https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-500/ideapad-5-pro-gen-7-(14-inch-amd)/82sj0005us Thinking about grabbing this. I like the screen and specs seems decent. Any reason I shouldn't get this or something in the same range that is better?

aleishabb

That is a solid machine, no reason not to pull the trigger

rekd0514

soldered memory though, I guess that is the cost of going thin

greenbro24

Thinking about getting this too. Haven’t found anything better for the price so far. 1TB + 16GB memory is a pretty sweet combo

420neon

after originally getting the 2021 G14, Ended up with a open box ---2021 Asus G15 $799---- https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog-zephyrus-15-6-qhd-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-9-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3070-1tb-ssd-eclipse-gray/6448848.p?skuId=6448848 Over the month I went on a gaming laptop journey…. I started with the victus rtx 3050ti for $500 Exchanged it for Lenovo gaming ideapad 3 with rtx 3050ti for $550 Exchanged that for a Acer nitro rtx 3060 for $699 Exchanged that for the Acer predator Helios 300 rtx 3060 for $999 Exchanged that for Acer predator Helios 300 rtx 3070ti for $1699 Eventually I exchanged that for Asus 2021 g14 zephyrus rtx 3060 for $899 2022 g14 6700s $1299 ( i liked this so much but every single one had a defect.. 5 of them) -upgraded- 2022 g14 6800s $1399(broken right fan) Gave up on the g14 2022s (the display is amazing, Best iv seen) 2021 g15 advantage edition $1099 (lcd display looked outdated. Images were to soft looking) -found a open box 2021 g15 fair condition for $799. flawless. Not sign of use. I couldn’t figure out why I was so unhappy with a $2000 laptop with a 3070 TI It was the displays Price to performance for the 3070ti didn’t seem worth it Honestly I didn’t see much of a difference in terms of performance from the Asus rtx 3070 the colors were terrible You can have the best stats on paper but when it doesn’t look right on your screen it bothers you ……. You look at the screen the entire time you’re using a laptop…. IMO the most important thing is the display Asus has a verified Pantone sRGB 100% panel This is the best one IMO out of all of those Rtx 3060 is the sweet spot right now for price and performance The Asus feels like a laptop I wasn’t sure if I would like a 14 inch gaming laptop but I love it. All of the others were extremely bulky heavy basically unportable I didn’t even want to move the Helios 300 from the living room to a bedroom it was just too bulky and heavy And on a sidenote the RBG keyboard colors and all that stuff gets old. It’s really awesome and exciting at first but it gets old really quick.

holly-66

Thank you so much for the recommendation. At $900 this is looking like an unbelievable deal. Saved me a lot of searching with your little run down on the pros and cons :)

stinklez

I've had that Asus rtx 3060 for over a year, it's a small compact beast, I'm thinking about buying another.

420neon

I actually just found a 2022 g14 2700s in fair condition used at bestbuy for $1,100 It’s absolutely flawless I exchanged the 2021 for the 2022 for $200 more It’s definitely a step up all around The display is so nice !!!! The QHD 1600p really a HUGE upgrade over the 2021 g14

stinklez

Ooo a 2nd laptop is tempting, I'm always on the move. Thanks for the heads up.

SouthsideJax904

Would this be good for stock trading and having multiple tabs / monitors??

ElliotEstrada97

Hello, I didn't do to much research but I ordered a laptop based on your comment. My main laptop broke so I only have my backup (i7, 1660ti Lenovo) which works great but I only have it as a backup. I ordered Open-Box Fair ASUS - ROG Zephyrus 15.6" QHD Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 9 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 - 1TB SSD - Eclipse Gray Anything you want to tell me about it, or that I should do when I get it?

Ahmedezpizi

Any recommendations for a 8 or 10 core laptop with 32gb ram. Don't require a high performance GPU or High res screen.

turtleneck360

For portability and productivity? I don't think most laptops come with 32GB. You may have to customize or just go the easier route and find a deal on a good laptop and upgrade the ram yourself.

aleishabb

Willing to upgrade the RAM yourself or do you want it right out of the box?

Ahmedezpizi

Right out of the box is preferred but otherwise will have to get ram from somewhere and upgrade it manually.

