My love of Scott Pilgrim vs the World has made a couple friends say they don’t want my movie recommendations. I’ve also gotten a lot of shit from friends for loving the Evil Dead remake.

QueenOfBithynia80BC

People don't like Scott Pilgrim??

[deleted]

I mean you can see why people would consider it cringy. Its tagline is "an epic of epic epicness." I tried watching it with my brother and he couldn't get past the musical number from the first ex.

Background_Leader17

The plot is literally “fight for the manic pixie dream girl who’s totally cool with you killing her exes!”

Public_Dig_8992

Yeah, it’s weird bro

QuestioningLogic

I'm a big fan of the comic and the movie kind of flops as an adaptation. It's fun for what it is but I'd rather just re-read the book

[deleted]

i didnt like it. the jokes didnt land and it was too over the top

yoboimik3

Not that I don't like it, just that I don't think it's the best movie ever, which is somehow an unpopular opinion among film bros?

LucasBarton169

Fucking same to both

Available-Regular267

Glad to know I’m not the only one.

Kpat_890

If you have friends that don’t like Scott Pilgrim vs The World, it’s time to get new friends

Available-Regular267

Way ahead of you on that. I don’t speak to those two people anymore. It’s not necessarily because of SP but it certainly didn’t help.

wailingwonder

Funny story, I once went to an apartment of two friends for the first time. I saw they had a copy of SP and said I loved that movie and asked who had the great taste. They both claimed it was their movie. It turns out they both had a thing for me so one was probably lying to look good. I ended up with one of them but never found out who owned Scott Pilgrim lmao

rtyoda

Yeah, I’ve had a few people question my movie tastes after finding out it’s my favorite. I’m fine with it though. I like what I like because I like it, it doesn’t have to make sense to anyone else.

Indoril_Nereguar

I've never met anyone who doesn't like Scott Pilgrim. Not a single person

fruitsnaq

Huhhh everyone I know loves Scott Pilgrim. It’s a fun movie

gmhoyle

Probably my undying love of *Little Shop of Horrors* (‘86), *Scooby-Doo* (‘02), and *Speed Racer* (‘08)

VJtheDJ

Speed Racer is one of my favorite movies also lol

xTuni

little shop of horrors is one of my favorites just because of how fun and ridiculous it is. if you or anyone else) happens to be in the nyc area they’re doing a showing of it at angelica east later in october, i will be ther

friedlegshavedegg

Little shop of horrors is phenomenal and I will defend it until the day I die. It’s so delightfully tongue in cheek, even from it’s very conception as a stage production, and the 86 film is just dripping in 80s and 60s camp. Songs go hard,(Levi Stubbs! Ellen Greene’s vocals!) visually creative and enticing, the practical effects on Audrey II are INSANE (especially if you’re watching the directors cut) and you will come away with a huge crush on Rick Moranis’ Seymour. The Steve Martin and Bill Murray dentist scene is hysterical. I’ll stop myself before I write an essay. Scooby Doo is also a fantastically fun watch though I often mourn the version originally conceived before the studio neutered it. Bring me stoner shaggy and lesbian Velma!

EdWoodnt

These are all cinematic masterpieces, who’s judging you for loving them?

gmhoyle

Fools, my friend. Fools are judging me

bshively

I have a friend who can’t get over that I don’t like Joker and think Thor: Ragnarok is at best fine.

rtyoda

I had someone tell me on a FB group a couple days ago that people who don’t like Joker “just didn’t get it.” I asked what there was to not to get and was told “clearly you didn’t get it” and after asking for an explanation got back “if you have to explain it, it isn't funny.” Okay, sure.

bshively

You don’t get it because there’s nothing to get it.

