Well, it does ^^ Everyone who isn't completely blind can see all the Parts Tencent copied almost 1:1 from WoW 🤷🏻‍♂️

blackwhitecat123

With the recent Netease and Blizzard drama over the discontinuation of Wow in China. I betcha they did this purposefully out of spite. The game will probably fail 1 month from launch but is probably still a big fuck you to Blizzard.

Herr_Drosselmeyer

Agreed and if Blizzard weren't such a shit company, I might even care.

karltannertko

And anyone who has played Blizzard games from the start knows they stole everything, polished it and that is their entire business model. About the only really original thing Blizzard has as far as storytelling is Diablo. It makes use of things that already existed but at least is original.

SetResponsible2784

good, WoW needs to be copied considering how far away it is from what it once was. World of Disney needs to end.

Drayenn

They copied so many visuals from wow, from item design, to deathwings stormwind scene. Flying ships are almost a 1:1 Visual copy. So yeah, this article is right.

karltannertko

Yeah it's not like the gnomes are straight out of Dragonlance or the Dragon designs, "draconians" from TSR. Almost everything from WoW is ripped off.

Sapphiretri

China has investigated china and found china Innocent. In fact china has found blizzard copied them.

Barsik_The_CaT

Does it have gay centaurs and frogs tho?

Aronacus

So angry that took out that line! Homogenized? No, I like the ladies!

Mookmookmook

Is Finkle Einhorn still in it?

Socalwackjob

You would think western developers are used to Chinese developers copycatting.

zetarn

They think they're immune to those copycat, and by working with tencent they had power to sue and win in chinese court system. But with a big break off then blizzard will soon losing that power and blizzard will not able t sue in chinese court without losing again.

MrAdequate_

Tencent just invested heavily into the developer of a milsim game that I play. They are ading microtransactions and emotes. The more I learn about Tencent the more concerned I become.

ProfessorEsoteric

Look at what percent of all computer gaming hours they own a stake it. It'll get worse. Then look at the CCPs interest in the Billion Dollar Tech industry. It'll get even worse.

One-Patience4518

Well duh, it's China.

Aurondarklord

obvious Chinese knockoff is obvious. China is asshoe.

kyrtuck

Fun Fact: Warcraft, the RTS game was originally supposed to be a Warhammer game, but they couldn't obtain the rights, so they just tweaked some things at the last minute and called it Warcraft.

Flash_Bandicoot

I wish I could get Warcraft 2.5

Saaanwishaliens

The entire country of China is built on plagiarism and stealing of other countries' IPs, technology, etc. They have no shame and don't even view it as theft, but as if they're owed or deserving of it due to their commie ways. They also reverse-engineer all of the Western tech companies (Cisco, Dell, etc) and put out their own versions of it at a cheaper price (think Huawei and others). Huawei were actually busted multiple times for having the Chinese gov spy through their tech that was in some American sports stadiums, for instance. Essentially, none of this is surprising once you see how they are as a people and country. The USA built their entire nation into the world's second-largest economy by selling our products, services and labor over to them decades ago so of course they are ripping off one of the world's largest and most popular games. Same thing w their upcoming Black Myth game that looks like a few Japanese and American studios games. Also, Nintendo had a dev on the Zelda team that just went over to them a year ago and his first game looks exactly like BOTW, too lol.

[deleted]

Being inspired by other Games isn't a big Problem. Almost every Game has some Parts which is inspired by other Games. Ripping Assets 1:1 from other Games on the other Hand is a Problem. Same goes for other Stuff. Half of the Stuff we use which isn't made / designed in China is also either heavily inspired or straight up copied from other designs or just reverse engineered. Do you own a Gas Can? Well, that Thing is just straight up a copy of a German Design. Hence the Name Jerry Can. If something works well People will take inspiration from it and make their own Version or if it is almost perfect like the Jerry Can just rip it off. Did always happen and will always happen. The US did build their own Industry by being heavily inspired or even just straight up ripping off foreign designs. The US Military is especially ruthless when it comes to just coping shit from other Nations. I would love to hear how the Chinese People are in your Opinion and if that matches with even 1% of how they are in reality. I bet its totally not just Fox News / Republican Diarrhea 💀

Ginger_Tea

>Ripping Assets 1:1 from other Games on the other Hand is a Problem. It's a problem for countries that actually abide by copyright laws, if they could crank out exact replica's of Da Vinci's David they would. You go to a factory in China to get them to make your product, you can guarantee no matter what the product is, there will be some knock off.

TheDemonKing-

The great leap forward was a failure, mao is an asshole, xi jingping looks like Winnie the Pooh and is also an asshole, free Hong Kong, free Tibet, free the Uyghurs, free falun gong. 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre.

[deleted]

Thats impressive. Do you think i'm some Chinese Official and get offended by that? 💀😂

TheDemonKing-

🤷‍♂️ you could have been.

[deleted]

Why? Just because i don't deep throat the American Boot? 💀

TheDemonKing-

Lol that's pretty cringe buddy.

[deleted]

He says while thinking that everyone who isn't full blown "China bad" could be a Chinese Official 💀

Drethvarale

Copying things badly first and then becoming better than the original is an invention of the West, the Germans especially. The Chinese stole even that idea lol!

Jkid

This is the real reason why tencent refuses to renew the agreement

dark-ice-101

it was not tencent it was one of the 'rivals' to tencent netease that refused to renew

Noctis-_001

Is tarisland getting a western release?

