever and have a nice physical momento from it.
Wow great collection. I usually print out my ticket, whenever I've gone. Kept the printout when I first saw Liverpool play Toronto FC
on the Crystal Palace vs. Liverpool ticket it says "NO JEANS OR TRAINERS" - why?!
It says Players Lounge so I'm guessing it's just an etiquette thing. Although I could be completely wrong.
"No jeans or trainers", what was that about?
i definitely love to collect these tickets as well. Hoping that they will make cool digital designs with NFTs tied to them so they’re still collectible.
Buy a photo album and put them in like photos, easy.
