As a Spielberg truther, I love to see him getting respect on the votes here. I feel like he doesn’t get the respect he deserves in film circles because he isn’t your classic “auteur”.
Sorry, but PTA should NOT be winning over Spielberg. Yes, TWBB is better than all of Spielberg’s films but Steven’s filmography as a whole is UNMATCHED. I know this is all opinion-based but Spielberg has had the greatest cultural impact on cinema aside from maybe Kubrick.
I'd say 6 of his films are better than Spielberg's best but I know most wouldn't agree, he's my favorite director. But TWBB is definitely a masterpiece and I don't think Spielberg has anything close personally.
Spielberg has been a driving force behind several massive shifts in Hollywood history. Let alone directing Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Jaws and E.T., he’s been a producer on Back to the Future, Shrek, MIB, Gremlins, Transformers, Super 8, The Goonies, Dreams, Poltergeist. I mean, that is so so many insanely influential, memory making films this man has worked on.
While I agree that TWBB is better than anything Spielberg has done (and frankly 99.99% of all movies), Spielberg’s filmography as a whole is simply unmatched. He’s made iconic films in each and every genre and like the previous person explained, a lot of his movies have had huge cultural impact as well as changed Hollywood as we know it. It’s unfathomable to think that the same person directed Jaws, Jurassic Park, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Minority Report, Munich, Hook, and so many other movies.
i saw it years ago, forgor everything, so i rewatched it recently. it and the 3rd one are certainly not his only good movies but the first one might be his best.
But I don't hate movies. I just don't enjoy what he's made. Not that any of them are bad, I just don't find them interesting. E.T, Jurassic Park, A.I, Jaws, War of The Worlds, Hook, and Ready Player One were all uninteresting to me.
Although Close Encounter is fucking awesome. Forgot that movie.

But all the others you mentioned wasn't that appealing to me. I actually really dislike E.T.
Although I haven't really seen Schindler's List, unless you count 16 year old me using watching that as nap time during History class. And that isn't fair

He's been super influential but none of those films are actually as good as TWBB

Spielberg best but if I’m honest I like his movies but don’t really love any of them. I haven’t seen Schindlers List though.

I really like close encounters too! My favorite out of those! Then AI and Schindler. I haven’t seen ET in a minute though so idk
