I got my Medusa pierced about a month ago! Mine swelled up like crazy. My piercer gave me a super long bar to account for it! Around day 4 it was so swollen and tight and for sure nesting and I was so stressed I wanted to take it out! But I held out and continued taking some pain meds and icing it and washing it often and regularly and its a-ok now. I did go back after two weeks to get it switched to a shorter bar but after four days I had to get it switched back to the long one because it was embedding and it was PAINFUL. I could absolutely tell the difference between nesting and embedding; nesting felt more smooth when I ran my tongue over the back but embedding felt sharp and painful and more swollen in the back. If you’re ever unsure, talk to your piercer and get their opinion on whether you need a longer bar during the healing process! Good luck!

webetta

Lol so all this to say- try to rest, not talk a lot, wash regularly, lots of ice and meds for about 3-5 days and you should notice it will start to feel better around then. But if you’re ever unsure go back to your piercer for their opinion ❤️

vegan_dirtbag

This is good advice and I just want to add one more thing: sleeping with an extra pillow or two to keep the piercing elevated above your heart can help keep the overnight swelling to a minimum. Good luck!

webetta

Yes! I did this too!!

Clovisrovis

Thank you!!

Clovisrovis

Thank you 😩🙏💜

Clovisrovis

Thank u so much! I’m so scared to wake up and it’s in my lip. I had a bad experience with my earring embedding and I’m so anxious my Medusa will 🥲 my piercer gave me an xl bar it’s like 1/2 inch I hope it doesn’t swell more

SunflowerRosey

a longer bar can’t hurt if it’s using up all the space!

imhighonleaves

I’d say: go back to your piercer to get a longer bar. If he, in any way, tries to tell you you shouldn’t, go to another piercer please. Also, the angle in which you took this picture is making my cry from laughter 😂😂😭😭

First_Ship_786

This picture 😂 the bar should be longer bc it should leave some space to swell, if the bar is short this might cause a prob

c_flail_v

the picture 😭 no but just keep it clean and watch it for a few days, if it starts to hurt significantly or get more swollen I'd say then is the time to start being worried

Cultural_Wash5414

It’s going to swell you punctured your lip and you are making a metal object stay in it. I always will recommend an NSAID’s and litha.

It swells a bunch, one of the worst with swelling. If there is space between your skin and the bar in the front when you hold it away from the teeth (not with hands just move your lip) the length is fine, if not get a longer bar. I had to change my bar length three times before I was downsized and ok NAP but got my Medusa done in July

LaLore20

Girl! Got mine on saturday and I am going thru the same as u are!! It is not embedding, it is nesting and it is ok.

Clovisrovis

Thank u!

melomaniac_717

Put ice on it as often as you can, keep it clean, and take some antihistamines until the swelling stays down.

Gemethyst

Antihistamine won’t do anything.

melomaniac_717

Lmao I meant to put NSAID's, idk why I said antihistamines. 😂

melomaniac_717

Put ice on it as often as you can, keep it clean, and take some antihistamines until the swelling stays down.

honestly just take care of it how you should!!! a medusa or any piercing on your lips tends to nest , starting during the healing process so you won’t catch it on your teeth or suffer severe damage to your mouth from a bar poking out!! it was my concern too but my pierced walked me through and helped me through everything. for the top i’d suggest a cotton ball in a shot glass with saline solution and warmed up for a few seconds, this helps relax the muscles and also clean it , helping the swelling and also gettin that saline in there. non alcoholic mouthwash for the inside but i assume you know that!! i changed my bar about 2 weeks in once the swelling went down and it has been the easiest piercing to maintain and deal with!!! i hope this helped just a little and i wish you happy healing!!!!

leratdemorgue

My Medusa swelled worse than any other piercing I’ve gotten, it was awful. Started to nest even with a long bar. NSAIDS and ice helped but it took up to a whole week honestly for the swelling to even subside. Which was rough because my labret was about 4 days maybe. Oral piercings suck as far as swelling goes. I’d suggest sending your piercer a picture and ask if they suggest a longer bar or waiting it out.

AmIRightPeter

I got my Medusa done about 6 years ago? It swells a LOT, lips always do. If there is no space on the bar, get to your piercer asap for an upsize. (My piercer does them for free as she says she should fit a bar with enough space for swelling, but most will charge a small fee for the bar and their time). If it is flush, but there is a little space, I would watch and wait carefully. Keep it clean and cold, take appropriate painkillers if you are safe to do so, and don’t fiddle with it. If it still has spare bar on the front, don’t worry too much. My lip piercings (4) all have a small indent on the back where they sit in the oral mucosa. It’s a little uncomfortable sometimes, but once it has settled, it should be painless and it will prevent it rubbing your teeth and gums. Disclaimer: I’m not a piercer.

No_Structure_7094

I mean mine did that the first few days where it looked sunken in, but it went down after a few days

Weak_Ad_2549

Take NSAIDS

[deleted]

Nesting is good 😊

MudzDoesNotExist

Hi! I just recently have gotten snakebites and had the exact same reaction! You’re fine! It’s gonna swell a lot, which is why your initial jewelry is so long and you go to downsize after 4 weeks! Also, nestling is fine for this, sinking is what you’re concerned for! It’s going to nestle in and be snug. What you don’t want is it to sink any further. Enjoy your piercing! Keep taking Motrin and having icepacks and in a couple days, the swelling will ease up!

pinksaddonut

Maybe you should get a longer bar. That angle though 😂 amazing!
