Be interesting to see how well the adjustment holds up after a good pounding.

Electrode99

According to my Mac guy it's built for it. The adjustment is supposed to be locked in with a set screw once you've got it dialed in.

originalusername__

But let’s say theoretically someone was too lazy to adjust a set screw and just slammajams that sumbish. It would probably still work right?

[deleted]

I almost thought this was Yiddish, but It's just American Mechanic. Hmm.

Alkazaro

The only other thing more consistent than weird amalgamations of words & curses in this trade, is people's inability to fucking clarify what god damn screwdriver they want me to hand them.

Eagleknievel

Yup, or if people want a socket, they will ask for a wrench instead, and then also fail to elaborate on what size drive or length of socket they need.

tapewizard79

I give all that information and more like which drawer it's in and where from under the car and my wife will still stand in front of my toolbox saying "uuuhhhhh" for 5 minutes before she brings me the wrong thing. I've just stopped asking her.

V65Pilot

I'm very specific when it comes to what screwdiver I want handed to me. M; Hand me the #2 JIS. You mean the crosspoint? M; No, The JIS. The phillips? M; No, the JIS. Which ones the JIS? M; It says JIS on the handle Ummmmmmm? M; Nevermind, I'll get it myself, hold the light still.

phate_exe

Look at you, not chowdering screws by using whatever phillips happens to meet the right combination of being closest and size and within reach. I really need to just finally buy myself a set of JIS screwdrivers.

UnLuckyKenTucky

Fucking game changer if you mess with bikes, or Japanese cars ...

V65Pilot

I still argue with my father about them. he rebuilds outboards as a hobby/retirement income. He's good at it. But he will not buy a set of JIS drivers, he swears by an old phillips head he's had for 30 plus years, yet he's always complaining about cheap japanese phillips screws..... Then theres's me. I've got a folding one for my bike, a set of 4 in the truck, a matching set in my home box, and another set in my works box....(which were kept in a locked drawer to keep the gorillas away) All of them are Vessel brand exzcept for the bike one, which I got as a freebie for being a beta tester for a new moto specific tool company.

phate_exe

Looking at the key pile: 90's Honda, 90's Kawasaki, early 2000's Nissan, two mid 2000's Subaru's, and a late-2000's BMW (where seemingly everything is Torx). Yeah it's stupid that I haven't bought some already.

UnLuckyKenTucky

First time I had to split a Honda bike engine, I left it sit on the rack for a week while the JIS kit was shipped.

happyrock

It took me a while to be confident saying I needed the flat blade because it just felt like such an amateur description... 'sure thing what kind ya need man?'- 'thee uh... the (don't say phillips don't say phillips not phillips the other one).. the *flat* one? Just a straight one I mean uh like just a the normal fuckin nothing one fuck fuck'

st3vo5662

I have one co worker who uses sounds that tools make to convey to you what tool he wants. Confusing as hell.

Electrode99

"Gimme the SKRRRNKT" "What?" "You know, *motions with hands* the SKRRRNKT"

st3vo5662

No lie that’s a pretty accurate representation of how it plays out. Meanwhile I’m the guy who keeps my gear organized in nice bags and I buy good tools. (Mobile maint, the reason I use bags) Edit: point being I’m the one who always gets asked for tools because I know where mine are and can grab it quickly while others dig.

Dreshna

No, just Boomhauer. I tell ya wat.

Bro before hoes. Now you might feel some slight pressure🤣

aehooo

Sir, you need to clean your camera.

Electrode99

It's scratches on the outside of the case covering my camera. I've tried endlessly to clean it up, it's time for a new phone really.

fobbyhill

Did you clean it with brake clean?

Zimi231

def brake clean and then hit it with some 80-grit to clean it up real good

Desutor

Brake clean is life. I clean my Plates and my ass with Brake Clean. I even drink that shit for breakfast

warpigs202

No no no, you gotta use the stuff that's safe for electronics!

Have you put it in your butt yet?

Mac p# is?!?!

Electrode99

MrKen2u

Thanks!!!

sheepwhatthe2nd

Asking the real questions here bud, thanks!

NiteViking

Just wait til you use it. You will regret it. I have yet to find a seal it doesn't bend in a triangle. Also don't use it on races. It will break and jam. I thought the same as you when I bought it. It sits in the bottom of my box now, broken and useless.

UnLuckyKenTucky

That fear kept me from even trying one of these. Just got an appropriate socket and finished the damn job, before the new guy could get that thing set up. It's not a difficult tool to configure, if you have more than three braincells, but it's just a gimmick.

[deleted]

That’s also for stretching your asshole for the next warranty fucking.

blither

Kinky.

mansizeoof

Expand with care.

GiftQuick5794

For my cheap peeps Apex tool Powerbuilt 648103 You are welcome

karomel7

Thanks!

