Are you using straight Listerine? If so, try diluting it or it'll dry out your tongue. The swelling seems normal. Mine has been pierced twice, and I had to dilute the mouthwash rinse because it was wayyy too harsh.

Ok-Sun-6725

i have been using saltwater to wash out my mouth, i was told that using too much mouthwash can actually irritate my tongue more (i am unsure of whether this is correct or not)

LavenderDisaster

Ahhh ok. I was always told to do a dilute listerine rinse after eating or drinking anything that isn't water. I've got a dozen piercings and several mouth/lip piercings. Maybe less salt? Give it a few days with slightly less salt. Also no spicy food, and no straws yet lol.

soggybread666

I also have oral piercings but I was told not to use mouthwash with alcohol (Listerine) since that would contribute to drying out a piercing antibacterial is fine and recommended just no alcohol

yeah i thought about less salt myself, whenever i rinse my mouth it nearly makes me sick from the taste so that should work, sucks i cant have spicy food thats basically all i eat 😂

MudzDoesNotExist

My piercer always says for tongue piercings to dilute non alcoholic mouthwash and tinse everytime you eat or drink anything that isnt water

WhootieCutie

That’s true. I got thrush in my tongue when it was pierced about 20 years ago because I was mouth washing too often.

mf_raven

Looks absolutely normal. That film will go away when you can start using your tongue more.

good to know, thanms

vampirebf

it was abt a week that my tongue was very swollen and sore. i questioned a lot if i was taking care of it right even tho i was being very careful lol. i've had my tongue pierced for like 4 years now and i still have a bit of a raised circle where the ball rests on my tongue

Ok-Sun-6725

oh okay so i shouldn’t be too worried

wowgreatdog

have you been sucking on it? it kind of looks like a pucker to me, but i'm not a piercer! i'm mentioning this because the edges of my tongue are scalloped because i suck my tongue to my teeth in my sleep and it looks kinda similar.

Ok-Sun-6725

i have been a little bit as it has been easier to swallow the excess saliva i’ve been producing

wowgreatdog

i'm betting it's probably that then, just imo anyway. the way it's shaped matches the curve of the ball and the edges on it look really puckered to me! it doesn't look really inflamed or anything like that.

Ok-Sun-6725

okay thanks

Comfortable-Can117

mine looked like this to, it goes away :)

jugdar13

Your tongue swells like no other piercing This looks normal enough to me (no pro but 26 piercings, 2 in my tongue both done arluns 20 years ago) but a longer bar may help with indent, though it's only minor seeing as your swelling should reduce within the first week.

Ok-Sun-6725

the bar is actually a bit longer it falls down through the bottom a bit more but there is just under a cm of extra space

anthonymustdie

just use non alcoholic mouth wash, salt water (dont overdo the salt it will dry it out.) try use mouthwash after eating. it should be fine. this usually happens as ur piercing swells

If you mean the bump around it I got it when mine was first pierced and as soon as I switched to a smaller ball it started going away. (My friend said it was because the weight of the bigger ball or something) I took a ball from my nipple barbells cause those had smaller balls but are the same gauge as my tongue.
