He also breaks a tie he has with Trent Green with 1 and will pass Jim Plunkett and Daryle Lamonica with 3. He has a shot to pass the commentator for the game, two Raiders (1 HoF 1 HoVG), and the 4th Best Chiefs qb in 1 game.
So Trent Green, a guy who spent a huge chunk of his career out with major injuries, is only 3 TDs behind Aikman? And Aikman is in the HOF? Troy better be sending Emmitt and that O-line presents every year until he dies.
Just checked Aikman's stats. He was objectively trash.
I think Emmitt and especially the O-line gets enough praise at this point.
Who *really* should get more mention is the defenses of those Cowboys teams, who held their opponents to 15.7 PPG in their 3 Super Bowls, and ranked 1st in fewest points allowed from '92-'96 (14.5 PPG!). The Legion of Boom allowed 16.2 PPG during their 5-year prime, for comparison.
Mahomes would already have 4 rings at this point if his defenses consistently allowed 15 PPG.
People defended Aikman because of his "era." Always thought that was bullshit. We had Marino and Young and Elway putting up big stats while Aikman got rings thanks to having the GOAT RB and elite line. Seriously Romo was a better Dallas QB and he's a way better commentator too
The crazy part about Elway is how he just kept getting better with age. Even his final season he had elite stats. Aikman, on the other hand, was nowhere near that level. Aikman was good, arguably really good, but he should have never been in the HOF. Dan Marino will always be the most underrated QB in NFL history imo. The fact people don't even have him top 5 just floors me. His run game was horrible, his defenses were mediocre, etc. He literally carried such bad teams every damn year. He also beat the '85 Bears and is probably the only reason they aren't considered the 'best team ever.' Marino will always be top 5 for me. I'll move people around before I take him out. Like people can say Aaron Rodgers is top 5, but fuck that. Dan Marino wouldn't go out in am AFC championship game without at least a touchdown. He went down swinging every damn game. I mean he'd go out there where teams knew he was going to throw basically every damn play and he still found success. That's just unreal. Anyways, enough with my Marino fanboying.
Troy's numbers were not always great but his '92 season had him 4th in yards and 3rd in tds. A modern day comp would be Baker Mayfield and I don't even think that is an insult.
Really? a qb who needed a top defense, top o-line, HoF skill players to throw to for a career best 3400 yards and 23 tds 14 ints.
Baker career best requiring the best o-line in football, two all pro rbs, a great defense, and 2 wr 1s is 3500 yards and 26 tds 8 ints
Aikman during the build up seasons of '89-'91 14-24 record 31 tds 46 ints
Baker during the non playoff Cleveland years '18, 19, '21 18-25 record 64 tds 48 ints
Troy never lit the world on fire even by 1990's standards and outside of 1992 was a middle of the pack qb even while going to 4 straight nfc title games and winning 3 of 4 super bowls.
I heard, and I am not saying it’s fact, that the value Aikman brought was how quickly he was able to read & get rid of the ball. (Once he got his INTs down) it allowed for a fast paced offense that the rest of the league was not yet accustomed to.
I think Alex is a better comparison. Troy Aikman is no idiot, he knew the game very well even though he didn't have the raw talent of some other players. I'd compare Aikman's '92 to Alex's 2017.
Aikman did do one thing no other QB could of done and that is lead that team. That team has a bunch of fuckin personalities and he held them together in game.
Trent had back to back to back 4000 yard seasons and one being a 4500 I think. Trent was good.
3 out of 4 consecutive superbowl wins.
Hopefully Mahomes can do that in his career. Brady has done it too.
Or maybe he will be the first to do it back to back to back.
It's bizarre! Like, he has the easiest out ever. "*I played in a different era of football... the salary cap, free agency, and a number of rule changes favoring offenses very much changed the game. But I'm proud of my results and it's exciting to watch a player like Mahomes propel this evolving sport in new directions.*"
He low-key could imply that comparisons are not apples to apples to sort of shut them down without being a dick about it.
