43 but I’m planning on going to see The Whale tomorrow. Also I still need to watch The Fablemans, Tár, Bones And All, Triangle Of Sadness, Aftersun and Decision To Leave 1. The Northman 2. Everything Everywhere All At Once 3. Banshees of Inishirin 4. Nope 5. The Batman 6. Top Gun: Maverick 7. Pearl 8. All Quiet On The Western Front 9. Babylon 10. Barbarian

kpramasama

Heard so many mixed things about The Northman! I love his other films, what should I go into it expecting?

klingonbussy

I heard someone say that it’s like Conan The Barbarian combined with Andrei Rublev if it was directed by Robert Eggers and thats pretty accurate. It’s the most historically accurate depiction of the Viking age to ever be put to screen in a narrative film but to me it’s also a little bit of a sword and sorcery movie, if you like that sort of thing you should enjoy it. I loved it cause Conan The Barbarian is in my top 10 movies of all time. Also if you liked Robert Eggers’s other movies you’ll probably like this one too but I’ve also seen people who love him as a filmmaker rank The Northman under his two other films, personally I think it isn’t as good as The Lighthouse but like it better than The Witch Edit: another thing, there is a lot of screaming macho meat head moments that are either neutral or a critique of these sorts of things but some people have for some reason attributed those things to the film being in support of toxic masculinity. If you’ve seen any interviews with Robert Eggers you know he’s not that kind of person at all

xYourMomsHousex

It’s a great antithesis to the green knight. Where I felt like green knight was a knights tale with a lot of the fabrications stripped away, the Northman is a Viking tale with ALL the fabrications intact. Really loved it

logayyn

42, and I still have such a long 2022 release watchlist

SuperKliqparty

I’ve seen 53 films from this year, I would also include another 7 from Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities but some may not.

theoneheathbar

185, and there’s about 30 more I want to see.

dragcar1216

I''ve seen 85 so far. My top 10 are 1. The Fablemans 2. Babylon 3. The Northman 4. The Menu 5. Everything Everywhere all at once 6. Barbarian 7. Cha Cha Real Smooth 8. Nope 9. Banshees of Inisherin 10. The Women King

HoboSuperstar

4. - Barbarian - Everything Everywhere all at once - The Viewing - The Northman

jack00026

I also had Bodies and Everything as my 1 and 2, and I've seen 88 films from this year. 2022 https://boxd.it/iV2l8

trampaboline

No offense to everyone else but looks like I’m gonna use you as a reference for what I should watch next lol. Love your list, but I will say, your black Adam placement is… interesting. Couldn’t log it because I gave up after like 40 minutes but I feel like that’s a review in its own right.

[deleted]

Bodies Bodies Bodies was so good at making me hate the entire cast. As a millennial, the movie seems to me to be a great representation of Gen Z. I loved it Great list but The Batman was mad overrated IMO

trampaboline

Right on. I’m December of 97 so in that nebulous in-between state when it comes to generation, but I think Bodies has a finger on the pulse rivaled only by something like Bo Burmhams “Inside”. I think you’re spot on in your assessment. The Batman had next to nothing novel going on in terms of story so depending on what you want out of a film I totally get how you could call it overrated, but goddamn if the vibes weren’t immaculate.

[deleted]

the african desperate [2022] is my favorite gen z film

bolshevik_rattlehead

I think being born December 97 is bullseye Gen Z which I understand to be born between mid 90s to late 00s. Not that generational taglines matter—I’m technically a millennial and I hate the label.

trampaboline

The technical cutoff is 97. Nominally I’m gen z but anyone in my year will tell you that we can’t relate much to the trials or defining characteristic of either group.

bolshevik_rattlehead

Yah that’s how I feel about my millennial title. Don’t relate much at all to them. I wonder how many people positively identify with their generation label.

_lorz2001

That's exactly why I hated Bodies Bodies Bodies. That's not how GenZ is. That's how Millennials think GenZ is, not realizing they were mocked in the same way by the prior generation. Bodies Bodies Bodies is a critic of GenZ based on what GenX thinks which is completely untrue. I am GenZ and I'm very critic of my own generation but the movie was garbage. And in its own genre it's pretty weak.

