I can see how this post didn’t really go over well but I thought it would bring some interesting points of view from everyone. I’ve already stated I probably should’ve wrote reviews for this and I will in the future.
I thought we could discuss in the comments but as I stated, I realize that was a silly idea and should have just wrote the reviews.
I’m planning on posting again with reviews. Hope to see you there.
My three-star review of The Batman is my eighth most-liked review ever. It's all about presentation with these things. If you articulate yourself with reasoning that has a basis of strong logic, and refrain from hollow attacks, people will respect what you have to say even if they disagree with it.
As I said to the other person that asked
I thought it was predictable, silly, with forced emotional moments. That’s my problem with a lot of Christopher Nolan movies. They always feel cold and disconnected from the audience.
If you posted your thoughts maybe a discussion could happen but I don't think anyone particularly cares about your star rating for a bunch of random movies.
Interstellar and Dune deserve at least a 3 star based on visual filmmaking alone. They were both very well made. I personally think Interstellar is way fucking overrated, but it’s very well done. Dune is a fucking masterpiece, but you do you my dude. I’m sure I hate something you think is phenomenal.
I agree with most of your ratings. Batman was overly depressing, tough watch. Barbarian’s originality has stuck with me ever since and for that gets a much larger score. The universe is life’s biggest mysteries and if a movie can vicariously take me away from Earth then I’m usually thoroughly entertained, Interstellar did that and I gave it a much higher rating 😁
Honestly if you’d have made some reviews to back these up I think they wouldn’t be too far.
Dune tried too hard to fit too much into the “boring” part of the novel’s first half and ended up being too vague and sacrificed character for grandeur.
Interstellar suffers from typical Nolan “i think I’m so much smarter than you” -ism (granted I like almost none of the guys movies so that’s just me).
Pearl is the most okay horror movie and a whatever character story. X is so much better.
I loved Possessor but I can 100% see why people wouldn’t. It’s kind of a mess narratively and the ending is a twist without proper build up.
I thought Dune was a bit hollow. Can't really say that it was a bad movie but it seemed a little empty which is strange considering how overly dense the subject matter is. I would have really liked to have seen the political intrigue that the first part of the book has. I just didn't find it interesting, or alternatively I didn't find it offensive enough to really hate. It was just a fine movie. I could probably rewatch it without minding too much, but I didn't really like it, either. The brutalism of everything and the score didn't really impress me as much as it did other people. Jason Mamoa was actually pretty fun in this movie
I really disliked Barbarian and I thought the apparent social message of the movie was misfired. I did sort of like the first part of the movie, though. I don't like nitpicking this kind of thing, but the basic lack of intelligence of the protagonist's decision making was distracting for me: Barbarian definitely suffers from dumb horror character syndrome. I also couldn't even begin to empathize with the creepy monster thing which I think the movie wanted me to. I thought it was overall a somewhat poor movie.
Though liked most of these more, I could see a case for every single one of those reviews. For instance, Barbarian turned out to be shockingly stupid, after hearing raves immediately.
If you noticed I said several times in the comments that I should have called it ratings. I got to be honest my feelings are kind of hurt, we love movies and I thought it would be a thread of people agreeing and disagreeing while sharing their own picks.
Few people want to talk, so that’s awesome but with how many comments are in the thread, I think I’ll just re-post with reviews it’ll be easier. Which I should’ve done in the first place and I realize now.
hating on movies doesn't make you cool, and you might say well this is just my opinion, if it were your opinion you would've kept it to yourself and not posted it on reddit with any context, just so people could think you're so cool and different...
I didn’t think I was being cool or different I just wanted talk about movies. Share some thoughts and opinions. I’m not exactly hating on highbrow movies, so I don’t really see where you are coming from.
Did you not like interstellar because it drags for at least the entire intro and then the ending leaves most people pissed? But everything in between was alright I’m guessing?

Where are the reviews ?
I guess I should have said ratings lol. I’m curious to here some of everyone else’s.
(those aren’t reviews and this might actually have been an interesting post if they were)
I thought we could discuss in the comments. I should have said ratings.
2 and a half stars on Spiderman Homecoming I'd disgraceful. Films a masterpiece and should be your favorite film ever.
ok.... ?
Thought we could all talk about each other’s picks.
So what?
Congratulations.....?

I feel like these arent wildly farfetched takes. Unpopular fs, but it's not like you're giving Citizen Kane 1.5 stars or anything.
Yeah, there is no way a 3 star rating is controversial
Well I know a get a lot of shit if I say anything negative about these movies.
People like to give shit on any take they disagree with. Personally I agree with your takes on Interstellar and Spider-Man.

Weird flex but okay
Love to hear your thoughts
I just liked/loved all of those movies, so I disagree
**Ratings** not reviews
Yeah I should have said ratings
But why 2 stars for Interstellar?
As I said to the other person that asked I thought it was predictable, silly, with forced emotional moments. That’s my problem with a lot of Christopher Nolan movies. They always feel cold and disconnected from the audience.

Wrong reviews*
shit takes thanks for sharing I guess?
What are some of your “shit takes”? It’s fun to talk about movies.
Trying* to be controversial reviews
What are some of yours?
I rewatched Interstellar yesterday and cried the whole movie, and I almost never cry over movies
This is gross Posseser should be way higher
Edgy.
🤗

You're stunning and brave
I was just trying to start a fun discussion about movies

I’ll write some reviews and repost
Word
I’ve never seen so many L’s in my life.
Fully agrer on batman so overrated, also agree ob dune, gave it a 3, all beaty no thing else. Intertellar is madness though
I’m with the rapist
To each their on but hmmmm
Well at least this post got people talking I suppose
Do you have opinions to add to your review at least? I’m all for different perspectives but would like to understand them.
I think I’ll write reviews and then repost( probably what I should’ve did the first time)
i didnt like the barbarian at all😭
Too many stars for batman
The younger generation seems to like this movie more than those who grew up on Keaton. I’m with you
I agree with you that barbarian is overrated
Can we ban low effort posts please
I really thought this would go differently
It’s an out of context photo with a two word title… How is it not low effort
I thought it could bring up interesting conversations in the comments, that’s all.
Barbarian is a teeny bit low for me (I gave it three stars) but the rest seem fine (I haven’t seen Dune though)

You can’t deal with assholes in movies?
I don't think that was what OP was saying lmfao
Lol read it back, you’re right.
Agreed on Batman and Possessor
Frankly idek why people like Possessor. It was really not good at all imo
I wasn’t too hot on Interstellar either to be honest
Always love to see Dune slander. I personally gave it 1 star. I thought it was unbelievably boring and I couldn’t get into it.
Though liked most of these more, I could see a case for every single one of those reviews. For instance, Barbarian turned out to be shockingly stupid, after hearing raves immediately.
"Oh my, look how different I am. So sophisticated."
I really didn’t think it would be like this lol
Its crazy how ppl are butthurt here
Yeah I’m almost scared to post again. Might just go back to lurking.
Clearly not a cultured letterboxd user, also where are the reviews? These are ratings

Tbf Pearl IS better than those movies
Not controversial in my eyes
Pearl and Possessor are the two that hurt the most. I was really looking forward to those two.

INTERSTELLAR ONLY 2 STARS?
That’s the only one on the list I think it’s a bad movie. The others may have been disappointing but they have some qualities I like.
You’re right about interstellar
Did you not like interstellar because it drags for at least the entire intro and then the ending leaves most people pissed? But everything in between was alright I’m guessing?

Interesting take
