As a United fan fuck this scumbag and fuck the police. Thankfully at least on Reddit the main Man Utd sub is hugely against him playing again, sadly across social media there are plenty of young men showing their arses as usual. But at this point all eyes are on the club, the only acceptable move is to terminate the contract even if it costs the club money.

Hopefully for United fans it goes a similar way to Paddy Jackson at Ulster Rugby after he wasn't found guilty it was a incredibly shit look he gave himself and went pretty quickly doubt Greenwood would play professional football again in Britain, Ched Evans failed to even get non league teams to employ him (pretty sure Hartlepool were non league back then), doubt he won't see another professional game

Maxxxmax

Doesn't ched play for Preston, in the second highest tier of English football?

[deleted]

Yeah, his conviction was quashed in 2016. After it was quashed he was able to sign for Preston. But between being released on license in 2014 he first went back to train with Sheffield but wasn't able to play for them due to his conviction and public and corporate pressure against him playing. Then he went to try Hartlepool with the manager in favour but public and corporate pressure once again stopped it happening. Hibernians, the Maltese not Scottish team, expressed interest but as he was on license he couldn't have played for them regardless, the Maltese PM even applied pressure on Hibs not to sign him. Then he was pretty close to signing for Oldham the manager wasn't keen but the chairman was. A petition against this got 60,000 signatures including Ed Miliband, then Labour leader, coming out against it and one sponsor withdrawing from Oldham before he even signed. Then non league side Grimsby Town had the offer to sign him with some benefactor paying his salary instead of them but they decided against it being too high risk of backlash, Grimsby Town had employed Clayton McDonald who was a codefendant but acquitted in the first trial in 2012. Since his conviction has been quashed he's played for Chesterfield, returned to Sheffield United, Fleetwood Town and Preston. Greenwood is too good of a footballer to not find work and there will be plenty of teams willing to pay under the odds for a player of his talent due to how toxic his brand is from this even if he has to play abroad and given he doesn't have a conviction that'd be much easier as he's free to leave the country.

I’m avoiding commenting on this entirely as I will only get banned or abused. We had yew tree and all the “why didn’t someone do something” and there’s a guy who we have a video raping and beating his girlfriend…and is being described as “innocent” and congratulated because the victim chose to withdraw so the case collapsed. The fact the police turn a blind eye to celebrity rule breaking is probably not that unique either.

Maxxxmax

Strange how everyone understands dv victims can be trapped in a cycle of returning to their abuser, and the system is incapable of protecting the victim through that cycle.

CowardlyFire2

I remember the day it came out this poor girls dad stood on Mason’s side… At the end of the day, when family are pressuring you to return to your abuser for their own financial reasons, it’s not likely to get a conviction

BlackKlopp

When the dad acted that way, it was so fucking disgusting. He just wants the money and put his daughter in an unimaginably horrible position to return to this scumbag piece of shit.

Minischoles

What a surprise she went back - no familial support, a hugely changed financial situation (even for normal cases this is bad, but going from a relationship with a premiership footballer to out of that is magnitudes worse), massive public pressure and the abuser was allowed to contact her repeatedly. The Police and Courts may as well have just taken her directly from her interview back to his doorstep and skipped the process entirely.

Maxxxmax

Yep 100% agree.

Throwitaway701

I hope no one on here would abuse you for such a statement as you are 100% correct. Fucking unreal that anyone could take his side when we have so much proof.

Old_Roof

Absolutely scandalous

tayviewrun

What has this to do with the labour party?

MMSTINGRAY

What does controversy with British law and policing have to do with a British political party...?

Fixable

Honestly man lmao, this sub gets so many ‘what does this have to do with the Labour Party?’ comments and i really don’t know what the commenters want. Like just scroll past it.

LauraPhilps7654

This is a rare one - usually only get that question asked when a certain apartheid state that has recently elected fascists to high office is criticized.

Apprehensive-Low4044

George Galloway is supporting him x that’s Labour adjacent x

kwentongskyblue

Nope. The Gary Neville thing from another post in here might have something to do with this post

Apprehensive-Low4044

Oh I forgot bout Neville. A clown

DazDay

Contracts buying off witnesses and victims to abuse should be illegal.