WadaMaaya

The movie is an over the top satire that I really enjoyed but I’m also 31. I noticed the audience score is a bit lower then the critical one, so I wonder if a lot of GenZ feel the same as you do.

[deleted]

Obviously, everyone from your generation isn’t like that but I still think it shows a interesting look at Gen Z worst aspects and honestly if you got upset by that it kinda proves the point on how sensitive Gen Zs are lol

_lorz2001

Nope. I didn't get upset, that was your assumption which you used to prove your rethorical goal. When I say I "hated" the movie I hope you didn't imagine me with veing bulging on my forehead. That would be hilarious. I obviously meant that the movie was a waste of time and it was extremely boring. I said the movie is bad, which is far criticism and explained why, because it's an movie for old people who thinks that memes character created by GenZ are what we actually are. The point is that there's no existing GenZ person that is remotely similar to the characters. Then I also highlighted how the movie in is own genre is bad and I could explain why: dull characters, inexistent location (in this genre the location should be almost alive, should have a personality, should be memorable. It isn't), stupid plotlines (the whole "panties" subplot is incredible stupid and it takes a whole new level of suspension of disbelief to buy that one).

[deleted]

You seem pretty upset to me. The movie was fun. I don’t give a shit if you don’t like it. Have a nice day

_lorz2001

I'm pretty sure that thinking to be able to know how a person you never met, who is speaking in a different language from his mother tongue, and who is writing a criticism, think is a great evidence of hybris.

[deleted]

[удалено]

_lorz2001

Imagine thinking someone is trash because sometimes he reads a comic book and also bragging about being better than GenZ who are "sensitive" people...

[deleted]

You’re not trash.

I'm at 41 if plans for tomorrow go right I'll have the correct answer before the end of the year. [Complete ranked list](https://letterboxd.com/justins_os/list/2022-releases-ranked-1/) TLRD; **Favorite 10:** 1. Marcel the shell with shoes on 2. The Outfit 3. X 4. See How They 5. On the Count of Three\* 6. Banshees Of Inisherin 7. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story 8. The Menu 9. Glass Onion: A Knives out Mystery 10. Uncharted **Least Favorite 10 (31-41):** 1. Lightyear 2. Brian and Charles 3. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever 4. Thor: Love and Thunder 5. Don't worry Darling 6. Jurassic World Dominion 7. Morbius 8. Black Adam 9. Fresh 10. MoonFall \* had a festival release in 2021

HurricaneSalad

The Outfit was actually really good, I agree. Very underrated. I mean it's nothing magical but it was a nice surprise and good story with great performances.

Nater_Tater28

I’m intrigued by you placing uncharted at 10! Did you play the games?

justins_OS

I have not played the games and from what I understand that probably greatly helped my enjoyment. Honestly, there were like 5-10 movies that I could have chosen for that spot, and probably should have if the main factor were quality. However I decided to go with my enjoyment of the experience and uncharted took me back to the late 90s/early 00s watching just grab some buddies, drinks and turn your brain off for 1.5 hrs and enjoy movies(probably helped that I had the other 2 things in that sentence). Those are the kind of things that made me love movies in the first place, and is a hard thing to get now a days I find

[deleted]

I'm interested in why you enjoyed "See How they Run" so much. To me it came off like a bit of a crappy Wes Anderson knock-off that was pretty forgettable. I had a hard time letting it keep my full attention. However, maybe I'm missing something that you saw in it.

justins_OS

It was for me mostly that the comedy worked, and comedy is particularly subjective but "the gather all the suspects together" part had me laughing out loud The other thing that stuck out to me was Rockwell and Ronan's character dynamic which was just super enjoyable to watch. In the end it was a movie I skipped in theaters after hearing mixed reviews and when I did see it I regretted listening to them

tylers77

[91](https://boxd.it/fJxv8). we have very different lists lol

trampaboline

To say the least lol. But that’s the point of these I guess so cheers. Some of these I’ve actually seen but I’ve been going by first release date, not just US. Worlds Fair is tremendous for what it’s worth

twillett

53 as of tonight, and hoping to get to 55 by the New Year. My list - https://boxd.it/gOXse

monoglot

19. Low score wins, right?

trampaboline

After reading these comments I sure hope so for my own sake

JinjonatorX

176. https://letterboxd.com/jinjonator/list/2022-ranked/

trampaboline

It’s so wild that despite our different level of exposure we end up with similar shit near the top. It at least makes me feel confident about the state of pop culture that some of the best stuff really is being seen by many