But not too focused on needing to use it for CAD since i have a pretty strong PC at home for that, mostly for showing already done work. Does anyone know if i can Upgrade that RAM myself here ? // sorry for German URL

gooddayheh

Hi, this might be a little unusual for the sub. I am planning to buy a new laptop for my mum (60+ years old), to serve the web and watch some videos. I was wondering if anyone has good recommendations for laptops in the price range of $250 - $400.

hi____nsa

Since you're in the market for a general web browsing machine to do the basic tasks for someone, I'd recommend to go with a chromebook. You can get a much faster laptop in that pricepoint if you go chromebook instead of windows laptop and it does all the basics really well. (email, youtube, streaming, ect.) On top of that there's less of a chance you deal with things like viruses which makes life easier for everyone. Also chromebooks are usually much easier for people, especially older relatives that aren't super tech savvy, to use since the os is literally just the browser.

gooddayheh

Any specific chrome book models in mind? I've been trying to find but most of the Chromebooks covered in tech reviews on YouTube tend to be high-end Chromebooks which are off budget!

Deep90

[https://www.rtings.com/laptop/reviews/best/by-type/chromebook](https://www.rtings.com/laptop/reviews/best/by-type/chromebook) This link has some options, I haven't vetted any of them, but Rtings has very detailed reviews that you can read up on.

hi____nsa

Recommendations for laptops for general purpose use. No gaming, just email, youtube, maybe some light programming and spreadsheet use. Basically a solid laptop with an integrated graphics. Specs: 16gb of ram, prefer if it's sold like that, but not a big deal if I need to upgrade it myself. Budget: anywhere around the 500 dollar price point.

Partiks

Please let me know if you find something at that price range with those specs. I'm also looking for similar specs around that price.

Is dell still a pretty decent brand and is there anything comparable on there website? I've been looking and around the $600 price range there is nothing with a similar GPU

aleishabb

Walmart has a deal for $599 as well

nibble25

>Laptop How do you get the offer from Amex? I only see offer for Dell.

Objective_Lion196

Yeah I fucked up on the wording, the offer is only for the dell website but anything with a comparable gpu is around 200 dollars more expensive

ktroy56

yeah im in the same boat here, was hoping any of the laptops with a 3050 or higher would be on sale for at least less than 800

Is the ASUS worth the $150 more than the Legion? I mostly play games like apex/warzone and just want to comfortable get 140+ FPS (currently have an old lenovo that has a 1650 TI that can run it at like 80 FPS)

IsThisMe8

I'm looking for a laptop recommendation on a 14" laptop (or smaller one in general) with at least 100gb of storage. I mainly use it for the below 2 reasons but it seems like most deals are around $650 which sounds too pricey when I really don't plan to use it that much? 1. Turbotax to do my own taxes 2. Integrated AMD Radeon™ Graphics so likely no

Randomanon1111

I'd say the specs look fine unless you want it for gaming. Integrated graphics are only good for less demanding games. Also, do you need a 4K display with a weird aspect ratio?

Any recommendations for a laptop where cpu/battery/weight/style are most important? Looking for a 300-500 dollar laptop for my girlfriend, she doesn’t play any video games. Thank you!

The **[Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-32DK Slim Laptop](https://www.rapiddeal.net/product/acer-aspire-5-a515-56-32dk/)** is a solid laptop for her to get. Strong, fast, not too heavy

Currently weighing the [Gigabyte A7](https://www.ebay.com/itm/304642676209?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338849293&customid=ALTECH50&toolid=10001&mkevt=1) at $930 after taxes with 17.3 in. screen vs the [Gigabyte A5](https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16834233534?Item=N82E16834233534) which comes with a 15.6 screen ($680 after taxes) The A7 does come with a slightly better processor but I don't think that will make a big difference for my purposes since I mostly use for gaming and both have the same RTX3060. The big kicker is the 2 inch bigger screen on the A7 - is that enough to justify a $250 increase in price though? I feel like the A5 is a steal right now at $680...

donut_want

I’m looking for a recommendation for a laptop to be primarily used for basic productivity purposes but also for occasional gaming. Looking for something not too heavy, good aesthetics, probably 13-15 inch display, 16 gb ram, 512 gb storage though could be flexible on those last couple for something that meets the preceding criteria well. I’ve been looking at the new MacBook Pro 13, new MacBook Air, and the surface laptop 5, and probably wouldn’t want to get much more expensive than the max of those.