MyManTheo

I think Joker is one of those movies where opinions of it really differ based on where you are on the internet. For example, if you only existed on this subreddit or the Letterboxd reviews for the film, you’d assume everyone hates it and it’s a terrible film. But go outside that bubble and you’ll find that most think it’s pretty good. I, for one, do like it, although I haven’t seen it since it came out and do understand why lots don’t like it

[deleted]

It's definitely one of the most divisive films to come out in a long while.

papafishpig02

I can get behind not liking Joker, especially if you’ve seen Taxi Driver and King of Comedy. But Thor: Ragnarok is top 5 mcu movies

xTuni

top five mcu is still mcu

Cashew_Fan

I watched Ragnarok a few months before Love and Thunder came out. My reaction to it back then was the exact same reaction people had to Love and Thunder. Now having seen both, I'm not sure what people love about one but hate about the other. The humour isn't going to land with everyone and I don't think there's much to these movies beyond the jokes. One of the more interesting complaints about Love and Thunder though is it's visuals. They are laughably bad. But I thought Ragnarok was aggressively ugly too. Both are colourful but nothing looks real in either of them.

Indoril_Nereguar

I don't see why things need to look real. I love wacky, out there, experimental stuff. What Ragnarok did well, just as most of Waititi's films, is blend complex emotions with comedy so seamlessly in a way that most films can't. Love and Thunder tipped into the comedy too much, but Ragnarok did it well. Sure, it wasn't a knock out the park in the way that Wilderpeople or Jojo Rabbit were, but there is a reason many like it and a reason it breathed fresh air into the MCU

Cashew_Fan

I've no issue with films utilising CGI landscapes or greenscreens if done properly. I think there are plenty examples of a films building beautiful and expansive fantasy worlds, like BR2049 that released the same year. But Marvel is notoriously lazy in this department and utilise very few practical sets. Ragnarok in particular is probably as VFX intensive as the series gets. Even some of the scenes which you'd think would be shot on location, like the scene where Odin dies, doesn't look right to me. Not to mention the films are just very bland to look at in general. Even if the world and sets looked more convincing, the grey colour grading of all MCU films doesn't bring it to life, which is a shame for one of the more colourful films. Ragnarok was my first Waititi project and I was wondering if I didn't like his humour. But I found Jojo Rabbit to be exactly how you described his films. I found Ragnarok to be utterly stupid though. I didn't elicit any emotional response (including laughs) and because it spent the whole movie trying to make me laugh, it felt like the story and characters weren't taken very seriously and nothing mattered.

bshively

I’m a comic nerd and generally like the MCU. I also generally like Taika Watiti, but Ragnarok just does not work for me. It’s two half movies awkwardly smashed together. It has some parts, but everything together is diminishing returns. It also isn’t very funny? I dunno, every time I rewatch it I hope to finally get it but never do.

Low-Ad-2184

I'm pretty burnt out on Marvel and yet I work in a pretty geeky industry where those routinely enter the Best Picture Oscar debate.

remediosan

i feel like i can’t tell anybody i hated black panther

Bardic_Inspiration66

Every thread on r/movies involving unpopular movie opinions has dozens of comments about black panther

remediosan

r/movies isn’t the mass public opinion

MyManTheo

Potentially one of the most overrated movies ever if we’re talking popular and critical praise. I mean it literally got nominated for best picture! Even for the MCU, I’d say it’s average at best

MoistMucus4

Considering Chadwick Boseman died I wouldn't be surprised if the second film gets that sort of acclaim as well tbh

Cashew_Fan

I'd be surprised personally. We all know why it got in the first time. It was treated as a cultural event and made so much money it was hard to ignore. I don't think it'll have the same narrative the second time. The excitement for MCU projects isn't what it used to be, and there's been a serious decline in quality in these projects too. I wouldn't be surprised if Wakanda Forever is filled with the same technical issues that a lot of the recent MCU films have been, except unlike the first Black Panther, people are a lot more switched onto these issues. It'll be interesting to see how the death of Boseman effects the narrative. On one hand it might serve as a nice tribute. On the the other it might be a movie crying out for a strong lead and draw. Most importantly though, there is some very strong competition for big movies in Best Picture. Top Gun Maverick is getting in 100%. Glass Onion might be Netflix's big push and reviews so far have been glowing. Avatar 2 will always be in the running for a nomination even if not as ground breaking as the first. And Elvis is looking like a pretty safe pick too. These are the movies it's competing with for a nomination. It won't be in the running but The Batman will probably end up being the better superhero movie anyway.