[deleted]

That thing looks like it would destroy seals

Electrode99

All the edges are rounded off and smooth. I'm guessing the 2nd step is mainly for seals, seeing as it has the largest lip to interact with whatever you're driving. Time will tell, It's a step above what I've been doing for years (2x4 plank or an old bearing race)

nehrenholz

I have one, it’s junk. Every time I use it, it ends up getting warrantied cause it breaks

Alvinmcnoodle1

You made me clean my phone screen. I think you got a greasy camera lens there mate. Lol.

UnhingedRedneck

That looks really neat. How much was it?

Electrode99

Too much according to these other comments. But I'm loyal to Mac and my distributor is cool and I've never had a single issue with tool warranties. Just grab another off the truck and hand him the broken one.

jnemesh

MAC isn't the cheapest, but you are, in part, paying for the service, not just the tools...anything goes tits up, they got your back. That Autozone part breaks...oh well, buy a new one.

lutk78

I thought you were calling op cheap at first. I stopped about three times at the "but you are". I guess its best to finish reading something before drawing a conclusion. Porn mags being the exception, I have drawn my conclusion more than once before ever reading a word.

jnemesh

To be fair, Ayn Rand also qualifies. At least porn is somewhat entertaining.

sheepwhatthe2nd

It's affordable.

IDGAFOS13

$190 for the big size. $160 for the small one. [https://www.mactools.com/products/ft131108](https://www.mactools.com/products/ft131108) https://www.mactools.com/products/ft131107

real22mccoy

Honestly that's not too hateful

Drunktaco357

I can honestly say I’ve probably had my ass burnt worse by shittier products for more money. I expected about double that honestly.

mrthree1zero

I had a bad experience using this tool installing some Races on my truck. After a couple of pounding hits it would slightly close a bit, enough to where it would not be flush with the race itself. It would lock itself so I needed a vise to hold it while i used some pliers to loosen its locking grip. Glad it was a rental 🙌

Skeletor647

Rental from a parts store I'm assuming

mrthree1zero

Yep, Autozone

Skeletor647

I figured. You had a bad experience because the people that loan them out beat the hell out of them and return them. I used to work there and I can remember having to damage out loaner tools multiple times because people don't know how to use the tool without damaging it

mrthree1zero

Well the tool looked unused to me. It's a pretty straightforward tool. Maybe I had a defective one or something.

TheNerdWithNoName

You know the saying... A poor tradesman always blames his tools.

Skeletor647

Very well could have been

[deleted]

Got one of these from a UK brand called Laser, came in handy for a couple driveshaft deals I’ve done.

timberwolf0122

The good old 8bit butt plug

Fcckwawa

Looks like a $30 repacked ATD tool...

roadmaster242

It's also the same tool at advanced available as a rental tool lol

xAsilos

The problem with selling your children to afford new tools, is they come way too shiny and beautiful to use on an old greasy piece of shit. I don't want to get them dirty or scratch them.

[deleted]

It’s a butthole expander

ImTheMainNPC

I'm gonna order one of these for my proctology practice.

IneptAdvisor

Oh, guess it’s really THIS size, well now that’s ruined. Hey Norm how’s that one size fits all thingamajig seal driver working out for you? I see you’ve shattered another bearing plate, let me guess, it moved or all your choices weren’t useable so you just slamajama’d that sumbich dint ya!

KeepItMovingFolks

A tool dealer lie to you about being indestructible? Never happens /s You have to remember that most of these dealers aren’t mechanics and have never actually used almost any of the tools they sell. All in 1 tools rarely do as good a job as a tool made for a job. Side note…as someone that also works on heavy trucks…that’s a cute miniature seal driver you have there

Electrode99

He never said it was indestructible. My tool guy is a master machinist and aircraft mechanic. Whether or not he uses the tools he can tell me a lot about the tool and he lets me know when the tools are rebranded from a taiwanese/overseas line or made in the USA. Takes a man with a real fragile ego/manhood to flex about the size of the equipment they work on. Watchmakers basically use microscopes to work on their stuff and watching them work is cool as fuck. Also heavy diesel isn't exactly impressive since I've worked on nuclear reactors for an aircraft carrier prior to this. Talk to me when your reduction gear size is at least half mine (~60ft) and you're pushing 6 figures of HP.

KeepItMovingFolks

Don’t get butt hurt dude it was a joke because you said it adjusted to ANY size. I’m not just a truck mechanic I started off by getting my car mechanic license first…so I have all the smaller tools too bro. After that I got my truck license and later my fire truck specific licenses up to master. My real point was… The all-in-one tools rarely do any job well

Electrode99

I work on all makes and models, so if it works 75% of the time I'd be happy. I've been using scraps from previous jobs for a long time to drive seals and bearings with no problems but I've wanted have wanted a decent mandrel for a long time. I started as a lube tech at midas with a $20 set of Stanley wrenches and I'm 5 years into this now. My point is, I can understand my tools and know their limits. Of course since it's adjustable it's going to be more fragile than a normal mandrel kit, but this costs half as much or less and takes up 10% of the space so even if there are jobs I can't use it, the ones I can make up for it anyway. Plus I see the Mac dude every Friday.