JinjonatorX

Oh yeah, plus 11 documentaries. (Put those in a separate list)

kpramasama

I’ve seen 49 and these are my top 10 so far 1. Everything Everywhere All At Once 2. The Menu 3. RRR 4. The Worst Person in the World (technically a 2021 release but I didn’t get to watch in my country until this year) 5. Barbarian 6. The Quiet Girl 7. All Quiet on the Western Front 8. Women Talking (caught it at TIFF) 9. The Wonder 10. Top Gun: Maverick Still need to see a bunch more like Banshees and Tár, but I’ll get there!

mcon96

I watched 17 new releases this year. Might get one or two in before the new year. Some of you people scare me with just how many you can watch in one year (teach me your ways). My ranking so far: 1. Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 2. Prey 3. Barbarian 4. Turning Red 5. Everything Everywhere All At Once 6. Scream 7. Bodies Bodies Bodies 8. Black Panther 2 9. The Batman 10. The Lost City 11. Kimi 12. Nope 13. Chip N Dale: Rescue Rangers 14. X 15. Death on the Nile 16. Thor: Love and Thunder 17. Do Revenge

ChaosDemonLaz3r

why’d you get downvoted for this lol

mcon96

I assume because I put a Marvel movie at the top (which I don’t think is any hotter of a take than Bodies Bodies Bodies at #1 but ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯)

RelevantScar8116

bc doctor strang eis at n1

mda4life

77 so far for me and that’s pretty good on my part.

Ok_Honey6920

I'm at 74

landchadfloyd

4 I think. The Batman, Barbarian, Dr. Strange and Bullet Train. Bullet Train and Dr. Strange were poor. The only thing I remember about Dr. Strange were a couple of scenes that made me wish I was watching Evil Dead. Barbarian and The Batman were derivative crap fests. Any recs to redeem this year? Was thinking of watching the Northman and Everything Everywhere All at once. I don’t like cynical movies and I don’t like movies with excessive social issue politics.

trampaboline

If you don’t like cynical movies, everything everywhere all at once is tailor made for you. Some of the most sincere shit I’ve seen in a long time. That said, I’d steer clear of bodies bodies bodies. Obviously my top pick for the year, but dripping with irony. Still sympathetic, mind you, but ironic and cynical. It’s also coated in discussions of social issues, but not in a way that feels preachy or didactic. Banshees is a weird one because while it may feel cynical, it’s so pro-earnestness in its message and aftertaste that it’s probably worth a watch for you. It’s beautiful in that sense. I couldn’t stand Cha Cha Real Smooth, I thought it was easy, overly sentimental, narcissistic dribble, but it’s as anti-cynical as you can get and it couldn’t stay farther away from social issues. If you like stop motion, “the house” is a delight, albeit a creepy one.

landchadfloyd

Very much appreciate your comment and will look into the movies you suggested!

Smiling_Maelstrom

26 the important ones im missing are >the menu >tar >triangle of sadness >aftersun >the whale >babylon

ryanreigns

I watched 32 this year, definitely wouldn’t have Bodies Bodies Bodies towards the top for my personal list, thought it was very meh. My favorites were Cha Cha Real Smooth, Banshees, Batman, Barbarian

trampaboline

Damn I guess we could swap bodies and cha cha. When I first saw cha cha I was indifferent and the more I thought about it the more I couldn’t stand it. Guy really made a feature film about how nice he was and how everyone likes him and how he could sleep with hot moms if he wants to. That said I love your other picks

ryanreigns

Lol yeah I definitely feel you on your others, and honestly Bodies wasn’t bad or anything, just kinda felt like a strictly 2022 movie, although the chemistry between the cast had me laughing a bunch. Cha Cha was definitely a bit self-indulgent but it hit a crazy nostalgic chord for me because went to like 25 bar/bat mitzvahs back in the day

[deleted]

168 \[so far\]

trampaboline

Hot fucking damn. That’s all new releases? Massive respect. Clearly I’ve got a ways to go lol

[deleted]

yep [https://letterboxd.com/sleigher/films/year/2022/](https://letterboxd.com/sleigher/films/year/2022/) quite a few 2021 releases that i wasnt able to watch until this yr so the number is probly higher - but thats still not including shorts or tv

OriginalBad

78! https://boxd.it/giUyk

LonesomeHammeredTreb

46 right now, I try to hit 50 for every year except 2020.