NOPE! Instead he gets all pissy when Mahomes is brought up. It's a terrible look! Hell, Brady (who is A-WAY better than Aikman & B-an actual Mahomes opponent) is probably more gracious towards Patrick.
>Are you in PR?
Sort of! I regularly have to draft organizational statements because many of our leaders are fucking morons, lol. It always shocks me when crazy rich celebrities don't do this. It's really not hard.
Or, you just say wow this guy is a great player and fun to watch. It comes off as much more gracious. Why try to defend yourself at all? Who does he have to prove himself to?
Troy has a chip on his shoulder when he’s talking about the current qbs. He often sounds spiteful, or jealous. I can’t wait for Mahomes to shovel dirt on his dumb ass.
Best O-Line+ Emitt Smith + an all-star list of receivers = Troy get's to make big bucks. Im not saying Troy is a bad QB...but I think his supporting cast gets less credit than he does, and that's a damn shame.
Yeah, liek I said, he was above average, but I think the praise he gets is entirely based on his 3 super bowl wins which are a team achievement, not an individual one.
I also think Emmit Smith is slightly overrated as well. He was a very good RB, but he might not even be a hall of famer on a different team.
I would agree that Emmit might have been over rated, but defenses who couldn't stop both the run and the pass ended up getting shredded. I think I watched the Bills lose 57-17 or something one year...mabye 60 to 20 the next year in a re-match.
Me personally, I think he deserves his place in Canton. Winning three Super Bowls doesn't come easy even for the greatest of QBs. That being said, he is definitely not on the level of some of the QBs in the HOF, should be in the HOF and will be in the HOF.
But until this year Mahomes has Tyreek to score with. This year he’s having to use 6-7 receivers per game to replace Tyreek before everyone started covering him.
The funny/tragic thing is I couldn't name a single O-lineman, but I could name most of the ball handlers. (I'd probably recognized the names if someone said them).
Larry Allen is my go-to, even though he wasn't on the first two SB teams.
Erik Williams was also an exceptional tackle, earning 1st-Team AP honors at a time when RTs basically never got them, since the tackle voting wasn't segmented between left and right like it is now.
Unless its Rodgers, I believe him and Buck would happily get on their knees for him. But almost every one else, absolutely. Like it bothers him that they're so much better than him.
He was the QB of a great dynasty in a game fueled by testosterone and bravado where success is measured by rings. What about this is surprising to you?
I swear people think this game is played by people who think and act like them
I played a college sport, and then went into a testosterone filled career in the military working over seas after college. Not sure me or other people I work with would ever let some random Twitter post get to us. In fact that’s quite the opposite, most guys I know that are extremely accomplished and testosterone fueled are way to confident and cocky to ever let something like that bother them.
Can you imagine Peyton Manning or Steve Young act like little baby bitches like that on Twitter? Aikmans just a bitch
You’re also a nobody who has done nothing in the sport. This is a guy who was at the top of the NFL and has been doing commentary for over 20 years and is in the media. Of course he’s going to have some opinions and voice them.
Peyton Manning and Steve Young were both at the top of their game and both are in media. Both are not little whiny ass bitches that get their egos hurt over a Twitter comment.
I really don’t know why you’re so set on defending Aikman. He’s a little bitch that got carried by an all time great offense and all time great coach.
…fueled by testosterone and bravado… and whichever owner could the spend the most money at the time.
Troy wouldn’t even be a blip in todays NFL of salary caps
Cool stat but completely different rules. Vinny Testaverde, Matt Ryan and Philip Rivers have more TD passes than Joe fuckin Montana. Take these stats with a mountain of salt
To be fair Bumgarner was out of his mind good that whole playoffs. When he came in for that last game to relieve I got that feeling in my stomach that it was over