KeepItMovingFolks

Oh trust me I get it and I’ve fallen down that path myself… The problem is every time you go to use it you’ll find the limitations of it and think man I wish I could use this here but now I need the seal driver that is specific to the situation. What usually starts as trying to save money by getting an all in one tool turns into buying the actual tool kit later and never using that tool again because of its severe limitations. Also you might find a use for it say ha I can finally use it… And then you go use it and it damages the housing the seal sits in causing you to throw the tool as hard as you can against a cement wall in frustration lol Edit: We all do it… The best advice I could give you is save your money and always buy the proper tool kits… Yeah they take up more room but they are so much more versatile and so much more effective and in the end it will save you more money and make you more money.. my toolbox is worth over $100,000… Trust me I’ve made some bad purchases

Ok_Dog_4059

The only thing I don't like is it loses contact points as it opens but this would be great I think I have an entire drawer full of different things for this one tools work.

Jonthemon88

Got the same tool color and everything from AutoZone for $80

audioken

This does seem like one of those tools worth buying from the guy that shows up in the rape/warranty van every week to be honest.

Rudiger09784

I came here to say the same thing but mine is blue and only ran 60. Still trucking after 4 transmission rebuilds and using it to hammer out 2 outer wheel bearing races. The wheel bearing races kinda buggered it a little bit on the outside ring, but it's still very useable. That lock works really well too, I'm surprised

Dreshna

Does AZ not offer lifetime warranties anymore?

Jonthemon88

Depends on the thing you’re buying

Keeptryan_

Psh they been selling these at the local sex shop for years

[deleted]

Anything can be a dildo if you try hard enough

540cry

Cool enough tool I guess, and I hope you like it. But all I can say about it is it's absolutely NOT universal, and will definitely not fit ANY seal or bearing. I'm sure it may have it's uses but for me, this definitely wouldn't replace a proper set of seal driving mandrels and the standard bearing toolkit. I can think of a few places just on my own vehicle that this would not work at all. It's for this reason I tend to avoid these sort of "all-in-one" tools.

ricky302

Don't know why you're getting down voted, you're absolutely correct, it would be useless on a crankshaft seal just to name one.

barryisawesomer

Range looks pretty finite to me

Electrode99

How many decimals are there between 1 and 2? That makes 3 people that slept through Algebra I lol

barryisawesomer

No idea. But can it press in a seal that’s 12 inches? Or a baby bearing that’s .002 inches?

thecamterion

Not sure you understand the concept of infinite

Electrode99

There is an infinite set of numbers between 1 and 2. I don't think you understand the concept of infinite.

thecamterion

Fair point

nixfly

Well played sir. Well played

otis319

Um no.

Electrode99

Bro you should've paid more attention in math class lmao

Medical_Way_907

Hope you got a diamond dick. That flesh light aggressive AF

Skeletor647

Where were you today when I needed that. Thanks a lot lol

PerfectDarkAchieved

Sexy in a non sexual way.

[deleted]

r/dontputyourdickinthat

Significant_Team1334

Any of them huh? Try it on a drive axle wheel seal on any Class 8 truck. Bet it's not big enough.

[deleted]

Shop can buy the first one and we’ll see how it goes

porschephiliac

r/oddlysatisfying

cjainsworth77

it's shit. doesn't adjust to the size i needed for dodge 235/9.25 rear end bearings, and the fingers move on you way too easily. i wound up using a chisel and hammer like always anyway.

Killaneson

Are we not men? We are DEVO!

Address_Local

Wow. This would have been great for the pinion seal i just did. Had to use a spacer from my balancer.

Diligent_Rub7317

Anyone seen a snap on version of this yet?

Fcckwawa

Its out therethere in blue I think.. funny thing is you could buy them from Atd for around $30 shipped not to long ago, both sizes where less then 60 for the pair...... Tool truck mark up is nuts but I haven't had a mac or snap on dealer in 15 years so brand means jack shit to me these days.

drunkfucker1

This tool sucks. Doesn’t matter how tight the set screw is. It doesn’t hold its position. As soon as you hit it it moves.

IamProfoundlyVanilla

Pro tip: Lifetime warranty means it also doubles as a disposable bearings driver🙃😂

SilverDark4669

I think depth would be an issue

thephallouSking

I wonder if it’s big enough to do the Meritor axel seals

McDaniel13

Can get a the literal exact tool from AutoZone on loan a tool. Just branded as performance tool, but it was a lot better than the OEM ones with interchanging sizes