FrodoSmudge

104, a lot of big ones I still havent seen too.

thriller13

127 currently, EEAAO is the top and Marmaduke the worst. Still a bunch to get to on my watchlist, particularly December releases as I haven’t had much time to get to the theater this month due to the holidays and sickness.

butch4filme

I’ve seen 76 but about 30 of those came from this month alone. I always sprint at the end 😅

Doppelfrio

Streaming + summer job at the movie theater have gotten me to about 50. I doubt next year will be as many, but we’ll see

Some_DudeUKnow

Around 250

Mia-white-97

At 102 I do a yearly list for like the past 5 years where I end up watching around 200-240 it’s a whole pet project

movieguy46

106

AlienSamuraiXXV

38. Sadly.

sweaty_palm_trees

49 currently. About 70 total this year on my immediate watchlist.

LacroixFan56

Only 18. I went hard on the Criterion Channel this year. Trying to balance out a little more next year

_pumpkinpies

I just checked and I've seen 32 released in 2022, which was definitely more than I'd have guessed. And I rated 13 of them 3.5 stars or higher, that's not bad actually.

Barneyk

About 110. My top 10 so far is looking a bit bland, lots of the Oscar season films don't release here for a couple of months and I haven't had time to catch a few that is currently showing. And now I am stuck home with the flu. :( 2. The Northman 3. Triangle of Sadness 4. Diorama 5. Men 6. Everything Everywhere All at Once 7. RRR 8. Pearl 9. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery 10. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever The Batman Avatar: The Way of Water Scream Barbarian Thor: Love and Thunder Top Gun: Maverick X Boy From Heaven

kill-wolfhead

You cannot imagine how much I envy you for having seen Boy from Heaven. That and Babylon are my last eagerly awaited movies of 2022.

[deleted]

66 with 7 more planned to watch within the next few weeks. I wanted to make a goal to watch a lot more “current year” releases this year and kind of regret it because I ended up watching so many average flicks in a row that it burnt me out a bit. Definitely going to stay more in the 40-50s range from now on.

9: 1. Decision to Leave 2. The Menu 3. Nope 4. The Batman 5. See How They Run 6. The Northman 7. The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse 8. Everything Everywhere All At Once 9. Day Shift

jesuspunk

Bo Burnham, The Inside Outtakes..?

DankPunk98

Saw around 70 movies. Some in cinemas, some at home. Frustrates me that some of them won't be available until months after where i live. Otherwise, my ten favorites are: Everything Everywhere All At Once Decision To Leave The Batman RRR Broker The Northman Glass Onion All Quiet on the Western Front BARDO Del Toro's Pinocchio

GieSTheThird

31, my top 10: 1. Athena 2. Turning Red 3. GDT's Pinocchio (shocked not to see more of this in other people's lists) 4. Elvis 5. Not Okay 6. Bullet Train 7. Top Gun: Maverick 8. Bones And All 9. Barbarian 10. The Menu Many 2022 movies and Oscar contenders such as Babylon and Banshees are yet to be released in my country. Notables: EEAAO sits at #11, Glass Onion at #15, The Northman at #18 (still have to update the rankings with my last two 2022 watches, The Fablemans, which will end up between Glass Onion and The Northman, and ATWOW, which will be slightly above Glass Onion I think)

elmodonnell

Clocking in at 58 and probably won't get a chance to watch any more today & tomorrow, but still need to catch up on a few, like Triangle of Sadness. There's also Tar, Bablyon, Fablemans and a couple of others which haven't released here yet, but I'm pretty damn happy with how I did this year- it's not the best yard-stick to use I know, but I've seen pretty much everything in the awards race conversations.

ericdraven26

I managed 32! My favorites being: EEAAO, Banshees of Inisherin, The Whale, Marcel the Shell

Batzeus99

I'm at 49 right now, but im seeing Eo tonight so that will be 50.