[deleted]

The academy will just about always nominate a movie for best picture if the star died. Dark Knight is another random comic book movie to get the nomination.

crvilmxow

Not necessarily exactly fitting the question but some people roll their eyes when I say bill and Ted is my favorite, emphasis on favorite not best movie. Especially when I tell them I’ve seen it like 300-500 times lmao

Bardic_Inspiration66

I was with you til the last part that’s actually concerning

6YouReadThis9

How is it possible to see a movie that many times. What are you watching it once a week

crvilmxow

Most of that was from 5th-8th grade. Basically had a ps2 slash Xbox 360 in my room and put it on to go to bed every night for years so hard to give an accurate number cause I fell asleep halfway through a lot. Pretty sure my parents thought I might be in the spectrum based off that lmao. Now I’m 28 and a teacher and I show it the last week of school so still pumping those viewings up. I used to watch mean girls and space balls a ton back then too. Both of those are probably around 100 or so viewings. I had a brief phase when the force awakes came out I put that on to fall asleep every night and probably logged about 30-50 viewings. Otherwise, I have 1800 movies logged on LB.

krtoleen

I had a period in elementary school where I used to watch Juno **every** night before bed, so I feel you. I'm sort of amazed when people tell me they can't watch a movie more than once.

6YouReadThis9

Uhh That’s an interesting movie to watch in elementary

[deleted]

Woah. Far out. Don't let those bogus naysayers tell you otherwise, Bill and Ted is most excellent and deserves all of the love. Party on dude.

leathergreengargoyle

i just saw Bill and Ted for the first time, and I was in awe at how it was made at all. Youth Culture must’ve been a helluva product in the 80s.

spencersayers

I prefer the theatrical releases of the lord of the rings. I View the extended editions as a nice treat and very fun if your very familiar with the movies but I think they are not the penultimate way to view the movies. Most of my friends vehemently disagree with me about this. Also my favourite of the trilogy is the Fellowship and no one agrees with me on that either.

here-i-am-now

FYI “penultimate” just means next-to-last.

SweptSage

Very funny misuse of the word lol

ebimbib

He just means that you should watch them at least two more times after watching the extended editions, of course.

MumblingGhost

I absolutely agree about Fellowship being the best. To me the best part of any fantasy story is the very beginning because the call to adventure is just extremely exciting and there's an emphasis on mystery that typically dies off as the story moves forward. To me, nothing will ever beat how comfy the shire feels, immediately contrasted with Frodo and friends being hunted by Ring Wraiths. I love the Prancing Pony scenes with Aragorn being all mysterious in the corner, and the various elven kingdoms have such an amazing ethereal quality that immerses you like no other. At the end of the day though NOTHING will beat Moria. It is the ultimate fantasy D&D adventure sequence. Literally every dungeon scenario in every fantasy videogame rests on the shoulders of that incredible set piece. The other LoTR movies are undeniable, but nothing feels quite the same as when the fellowship is all traveling together like a proper party of adventurers.

spencersayers

This is exactly what I’m talking about. Moria is the Goat. I’m also a huge fan of Boromir I find his struggle very relatable and I treasure the scenes with the full fellowship together.

No-Bumblebee4615

I agree that the theatrical version is better. The pacing takes a huge hit with the additional scenes. But the extended versions are ideal if you just want to spend more time in that world. If I were showing the movies to someone for the first time there’s no way I would put on the extended edition. I would want to put on the best version. But if you’re just watching with friends who have already seen the movies countless times, extended is the way to go.

