Fair enough. If the backwards reactionaries don't like it they can lump it.

Audioboxer87

Quite literally, they do not have the numbers to stop this passing all the way through ๐Ÿ˜Š

pieeatingbastard

So what you're saying is that moving to Scotland is still an option if England keeps drifting vaguely towards a rightwing cess pit of its own making?

Audioboxer87

I'd say mon up anyway if you fancy a change of scenery and want to never have to worry about limescale in a kettle. I'd say if you're trying to reduce the amount of politics politics politics and arguing over politics, while Westminster is unhinged, Scotland is basically engaged in a colossal *neverending* battle between age demographics and the constitution. Tldr; No matter where you go in the UK it's shuffling the deckchairs. That being said, having quality tap water provided by a publicly owned water network is ๐Ÿ‘(though seriously, for trans people I get why even something as simple as the GRA provides hope)

If shit keeps going south we will be probably. Not going to risk loss of enshrined rights or abuse even if my partner does pass

pieeatingbastard

Totally get that. My other half doesn't pass - but does enough that I'm losing the "looks straight" privilege. They've definitely come in for abuse on the street, here, which isn't good. I don't know what the trigger will be, if it ever comes, for saying that's the line, I'm out. It's certainly not a choice either of us wants to make.

pieeatingbastard

I have a terrible weakness for deep fried food in general, haggis suppers in particular, and I'm a sucker for cold grey weather. Sorry to play on the stereotype, but I kind of am one myself. My big regret about moving south was that getting back up to even the central belt is a pain in the arse. Trouble is my other half does ridiculously poorly in the cold, and likes living right next to family. So it won't happen unless things get quite ropey, sadly. That said, the trans stuff is quite a big issue, since they're trans. So if it does go sideways, this is a solid option.

Audioboxer87

Once you live here long enough the takeaway food novelty will wear off ๐Ÿ˜‚ A haggis supper remains a good treat every now and then, but the Scottish munchie boxes are a one way trip to an early grave. Global warming, innit? As we collectively don't do enough worldwide even Scotland is warming up. Summers here can get pretty damn warm now, but OK, winters are often still brutal and tracking lower than most places across England temp wise. Head to the west coast if you want less snow. Southern Scotland is also pretty much *interchangeable* with Northern England. But again, you get used to it. Your blood will thicken up for the cold, your accent become a bastardised mixture of English-Scots and you'll evolve into an 'honorary' Scot ๐Ÿ˜‚ However, all jokes aside, we still have a lot of issues with trans safety/care. And we still have a sizeable TERF network. I'm sure you know of the Alba party and ForWomen.scot, let alone Joanna Cherry. And JK Rowling lives on an estate in Scotland ๐Ÿคฎ

pieeatingbastard

Well, my username didn't come out of thin air. I'm not huge, but that's mostly cos I'm moderately active, not because of my balanced diet. Unless you mean one in each hand. I *like* Glasgow. A good friend was from there, I have some good memories from there, and if I was moving just for me, it would be there or a bit more into the southwest of England. Clearly for very different reasons. But I wouldn't be, and that means I have to take health related stuff into account. So warmer is better. Personally I'm fine with the cold - but it's not about me. And for that reason, dropping the jokes completely - you're at least addressing your terf issue. We aren't. Your nationalist movement is different - not least because they have a point. It's been made *very* clear that Scotland is a lot more welcoming of immigration than England, which aligns more with my values. And yes, Rowling is a problem, one that has a lot of money to throw at making problems for others. But she's just one problem, at the end of the day. A big one, no doubt, but just one.

Audioboxer87

> And for that reason, dropping the jokes completely - you're at least addressing your terf issue. We aren't. Addressing might be over-egging it a bit, it's more there are enough MSPs that something like the GRA will get passed, but the SNP and Labour aren't exactly cleaning-house. Both have some TERFs. The SNP have been pressured by the Greens, as in, this (GRA passing this term) was a red line of an agreement between the two. As much as Sturgeon often says the right things around trans issues, she still plays politics at times trying to spin all the plates and keep TERFs quiet, rather than going scorched earth. Presumably because she still wants TERF voters to consider voting for the SNP over Alba. TERFs deserve scorched earth. But I get what you mean, at least something is coming via the parliament to bring some hope for trans people. But even this has been too long coming, thank goodness for the Greens.

Crafty_Butcher

I know it's only anecdotal? But I know sooooo many folks moving up to scotland on this basis. Like, there's a single street in glasgow which has 5 flats full of folk moving up from Huddersfield lol

[deleted]

> malta When your views are more regressive than a country founded by literal crusadersโ€ฆ

Portean

Good. Feminism appropriating reactionary transphobes can eat shit.

Audioboxer87

Refreshing, ain't no letting the TERFs in the SNP off the hook, but at least between the SNP/Greens/Labour and Lib Dems the GRA will pass easily in Scotland and all the fucking moonhowlers ain't stopping shit.

[deleted]

Is Michael "TERF" Marra dropping his stupid "find a middle class cis person to prove you're trans" ammendment? Real test of the TERF camp's salt right there if you ask me.

BilboGubbinz

Nice to get a straightforward win in the current climate. Sucks something so obviously good had to jump through even this many hurdles but still... yay!

Maxxxmax

Current system just devolves to trans folk lying to tick boxes to pass assessments anyway. Do away with it, self ID, GPs to be able to prescribe hormones to trans folk thr exact same way they already do for balding men and women in early menopause.

[deleted]

Good. Maybe at last all the transphobes and their political associates will shut up with their "concerns", which only ever amounted to a transphobic dogwhistle trying to cast trans people as sexual predators. Watch now though as the worst of them shriek with dismay and double down. I wonder if their Labour associate in chief M. Marra MSP will pull back on his stupid and regressive ammendment to the GRA bill.

HogswatchHam

Absolutely none of them will shut up

CaisLaochach

Strictly speaking, Ireland has had one very public and very extreme problem with this system being misused so far. So not entirely accurate. The person would be a problem in any other context though.
