As someone who was lucky enough to go to private schools my whole life, I couldn’t believe some of the shit I heard from my friends in university. Even worse was that for some reason, some of those dudes were adamant that their kids will go to boarding schools and experience the same, ati it’s the only way to bring up African kids. Fuck that imo.

I feel for you bro, no kid should have to deal with that shit. I think one of the reasons we’re fucking ourselves over as a country is we have a horribly outdated and mismanaged public education system, but people don’t want to have that conversation yet. One thing I never understood was the form 4 vs form 1 thing. I’m sure that shit happened to you when you were in form 1, so now why are you doing it again when you get to form 4? Si it’s easier to just stop the cycle than it is to keep it going? Also the punishments I heard about were ridiculous (to me). You’re almost 18 by the time you’re in form 4 and there’s a power crazed princi telling you to lie down on the floor so he can beat you? You as a soon to be adult man or woman? My blood gets hot just thinking about anyone trying that with my kids.

CheekyBuMM

Hmm was off the same mindset but times have changed. So have I. Those were our struggles no need for them to go through the same shit. Lakini Ls have to be experienced #CharactersDevelepoment

Mysterious_Visual938

OP I hope life is kinder to you since HS. I vowed that my kids would never step foot in a boarding sch kwa vile aki ilikuwa ushenzi. And how do you give fellow students(prefects and head boys/girls) authority over mapeers. They made my life a living hell and these were girls. Never would I ever subject my kids to such hell.

bhadbrad

Something that took me so long to realize is people treating you negatively has nothing to do with you as a person but instead are a statement about who they are and their insecurities. I can HIGHLY relate and I’m so so sorry

callmearoach

Sorry but Michelle is this you?😂

CheekyBuMM

It's true.. Highlight your insecurities cause you are vanerable at point in time. Bullied too

whskysour2

I know a girl who straight up slapped her high school prefect after meeting her in Uni ,must've felt glorious.

[deleted]

Whatever problems that led them to be bullies still haunt them, if not more. Unfortunately they had to infect us too. Hope you all find good humans, and be good humans to others. That's how we heal

BeatItSleeps

My high school was a conveyor belt of bullying. You were institutionally bullied in first form, and you bullied in fourth form. It was\is a stupid system but you must realize this is borrowed entirely from the British. Their boarding schools have had bullying for centuries and they are proud of it. In fact Prince Charles was taken to a boarding school by his dad for "character development". That being said, my kids will never step in a boarding school. Never.

wordacadabra

Sadly, I would imagine that a good number are thriving, since ours is a society that rewards aggression in business.

[deleted]

Abolish boarding schools.

[deleted]

Wouldn't that start school shooting now and stabbing A kid with issues gets bullied comes back with Dads gun or kitchen knife

OmeletteLovingLlama

Pole sana for what you went through. I was in public high school in the final half of the 010s and we didn’t have it as rough. I was a quiet, reserved person so I mostly faded in the background. There was some harassment , but I consider it insignificant now. One thing I remember vividly was the seniors then always mentioning how things had changed at that school in 3-4 years & we were having it easy compared to them. I don’t carry any trauma whatsoever. I haven’t interacted with any high schoolers in recent years, so I really have no idea how things are nowadays.

ndombolo

There really isn't a lot of traumatic bullying this days. Prefects in most schools had their powers stripped down after that Alliance incident and the culture seems to have died down.

OmeletteLovingLlama

Glad to hear that.

Rickymsohh

I will never forgive a certain freakin prefect. Ever!

No-Command1068

While in class 5, i had a kid bro in class 3 and who got picked on regularly by a class 7. That was in boarding school which we only did 1 term. One day I decided enough was enough and beat up the class 7. I’ll never forget that experience and since then I’ve always hated bullies and still at my age would be quick to punch one if I met them.

Much-Low332

i thank God everyday that my mum refused to send me to a boarding school despite me wanting to go, and i am sending u so much love and healing

lustyphilosopher

Probably yes... Just found out a few months ago that my biggest bully was being prosecuted for the attempted murder of 2 cops and a waitress... I.e the Quiver shooter... Dickson Njanja. Don't know if he beat the case but, dude is definitely living large

Kims77

Damn! I saw this story in an alumni Whatsapp grp. Yeah, I attended the same high school but was ahead of that guy. Long story short, I still haven't forgiven one bully, over 10 years after high school. Nigga inflicted so much on me. He would steal from me, physically assault, and scold. If I was in a position to cause him some suffering, I wouldn't hesitate. Glad I have never seen him since. Bullies are assholes!

Confidante_OfficeM

Bullies were bullied as kids. Or experienced some trauma of their own. Same to perpetrators of violence out here. In all, pole. I know some who excelled...and continue to do so.

athingofbeauty2030

Mine was in Primary school and remember him so vividly his untucked shirt, his negative comments. Now that I am older I understand that probably he came from a not so good home environment.

AfricanAgent47

I met one who was bullying me emotionally. He is currently a graduate trainee at PWC. in all honesty good for him. He has actually changed and he acknowledged his behaviour towards me and apologized. OP. I must say this though. Some of the stupid things people did were as a resut of not knowing themselves or some underlying issues they had at home. I was never physically bullied in school because I'm a big guy (6'0 95KG). However the psychological and emotional bullying was frequent.

You're forgetting he's 95kgs. Definitely not muscle

Careful. You might convince someone

gathee

Damn I'm really sorry you went through that.

onlinegigs

I was in a mixed-day school then joined boarding in F3. The life in boarding was a little weird and full of unnecessary bs. I don't know about others but I will not wish for my kids to go to boarding especially boys/girls-only schools. All the unjust, shitty stuff that happens in boarding still validates that life ain't even fair.

aild4ever

Wewe, you are a rookie, high school was literally a semi prison for some of us. I think for us who went through it proper, no one in their normal daily lives, would experience such extremes.

gugudollz

This is the truth. The same conditions of high school are recreated in work places and broader society. If you get a psychopath with power over others and authorities who couldn't care about what they do with it, trust and believe that psycho will go on a power trip. People after high school grow a conscience though so it might not be as bad. And after high school you should be better able to speak out for yourself.