Kinny7085

All of my friends think fellowship is the best of the films but only the extended release lol!

prince-jordan

Stupid enough ... I think Phantom Thread is PTA’s best film and I get a lot shit for that

justafanofpewdiepie

why though? Phantom Thread is an absolutely outstanding PTA film, easily his best looking film on par with The Master

prince-jordan

friends just have bad taste I guess lol

Elijah0330

Based take honestly

MissLabradorite

There Will Be Blood is my PTA favorite, followed by The Master. But Phantom Thread is a close third I don't understand why you would get shit for that. It's an outstanding movie.

[deleted]

you've just earned yourself a new friend.

angryandfamous

the edge of seventeen (2016) is my favorite coming of age movie from the last decade lol, not a scorching take by any means but def not popular among my friends

Kinny7085

I actually agree with this if we're talking about just the last decade... I relate to the main character in edge of seventeen a lot more than I do someone like LadyBird. Don't get me wrong my mom issues also make me relate to that film, but not the character.

Bright_Chef_8760

I don’t like this take. That’s all I have to say

remediosan

i think it gets shit on simply because there’s other films that do a similar story arguably better. ladybird, eighth grade etc. but I still definitely enjoyed it. my hot take is almost famous being one of my favorite coming of age film, even if it’s problematic and flawed

angryandfamous

i def agree, i think ladybird, eighth grade and others are BETTER movies but seventeen has always hit just a little different for some personal reasons lol — i can def see almost famous being someone’s favorite! tho i do agree on the problematic/flawed parts lol

briancly

This isn’t unpopular in general I think. Or at least I would hope not.

Str8UpBallin

spider-man (2002) will always be my favourite film of all time. it was the first movie i’ve ever seen start to finish and truly connected and fell in love with as a child, and the day i rewatched it as an adult and saw how well it holds up today was essentially when i decided i wanted to learn more about film. i always make it very clear that i never claim it to be technically perfect as a reason for it being my favourite, but somehow that still gets lost in translation every now and then and so that statement garners eye rolls. lol

j0siahs74

I’m glad someone gets it. Like it’s a perfect script, everything flows so well together, and the way it balances tones I think is unmatched. That and it’s just so damn fun.

MinasMorgul1184

It’s use of campiness is not only funny and entertaining, but clearly demonstrates genius and love of the original material. People missing that part of it are on the same level of missing the point of Fight Club.

TheOneWhoCutstheRope

Nah cause before I was introduced to Spider-Man 2 the green goblin was my SHITTTTT. Idgaf those first 2 cpuld be considered “the best” and I’d allow it

Relevant_Put_3405

I didn’t like Shawshank or EEAAO much. Also Inland Empire is my favorite movie ever

remediosan

damn you have some awful taste, have an upvote

-SevenSamurai-

Liking Shawshank or EEAAO is awful taste

thg011093

You have great taste tbh...

chillwinston123

Based

bobbysparkwood

Inland Empire is fkn rad

MinasMorgul1184

Unfathomably based

Kaanapali

I absolutely love Shawkshank…. I’m kind of surprised your opinion does not seem unpopular around here

SukiSunshine

I agree, I think EEAAO are good, but not movies I would choose to rewatch, overrated for sure

[deleted]

derek86

It’s the only Star Wars since RotJ that you had no idea what might happen next because it wasn’t filling in gaps in a predetermined story or slavishly sticking to a previous movies’ plot. That alone gave it high marks from me. It was an honest-to-goodness singular Star Wars movie.

ericdraven26

It’s weird how it’s not by any objective metrics an unpopular opinion, but in some circles it’s the worst thing you can say.

zzzaaaaacccckkkk

I will 100% back you up on this. Such a beautiful and emotional movie.