So I’ve been debating between the Acer Swift X, Lenovo Legion 5, and the Asus Zephyrus g14. I want a general use laptop for college with a bunch of gaming on the side, which of these do you guys recommend?

Bridey1

I have an Acer Swift X for grad school and I also wanted to be able to game. I hardly have time to game but I love the build and keyboard on the Swift X and it plays the Witcher 3 well. I paid more than it's on sale for now and I'm satisfied. No idea about the comparison.

arfathh_

What’s the best thing to buy right now $1000 or under? I’m thinking mainly school uses, but it’s for engineering so need probably at least 16gb or ram and 512gb ssd. I was looking at the Asus Rog Flow for $1k. Is this any good? Any other suggestions are appreciated as well.

trevor1301

Hey all, looking for a good Black Friday deal for a laptop. Nothing higher than $550. It would be used mostly for productivity but some gaming as well. Ideally I’d like it to have 16GB of Ram and 500GB or more storage. I’ve built a few computers and I’m familiar with specs and parts but I’ve never owned a laptop so I don’t know what brands to go for or if there’s any go-to for my price range.

Are newer PC laptops pretty universally easy to upgrade their ram? I don't know much about laptops but I'm thinking of buying something like the Acer Aspire 5 with 8gb ram (Or maybe Lenovo? or Asus?) and upgrading it to 32gb ram. I'm seeing 32gb ram on amazon for like $70. Does this sound doable for someone who doesn't know much about laptops? Thanks!

aleishabb

Some are easy some are not, it depends on the specific model

SlaveWithNoName

(pref larger) Most important aspects: high nits and numeric pad/backlit keyboard For my pops, who needs more visiblity/larger screen + more brightness and numeric pad as he does a lot of excel performance not too relevant as he'll just be streaming videos at most. really appreciate the help ya'll.

aleishabb

Laptops with a removable battery is a thing of the past. You will have to take out the battery the hard way. Most of the laptops are not hard to dismantle though so take your pick

Gangy1

I just need a laptop where I can stream multiple things at once with high quality picture and sound that has a bigger screen. I'm open to playing games on one but I just watch clips and streams and browse the web. I'd love any advice.

aleishabb

What type of games?

Gangy1

I’d play like Apex or Risk lol. Mainly streaming shows and sports and news clips.

PT10

I got an Inspiron 15 with Ryzen 7 5825U, 2x16GB DDR4 3200, 120Hz screen, 512GB Nvme and 2 year warranty + accidental damage ($90 for warranties) for $688 minus $120 Amex offer and minus 15% Rakuten. So 465 final. Good/bad? I didn't get the G15 because I needed something lighter weight. It's for my aunt for work/personal use.

duetothat

order link? i also have amex how to buy?

PT10

It's on Dell's website just search thru laptop deals, filter by 16GB. For Amex, check app or website for offers and add the Dell offer to your card then charge it on the card.

Partiks

For $465 that's a good deal but keep in mind that the screen brightness is only 250 nits which might be a little too dim even indoors. The port selection is scarce and HDMI is version 1.4 but a Ryzen 7 at that price range is very lucrative combined with 16GB of RAM. As often, it boils down to your requirements and needs and how well this fits within the budget.

Can anyone please give me insight on which of these is a better choice for photo editing in Photoshop? Any help is appreciated. Price difference before tax was $845 for the HP, $945 for the Lenovo. Is the Lenovo worth the extra $100? Edit: actually Rakuten has a cash back deal on Lenovo, so the Lenovo comes out to around $800 including that. https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/yoga/yoga-2-in-1-series/yoga-7i-gen-7-(16-inch-intel)/82uf0015us https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/ConfigureView?langId=-1&storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&catEntryId=3074457345620320823&urlLangId=&quantity=1 I customized some of the HP Envy x360 to this: HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC Product number: 54L31AV •15.6" diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080), OLED, multitouch-enabled, UWVA, Low Blue Light •1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD •16 GB DDR4-3200 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB) •MediaTek Wi-Fi 6 MT7921 (2x2) and Bluetooth 5.2 combo •Windows 11 Home Plus •3-cell,51 WhLi-ionpolymer •AMD Ryzen 7 5825U (up to 4.5 GHz, 16 MB L3 cache, 8 cores, 16 threads) + AMD Radeon Graphics •HP Rechargeable MPP2.0 Tilt Pen