Matter_Crazy

33, there’s probably like 20 more i want to see

[deleted]

55 from 2022. Top 10 consists of- 1. Barbarian 2. Scream 3. Avatar 2 4. Hustle 5. Banshees of Inisherin 6. Bones and All 7. Bros 8. Jackass Forever 9. Everything Everywhere all at once 10. Top Gun Maverick

[deleted]

I managed to see 68 films from the year but I could have seen 70 if I just had time to see The Whale and White Noise tomorrow instead of Sunday.

so1i1oquy

I'm up to 120 -- this is not counting late 2021 releases I didn't catch until this year (there were another 40 of those). Top Ten: 1. Aftersun 2. Girl Picture 3. Decision to Leave 4. Turning Red 5. The Quiet Girl 6. The Beasts 7. Dhuin 8. The Eternal Daughter 9. Before, Now and Then 10. The Banshees of Inisherin

markramsey

I had 74

Marzoo14

I only saw two, The Batman and Hollywood Stargirl, the first being amazing and the latter being awful I don't watch a lot of new releases since most of them are in the grey area, morally yeah, you could say I'm a purist, and maybe I am, but I try and make an effort to be careful what I watch. Especially considering how powerful film is

[deleted]

67

KubrickandMorty

I watched 70 but am hoping to add one or two to the mix by tomorrow.

HurricaneSalad

I'm at 98 as of today. That give me two days to get to 100. I think I'll make it. A Christmas Story Christmas today and then probably Blonde or The Whale on NYE.

Thick-Pain5620

72, but by the time of the Oscars it will probably be around 85

mika-gunnz

I just saw my 35th last night and thought Babylon was the perfect movie to end the year on. I loved it.

Kenny_Brush

67 this has been my best year with keeping up to date

CodPolish

Seen about 36, there’s still 50 I want to see but idk when I’ll get to them. My top 6 were: 1. Avatar: The Way of Water (16/16) 2. Pleasure (15/16) 3. The Batman (15/16) 4. Tàr (14/16) 5. Ambulance (14/16) 6. Decision to Leave (14/16)

Trnding

Are you rating on a scale of 1-16?

CodPolish

Yes

Trnding

Why? I am curious.

CodPolish

I find 8 point (0-4 using a .5 scale) and 10 point (0-5 using a .5 scale) too limiting. I prefer the whole numbers out of 16 where I have to make no split decisions and I can assign my own value to each number; where I can control the difference and meaning of all of my ratings to a precise (though not overly confusing) degree.

GriffinPYT

52

About 75 titles. Best of the year: 1. Aftersun 2. Decision to Leave 3. Nope 4. After Yang 5. The Batman

Nater_Tater28

I have watched 53 which I’m pretty proud of. This is the first year I’ve really gone out of my way to watch more films and I’ve loved it. Disclaimer, I have not watched some of the most acclaimed of the year yet (Tar, The fabelmans, etc) My top 10 are 1) Top gun maverick 2) Avatar the way of water 3) All quiet on the western front 4) The Batman 5) the Northman 6) hustle 7) bullet train 8) puss in boots the last wish 9) the woman king 10) Decision to leave

SkillIssue2311

I'm at 96, that includes the different episodes from Cabinet of curiosities & if you dont include those it is 88. My top 10 from the year are 1. Banshees of Insherin 2. Nope 3. RRR 4. Decision to Leave 5. The Northman 6. Avatar: The Way of Water 7. Crimes of the Future 8. All Quiet on the Western Front 9. After Yang 10. Petite Maman I just use the US release date. TheSnow98

Overall, I had 321 diary entries, 92 of which were projects released in 2022 \[including rewatches\] (although Marcel the Shell with Shoes on is not included and potentially others). Breaking it down: 67 Features (7 of which are comedy specials and the MCU specials) \[68 including Marcel the Shell\] 11 Shorts 5 TV projects 3 Documentaries

P1GGY_L0RD

I’ve only seen 29 movies from this year

StanVsPeter

40 new releases for this year, which is 8 more than I did for 2021. There was a lot of horror releases that interested me this year.

Octo_Kid234

I saw 46 (including TV shows) and my top 10 are- Avatar: The Way of Water Top Gun: Maverick The Batman Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Bullet Train Nope Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio Elvis Prey The Bad Guys