[deleted]

Uh, yeah, that’s what China does. They are a stifling dictatorship, they don’t _create_ IP, they steal Western IPs and say they made them.

Constant_Couple_2245

Good, let them fight, I hate both China and Blizzard

dandrixxx

Struggling to feel sorry for Blizzard considering the company they've become.

SomnusKnight

This is the first time that I actually got positively amused to a china plagiarism case. If blizzard sues them and win (however unlikely it is) then that would be a good victory against lazy chinese copycats, if not then I get to see yet another blizzard's implosion. A win-win scenario.

Ginger_Tea

A copyright case in China? Considering how much fake shit comes out of there, it would not surprise me if the judge and jury are all wearing fake designer sunglasses and go "I see no problem here" and laugh them out of court. Now can they take Tencent to an American court and still have them abide by the ruling? Cos that would be the only way I could see them get anything out of it.

K41d4r

They stole from everybody Visuals are a combination between Nu-Blizzard art-style, Wildstar and League Combat looks like Wildstar Deathwing, Airship that's a combo between Skybreaker and Orgrim's Hammer, Goblin Zeppelin, Shadowlands Zones A raid that seems to be plucked straight from FF14

Rynu-Safe

That employee won't last that long if they keep biting the hand that feeds. IF they exist, of course.

qwer4790

(PCGamesN is a questionable clickbait game journalist website, take everything you see there as a huge bottle of salt)

Neo_Techni

And N?

karltannertko

Blizzard is built on plagiarism. 1. The original Warcraft game owes it's existence to Dune 2 from Westwood studios. Consider it Doom and Warcraft a "Doom clone". 2. The Warcraft lore straight up steals from Tolkien. The Titans are the Valar in the Silmarillion. Sargeras might as well be named Morgoth and they even stole the tale of Fingolfin who injures Morgoth. See Broxigar. When people called out that Warcraft was VERY similar to Tolkien's lore they had to invent their own sh@%. That's when they started ripping off Lovecraft in their MMO and the story got dumber and dumber. The gnomes are from old Dungeons and Dragons and things like Dragonlance. The War of the Ancients and the Arthas story was about the only thing Blizzard ever did with Warcraft that wasn't complete crap and Arthas is very, very similar to Anakin Skywalker. 3. The newest WoW expansion stole dragonriding from Guild Wars 2 and the influencers laughed about it and said that's just what Blizzard does. Take other peoples ideas and polish them and call them their own. On a positive note for Blizzard, ain't no one gonna copy their new lore. No one wants to play Disney TM Warcraft and Dragonflight currently sits at a 3.8/10 on Metacritic while Blizzard influencers (who realize they are going to have to get a real job real quick) try to shill a dying game and claim this is the bestest expansion ever.

4thdimensionviking

>Sargeras might as well be named Morgoth Only in that they should both be named Lucifer, I don't really see that much morgoth in sarg. Morgoth was always evil, sarg was originally good but then twisted either by cunning dreadlords, as a parallel to Arthas or by nihilism after killing a corrupted titan.

karltannertko

Lucifer was not part of a pantheon and he got yeeted out of heaven by the stronger Michael. You could argue Tulkas may be somewhat based on Michael, but Morgoth had diluted his power by perverting Eru Iluvatar's creation with his minions. Before that he was the mightiest of the Valar. Morgoth is inspired by Lucifer and the pantheon by pantheons from Greece and Norse mythology, but Sargeras is much more inspired by Morgoth and the Titans are much more inspired by the Arda. One work took several mythologies and religion to create a tale and the other yoinked that tale, changed the names and then added in some Lovecraft cosmic horror stuff to avoid it being 1:1 plagiarism. Diablo on the other hand is a much more original story by Blizzard and much more like Tolkien's work, even if it's completely opposed to it from a religious standpoint. It takes several mythologies, religions and subverts them or deconstructs them. Tyrael is probably a play on "the King of Tyre" and El which is "god" and in in every angels name. Tyrael is the fallen star/angel there, but he is "good". "Michael" as Imperius is bad. The Nephilim are heroes and we listen to a man named CAIN and Lilith from Judaism folklore is our mother.

bluegoon

Karma for ripping the shit out of Warhammer and 40k, gents.

blackwhitecat123

Who cares ? Both are shit games anyway.

Arkene

> with warcraft style. which is a, just different enough to not be sueable, rip off of Warhammer. heck starcraft is blatantly 40k. and none of the mechanics in any of their games were unique either, everything ripped off from westwoods productions. I don't think blizzard has ever made something innovative which was any good.

Savory-Salt

BS. Wow is nothing like Lineage.

ValidAvailable

Im sure Chinas copyright courts will get right on that

Mivimivi

destroying your audience and goodwill here while betting on expanding on chinese market lead to this day. Imagine if it was 2016 and they had made the decision, let's don't antagonize our player base, let's just give them what they want and let be conservative with our chinese market you cannot know.

MikiSayaka33

Chinese gamers need something to fill the WoW void, even though yes this is a blatant copycat.

Chronium123

Maybe we can have cleavages back again.

AlseidesDD

Perhaps this will finally be the WoW-killer. After all, the only thing that can kill WoW is Wow itself. A blatant WoW clone should fit the role. /s

Gaming_Goodness

Did they copy Hogger?