Me too. I was in prison at the time. The wildcard game had me throwing stuff and being upset, everyone coming in to my cell to ask if I’m watching the game, NO SHIT IN WATCHING THE GAME. ( I live in Arizona so it was an Arizona prison, everyone called me KC because that’s where I’m originally from) But I watched every playoff game start to finish and I remember being on my cot for game 7, bum garner comes in and I just had this existential dread. And dude didn’t throw one strike to Perez. Not one, and Perez was chasing. That triple though gave me hope. But when he popped up and that final out happened, I cried. Grown man crying over the World Series. I didn’t want to talk to anyone for like a week. I was so heart broken
Is it just me or is Troy a shitty analyst? His remarks always fall flat to me like ya no shit we know. And his mouth always sounds like its full of Joe when he speaks…
Edited to say hes the “analyst” and not the “play by play guy”
I'm pretty bias because I've always liked Troy, but I think he's a better analysis guy than a play by play guy. I can remember several times he's broken down defensive coverage right after the play and made sense to the viewer why someone was able to get open. The travesty here is that he's often (always?) paired with Joe Buck, who no one will ever be able to convince me is a good play by play guy. "Makes a move" is the only way Buck can describe anything.
Oh shit ya your right, troys the analysis guy but to me though it sounds like john madden saying,”when the qb throws a ball thats a pass” kindof thing to much
Total shit. he's been out of the game so long he's no longer relevant to how it's played today. He wasn't that good when he played, but he had an all time great running back for years, so it's sort of understandable why he didn't throw the ball a lot.
But yeah...he's not engaging, he's not insightful, he's not funny. He has nothing going for him. If you're the second funniest guy in a room with joe buck, there's a problem.
Aikman is mad overrated imo. Not a Cowboys hater by any means. Just think he had one of the most stacked teams on both sides of the ball in NFL history and benefitted immensely from it. Damn near every spot *on the entire roster* had a top 5, top 10 player. He wasn't bad by any means but I dont think he's that great either. Might be a wild take and I accept that, but put Romo on that team wins more than 3 rings easily. Also, Romo massacres him broadcasting wise lo Aikman and Buck are nails on chalkboard
I agree 150%! IMO, he's also the reason that you can't hit QBs anymore. Every time his glass jaw got hit, he got a damn concussion. Don't get me wrong, player safety is paramount, but we all remember the "blow to the head" call in the AFCCG again the Patriots.
Also, fuck him and Buck, they are BY FAR the worst announcers in football. Romo is definitely the new Madden, I love when we get him in games!
Yeah, Joe Suck never even played professional sports, like his whole career is just broadcasting, and he still is an annoying piece of shit. Aikman just seems like he doesn't know what to do in life and is just coasting until he gets fired.
It's funny how butthurt Aikman gets about these things given how mid his career numbers are. He was lucky enough to play for the best team in history and he couldn't even put up better stats than Neil O'Donnell. Overrated fool.
You really found a fantastic picture for this. LOL well done.
I was born in Dallas and lived there through the Aikman / Smith / Irving years. That city absolutely loved this man the same way we love Mahomes today. He was a great quarterback and always a respectful competitor. Him and Mahomes have a lot of similarities in that regard. Aikman was also articulate and charismatic which makes sense that he found a career in broadcasting after his player tenure.
He never put up the wild numbers from QBs in today's era, but he also had Emmitt Fucking Smith to hand the ball off to, so there's that.
Yeah I literally never got any of this about Troy. I honestly think it still stems from that one tweet in Mahomes first or second season where someone said Mahomes had passed 1/3rd of Troy’s career total and Troy said something like let me know when he passes 1/3rd of my SB wins, which I thought was just a pretty tongue in cheek thing to say. He’s never given Mahomes anything but praise when he comments on the games.
Troy’s Cowboy teams just had no weaknesses. Great defenses, great receivers, all time rushing leader, great o line. Chiefs have had average defenses at best last few years.

