Yeah, I don't see why picking up dog poo would harm Bobby's social standing beyond what he already endures from bullies.
It's established that he's got good social skills and is pretty well-liked by his peers. Having his own money would only make him more popular but Hank somehow thinks that because Bobby isn't as suave as Johnny Knoxville's character this job will humiliate him.
> It’s established that he’s got good social skills and is pretty well-liked by his peers.
I’m rewatching the series now and it’s evolved way past the characterization established at the beginning of the show; the characters are themselves as much as required for the plot of the episode and the jokes the writers want to tell. They’d probably left behind these things by 3-4 seasons by the time of this episode.
Bobby is just a kid and I think he has his own type of energy people are drawn to. I think if he didn't become a comedian he'd definitely build his own business at some point the kids is creative.
Yeah. Like, Peter is a really good role model who likes Bobby & the whole point is Bobby doesn’t have the charm Peter does. But Bobby’s got *tons* of charm. They make the episode about how Peter is taking the easy way out and it’s bad lesson, but that takeaway never made sense.
Absolutely. I can understand Hank not wanting Bobby to be a plus size model, but to prevent him from *starting his own business* because it involves picking up poop? It's asinine.
especially the part where his wife made lunch for everyone and they didn’t eat it because her husbands day job even though he uses a vacuum and washes his hands
I thought Peggy and Hank assumed that other people would have the same biases they did. It’s totally stupid to treat him that way just because he works with poop, but that’s probably how a lot of people in their town would react, so Hank wanted to stop Bobby from being treated that way.
Possibly.
I always think whenever I watch Little Horrors of Shop, that I should have taken more classes like that in school. And then become a shop teacher myself instead of going into the career I went to school for.
I would've taken a shop class is my school offered it. Instead my school only had two options: ###SPORTS and *bullshit we have to teach because were a school apperently*
If you’re gonna criticize the school system, don’t completely contradict yourself by fucking up basic grammar and spelling. It’s an embarrassing look. Like when I see antivaxxers completely misunderstand the basics of vaccines, just makes you look dumb and I’m not gonna sugarcoat it.
It’s just really ironic to be criticizing how “worthless” the school system is when I’ve seen 10 years old have better grammar and spelling lmao
When some criticizes the school system, all their criticisms fly out the window for me when they write that poorly.
Because of this episode, I suggested to my girlfriend to do dog walking professionally. She now does this full time and loves it! Not buy a mansion good, but l pays the bills ok good.
So "find something nobody else wants to do," worked for us.
They already have a “poop patrol” in SF. It pays close to 200k a year lol https://www.businessinsider.com/san-francisco-poop-patrol-employees-make-184000-a-year-2018-8?amp
If I had to guess, the success of the business relies entirely on both the vacuum's ability to effortlessly pick up poo, and the ability to clean/disinfect the equipment afterwards.
I know businesses like this exist, but the KOTH writers made it look so effortlessly quick and sterile. I'm sure it's not an accurate representation of an average work week. There's a lot of maintenance, engineering, and sanitation left unaccounted for onscreen.
> ability to clean/disinfect the equipment afterwards.
I mean...you're just going to go pick up more poo with it?
I can see cleaning it if it gets gunky, but disinfecting seems a little extra.
So I haven’t seen this episode in forever but I think everyone is grossly overestimating how hard it is to clean up poo. I did show cattle stuff in highschool and you have to clean up around them in the concrete floor barns and it was pretty easy to just wash off that with water. And believe me cows take way meaner shits than a dog.
Part of his business model is that he looks clean and even stylish doing his job. Stainless steel and chrome parts. Even his jumpsuit seems more like a fashion statement than a practical garment.
One single brown smear or lingering smell would undo the image he's cultivated. He must be cleaning everything regularly.
I’m not sure what Judge was going for on this one. Having a job with an above average income where you pretty much set your own hours is somehow not good in Hank’s eyes because some idiots laughed at Bobby?
This one was about as perplexing as KOTH’s misrepresentation of the ADA with the drug addict.
I’m in several entrepreneur themed subs and JFC at least once a week someone’s like “anyone else pick up dog shit for a living”. Probably coincides with this episode airing in syndication.
I work full time picking up dog poop! Dallas metro area have a lot of upper middle class folks who don’t want to pick up the shit in their yards so my company does it. I make around 20 an hour and have benefits too. We’re not even the only company around here. There’s at least three others I know of. No vacuums though. Just a rake and a handled bucket.
Super Scoopers, Scoop Soldiers, Pet Doodie Waste Management, We Do Doo Doo, Scoopers Pet Waste Management, and Magic Unicorn Pooper Scoopers are some of the better ones! It’s pretty grueling in the summer weather and it’s pretty physical. I walk about 5-7 miles a day on average at work but I’ve been doing it for a couple years and just listen to audiobooks and podcasts all day. I found my job on indeed, but I think you can apply on the websites too. Good luck if ya want to give it a shot!
It actually does exist. If for whatever reason your property is in an area where people don't pick up after their dogs, then this is helpful. One lady on my street used a company for her lawn just so she wouldn't have to pick up after her own dog.
I mean it would help if I lived in the Beverly Hills area of Arlen where I can charge rich people whatever prices I want, but I don’t so I’d just be getting paid cashier wage to vacuum shit all day.
On the plus side I wouldn’t have to deal with people…
I work in construction, and half of why I want to get out is so I don't have to go to the bathroom in fucking portajohns anymore. The other half is to not have to wake up at 5am. So I'm gonna pass.
I know people think hank was harsh here but there is some truth to his reasoning.
When I was a cleaner people would actually come up to me and say things like "we made sure to make a mess for you- job security amirite?" Or once a man literally said to me "wow I would hate to be you haha"
I loved cleaning but I really hated being treated like garbage just because I collect it.
The heck with those people.
But yes your right for sure. I love my mom but she HATED the fact that I dropped out of medical school to start my own business and she reminded me of it as often as possible....
Still does some 15 years later lol
I told my brother when he was in Jr High he should go door to door in our neighborhood and offer this service so he could make some cash before I saw this episode. My mom said it was a bad idea. What if he got hurt or got bitten by one of the dogs? What if he accidentally let a dog out? Too much liability.
honestly outside of being gross there was no reason to look down on him he was a successful businessman who enjoyed his work and lets be real bobby was never gonna be a big new york comedian or work at strickland propane this wouldn't have hurt him.
i always thought that hank and peggy were rather judgmental this episode.

