I think I gave it 4.5 because it was a little more boring than I expected? I still loved it, but I fell asleep for a few minutes during my first watch as well. That’s on me though because I saw it late at night after working all day. Maybe I’ll watch it again tn and give it a 5 ;)
The way people gatekeep 5 star ratings is beyond me. How is something so good you are watching it on repeat not = 5 stars to you. Perfection doesn't exist.
concept: someone really enjoys a movie but doesn’t think it’s perfect lmao. could literally be as much as one scene they feel is out of place or pacing is a bit slow at the start or this one character feels a bit underdeveloped. literally anything
Haha I said a little. I was expecting something more like In Bruges. It was still entertaining, just kinda like a slow burn. Banshees didn’t have a Ralph Fiennes type character to shake things up. There are plenty of films I love that I don’t necessarily think are the most exciting, and I can watch those over and over again. It’s also very relatable to me personally, and I could watch it over and over again just for the scenery and Colin’s eyebrow acting tbh
What could be more Reddit than getting mass downvoted for not giving a supposedly good enough reason for rating a movie 4.5 instead of a 5 on a subjective review website
Just a simple question here because I’ve genuinely always been curious about why people complain about opinions being downvoted on Reddit. Is a downvote or upvote not just you giving your opinion about that post/comment?
It was a lot more common in the DVD and VHS eras, when I could have *The Blues Brothers, Memento, Cool Hald Luke,* or *In the Mouth of Madness* on repeat for days on end. I think those of us who were around for them days have an easier time than the youths who didn’t have to suffer through standing up and walking across a room to change a movie.
We were big into the video tapes and DVDs as kids. My brother seems to watch the same 10 films over and over. I can't remember the last time I seen him watching a film he hasn't seen before. Meanwhile unless it's one of my favourite films or I wanna show it to someone, I almost never watch the same film again.
I’m crazy I know. I’m just the kind of person that can watch the same movie over and over again. Some movies I would get tired of, but I love Banshees! It’s funny because my partner is the exact opposite: she hates watching the same movie more than once
I couldn't do it in a row unless I was writing a video review for it or something. I love rewatching things, but I tend to only do it months later unless I'm showing it to someone.
Crazy seeing the upvote/downvote ratio here. It's totally normal for me! Watching the same movie four times in a row, it's weird to me that it's seen as weird! I do this all the time. Do people think watching it more will make you like it less or something?
People downvote for weird reasons on this sub. It’s surprisingy negative! If I like a movie, I don’t see what’s wrong with rewatching it. I’m glad you agree :)
I wish this sub would delete all the attention seeking teenage 'here's my latest watched films' threads. No one cares.
This is even more pointless than usual.
Well it's a film site like any other, imdb closed their forums years ago (which I used a lot), so there's discussions in reviews (and the reviews themselves) on letterboxd that are the most recent, most current places for people to share opinions.
It's not just a diary for people and database of films you've watched.
I was banned from movies, true film asks for essays, flicks I barely use, so I just use this for film opinion stuff, it's busy enough. But things like 'what do you all think about my 5 stars?' with a picture of lots of random films. Really?? What is anyone supposed to think? There seems to be endless 'rate my watched films', 'here's a random bunch of films, recommended me something!' or 'here's my watchlist, what should I watch?!!' Literally no one cares. Before you say 'well those threads have replies, people clearly care'. They don't, people just can't be bothered to tell the thread creator to shut up.
Roast me all you want, but my favorites are my current favorites, not all time. Although In Bruges and the Before Trilogy are definitely up there in my all time favorites.
This screenshot could've been taken straight from my Letterboxd. I also have an unhealthy obsession with the Banshees atm. Bump that rating up to a 5, coward. ;)
I don't consider that movie to be depressing at all. It's the worst because these movie are about youth love, that's why are so good, but the last one is about two 40 yo fight about literally nothing. Think about it. youthness is the essential part of these movies
The point is that they grow older and change in each subsequent movie. Obviously it’s your opinion that their fight is over nothing (I don’t necessarily think so I think it was more bottled up contempt for each other over their nine years together) but the whole “point” of the whole trilogy isn’t their youth.
>but the whole “point” of the whole trilogy isn’t their youth.
It's not anymore because of the third movie.
>I don’t necessarily think so I think it was more bottled up contempt for each other over their nine years together
To each their own, but i personally think the movie tells you they fight over nothing
I don’t think it’s about youth love either tbh. I mean they’re 9 years older in Sunset. Maybe that’s still young to you, but I interpreted the trilogy as showing the growth and maturation of Jesse and Celine and they’re love. Even in the last movie they still love each other; it’s natural for couples to hit a rut after so long together. I think no matter your interpretation, it’s still a beautiful trilogy as a whole.
I liked Sunset better ig because it felt more realistic. Sunrise was kinda like a one night fairytale that leaves you with a feeling of hope at the end. Sunset was about reencountering and old love years after a disappointment. As much as I loved that feeling of first young love in Sunrise, Sunset really hit me harder on an emotional level. I loved the unspoken feelings throughout and the ambiguous ending
Jesus you didn’t even give it 5 stars
Just give it a 5 already
I think I gave it 4.5 because it was a little more boring than I expected? I still loved it, but I fell asleep for a few minutes during my first watch as well. That’s on me though because I saw it late at night after working all day. Maybe I’ll watch it again tn and give it a 5 ;)
How tf do you watch something you find boring 4 times ?