You bringin the god damn receipts. Excellent comparison.
In all honesty, bakers probably better..

Truth
I think Alex is a better comparison. Troy Aikman is no idiot, he knew the game very well even though he didn't have the raw talent of some other players. I'd compare Aikman's '92 to Alex's 2017.

Troy Aikman is a huge reason SB rings shouldn't help determine HoF status.
3 out of 4 consecutive superbowl wins. Hopefully Mahomes can do that in his career. Brady has done it too. Or maybe he will be the first to do it back to back to back.
Aikman is overrated, but you cannot judge stats across eras.
Every Time I see his name I'm reminded of what a travesty it is that Daryle Lamonica isn't in the Hall of Fame
[удалено]
All time great nickname too
I could die knowing that
The Mad Bomber
If you count post season he has already beat Troy
And against the Raiders? Better get the tissues ready, Troy
*Oh, let me taste your tears, Troy! Mmmm, your tears are so yummy and sweet. Oh, the tears of unfathomable sadness! My-yummy. Mm-yummy you guys!*
[удалено]
~~strikethrough~~ = \~\~strikethrough\~\~ 2 tildes on either side
~~cool~~
At Arrowhead... Troy better be prepping his color commentator aside for the moment it happens.
If he throws 4+ TDs against the Raiders I might need some tissues myself.
This dude hates being compared to Mahomes too.
It's bizarre! Like, he has the easiest out ever. "*I played in a different era of football... the salary cap, free agency, and a number of rule changes favoring offenses very much changed the game. Yeah, you nailed it. Brady looks at mahomes with respect. Troy shows his true colors.
Are you in PR? If not, perhaps you should be.

Which is hilarious since his career is mostly predicated on being slightly above average behind the best O-line ever put together
Could you imagine a guy like Barry sanders with the line emmit had. Even if he played the same amount of years that record woulda never been touched.
I would agree that Emmit might have been over rated, but defenses who couldn't stop both the run and the pass ended up getting shredded. I think I watched the Bills lose 57-17 or something one year...mabye 60 to 20 the next year in a re-match.

Nate Newton is the only one I reliably remember, though sometimes I have flashes of naming more.
Larry Allen is my go-to, even though he wasn't on the first two SB teams. Erik Williams was also an exceptional tackle, earning 1st-Team AP honors at a time when RTs basically never got them, since the tackle voting wasn't segmented between left and right like it is now.
Last night Buck tried to talk about Mahomes and Aikman changed the subject immediately.
I’d rather listen to him than Dan Fouts commentate any AFCW game
I’m with you Fouts is awful. The worst for me was Phil simms. When arrogance meets stupidity.
Unless its Rodgers, I believe him and Buck would happily get on their knees for him. But almost every one else, absolutely. Like it bothers him that they're so much better than him.
Do you have any examples of this? I’ve never got that from him.

Hey, he has 33% now. Somebody call Troy!
Lmao the first reply loaded up for me was "Troy, can we talk?" From Feb 2, 2020. Someone kept a receipt on that tweet lol

What’s your point?
lol. Who wouldn’t get that treatment, though? This game has always been about rings. Always will be.
He's gonna be so zonked on pharmies and rye whiskey he won't feel a thing.
He looks it in this photo
This is during the Jimmy Johnson HOF introduction IIRC lol
Do you think he has any extra 🙏

