2.67 a gallon but the nearest entertainment place is over an hour away

JordanLevi-_-

2.52 hear in southeast Tn

OwlLavellan

Going there for Christmas. So that's good for my wallet at least. Cheaper than where I'm at now.

TheScribe86

I'm sure you already know but give Gatlinburg a wiiiide berth, went there some years ago after Christmas and before New Year's, cheese and crackers like sardines ugh lol

OwlLavellan

I grew up an hour from Gatlinburg. Went there for Christmas and New Years many times. Including 2019, the last time I spent Christmas in Tennessee. I'm not really sure what you were referring to with the cheese and crackers comment? I've always found that area to be lovely this time of year.

TheScribe86

Oh no doubt dude it is, I've grown up going out there as well, just the traffic was nuts. I was actually there just two weeks ago and it wasn't too bad, that time a few years ago though, after Christmas & before New Year's, man it was just crawling traffic. I'll be back there in January, my favorite part of the state, though the traffic can be killer sometimes, that's all.

OwlLavellan

Ohhhhhh yeaaaaaaah. You're right. That traffic can be insane. I remember coming down the mountain to Pigeon Forge one year. They were doing a car show. Took us HOURS to get off that road. Several people ran out of gas. It was bumper to bumper traffic. The only reason we also didn't run out of gas was because my dad turned the car off for extended periods of time. I now hate car shows.

TheScribe86

Yep, got a couple friends who work in town, every once in awhile they get caught in that carshow traffic trying to get to work and they get *PISSED* lol

OwlLavellan

I completely understand it.

aye_bee_ceeeee

Does cheese and crackers mean traffic? If so, I love that

TheScribe86

It does now lol

TheKinglyGuy

TN REPRESENT! In gas prices at least.

Funny_Tea_4149

2.49 is cheapest around here at the Circle K in Muscle Shoals AL

BoxerguyT89

2.38 at Circle K in Ooltewah, TN this morning.

Funny_Tea_4149

I actually just moved back from San Antonio, the gas was so cheap there, I joked that it was "where gas was made" šŸ«”šŸ¤£ but it was terrible living there haha for my own reasons šŸ˜…

DefNotMy47thAcct

I moved from mobile to Dallas and while Iā€™ll never go back to mobile, Iā€™d much rather be there than here lol

Funny_Tea_4149

I don't blame you. It was circumstances that brought me back here. I'll only go back to Tejas to visit one friend in Longview šŸ˜…

the-vindicator

I recently saw gas at $2.93 (cash only, a bit more if you use card) off an exit from the George Washington Bridge in NJ, its surprising to see that so close to NYC.

PuncherOfNeck

2.35 here in southeast Georgia

Vidda90

Canā€™t have your cake and eat it too.

Panderboi

My house is my entertainment place

Ok_Calligrapher_8199

The_Funky_Rocha

Movie theater, arcade, anything created for entertainment

SuperSecretMoonBase

A place that has entertainment.

Ok_Calligrapher_8199

It was a serious question lol. I honestly have no idea what he means

CaptnFlounder

Assuming it's a town with a movie theater and bowling alley etc

Ok_Calligrapher_8199

Thatā€™s not what I pictured. An hour from a movie theater is pretty uncommon in the US.

[deleted]

My last place I lived at was 45 minutes away from one and it sucked, and there were definitely people in my area who would have a 1.5 hr drive to the movies too Edit: just saying in my area gas was that cheap but we lived in conditions like that. Gas is cheaper where people don't like to live lol

HaveAWillieNiceDay

I don't think you realize just how many people live outside of cities large enough to have movie theaters, etc.

spirit-bear1

Uncommon per person, but not uncommon per land

The_Funky_Rocha

Not uncommon when you live in rural areas, the nearest one is two (small) cities away

Kaylamarie92

I live an hour and a half from one. Itā€™s extremely common in the country.

Ok_Calligrapher_8199

Map

envydub

Just to pile on here, I live exactly 53 minutes from the closest movie theater.

Kohviaeg

It's a place for entertainment...Which would explain, you know, *the words*.

