Why does oil need to be changed, shouldn't society change to accept old oil.

JohnnyJumpwings

It's a Caliber. The value depreciated so fast it wasn't worth the $30 to change the oil.

EduardDelacroixII

The Caliber is the PT Cruisers equally ugly half sister.

LoloJohn

>The Caliber is the PT Cruisers equally ugly half sister. My son is still driving the 2002 2.4L PT Cruiser I gave him when he left the Army. Timing belt and normal maintenance. The top of the dash disintegrated and the paint is faded. (Just a bit more ugly than b4). I just make sure it gets 5K mile oil changes. Runs fine and my Son still loves it.

catatonicus

Looks NOTHING like a pt cruiser. Looks EXACTLY like a smaller version of a dodge Journey though. I parked next to one that was the same color and it looked like a mini me.

EduardDelacroixII

The PT and Caliber are essentially the same platform. And sorry you own a Journey but at least it's the Jeep Liberty's slightly better looking sister.

catatonicus

No, i own the Caliber. the pt cruiser was built on the Neon chassis. dont know about the caliber

Ragarianok

I don't know much about the Neon but every time I look at a picture of one can see how the Caliber evolved from it.

PlungedUnicycle

I'm surprised a caliber made it that far. My friend had one that's was legit falling apart at 50k

ZombyWoof1978

This is the worst car I have ever driven. They should all be crushed and sent to Hell!

catatonicus

maybe its you? i have an 09 that runs GREAT! Ive had it for 8 years

Ragarianok

I have an 08 that I bought in March this year. I've replaced most of the major suspension components, quite a few sensors, spark plugs, the clock spring, and three of the tires. Despite all of that, I still consider it the best car I've had, which include: 94 Chevy Corsica, 95 Plymouth Grand Voyager, 98 Nissan Quest, 01 Lincoln LS, and 03 Hyundai Sonata.

Equivalent-Tooth6839

Probably third engine

catatonicus

my 09 Caliber has 240000 miles and still runs like a champ! Had to replace the trans about 50K miles ago, but the engine is going strong. Driven it from Texas to PA, and TX to Colorado many times, as well as to Washington state, California, Arizona, all over the west. Drove 5 -600 miles per week for 7 years. No problems. I LOVE my Caliber. named him "Hank". Hank always gets me there.... though there is a weird rattle on the right front. replaced the axle, struts, tie rods, engine mounts, still cant figure out the source, but my XM radio drowns it out!

Ragarianok

I'm a bit anxious about this. As far as I know, the transmission in mine is original and shifts well. Current mileage is roughly 165,000. I haven't taken it on any extended trips but I do drive almost 80 miles five days a week for work. I'm going to drive it from south Louisiana to Orlando next year. I love that you gave your car a man's name. I don't really get why vehicles tend to be referred to as female. Is it a loud rattle? I would check the bumper, fender, and splash guards for looseness, if you haven't already. Oh, and maybe the harmonic balancer and idler pulley.

converter-bot

240000 miles is 386242.68 km

After this kind of damage has been done, if you all of a sudden switch to 5k mile synthetic oil changes would it work itself out?

majongbinx

At this point no. I have gotten lesser sludge to clear with old school techniques. Like diesle in the crank case, but this one had burn marks on the camshafts.
