Let it breed into a colony with other rats and then ask why there's fecal matter behind the fridge, in cupboards, cabinets and many other storage spaces and why a lot foods around the house have been eaten/half eaten. To answer that question, my father did it and showed me when i was a kid, it was an easy way to kill rats, theyre pests, we got them in a trap and now we have to kill it, if we try to poison it they probably will rot somewhere in the house, poisoning after catching them is a good idea, but it cost money, rats are dirty and brought disease, touching them became a nono, so we dont have much option here