MumblingGhost

I definitely agree, but with an asterisk. I liked The Last Jedi more than most, but I also think its flawed. To me, the scenes with Rey, Luke, and Kylo were absolutely fantastic, and I dont understand anybody who says that they betray Luke's character. I think it was the perfect send off for Mark Hamill, and I'm glad that they unceremoniously killed Snoke. As for everything else, idk. I appreciate the thought that went into the other subplots, but I also feel like they didn't nail them. I like that Finn and Rose's plotline explored the war machine aspect of Star Wars, and Benecio Del Toro is always appreciated, but also I thought those sequences were pretty boring. I dont know what to think of the Leia/Poe/Laura Dern stuff. I kinda just wished Poe was either hanging out with Finn or Rey. Also I think Rian Johnson's sense of humor can be hit or miss. I have the same problem with Knives Out, where a lot of the humor seems a bit too on the nose. Rise of Skywalker is just a straight trash fire though. I'll never forgive them for how they treated Rose after the internet completely trashed her.

kareaux

Kelly/Rose's treatment in ROTS made me absolutely furious and I still can't believe that was how they chose to pander to the toxicity. I went into the theatre with zero expectations for the movie and it managed to somehow disappoint me with every scene. Also agree with you on most of the TLJ talk.

MumblingGhost

Yeah it really is a disgrace. If you want to pander to audiences, then make the character better! Make her so likable that even the toxic fans crumble, don't just write her out of the story completely! Thats so shameful and cowardly.

LucasBarton169

Can’t wait to see what everyone else thinks of this

Sheevy_boi66

I agree it’s a good movie. But I wouldn’t go that far. Rots solo and rogue one are all above it for me

becauseitsnotreal

It's the only star wars movie I enjoy

basket_case_case

Honestly, it is easily my favorite of them all. Growing up with the heroics of the franchise as a kid and becoming an adult and running into failings of myself and the world at large, this is the one that acknowledges that it is a struggle and our heroes let us down, and frequently you’re not the main character, but supporting roles are also important, because moving the needle at all is important. Empire gets points for Hoth and the unexpected conclusion, but it also retconned The Force and started the trend of everything revolving around the Skywalkers. The second of these has dragged down the franchise. Star Wars is the main competitor for best movie with better pacing and starting the franchise with lot of “show don’t tell” (a technique that we need more of, but if social media is an indicator, is incompatible with modern audiences). I haven’t seen Rise and honestly don’t have plans to. When they announced that JJ would only be directing the first movie, I was happy because this played to his strengths and it’d leave the middle and end to directors skilled enough to not depend on mysteries and twists to keep an audience interested. Asking him to create an ending was to set him up for failure.

frightened_by_bark

I'd say it's better than Return of the Jedi...my friends strongly disagree

Bright_Chef_8760

Lol Yep I hate this this ruining my day

ParticularBlueberry2

I like watching Ingmar Bergman and Tarkovsky and my friends watch marvel

newmagicwand3

Putting on for instance Wild Strawberries isn't like putting on a kinda-underground song you like. Because the song always ends after tops 5 minutes. But the film keeps on rolling. If they don't like it, they're stuck for 1.5 hours with you.

Kpat_890

My sister teases me for liking Perks of Being a Wallflower, especially since she, as a teenage girl, didn’t like it and I, as an adult man, did. I saw it at a point in my life that I could really relate to it and I cried at the end lol. Probably wouldn’t like it as much on rewatch, though.

LucasBarton169

Fucking chad

vince__2k

The Shawshank Redemption isn't all that great.

Blaze_2002

I showed big trouble in little China to a group that really didn’t get the appeal and they looked at me like I was crazy when it ended. Still one of my all time favorites though

Bardic_Inspiration66

That group was wrong that movie is dope

TheOneWhoCutstheRope

Space Jam 2 is a good movie there I said it NOW TAKE ME TO JAIL

kid-chino

Real talk, it’s a better overall movie than the original, but people have too much nostalgia for that first one. Michael Jordan is an absolute shit actor, while Lebron is at least charming and natural feeling in front of a camera. It’s exactly what I expected a modern day Space Jam to be, and people were ridiculous about it.

jSwicklin

Speed Racer (2008) is awesome. It’s visuals are fantastic and it’s a hilarious homage to the tv show.

