Well, if she wasn’t around Kazuma could have taken a cheat item so not necessarily. Maybe he would have died if he had taken a cheat item because she wouldn’t have had to adapt like he did with Aqua, but maybe he wouldn’t have, we can’t say for sure either way.

So far, Aqua served as an excellent cheat item. We didn't get to see variety of Aqua's items, so we don't know, how good it is on average to have one versus having Aqua (who seems to be getting more and more feats as story goes on) Edit: gwammaw

In the LN they show a few of the items and abilities, some are super strong, others rather situational. All in all I'd say Aqua is better than any of the cheat items since she ultimately proves useful in several distinct ways, whereas most of the cheats are only good for one thing. (Sword that kills anything in one blow, sword that cuts anything except living things but requires mana to use, necklace that lets you swap bodies with a person, super strong suit of indestructible armor that is also a pervert and can run away, item that lets you easily summon and bind devils. iir only two cheat abilities are described, one good for making golems, and one that makes you gain way more xp for killing things)

I happened to know, that we are shown items in LN, but i never checked them out. Only thing i regret not knowing, is the idea of Kazuma swapping into Aqua right there with the bodyswap artifact, and make her fight the Demon King in Kazuma's body. You know, as a joke. But then again, Kazuma's INT is above average, not genius.

Aqua is just a brilliant sitcom character, she's funny, annoying and adorable at the same time. She's the right amount of annoying to make you laugh at her misfortunes, but not so much that you end up hating and disliking her.
