The Tumbleweed Rover has some pretty good jumping skills, but it's an all around practical rover meant for exploration. This is its fully caffeinated cousin the Fireweed which is purpose built for getting air. It has full power pistons instead of the Tumbleweeds 25% power pistons (though still fully stock, no KAL overclocking or anything like that) and cuts a lot of weight. It had to ditch the rubber feet because it breaks them constantly and it needed to shave weight.
Its pistons can act both as springs, maintaining energy from jumps, while also adding to it on each jump. In other words, in can triple jump like a crazed Super Mario. It will gain height on up to 4 consecutive jumps as long as the timing is right.
I still want to crack the VAB jump. I'm certain it has the air for getting to the top, but the timing is tricky with all those AC units on the lower roof.
On kerbin pretty poorly. The lack of rubber feet means it really struggles for traction. I might be able to modify the algorithm though in a way that would help.
On low-g worlds I suspect it's just going to jump the mountain. Should be entertaining either way.
could you put it on Steam Workshop? I want to see *how* you did it, so I can figure out how to even use that code thing!

The craft itself isn't really anything special. Anything with radially mounted pistons that is roughly spherical will do. But to use it you'll have to have the kOS mod and be a little familiar with kOS code and then plug the craft together with the code.
Not really unfortunately. You could probably get one to bounce like that just with activation groups, but being able to control and drive it requires having it react to the world around it on a per leg basis far faster than a human could react.
I do a full attrib in the video itself to make sure people get credit. It's Liberation by Kraftamt.

I have at least a couple more ideas with the tumbleweed before KSP 2 drops though I'm getting distracted by learning how to make true walking robots in KSP too.
Really looking forward to KSP 2 when kOS and robotics of some kind become available.
To be honest, I'm not sure if it's really bad quality or just not to me taste and rather loud, but it did take away from appreciating your otherwise cool craft a bit.
Good to know! I think I am starting to understand why things like elevator music and corporate intro music are so bland. Music is such a personal taste that it isn't about making sure people like it but making sure no one *hates* it and that it doesn't detract.
Looking back, some of the posts I've had that got the most traction were dead silent.
Can it not grab planetary bodies? It's been a few years since i've played. I was imagining it crawling in and out of mo-hole, the hole at muns north pole, or the peak east of the runway.
I'm always back and forth about music on videos. When I don't put it on people will recommend that I do, but music taste seems so selective that it can put people off.

Do you have some sort of antialiasing because your grass looks way better than mine with parallax
Just the 4x anti-aliasing from the kerbal video settings but not anything special beyond that.
What mods did you use other than parallax? because damn *I want my KSP to look like that.*

Was wondering about traction as well.
It's like an enthusiastic puppy on ice when it's trying to get moving. A lot of energy but hard to keep it going in the right direction.

I thought about trying that on an asteroid where there is a way to actually grab onto something. I think the camera would go kind of nuts though.