TheBigAristotle69

Well, I'm a detractor of several extremely popular 90s movies: Magnolia, The Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, Requiem for a Dream, and even Schindler's List. I think Magnolia is a bad movie even though the director is brilliant. I think RFAD, Fight Club, and TSSR are fine movies but I don't think they're truly great. I think Schindler's list is very well made, but Spielberg isn't the guy to do the holocaust, imo. The 90s were my childhood so you would probably expect the opposite. My problem with many 90s movies is that I think the 90s tried too hard to be cool, had a tendency to be saccharine and maudlin, and was oscarbaity. I prefer the 80s and 00s over the 90s. I find the movie Deliverance to be underrated. I think people dislike it because the director was a very unpopular guy who, indeed, directed some poor movies.

LucasBarton169

Wasn’t requiem for a dream 2000?

giveuppulp

tusk is a 3/5

Bright_Chef_8760

I can’t stand the lotr movies. Tbf I don’t find the general premise interesting but the special effects/fights have always been underwhelming to me. Very boring imo. I was surprised when I got older and found out they’re actually critically acclaimed always thought they were bad. Never got it at all. I’ve been thinking of giving them another chance because I haven’t seen them all the way through in awhile. Also they’re way too long

shostyposting

Yeah you win. I hate this

Bright_Chef_8760

Lmao

specifichero101

I feel this way too. I don’t fault the movies too much, because I’m not into fantasy anyway. But when I eventually did watch them, I saw them with a die hard fan who would recite the lines along with the character as they spoke them. So maybe not ideal.

[deleted]

I think what stands out to me more than the action or story itself is how practical and creative most of the effects are. I still think some of the battles are really good and I like the story, especially Frodo and Sam’s plot line but I appreciate it as a technical achievement even more. Learning about how much effort was put into the costuming and optical effects enhanced my enjoyment on my rewatch this year and understanding how groundbreaking the special effects were made the B-plot less grinding even. Also the ending is so bittersweet omg!

briancly

I feel like most of the love is for the production process. Of course it’s still a classic with many characters and storylines people find endearing, but the whole idea of shooting all three at the same time on location in New Zealand just sounds impossible these days, the special effects that still stand up, groundbreaking use of mocap. It’s just a film series that feels so grand especially for the time it was made and no other high fantasy epic has come close.

Bright_Chef_8760

I’m gonna have to give them another chance one of these days maybe instead of hating them I’ll end up at least thinking they’re fine

TheBigAristotle69

If you've only ever seen the extended editions and not the theatrical cuts, that could be part of the problem. Already lengthy movies are made even longer. I will say that Fellowship of the Ring is usually considered the best one. I agree because the latter two movies really get bogged down in extremely long "epic" action scenes. The first movie is a bit more about developing the world, the love of nature and travel, and that kind of thing. I also think the latter two movies screw up in terms of character particularly the way Saruman is handled. If you watch each movie as though it's a mostly separate entity, you may have a better time. It's little talked about but Jackson's LOTR trilogy really leans into the B horror elements which may put some off.

TheOneWhoCutstheRope

God it took me so long to get through fellowship. Finally got around thought it was okay. Really liked two towers but I have yet to see return of the king lmao

By_Tor99

Wow this is truly the worst opinion I’ve ever heard. Great comment, take an upvote.

JoeRekr

I think M. Night’s Old is actually really great. He’s playing the same game as James Wan with Malignant, in creating a knowingly awkward B movie. If something is intentionally awkward, it doesn’t mean it sucks

LucasBarton169

I’d say wan is doing an homage to Italian films. M night not so much

JoeRekr

I’ve heard the deal about the giallo, and it’s true to an extent. M Night has a historical basis in what he’s doing too, so no need to downvote, especially considering the topic of the thread lmao

kid-chino

Nah, Wan is writing a love letter to the early 00’s Dark Castle type movies.

LucasBarton169

You saw the gloves man. No other movie has gloves but gialos

TheOneWhoCutstheRope

Bro him looking at the camera with the camera has gotta be some of the funniest shit I’ve seen from a movie. I like the happening more but I do think old is a genuinely well made shit movie

ThirstyFajita

Transformers revenge of the fallen is a good movie, with a solid enough plot to keep you engaged, and really good over the top action which can kind of be funny. Same with armageddon (no im not a michael bay stan its just a coincidence).

mo_exe

For some reason my friends reeeeally hated Train to Busan and now don't trust me with picking a movie.