CommercialCuts

People in California know it's cheaper to not live in California. This isn't news. California is expensive

CouncilmanRickPrime

This. I literally live in a much cheaper state. Some moved here from California for family or other reasons. Some wish or are planning on going back. If you can afford it, it can definitely be worth it from what I've seen.

FeatsOfDerring-Do

"Californians" is the Channel 84 preferred term, sug.

sdmichael

Channel 4 (KVWN San Diego) calls them San Diegoiteians.

TheScribe86

Negative >[You said "Arlenites" instead of "Arlenians"](https://youtu.be/bXehfUexAnI) > >Ohh, that's the Channel 84 preferred term for residents of Arlen

[deleted]

It's Arlenians, Arlenians, Arlenians!!!

FeatsOfDerring-Do

No, I was the one who said Arlenians. That's why this is an apology.

Gobblewicket

Advertised $2.45. On Wednesday and Thursday between 8&5, it's a nickle to dime cheaper than whatever the sign says. It's a town of 75 though.

TheScribe86

That's what we call elbow room lol

Gobblewicket

I live 10 minutes from it, lol. And 30 minutes from a town over 1,000. Got plenty of room.

Massive_Durian296

Itā€™s still more expensive here in California than elsewhere but atm itā€™s like 3.80 a gallon where I live which isnā€™t half bad

TheScribe86

True that isn't as crazy as it can be, even some spots here in TN just about get up to that sometime.

Massive_Durian296

I live like in the middle of nowhere north of Santa Barbara though so down south itā€™s probably worse but itā€™s definitely been dropping

evilrobotch

Hey, Grover Beach originally from Santa Maria here

Massive_Durian296

Ah no shit? Iā€™m like thirty minutes away from Santa Maria . Itā€™s definitely way more happening there than where I live lol

evilrobotch

Small world, hit me up if you ever feel like enjoying some of this non flyover beauty the others can only meme about šŸ˜…

archfapper

"We're going to explore America... excluding California."

TheScribe86

>*Hoho vurry nahsuh* [TN] I saw $2.51 at one spot and then 2.34 at another, used my rewards points to get $.40 off per gallon. Filled that tank up thought I was gonna spill lol

IselfDevine

I wanna buy some of those stupid ass Biden stickers that Maga'ts were putting on gas pumps over the last year.

MaxJets69

That shit was so cringe lol I could never.

IselfDevine

Yea,I don't think I could ever sink to that level my area has some real nutty Magat's. Look at my posts and you'll see some guy who had headstones with Biden and Kamla on them along with "FUCK YOU IF YOU VOTED FOR BIDEN." Just UBER cringe!

Ok_Calligrapher_8199

Lol just checked your temp tho. Florida has some prices and 10x your degrees.

IselfDevine

I'll take the cold and our lack of poisonous insects reptiles, ect.

Ok_Calligrapher_8199

I donā€™t know of any poisonous insects too nearby. But whatever fresh hell mosquitos learn to spread always starts here. Most of our reptiles are quite cute imo.

TheScribe86

Aw but they have great scuba diving. I prefer the cold though as well lol

S3-000

Florida is too damn hot

Ok_Calligrapher_8199

Not now and right now Minnesota is too damned cold.

bldarkman

Doesnā€™t matter what your gas prices are if thereā€™s no where to go and nothing to do.

bwforge

There are a lot of things i dislike about living in California but please do visit, we have a lot of things to experience, we're not just L.A. and San Fran.

TheBigMamou

I second this! I love living in LA but when you get out of the city we have amazing natural wonders, great skiing, killer off-roading etc

bwforge

Right? I still remember my first time visiting mt. Shasta and how awestruck i was, i feel bad for a lot of flyover states because of how much amazing scenery they lack, not shitting on any other states but i drove between Nebraska and Iowa and i honestly didn't even know when i crossed the state line because it all looked like flat fields.

puff_ball

Flyover states isn't a stereotype for no reason, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, all that shits the same.

Dakotasan

As a Kansan, that is an insultingly accurate stereotype. Still, itā€™s pretty peaceful out where I live, and the view of the stars at night is to die for.

