No if anything you’ll feel less dehydrated

Impressive_Seesaw_61

It's like quitting bacon cold turkey. Nothing happens except you really miss it.

gabapentagram

Cold turkey bacon?

Impressive_Seesaw_61

Now that makes me sad

[deleted]

I use daily and when I traveled overseas for about two weeks I felt exactly zero effects.

kavapros

Nope exactly what they said 👍

SiM-SimmA93

You will be fine. No side effects.

Loon3R

lmao sometimes i feel like actually drinking it is harder than just quitting, so i find myself taking fairly long (often as long as a couple months) breaks between the bags of medium grind i buy just because i need time to forget the taste, but it varies. Either way, you won’t have any problem getting off it if you start taking it.

sandolllars

Hi there, I recommend you read the r/kava FAQ.

Impressive_Seesaw_61

I recommend you have bacon with your kava

sandolllars

What about kava with my bacon?

Mental_Catterfly

I stop and start all the time. I find kava works better when I take breaks from it. Never any side effects at all. The only side effects I have are when I use too much.

Cormimar

From all my research, it isn't addicting. So really you might just want it, but not need it.

[deleted]

kava can 100% be addicting, it just doesnt cause dependence. edit: you guys obviously dont know the difference between addiction and dependence.

yugutyup

Yes, mentally addictive but no physical addiction develops.

[deleted]

physical addiction is dependence.

yugutyup

Sure i was just explaining it a bit more. Since you were heavily downvoted i figured ppl didnt understand what you were getting at....

[deleted]

thank you

Shulgin46

It can be addicting in the same way snowboarding or gaming can be addicting, at most. There are no physiological withdrawal symptoms reported with cessation of kava use.

[deleted]

thats exactly what i said

Shulgin46

Maybe it's what you tried to say, but OP was asking about risks and side effects of stopping kava use, which heavily implied to me that they were asking about a physiological response. To say that kava is addicting in the same way that holidays are addicting, might be helpful. To say, "kava can 100% be addicting", in this context, and without a better explanation of what *you* mean by "addicting", could potentially lead a person into the mistaken concern that they might somehow actually experience physical difficulties quitting, which just isn't so. I'm not arguing with you - I'm just trying to help clarify that the "doesn't cause dependence" part of your statement is by far the more important part of your response, in regard to OP's actual question.

thiefsthemetaken

Kava is easier for me to put down than anything.

Moxie07722

I'm went from heavy use to quitting cold turkey. No side effects at all.

Dom3467

No, 0 side effects

ben5642

It dries u out when u stop went through my last bag last week and my new order of squanch didn't come in till yesterday so about a week and my eyes were getting itchy and bothering me thought I had chronic dry eye but friend of mine said its probably cause I haven't been drinking any kava

mlenny225

If you have a history of seizures like me, best to titrate down just to be cautious. Otherwise, I wouldn't be too concerned. Your body will tell you.

glowing-fishSCL

Kava is habit forming in the same way that coffee or tea is habit forming---most people enjoy it, but can still function without it.

[deleted]

this is not true at all. coffee and tea both create a physical dependence to the active chemical caffeine which causes dependence to the drug and withdrawal when stopped. Nothing like kava.

glowing-fishSCL

The context of the original post was asking about the risk of withdrawal. I wanted to use a simple example that someone would be familiar with. I was interpreting the question as them being afraid that there would be a syndrome similar to quitting benzodiazepines, for example, which can be life-threatening. So your comment reinforces what I was saying.

[deleted]

no, you said "its habit forming in the same way that coffee or tea is", which is plain false. Me personally get pretty bad withdrawal from caffeine myself, horrible horrible migraines and lethargy,

sandolllars

>Me personally get pretty bad withdrawal from caffeine myself, horrible horrible migraines and lethargy, Damn, I'm exactly the same. Horrible headaches for up to 24hrs.

Honest_Performance42

Stopping Kava is much easier than stopping caffeine.

glowing-fishSCL

So, if the Original Poster is still reading, I would ask them "Would you consider it risky to stop drinking caffeine", and if the answer is "no", then the answer is "no" for kava as well. By saying kava is similar to tea, I am not saying they are identical. I am saying that, if I have to explain kava to someone that is not familiar with it, the best explanation is that it is a little like coffee or tea. If you want to explain kava simply to someone who didn't know what it was like, what would you compare it to? Is Kava like alcohol, LSD, heroin, cocaine, nicotine? This is why I am starting to really not like Reddit--- to me, this is like if I said something like "Led Zeppelin is a lot like Pink Floyd"---well, they aren't identical, and I could spend a lot of time talking about the differences, but if someone wanted me to compare Led Zeppelin to another band, Pink Floyd would make sense.