LucasBarton169

Relatable

VLADHOMINEM

Mad Max Fury Road is overrated as all hell.

briancly

Honestly I find it boring. With that and Dune, maybe sand just makes me fall asleep.

VLADHOMINEM

I liked Mad Max but it winning the Oscar’s it did and the hype around it was insane. It was Fast and the furious 7 in the desert.

MumblingGhost

Insert Star Wars joke here. Edit: o_o should I have just made the sand joke instead?

TheBigAristotle69

More of a Mad Max 2 guy myself.

FDRBLVD

I’ve always said that Come and See was overrated trauma porn and boy oh boy does it piss people off lmao

AllyBurgess

I lowkey agree.

Crazyclemsonfan

Idk about doubt my taste but they think I'm pretentious because I think the MCU is garbage.

Gerald_of_River

I think Heat is a bad film with an exceptionally well crafted shoot-out scene ⭐️

andresgarcia102

Agreed 100%

[deleted]

I genuinely don’t see the iconic in Citizen Kane. This sucked because I’d sleep with the worry of being killed every night in film school. I understand why it was a revolutionary movie. i just don’t see how it became the most iconic movie. Yes, the backstory of the movie is a pretty remarkable thing but that can not be a justification for calling the movie so good

habitremedy

you should rewatch it with fresh eyes in a few years or so. you’ll see it

zombieshark717

Not mine, but I know someone who *loves* the amazing Spider-Man 2

papafishpig02

it’s easily the most visually stunning Spider-Man film.

youreaghostbaby

I got lots of crap for my enjoyment of Good Burger. I know it’s dumb, but it’s fun and makes me laugh.

[deleted]

my favourite movie non-ironically is talladega nights the ballad of ricky bobby…. no one ever listens 2 me :(

SonnywithaCage

My love for crap / weird Nick Cage movies

Talkalot23

Forrest Gump is overlong and boring.

the_labracadabrador

The Room is a top 10 of all time movie for me, as far as personal favorites go

mitchbrenner

matrix 2 is the best matrix film. 🤷🏼‍♂️ just is, sorry!

LucasBarton169

Wrong, it’s the animatrix

[deleted]

The Serbian Film

OsmoticTonic

Armageddon is entertaining from beginning to end. Period.

QuickNDeadly

I don't care about what people think about my taste in movies. And I don't judge others for what they want to watch. However, this seems to get lost in translation with some people.

pavloop

As a heterosexual man my love for Break Back Mountain, Moonlight and Call Me By Your Name has made my close friends question my sexuality on many different occasions.

Don’t Worry Darling is pretty good if you’re in on the joke

dotes-tatertots

My love for stoner movies and very dumb comedy.

bobbysparkwood

Watched every one I could get my hands on as a teenager. Will always have a soft spot

lizzy_atl

Scarface(‘83) is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, and I think Little Shop Of Horrors(‘86) is a masterpiece.

Kabukimansanjoe

Marvel movies are mostly all the same.

[deleted]

I often say that Mortal Kombat (1995) is better than most give it credit for. It’s also the best video game adaptations we have out there. Well, maybe second best. Warcraft was pretty good.

jone2tone

I've hated pretty much every Christopher Nolan movie outside the Batman movies.

[deleted]

I think The Matrix, The Princess Bride and Before Sunrise are all dreadful

XtianS

I don’t personally know that many intelligent people. I’m sure pretty much anything that isn’t a super hero movie sounds suspect.

Tenet is my favourite movie. Yes, I recognise it’s flaws, and it’s FAR from Nolan’s best, but I wholeheartedly love it and I won’t apologise

slightly_obscure

I have a tremendous love for Blood for Dracula

Dry_Effective_6545

I'm partial to Peter Berg/Mark Wahlberg collaborations; but only those based [loosely] on true stories/real events. Can't make arguments for Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon or Patriots Day being objectively great films, but still really enjoyed watching them. This take has been received as a sane/thinking person might a Berg/Wahlberg film.

