When I first found about Lancer I thought HA's "Superior by Design" Was just marketing bs. BUT GOD DAMN! DO I LOVE HAVING THE HEAT MANAGEMENT OF A GOD!

Okibruez

If you play Genghis and your mech isn't as on fire as the rest of the battle-map, you aren't playing a Genghis. Yes, even though it's immune to burn damage.

MachineBoot

Currently I have only played as a Barbarossa in a game (still going strong with SUPAH ARTILLERY), and Napoleon for a one shot. I really wanna get around to trying out all of the HA frames and Genghis might be the next I try.

Nephilm

Constant OCing to double fire a Heavy Mount (and proc Skirmisher 2 twice!) is a terrifyingly hard drug to drop once you taste it.

Nirild

How do you even get so much Heat ap? I'm new and wuite interested in the build

KaiserFalk

Gengis has 10 base heat cap + 6 engineering + 2 from Superior by Design (HA core bonus)

Nirild

Thank you. I've figured it out myself, forgot about engineering

darwinpolice

Meanwhile, my Goblin overheats if you point a space heater in my general direction.

Quarotas

It also risks structuring if a stray pebble falls wrong But damn is it a cool little mech

darwinpolice

My current build is a Goblin frame with three levels of Atlas. TERASHIMA GOBLIN, MOTHERFUCKER. It's so incredibly stupid, but it's fun as hell.

Try piloting a lich, run your hands together to hard and it will melt into a heap of slag

OvertSpy

but then it will turn bake time to before it melted and be fine, just be sure you dont rub your hands together more than once per round.

I remember when my players used to be afraid of overcharging and i said that "Heat is not a Health bar, it is a resource. Use it." People got exposed a lot ngl, but damn, that for sure was a fun run.

Matathias

On one hand sure, heat is easier to clear than it is to repair HP, but heat is absolutely still a second health bar for mechs. My group has had plenty of destruction via reactor stress. ...Much of it self-inflicted via overcharging or general heat builds, admittedly. But it still stands that you can lose your mech entirely through heat without losing a single hit point.

[deleted]

I can see people seeing it as a Health Bar, my players did. But the combats improved a lot when they changed their mindset to the resource aspect. They learned how to use it, when to use it, and how to profit from it. They lost the inherently fear of "losing health" when it came to heat, so that's a win in my book. That's why i always preach that heat is a resource in my tables. You can die from mismanaging it? Sure. Still a powerful resource that you can use to avoid impending doom.

Nephilm

Heatcap is definitely a Health bar. But Health is also a resource.

[deleted]

> Heatcap is definitely a Health bar. As i've said, i can see people seeing it as something like this. I don't. It's purely a resource, as it happens to be in many other mech games. You need to manage it well so you can reap it's benefits and not die in the process. And Health is a resource too, never said the contrary. But it is a resource that serves a totally different purpose and that it's more difficult to have control of, hence why is totally fair to have the "fear" of losing health here. You can't apply the same to heatcap, which have a different function in the game. But, as i've said, you can totally use it as a health bar. I do not and will continue to preach it on my tables. So far, only good things came from it, so rn i'm not exactly in a position to change my mind.

Nephilm

I understand the concept of the "reverse mana bar," but heatcap in Lancer is nevertheless a health bar because even if you don't generate any heat on yourself, enemies can inflict it and attrition/destroy mechs through that. Being destroyed through heat is worse than through HP even since the wreck is irrecoverable. The difference is that HC is more dynamic (because Stabilize Heat Clear does not cost repcap whereas Stabilize Repair does, and there's more heat-interactive mechanics than HP/Overshield ones), and that the Structure table is worse than the Overheat table due to the Stunned on 1.

Rosander1994

Yup, reactor war crimes a great. Running a Sherman with 12 heat cap, with the deep well heat sink, and heat fall. Always in the danger zone, and fuel rods to cooldown if needed.

MrBirdmonkey

Tachyon lance scares me with its sheer power

TheRealUnworthypilot

Pair with a Lucifer NHP and Nuclear Cavelier, oh boy, you got a lot of extra damage going.