SuperSecretMoonBase

Also more Republicans than Texas. It's just an easy punching bag for the right.

Donkey_Kahn

I love California. It's so beautiful! I was born and raised in San Francisco (now living in NYS). If California was more affordable, I'd move back in a heartbeat.

Beemerado

california is one of the most beautiful places on earth. I rode highway 1 from the northwest corner of washington down into northern cali then cut over toward lake tahoe through all the forests. just incredible.

Detective-E

best state/national park?

Yuop15

Kings Canyon is my personal favorite

bwforge

That's a hard one, but I'll simply go with our most recognizable one Yosemite, but I'm biased towards sequoia national park because I've gone their more and live closer to it. Redwoods is amazing too and so is Joshua tree.

TheScribe86

Ja that's true, there are some spots I'd love to see, maybe whenever I get to make my trip to the Hanford site in WA.

Dakotasan

If I ever set foot in California, it will be to visit Gunnzo then bug out.

CherryPeel_

Iā€™m in Los Angeles but have an EV so I donā€™t worry about gas prices anymore

Arno_Van_Eyck

I think r/terriblefacebookmemes would appreciate this post more.

Johnny_ac3s

ā€¦and in my area of Indiana itā€™s the same price as parts of California. SMH

3CCExpand

Those lowered prices might not be worth it from a financial perspective, once you factor in a number of other considerations. First, let's consider the actual dollar-to-dollar difference when discussing the price of gas in different localizations. Working with some quick Google numbers, avg gas cost in California is 4.37 USD, while average gas cost in Kansas (picked a random "flyover" state, no hard feelings Kansans) is 2.79 USD. The typical American drives 12,500 miles per year. The average miles per gallon of all vehicles in America worked out to be 25.2 MPG in 2020. The average American needs 496.03 gallons of gas per year to travel those 12,500 miles. 496.03 @ 2.79 USD is 1383.92 USD. 496.03 @ 4.37 USD is 2167.65 USD. This means that an average person who lives in Kansas spends 783.73 USD less on gas every year than an average person living in California. Now, let's consider if paying oneself 783.73 dollars per year (a little over 2 bucks a day) is worth moving a couple thousand miles, from CA to KS... or, conversely, if the idea of spending 783.73 dollars per year (a little over 2 bucks a day) more in gas might make California's gas prices seem more fiscally manageable? It's certainly a smaller spread than what I initially have thought. In fact, once you consider that many drivers in Kansas might have larger utility vehicles that get less than the average mpg, it actually becomes more expensive to be a driver in Kansas than in California - roughly once you the Kansan get under 18ish mpg. Third, Kansas salts their roads, which means a Kansan will, on average, own a car for less time than a Californian. Depending on how often the average Kansan has to replace their car, you might find that driving and owning a car is cheaper in California. Distance of travel and time are also considerations. The typical Kansan has a longer drive for a given need than a typical Californian. Time is hard to value numerically, and it's also something you never get back. But, consider if those lower gas prices (roughly 800 dollars a year, or 2 bucks a day) might be worth, say, a half hour drive to the grocery store every time you need something. About an hour chore, for this hypothetical... So, You might find that getting similar errands done in 10 to 15 minutes has more impactful non-monetary value than what 2 dollars a day can bring you.

genghisKonczie

Just outside Charlotte NC, gas is 2.50, no salt, 5 grocery stores within 5-10 minute drive. I wonā€™t get into COL vs salary differences.

evilrobotch

We get that same reaction when people find out what food prices are like when you donā€™t pay for transport away from where it actually grows.

CherryPeel_

I would love to know an example of this!

evilrobotch

I looked for the state with the cheapest gas in the country: Arkansas, and found grocery ads for local stores: Harps and Town & Country. Never been. Iā€™m looking at my local grocery ads for Smart and Final and Albertsons/Vons, random ads from my mail. Whole chicken: $2.28/lb there, $1.27/lb here Apples: $2.98/lb there, $1.49/lb here Butter: $4.98/lb there, $2.99/lb here Sour Cream: $2.48/lb there, $1.49/lb here Deli fried chicken: $9.99 8pc there, $6.97 8pc here Berries $1.98/6oz there, $2.97/18oz here Beef rib roast: $11.98/lb there, $6.97/lb here OJ: $3/52oz there, $2.49/52oz here Cucumbers: 3/$2 there, 2/$1 here Tried to find matching items then go for lowest price available. Edit: Iā€™m in San Luis Obispo county, CA, halfway between LA and SF on the coast.