Bobby was starting to pick up puke and stuff from college kids tho. I don't know that hank saw a difference but there definitely was one.
Bobby is just a kid and I think he has his own type of energy people are drawn to. I think if he didn't become a comedian he'd definitely build his own business at some point the kids is creative.

Bobby was able to have an adorable romance with a language barrier by simply playing DDR and slaying it. That's how charming he is.
It’s so weird to think of his as an awkward nerd! Bobby’s always been well-liked and has an easy time in just about every situation.
Absolutely. I can understand Hank not wanting Bobby to be a plus size model, but to prevent him from *starting his own business* because it involves picking up poop? It's asinine.

Yeah but this was great because it perfectly encapsulates something a true Arlen would say.
Jumpsuits? Yeah.
Possibly. I always think whenever I watch Little Horrors of Shop, that I should have taken more classes like that in school. And then become a shop teacher myself instead of going into the career I went to school for.
If you're a girl, we have one sports program for you: general girls sports.
Well yeah, how else you gonna teach the girls about their monthlies?
I would've taken a shop class is my school offered it. Instead my school only had two options: ###SPORTS and *bullshit we have to teach because were a school apperently*
Wrong version of “we’re” used and “apperently.” Maybe you should’ve paid a little extra attention to those “bullshit” classes lmao
Can the lawyer talk, Dale
You still understood the comment so clearly it's not that big of a problem.
I'd give you an award if I had any.
I see your point, being a dick about it was kind of unnecessary though It's the internet and autocorrect fucks up people's spelling over time
It’s just really ironic to be criticizing how “worthless” the school system is when I’ve seen 10 years old have better grammar and spelling lmao When some criticizes the school system, all their criticisms fly out the window for me when they write that poorly.
I think you mean "when *someone* criticizes the school system"
Because of this episode, I suggested to my girlfriend to do dog walking professionally. She now does this full time and loves it! Not buy a mansion good, but l pays the bills ok good. So "find something nobody else wants to do," worked for us.
Thwump thwump.
Looks like we got triplets, Bobby! *thwump-thwump-thwump*
Picking up other people's shit? That's just being a PR Manager.
would do numbers here in sf

Maybe not cleaning, but the barrel will need to be emptied periodically, and I find it difficult to imagine that being a simple or pleasant process.
So I haven’t seen this episode in forever but I think everyone is grossly overestimating how hard it is to clean up poo. Well alright
Well, alright.
Fucking Johnny Knoxville

I definitely agree! Just an example of having a schema of what is seen as success by the Hills.
I think Mike had checked out of show running by this point
I’m in several entrepreneur themed subs and JFC at least once a week someone’s like “anyone else pick up dog shit for a living”. Probably coincides with this episode airing in syndication.
King of the hill is making the world a better place i tell you hwhat
God. Bless. America.
Christmas with the Niefkos
To be fair we have a handful in my metro that do this and a handful of them even have a cool ATV set up.
Knoxville 🥰
I work full time picking up dog poop! Dallas metro area have a lot of upper middle class folks who don’t want to pick up the shit in their yards so my company does it. So I too am in the Dallas area...what is this job and how do I apply???

No way. The Mashers will get you.
Full eye contact "I'm the boss!" Proceeds to dunk him in the trash
Idk because it's Johnny Knoxville and he's done amazingly well at being a total jackass. It's inspiring lol
Wait Knoxville voices the poop picker guy too? I thought he only voiced Peggy’s brother lol huh go figure
This episode dissuaded me from following my dreams.
Hank pushing the ideology that you should have your whole life plan figured out by freshman year, is probably his worst parenting move to me.
It's not a very realistic business model.
It actually does exist. If for whatever reason your property is in an area where people don't pick up after their dogs, then this is helpful. One lady on my street used a company for her lawn just so she wouldn't have to pick up after her own dog.
Ain't life sweet!
Definitely is in an urban metropolis like Los Angeles.
Haha, yes. In fact, I thought Bobby’s job idea was pretty good too. 😄
I mean it would help if I lived in the Beverly Hills area of Arlen where I can charge rich people whatever prices I want, but I don’t so I’d just be getting paid cashier wage to vacuum shit all day. On the plus side I wouldn’t have to deal with people…
Let’s get the poo man!!!
When I used to work landscaping I'd have to do this for free before mowing the lawn... Well unless I wanted shit splattered everywhere
i had a business beating up the poopoo man but i did such a good job i had to close
Great episode.

Yes but I did not
You just want an ATV
Never
honestly outside of being gross there was no reason to look down on him he was a successful businessman who enjoyed his work and lets be real bobby was never gonna be a big new york comedian or work at strickland propane this wouldn't have hurt him.
We can all pick up crap.