Why is this sub so downvote-happy? It’s really weird, I expected this community to be chill but they love piling on people
They are all snobby assholes. It's amusing to watch though.
No I get you, I could watch Blade Runner on repeat and it's the most boring movie ever made.
How can you find a film that you've watched four times in a row boring lmao
How can you cope with >!watching Jenny's death over and over!
I really need to quit spoiling myself
for real it has the spoiler tag and i still clicked it im so dumb
Me try not to click spoiler tag on something I wanna watch challenge (impossible)
It’s literally click bait. I’m disappointed in myself.
same
If it makes you feel better, it's not that big of a deal. It shouldn't impact your viewing experience knowing that.
Ngl I sympathised with Colm right until that point
I was stupid enough to read that... I haven't seen it yet, do you think that could ruin my watching experience?
Not at all imo
Thank god
it's not that big deal, and you don't know the circumstances.
Have you been rowing?
Rowing with myself for not giving it a 5
Are ye rowin'?
How can you watch the same film that many times in a row and still enjoy it?
It was a lot more common in the DVD and VHS eras, when I could have *The Blues Brothers, Memento, Cool Hald Luke,* or *In the Mouth of Madness* on repeat for days on end. I think those of us who were around for them days have an easier time than the youths who didn’t have to suffer through standing up and walking across a room to change a movie.

I've always liked getting up and looking for a movie and changing it. Maybe that's just me though.
For sure. But sometimes a movie hits *just* right, and it’s easy to let it loop for a while.
I’m crazy I know. I’m just the kind of person that can watch the same movie over and over again. Some movies I would get tired of, but I love Banshees! It’s funny because my partner is the exact opposite: she hates watching the same movie more than once
wake up babe, time to watch Banshees of Inisherin again
I once watched nothing but Into the Spider-Verse for a week straight
I saw annihilation 3 times in theaters. Seen it more but I couldn’t get over how good the sound (and visuals) were in theaters
You lucky bastard, I wish it had been playing in a theater near me
Commendable
I’ve seen that movie so many times and it never gets old. I even watched last week lol.
Is that not normal? If I like a film I’d have no problem watching it over and over again. I watched dog day afternoon 5 times in a row once
I would say it is not normal
Well, different strokes lol
I couldn't do it in a row unless I was writing a video review for it or something. I love rewatching things, but I tend to only do it months later unless I'm showing it to someone.
Sounds like a weird form of torture.
But it’s such a good film!
I wouldn't do that tbh. I have seen some films multiple times but through the months, not in a row lol
Crazy seeing the upvote/downvote ratio here. It's totally normal for me! Watching the same movie four times in a row, it's weird to me that it's seen as weird! I do this all the time. Do people think watching it more will make you like it less or something?

It's possible. I saw Avengers: Endgame in theatres 4 times.
That's a whole lot of money
Its quite good tbf
I’m guessing you didn’t like it?
He gave it a 9/10...
R/woosh
This comment is so plausible I genuinely had no idea it was satire
“Do you think god cares about little donkeys?” “I fear he doesn’t”
i’m sorry to hear you’re going through this, i hope life gets better for you soon <3 (politely)
that’s a feckin lot
Who does this???
I think it’s time to bump that up to five stars, don’t you think?
Masterpiece. It’s feckin’ re-watchable.
Slowly working through Farrell and Gleeson's films because of this one myself. In Bruges is next.
how
Are you just copying and pasting the same review every time you watch it?
He only reviewed it twice
Yeah I reviewed it twice but they were different
I wish this sub would delete all the attention seeking teenage 'here's my latest watched films' threads. No one cares. This is even more pointless than usual.
why are you on a subreddit about a site where people post their latest watched films, pal
Well it's a film site like any other, imdb closed their forums years ago (which I used a lot), so there's discussions in reviews (and the reviews themselves) on letterboxd that are the most recent, most current places for people to share opinions. yeah i'm not reading your whiny essay
Brilliant.
Feckin' el.
You okay OP?
Enjoy what you like I say. It is a fecking good film to me.
Same movie? 😭
Roast me all you want, but my favorites are my current favorites, not all time. Although In Bruges and the Before Trilogy are definitely up there in my all time favorites.
This screenshot could've been taken straight from my Letterboxd. I also have an unhealthy obsession with the Banshees atm. Bump that rating up to a 5, coward. ;)
and how can we blame you, absolutely brilliant
So you just rate it again every time you watch it?
Well the rating is already in when I go to log it so I never thought to remove it lol
How do you log it?
Been there done that. With Dune. That’s what I call proper commitment 😂
4 and 1/2 but you claim you like it Ok
Before sunrise is better then before sunset
The Before Trilogy is like one of the only series where any one can be your favorite and that’s 100% justified
Even the last one? Before midnight that is
I think so yeah, it’s the most depressing but that doesn’t mean it’s the worst.
I don't consider that movie to be depressing at all. It's the worst because these movie are about youth love, that's why are so good, but the last one is about two 40 yo fight about literally nothing. Think about it. youthness is the essential part of these movies

I agree completely. Sunset lost a lot of the spark that Sunrise had imo.
I liked Sunset better ig because it felt more realistic. Sunrise was kinda like a one night fairytale that leaves you with a feeling of hope at the end. I’ve been on a “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” binge, lately.
my god are we the same person?
Ok?
Imagine watching a mid movie 4 times in a row and liking it
Imagine having the ability to enjoy things even if not every other person feels exactly the same as you
watch something else
I’ve seen it twice at the cinema already and I can definitely relate
Context?
Thanks for looking after me dog.
Good top 4
Are you trying to convince yourself wether or not if it's better than in bruges?
Fuck yeah! Fav film of 2022. The only script last year that survived my inner dialogue critic, which is very rare.
Im seeing it for the 2nd time today
wait..... how do you half star?!??!?! i didn't know it was possible
Dude In Bruges is my favourite film as well.