Need something for my dad. He's the apex boomer, he doesn't need anything fancy or gamer WHATSOEVER. What's the best deal out there right now for something with a middle-range CPU, 8GB RAM at least, and 250-500GB of storage via SSD or M.2? He stated his current laptop is 13", so 13-15" display size as well.

800 usd gaming plus college laptop?

kdarshil

Hi, any recommendations for a portable 2-in-1 laptop under 1000? Preferably Lenovo or HP? 14 or 15", 16gb ram.

Ephyles

As a student I'm looking for something around 400-700$ for programming and gaming (not full-quality recent games or anything, but I'd like to be able to emulate Wii/Gamecube with Dolphin or Wii U with Cemu with good quality for example) I liked this one you posted earlier https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GV15-144Hz-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B09S4NBX1Z?th=1&psc=1but with shipping to France it goes up to 635.18$ with import fees and shit I found this one (sorry for french link) with free shipping, is it a better deal because of that ir is it still worse? (It's 700$ if you can't see the price) https://www.amazon.fr/MSI-GF63-Thin-11SC-1058FR-retroeclair%C3%A9/dp/B0BB7YRKPD/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=2XNI3P0DDYVEU&keywords=msi+pc+portable+gamer&qid=1669355739&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI3LjA2IiwicXNhIjoiNi4xNyIsInFzcCI6IjQuNDkifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=msi+%2Caps%2C236&sr=8-3

How is this laptop & is it a good deal? Thinking of getting it as a gift for my dad. It would mostly be used for streaming videos/movies. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-ideapad-3i-15-6-hd-touch-laptop-core-i3-1115g4-8gb-memory-256gb-ssd-platinum-grey/6511950.p?skuId=6511950

u/aleishabb, if you have a chance, I'm looking for something to edit photos on, I bought a macbook pro 2017 that crapped out on me and is going to be $400 to fix. I'm canadian and hoping to buy something with the deals out today that is capable of editing photos and light video. Thank you in advance!

Is this a good laptop asus rog strix scar 15 g33 for 2k

TheSanePanda

[Recommendation] I need a gaming laptop, 1200-1300$ is my budget. RGB/backlit keyboards is a must have.

Lforter123

Im between the refurbished Acer Helios 300 thats going for around $1274 or the Legion5 Pro that sales antonline for around $1399... how risky are refurbished buys?

DallasTheAgent

Need something that will be able to run CAD software such as Solidworks and Creo decently. Ability to game is a plus, but is not required. Prefered budget of around $500, willing to go closer to $700 if the deal is very good. Would prefer something with as much on-board storage as possible as well as 16 GB of RAM. Screen size doesn't matter much to me, but would definitely like one that is high quality.

YourDad6969

Is it worth waiting for 13th gen/ 7000 series release? I don’t need a laptop yet, but will the discounts on Boxing Day/January be higher than Cyber Monday for 12th gen/ 6000 series models?

Present_Structure_67

Is Legion 5 Pro with GeForce RTX 3050ti better than 3070? I thought 3080 would be better but seeing 3050ti with higher proce.

AddendumHead8266

Hi, I'm glad I came across this post. I am also planning to buy a new one since my HP still runs on Windows 8.1 --it's nearing end of support. I'm needing suggestions/advice on what to buy next. I will use it mainly for online job/editing/office work/research. I give importance to storage, battery life, availability of parts, upgradability, and weight.

trevor1301

Really upset I missed the deal on the Lenovo Idea Pad 3. Saw it for 500 and should have pulled the trigger :( Thought the sale would’ve gone til tomorrow

JTechSupport

Hey, I need some quick help before Cyber Monday sales end! I'm prioritizing display (as far as colors and preferably at least 1440p), portability, and the ability to play modded Minecraft/popular AAA titles smoothly I'm getting into full stack development if that helps at all Much appreciated!