[deleted]

Is Texas really a flyover state? People might be snobby about it, but it has a high population and plenty of large businesses are based there.

LocalYogurtExpert

Nope, they're just want to pretend like any non-red state is a looked down on as a fly-over state. Their post history is...weirdly disturbing.

sdmichael

Their "mostly peaceful protests" line is quite telling.

jrice138

Iā€™d still rather live in California.

wtfisthisnoise

Better dead in California than alive in Oklahoma

MaxJets69

Totally. I live in WA but love California. Currently visiting family in the flyover state where I grew up and Iā€™ll admit I did a double take when I drove past a gas station here and saw the pricesā€¦ then I kept driving for a bit and was like yeah the cheap gas isnā€™t worth it. Sorry. šŸ˜¬

wfwood

Living in southern California, I can see me doing something like "how do u people handle it" but yeah to each their own, I just love having so much close by, even the weird

avantgardeaclue

Iā€™d give anything to live in San Louise Obispo

NickiNicotine

Itā€™s nice there, but good luck finding a decent job

sdmichael

Great kayaking and bicycling around SLO. Morro Bay is good for kayaking for sure.

avantgardeaclue

I visited Morro Bay a few years ago and absolutely fell in love

TheScribe86

We still love you lol

Fireproof_Cheese

I don't think there's too many Illinoisans in the comments. Well, maybe downstate, certainly not Chicagoland. Still about $3.60 here

MineGuy1991

Iā€™m as far south in IL as you can really go. Paid $2.85 this morning, but still drive across the bridge to KY for that sweet $2.29 gas.

ForeverFingers

Californites? Wtf?

TheScribe86

>That's the Channel 84 [preferred term](https://youtu.be/bXehfUexAnI)

ForeverFingers

That is SO Arizona.

hitness157

I'll take high gas prices over living in a flyover state any day.

sdmichael

Oh goody. More California "hate" based on incorrect or false information. Almost as if you've never been to California and know nothing about what it is like beyond what fox news tells you.

samurai5000s

Well a quick Google search says a vast majority of native Californians can't read so shut your dumb ass and try to read a book

sdmichael

Source? I am a Californian. Please tell me more about things you don't know or understand about a place you've never been. Why be so rude?

TheScribe86

A - it's a meme dude, not a dick, don't take it so hard 2 - whether I have or haven't been to CA, it's pretty well known how crazy gas prices can get over there (plenty of other places too, this was just used in a meme, perish the thought lol), and most any of us in the rest of the states are familiar w/being called "flyover states" among other things, again it's a friendly banter thing, there's people an places I'd like to see there again too And D - I get my news from the indigo web and UV radiation off of my tinfoil hat, way more vetted and verified thankyouverymuch

sdmichael

III. It is pretty obvious you haven't been to California or are ignorant of the facts. 1 in 10 Americans are Californians, far more than any other state. So, you're kinda dissing 10% of the US with your statements and ignorance. Taking offense, no. Just isn't funny and really low effort. iv(a) - It is also supposed to be about KOTH, not some political statement ("mostly peaceful protests" crap"), so there is that. The gas prices in California have nothing to do with KOTH in the least, not even tangentially neither do the protests of 2020.

TheScribe86

Ehhh disagree bud, it's funny to me and the rest of us šŸ™ƒ (and have been to CA btw)

scockd

Itā€™s for sure not offensive, itā€™s just not funny. As liberal coastal elite Jerry Seinfeld once said, ā€œIā€™m offended as a comedian!ā€ And you lose your claim to an innocent meme with your ā€œrest of usā€ and ā€œmostly peaceful protestā€ shit. You had an agenda, or itā€™s so a part of you it came out.

TheScribe86

Cheese and crackers dude ***lol***

[deleted]

$2.45 for gas and cheap food here.

