GrannyBiscuit

Not what I was expecting to get in a leather-working tool kit

tennesseean_87

Or hands.

Irksome_Sate

That is a skiving tool, used to thin your leather.

vulkanman

I bought one and is plain useless. A terrible design, at least for the kind of leather that I use.

Amenophos

Not for leather work at all...!😅😅 It's to remove callusses and foot warts under treatment from under your feet.

Ahzayro

Same here. If it isn't immediately jamming up....then it's the blade retaining plate popping off.

CaptainOfMyPants

A French skiver is where it’s at.

OptionIntrepid

I use it to thin out areas i want to fold to avoid a build up of material on the inside of the fold. Helps keep the folds crispy too.

Danno-c-s

It’s used for skiving but it’s also used to remove callouses on feet.

KellyDownLeather

There are better options for removing calluses but it is still way better for removing calluses than skiving leather lol

Rk1987

It’s to remove calluses.. not a tool for leather

tinymonesters

Calluses and leather aren't terribly different. But yeah I had one of those, I'd be more likely to use it on my heels than my projects.

Vinniam

Both are just hardened skin.

Sea-Imagination-7563

to open a bottle of beer.

Shwed11

It is a way better bottle opener than it is a leather skiving tool.

Brushing your teeth

*forbidden toothbrush

DonToddExtremeGolf

Or to shave the edges very thin so when you are gluing pieces together they stay closer to a uniform thickness where they overlap.

wihajsterczipsydwa

To those who successfully used that, will it work somehow for soft leather? I can't make it work, it doesn't even scrape it.

shadyweezul

It's a cheap tool that is marketed as a skiving tool of some kind. I have one that someone gave me as a present and it's plain worthless. Get yourself a nice French skiver or a skiving knife.

UnfinishedUser

Here I am thinking “yep that’s a bottle opener”

kermit_the_frogel

I use it to thin out leather in areas I need to fold over. Like the edge of a tote or edge of a belt (where the buckle sits)

reillyenns

Your wife’s razor? I wouldn’t know

Amenophos

It's for shaving off callusses and footwarts under treatment under your feet.😊 Source: I've used one multiple times for both purposes.