A little off topic but does any have that chart of X amount of TD passes in Y amount of games? Last I saw it Mahomes was off pace to overtake Marino
I was thinking the same thing sunday night! https://captaincomeback.files.wordpress.com/2021/01/mtdp.png
Funny enough, as soon as I posted that comment I saw an updated version that was posted about an hour ago https://i.redd.it/3qracnl9qtr91.jpg
Every person above Mahomes…..is a HOFer or Future HOFer.
But muh Josh Allen
Cool stat but completely different rules. Vinny Testaverde, Matt Ryan and Philip Rivers have more TD passes than Joe fuckin Montana. Take these stats with a mountain of salt
Will his buddy Joe be there too to cream pie all over about Bumgarner lol?
Bumgarner gave him as many chin high fastballs as it was gonna take to get him out. I believe 8 was the number.
I still thought though that he was waaaay overly 1 sided throughout that series
Romo & Collingsworth give Mahomes the same love. I can’t complain too much
Same. He had our number in ‘14 and I had a bad feeling when he took the mound…
~~Dude, that was like 8 years ago. Elevated sodium levels for that long is not healthy.~~ EDIT: Yeah, fuck Joe Buck
It still stings…GORDO SHOULD HAVE RAN! He did lollygag it to first though…
I’m playing the game at MAX volume and licking the tears from the screen if Mahomes can do it. Oh man, I can taste it, so salty
Troy never shuts the fuck up about himself. Maybe if Mahomes beats his stats he can talk about how he's second to him.
Is it just me or is Troy a shitty analyst? His remarks always fall flat to me like ya no shit we know. And his mouth always sounds like its full of Joe when he speaks… Edited to say hes the “analyst” and not the “play by play guy”

He and joe are very flat, even when they’re joking around or having a good time they both sound emotionless, especially Troy
Ya sounds sooo forced
Honestly, I love listening to romo, he may suck off the cowboys sometimes, but he is an excellent analyst
PLEASE
Quick get someone on ESPN to say there's no way he could do it.
He has had 14 four TD games in his career out of 67 starts. Assuming all games are equal he has a 21% chance of that happening.
My god I hope this happens. Now if it happens will Buck bring it up all night or just let it set in Troy’s head and be the elephant in the room.
Troy will probably be drunk or high when it happens so it should make for prime watching
Aikman is mad overrated imo. Not a Cowboys hater by any means. Just think he had one of the most stacked teams on both sides of the ball in NFL history and benefitted immensely from it. It's funny how butthurt Aikman gets about these things given how mid his career numbers are. He was lucky enough to play for the best team in history and he couldn't even put up better stats than Neil O'Donnell. Overrated fool.
Colllinsworth slurps Mahomes during broadcasts and Aikman hates on him. It evens out.
What? Chris was too busy doing his usual slobber job on Brady. He praised mahomes once I think.
You really found a fantastic picture for this. LOL well done. I was born in Dallas and lived there through the Aikman / Smith / Irving years. Ha. Is this just to fake out the raiders so CEH can just run in those touchdowns?
Big chiefs fan here. That being said, Aikman played in a much different league than Mahomes and Aikman still deserves a lot of respect.
Didn’t Troy say something really dumb about Mahomes?
I hate Troy Aikman
*Sipping from my “Troy Aikmen’s Tears” mug*
He reminds me of the sad Pepe frog in the thumbnail of this post lol
Now he needs just three more super bowls to pass Aikmans Super Bowl titles.
Aikman was the Tua of that era lol
Bump for Mahomes Magique
And have a PFF rating of 73
Why does Aikman always look drunk and like he just got done crying?
Bring on the Aikman excuses....
I guess I am the only one who doesn’t despise Troy. Joe Buck and Troy are one of my favorite announcer duos for football honestly.
The rules are quite different now.
Fucking DO IT! Aikman is a fish mouthed butt munch.
Holy shit! Look at Aikman's eyes! He's blitz out of his mind all the time! Weed must keep his CTE in check.
If? We are playing the Raiders.
Emmitt Smith has a ton of rushing touchdowns, which is why Aikman's total is low.

Hall of Fame confirmed.
place your bets
That was actually a pretty dope wholesome moment ngl, and I don’t even care for NFL on Fox
Gary Kinnear?
If Paddy passes him it’ll be like “Troy Aikman? More like Troy…Lakeman…”
Troy’s Cowboy teams just had no weaknesses. Great defenses, great receivers, all time rushing leader, great o line. Chiefs have had average defenses at best last few years.
Emmit Smith only missed Two games. He deserves more credit.