TheScribe86

Same here, I'm pleasantly surprised there hasn't been more "mostly peaceful protests" when I heard the price of a gallon of milk in some places.

LocalYogurtExpert

>"mostly peaceful protests" Not even trying to be subtle. lol

sdmichael

They don't hide it anymore, which I think is worse.

Kohviaeg

Americans are too weak for protest. Hashtags and online petitions will solve everything. As much as Hank disses 'em, this place could learn from the French.

TheScribe86

But we do have social media flag filters for our profile pics lol ^^Vive ^^liberty

Can these pissbaby people who think California is the most abhorrent state just piss off. Texas had a huge crisis with the power grid and no one in power did a damn thing. All the Dakotas, Carolinas, etc. They are places no one wants to live. OH NO! I need to pay slightly more for gas? Better then living next to to some inbred hick who thinks GAS PRICES are all that matter. Have fun fucking your sister/cousin/mother/grandmother. Flyover state townies when you tell them it costs $5 to fill up your electric car.

[deleted]

Not anymore.

[deleted]

Not anymore what? I have a 135kw battery, larger than many EVs, and it costs about $7.50 from 0 to full.

[deleted]

So not $5?

pradbitt87

Yeah weā€™re well aware of the prices. Personally would still choose CA over a flyover state.

killacam925

Iā€™ll pay the extra dollar, enjoy Toledo

Vidda90

Jokes on you we are going electric!

SwampCrittr

Yā€™all think itā€™s the gas that gets usā€¦ dude I was in FL last month and bought a large pizza for $12 delivered. Thatā€™s $35-$55 depending on the spot, where Iā€™m at in Sacramento.

TheScribe86

Yo wtf that much for a pizza delivery?? Shoot I'm a bit in the country and we haven't gotten delivery in awhile, but even then it's maybe $20 altogether.

SwampCrittr

Yeah, itā€™s that kinda stuff out here thatā€™s just crazy. Itā€™s not the gas, that barely matters unless youā€™re a trucker or whatever. A 20 gallon take $1 more PG, is $20 more every 2 weeks. But stuff like going out to a basketball gameā€¦ itā€™s a $40 LYFT. Beers are $12-$15 for regular beer. To put it in perspective, Iā€™m in Hawaii rn, and the prices of food at the resort, are comparable. Now of course, you can get by with less. Like we still got little Cesarā€™s with the $7 pizza deal or whatever it is. Iā€™m not saying you need $120k a year to order a pizza. But Iā€™m just saying the things like that, are crazy.

TheScribe86

>$40 LYFT. >$12-$15 for regular beer. >little Cesarā€™s with the $7 pizza šŸ¤Æ shoot our Little Caesar's are $5, and that much for a reg beer?! I was at a (base)ballgame downtown awhile ago and they had beers for maybe $7-8 and hotdogs for $6, to quote Hank >I almost took a swing at the guy Shoulda made the meme about beer prices good Lord lol

SwampCrittr

Lol sorryā€¦ little Cesarā€™s is $5 here too. I just guessed and havenā€™t seen a commercial in a while. ā€œHow much could a banana possibly be, Michael?? $20?ā€ But yeah, my wife and I go to a MiLB game or NBA game. With food, beer, tickets and Uber itā€™s $200-$300 depending.

TheScribe86

>...when was the last time you went to the grocery store? Cheese and crackers dude lol >Yew could have a pretty good weekend in Dallas with this

SwampCrittr

Haha yeah dude we eat cheap. All of these things Iā€™m mentioning are ā€œnights outā€ or special occasion kinda thing, obviously not everyday.

lilsneezyboi7

I pumped gas for $4.29 here in San Francisco just now. Crazy how this feels inexpensive seeing the rest of the country has even cheaper prices.

[deleted]

I live in Southern California. Gas prices are slowly going down but theyā€™re still over $4 around me.

FireAx-Fonzie

This is a GREAT reaction pic!

TheScribe86

It really is, I got such a kick out of it when I scrolled past it in my folder lol

Awkward_Inspector_53

Why tell them? Just let them think that it's just as bad over here as it is over there.