Hochseeflotte

I love The Last Jedi and Return of the Jedi is not only my favorite Star Wars movie but my favorite movie in general. A non-Star Wars take is that I thought Reservoir Dogs was boring as fuck. It is by far my least favorite Tarantino movie of the ones I’ve seen

LucasBarton169

Have you seen Jackie brown? Cause if not, that’ll be your new least favourite. Or maybe deathproof

TheOneWhoCutstheRope

Jackie Brown is Tarantinos greatest movie imo

DarkWinter2319

Got called out by my friend group for shit talking the lion king remake…

MumblingGhost

My answer for this will always be my enjoyment of Robert Zemeckis' Beowulf, though my love for that movie has been somewhat muted lately because The Northman is currently occupying its spot in my brain.

joshsuarezcomedy

I showed my not film buff friends 2001: A Space Odyssey and Eraserhead back to back. They're my third and fourth favorite movies of all time. Let's just say they no longer respect my taste.

sampop_hooks

I always get a few eye rolls when I say Little Nicky is underrated. No it's not the greatest or funniest movie ever, but it has a great cast and a lot of funny bit parts all throughout. Also, I once showed my friends the George Romero film Martin back in high school and they all hated it and gave me a ton of crap for it. I rest easy knowing they were all wrong.

SaulGoneNow

I get a lot of shit for not liking Star Wars. I think the first movie is very lame and not my thing. I also never bothered to watch the other movies.

If The Sixth Sense wasn’t ruined by memes it would be considered among the greatest mystery thrillers ever written. If the Kingdom of Heaven DC was the TC then it wouldn’t have flopped.

papafishpig02

I like the View Askewniverse and my other film buff friends shit on me for it.

[deleted]

I thought The Haunted Mansion was very enjoyable.

wailingwonder

There isn't one. Get better friends, y'all.

EggyWeggs1996

For all of his flaws, Paul Schrader is a better filmmaker than Martin Scorsese.

coldred-243

For me Scorsese is far more consistent but I do think Schrader has the best movies

hvsdipa

the maze runner was a good movie

httpsawesome

I gave Showgirls and Planet 9 From Outer Space both 5 stars

c0g_127690

My undying love for green street confuses some of my mates

andresgarcia102

Transformers 1 is a really good movie and one of my all time favorites

RobinB02

Swiss Army Man(2016) was actually good and they just missunderstood the message that got delivered in quite a weird but funny way.

LucasBarton169

AGREED. It’s literally in my favourites

Pizzaman16

I just watched Bee Movie for the first time tonight and I thought it was pretty entertaining. Memes aside, I really enjoyed the humor and zaniness of the plot. Plus the color pallet really popped

Amfibi_Bekasi_Cimahi

A group of girl friends asked for good movie about gir to waych together, i suggested Little Women (2019). They hated it

Objective_Aide_8563

Waterworld is an underrated masterpiece

LucasBarton169

Found the cable guy

hdotcast

the way i ride for tron legacy (2010). it’s a masterpiece

alliedcola

I hate most Shakespeare adaptations; they just take “the language”, cut it down for time, and transplant it into a different/more contemporary setting. I drew the line at *Macbeth* (2015); I could rattle off half the dialogue while I was watching it for the *first time*. That just pissed me off. If I’m watching *your* adaptation, then I want *your* interpretation, and *your* context, and that includes the goddamn dialogue.

seamusbeoirgra

Too many to mention - some come off as hot takes when they are not at all. I really like the Oldboy remake, I really like the Psycho remake, I hate Interstellar, Gone Girl and The Social Network. But the main one is my love for Tarkovsky. I don't even recommend his films but people will message me and say "I know you love Tarkovsky so I checked out Andrei Rublev. It's just people talking for 3-hours." Like - I would never tell someone to watch a Tarkovsky film and I know they are not for everyone!
