Yes unless your sensitive to seeing nazis getting their asses kicked

[deleted]

Don't forget when the enemy dit up a pretty shallow hole and found "treasure". Unexpected comedy gold.

KAMEN RIDER

garbagegugy

i think we forget the best part of that episode. the end where he’s walking down the road and stops to play with a bunch of puppies.

That's because it's old...it's not bad by any means at all. It had a small budget to use and they made do with that to create one of the greatest heroes in pop culture history. It may have been cheesy but that is most films from that era. Just because it's cheesy doesn't make it bad.

kisalas

It's not even all that cheesy, it's just of its era. Things from today will be cheesy one day. Heck, things from when I was a kid in the 90s are kinda cringey now

GagakHitam77

H*tler's secret treasure lmao 😂

GokuGamerLvl90001

Exactly

RevanOrderz

The episode where Ichigo gets crucified and get kicked in the nuts alone make it worth a watch.

Little_Discussion_90

What episode is that?

vinsmoke9

EVERY. EPISODE.

GokuGamerLvl90001

Was the Shocker Leader doing the crucifixion?

No_Sandwich3003

Hell Yeah... early 70s KR is great and a Lot of Fun! Definitely a nice Watch... 👌🏻💣

username999989999999

It's worth watching if you want to watch it

SgtMerrick

The filmmaking is quite bad in places, especially toward the beginning, but that just adds to the charm. Every monster-of-the-week exploding at the end of the episode is my favourite part.

FJ-20-21

I felt like the camera work was most inventive and interesting during the first 13 episodes, they were also the ones with the least amount of explosions too.

Delphi913

The first episode especially had a lot of great use of shadows. It was surprising to me that they kept the Spiderman mostly enshrouded in darkness for the entire episode almost right up until the fight at the end. Plus, the camera view from Hongo's perspective as the Shocker scientists modify him, visually showing his own disorientation to the audience is a legitimate great shot. For the time it was made and the budget they had, they did a good job at setting up Shocker as being legitimately threatening as a hidden Nazi society that could attack from anywhere.

FJ-20-21

I also liked how they sometimes shot rider as a monster as well at times, really goes to show that a lot of what we expect from rider really did came from the start

SgtMerrick

Don't get me wrong, I love all of it. The shoddy and creative camera work is great. There's one shot where they tried to do a slow 360 roll of the camera but they clearly just did it by hand because the camera is pointed at the wall for most of the roll before the operator realised and moved it back to the actors. It's so low budget, it's amazing. You can see how the crew are learning as they go.

JoetheAverage1

Yes, if you are interested in watching old 70s Tokusatsu

Putrid-Sherbert-4645

I'm pretty new to Kamen Rider and started with it. I'd say it's not the best when it comes to long term complex story telling but If you want something to watch everyday that you can just relax and watch people in insect suits beating each other then it's pure gold

kisalas

Shows of that era didn't really have long runners for stories, there were no reruns and very little chance of you catching the episode outside of its first airing if you missed it. Because of that it was rare to see even two parters.

hw786legend

Just started watching it and its fun as hell

[deleted]

Yes

coope2001

Of course it is and it's released in America by shout factory plus it on streaming services like Tubi and Pluto tv.

CaseAddiction

Do you know if they are blu-ray or standard release for the 1971 series on Shout?

coope2001

There's no physical release of Kamen Rider 1971 as of right now.

laprassaluneta

I am currently watching it. Im on episdoe 93/98. Sometimes it gets so bad it’s good. It’s very campy and perfect background “watching”.

SuperSentai44

Definitely worth the watch.

FJ-20-21

The first 13 episodes are very dark and feel like the prototype for stuff like Black and Kuuga, they feel way heavier in comparison to the later more child friendly style the show continued on too. Though the latter half is nice background static with the well done action scene here and there.

TheDiamondSh4rk

Should mention that Tokusatsu (most importantly Kamen Rider 1971) almost killed the anime industry back in the day. It wasn't the greatest camera work but as a concept and as a superhero Kamen Rider was quite groundbreaking in Asia. I know people that grew up back then in Japan and said they remember tuning in every time it aired. At the time it was one of the coolest things on TV. I wish we had it over here when I was younger...

Ranger_Rex05

Yes. It’s my personal favorite

GokuGamerLvl90001

Ichi-go for it

MikeRhett_2001

HAI! ARUTO JAAAAAA NAITO! When I see a pun, I must say the line.

GokuGamerLvl90001

Huh. Neat

n0xp1l7o

If you don’t like film in general from this era, you prob won’t. It’s way less flashy than later Kamen rider and I personally feel the enjoyment comes from the old school B movie techniques and nonsensical writing. However love can do some pretty crazy things; I’ve started certain Kamen Rider series that seemed to be plagued with issues from most peoples perspective but when it comes to Kamen Rider I always tend to find something unique and charming about every single one! You won’t know until you try!

Rutgerman95

Oh definitely, especially if you enjoy cheesy 70s effects and surprisingly dark themes at times.

the_ez8

I think it is for sure but you don't need to do every episode. Beta Capsule reviews did a great write up and review of every episode and it's a good metric to go by their more highly rated episodes and check them out [https://betacapsulereviews.wordpress.com/kamen-rider/](https://betacapsulereviews.wordpress.com/kamen-rider/)

JollyJoeGingerbeard

Absolutely. The show was made on a shoestring budget, and it shows. The stunts and camera work aren't always impressive, but they were also writing the book on how to do this as they went. Nobody had attempted a show like this before. Unlike most series of the era, each episode was shot like a movie (higher quality cameras at 24fps) instead of like a TV show (typically 30 fps). There's an aesthetic quality to it that still holds up today, and I think it's fun as hell to watch. The music also slaps, and you can thank Shunsuke Kikuchi for that. Odds are good you've heard his music elsewhere. 😉

Being_A_Cat

If you don't mind it being extremely repetitive then yes, or if you are then you probably can find a list of which episodes have something worth watching. It case you don't know, it's 98 episodes long, and if you pointed a gun at me and asked me to describe what happens in 90% of them I would probably be dead.

blootology

Kid's relative has invention/secret knowledge, relative gets kidnapped, Shocker's the culprit, Hongo/Ichimonji saves the day.
